I bring my motor home here for its biannual smog check. I recommend making an appointment. They can get pretty busy. They do full auto repair. My class a motorhome is 12 1/2 feet tall, so that can be a real limiting factor for a lot of shops. They have a back area that can handle tall vehicles. It can be a bit of a tight squeeze, so you need to be a pretty good driver and feel confident that you can handle tight spaces. I carry a couple walkie-talkies with me to handle just that situation. The service rep took one and I had the other and we entered my vehicle into the slot with only a few inches to spare on each side. Backing out is also a challenge and that's where the walkie-talkies really do come in handy. The smog check went smoothly and I was happy with the overall service. read more

I had a good experience in the past so returned. This time to replace two heater hoses. Tommy told me before hand that the cost would be between 300 and $400. The dealer quoted $627 to do this work so I said I would have the car towed in the next morning. When I picked up the car at the end of the following day, the bill was $667.84 - higher than the dealer! When I asked why the big increase, Tommy said it was inflation - what happened to his quote? And to add insult to injury, he included a service fee just because the car was towed in. Finally, he said oh by the way, your check engine light is on. What? The check engine was not on when I delivered the car to the shop. Before leaving the shop, with the check engine light still on, I asked what he recommended I should do. He wanted me to bring the car back and he would charge me $150 to diagnose the problem. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this business. Price quotes are not honored, there may be hidden charges and your car may be returned to you with problems you did not have before. Honest business? Not in my experience! read more

Customer service non existent, owner was very short with me and other customers and the labor charges were out of control. I understand there is inflation but for the amount I paid I'm sure I could've found somewhere else that would do it for less but I was stuck because my vehicle was un-drivable. This little smog shop on the corner of 14th Avenue and Power Inn Road, is fast, efficient, and very friendly. I needed a smog on my vehicle, and when in the area I stopped by, but without an appointment. They immediately were able to fit me in, and said it would take approximately 20 minutes. It actually did take 20 minutes. For smogs, this shop is super fast and really nice to boot. Frank, the owner or manager, I'm not really sure, was easy to talk to and had my paperwork filled out immediately. They have a small waiting room, and it's nice and clean. They also have benches outside to hang out while you wait for your car. I know they also repair any type of car, and I have yet to check them out. They do seem to have a steady stream of clients. This was super quick, so it was perfect for me. The price was right, and I liked that they did not try to over inflate the bill- like a few other places I will not mention. These folks were really quick and professional and I hit them up like very end of the day and they were really nice about it and squeezed me in. Some of the people working were kinda over it and ready to go home and their friends were hanging around talking to them, but they were still funny and nice to me. I've got a 1999 Ford F150. Yep, it's ancient with nearly 250k miles. I do some work on it from time to time but it started throwing error codes for air leaks etc. And it had some overheating issues, etc etc. Tommy's shop had been recommended to me some time ago and he was my first call. I'm glad I did! He found numerous other issues - hose problems, broken AC compressor, PVC valve, front shocks. He fixed them all 5 days ahead of schedule. Truck is running very well now and I couldn't be happier! I plan to bring our Lexus 400h in soon to have him look into some error codes on that one. Not to great service very expensive he told me to sell my car or trash it bad service

My Honda had warped rotors that needed replacing. I had them replaced here and they squealed a little bit. I figured that the obnoxious squealing would eventually go away. They didn't and after 6 months, Tommy rode with me when we tried to replicate it. (Of course, it wouldn't do it when I needed it to.) I eventually got it to squeal once and he immediately identified the issue and replaced them. After that, there have been no squealing brakes! ---------------------------------- Some time after that, I took a second Honda there after I was doing some minor throttle body maintenance on it and I caused it to throw a check engine light (and idle improperly). I freaked out and I called Tommy and drove it to the shop. He tested the throttle body and confirmed it worked correctly. He then read and cleared the code explaining why what I did would throw the check engine light and why it will be fine since the ECU just needed to re-learn the values after the maintenance. It took about 5 minutes and he did not charge me for it. Since then, I drove the car with no problems, whatsoever. It's hard to find a good, honest mechanic and I'm really glad I found one. read more

I have been going to Ace for as long as I remember. Even though I've moved to San Jose, every time I come to Sacramento to visit my family, I take my car in for all mechanical needs- smog checks, oil changes, tune-ups, you name it! The reason why I choose Ace is simple; I value honesty and excellent work ethics. With so many scammers out there, it's hard to know if a mechanic is ripping you off. I took my car in for an oil change in San Jose and the mechanic told me I needed all new brake pads and charged me an enormous amount of money, basically nearly $700. When I brought it in to Tommy, he told me I ONLY needed my front brake pads changed and the rear brakes still had a good year's worth of padding left. What?! I was about to spend over twice as much for extra rear brakes that did NOT need changing yet and there's no way I would've known that if I didn't double check and go to Tommy. Generally speaking, you would need to get your car evaluated by three mechanics from different service providers to really know whether you're paying the right price for service your car actually needs! To me, this is absurd and I am glad I don't have to deal with all that when I come straight to Ace.
