Absolutely delicious food, and no wait staff is super friendly. this is the second time I have dined with them and both times the food was on point and not one person at the table had a complaint. read more

I always get the Chicken Parmigiana and tomato basil soup. Great tasting food and great atmosphere. read more

The food here has been very good after my four visits. Nonna's Lasagna Bianca is probably the best dish on the menu, but everything that we have tried has been excellent even the cannolis! Highly recommend. Take note that their portion sizes of many dishes (especially takeout) is large. Some dishes can be shared or saved as another meal. It is located in a shopping strip in Calera. Despite this the interior is above average and the service is friendly. Although I haven't gotten their family takeout options, it seems to be very reasonable and I would like to bring home sometime soon for an easy tasty dinner. It is definitely not fine dining, but it could more than suffice for a casual date or great lunch if you are in the area. read more

This is one of my local favorites, Bertolone's is true Italian restaurant. Their lasagna, calzones & spaghetti w/meatball is amazing! They also have a keto lasagna for those watching their carbs & it is amazing you don't miss the pasta at all. (This what I usually get) but don't have it if you are watching your cholesterol b/c you have grease separate from the meat sauce & cheese but it tastes heavenly! We get food from here as take out & the lasagna is good for multiple meals, cheesey, ooey gooey goodness, lots of cheese & the meat is flavorful & well seasoned,. Comes w/soup or salad & you get bread w/oil & herbs & spices to drizzle on it. Hubby gets spaghetti w/meat sauce (bolognese) w/angel hair pasta instead of spaghetti pasta. The pasta is cooked to perfection & hubby says the bolognese sauce is fantastic! Meal also comes w/soup or salad. Salad is small garden salad, good but nothing mind blowing. The deserts are expensive ($9 a slice) but you can get 3-4 meals out of it, huge slices of cake & the are rich, decadent & mouth watering. We usually get 2 entrees as take out & the bill comes in under $40. Great price for authentic Italian! The only reason it got 4 stars instead of 5 is because the menu is somewhat limited. Check this place out if you are in the Calera area! read more

Everything was great and the desserts are amazing! Pizza was delicious along with the bread and oil.

Listen, the food is good...here's the problem: cleanliness or the lack thereof. I owned a cleaning business for 20 years and I can look at a bathroom and tell how long it's been since it's been cleaned. The trash is a dead giveaway. This has been awhile. So here's the bathroom close to the kitchen and the floor is extra dirty, there's torn up paper towel that looks like confetti strewn over half of the floor. Sink was dirty, literally that bathroom needed scouring top to bottom . As I've told people before " if what I can see ( bathroom) is dirty then what I can't see( kitchen) is dirty". I guess I'm glad I waited until AFTER I ate to use the bathroom. My companion used the lens room and said it was really dirty also. We're traveling .. that's probably the only reason I went in there. Please , somebody who goes there often, tell the manager to get those bathrooms scrubbed ( deep cleaned and then maintained) and whatever else needs cleaned! Food was good. The dipping oil is fabulous.. meatballs were very good. Italian dressing on salad superb.. our server ( I'm sorry I didn't get his name.. blondish hair/ponytail..) was fantastic! Great job! I appreciate you. This place has a great story and great food. Please clean it up. read more

We tried a total of six menu items on our recent trip for lunch and every single menu item was above expectations. The service was excellent and the prices were fair. If you enjoy Italian like I do, go ahead and pull the trigger on this spot. My only regret is we were merely passing through when we tried this lovely restaurant. read more

I have tried to like this place and wish I did as I am an Italian carb food addict! But my second time being extremely disappointed in the quality of food. Sauce is bland with no flavor, Italian salad sitting in water, eggplant parmesan is mush with no flavor. Sauce out of a can has more flavor than this! Very disappointed and would not recommend. read more

Delicious great service- repeat customer. Lovely place to go if you're not up for the city.

Service was fine. Got our order fairly quickly. The food, however, was...terrible. Every dish needed a ridiculous amount of salt, pepper, parmesan, literally anything to have a taste at all. To top it off, there were multiple shards of wood in my fettuccine alfredo, which we paid $5 for chicken that was almost definitely from a can. Very disappointed, would not recommend, would not return. read more

We were disappointed with our experience at Bertolone's. The food was okay but not great. The service was actually very good. We were seated near a very loud and rambunctious table, so it was hard to enjoy our food. read more

This was our opportunity to give a second try to this restaurant. Our first visit was lackluster at best with mediocre food and sub-par service. This time we went with 3 other couples before a concert. The staff was OUTSTANDING! The food was, sad to say, bland, grossly over-cooked and later on, I got very sick (i had the Cesar salad with grilled chicken). I wanted so much to love this place, but I just can't give a better review. read more

This place is nothing but reheated microwave garbage. Food was terrible. Very expensive for frozen garbage. Awful experience. Should have known better than going to a strip mall Calera Al restaurant. Never again read more

I love their food! Meatball pizza is a treat for my kids. They love to see it coming! We take out quite a bit. Sometimes their a/c or roof will leak. (I'm not sure from where the water comes.) So, to prevent from getting dripped on again, when it is crowded, we just get to-go! read more

I went to this place for the first time and the moment I walked into the restaurant the smell was amazing! Got seated right away and the waitress was extremely friendly, they bring bread that they make fresh themselves, the food was great and their slice of cakes are delicious as well. It's a cozy and romantic spot definitely recommend. read more

Great for the family. The calzones are my favorite. My kids love it here. Great date night for a night out.

When on our way back home to Indiana saw this hide away gem off the interstate. Thought we would give it a try. This place is soooo good. Comfortable and inviting, clean and wonderful. You walk in and see slices of cake in the cooler, cake for days people, the calzone meatball is what I had which was delicious but the bread that you dip in oil/seasoning was fire!!!! But the cake is what brought it all home. Sooo dang good I wish I could make trips there on a regular. Definitely a must visit, I promise you will not be disappointed. read more

This was my first time eating here and it was wonderful! I've eaten at their sister restaurant, Joes italian, several times and I think Bertolone's is even better! I got the pepperoni calzone and it was HUGE. I was able to eat half for lunch and the other half the next day. The bread that you dip in the oil and spices is always yummy. I was too full to eat any dessert but was drooling at it on my way out of the door! I'm 6 months pregnant and couldn't stop thinking about it so my husband went back the next day and got me some red velvet cheesecake. It was great! My only complaint is that our waiter was slow. It wasn't busy at all when we went so I'm not sure what he was doing. He'd say he was bringing us refill's of water when he passed by and never did so we had to flag someone else down. Other than that, great experience and we will be coming back! read more

Bertolone’s - Pepperoni calzone - Italian Near Me - Calera, Alabama

We went through Grubhub for our Italian feast recently. We placed order around 6pm and app let us know that it would take an hour which was perfect. Our spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, salad and slice of chocolate cake arrived thoughtfully packaged, keeping salads cool and entrees hot. Was so hungry forgot to take pics. Everything was delicious! So that Bertolone's delivers :) read more

Always outstanding! Nonna's lasagna Bianca is our family favorite. The family meals make a dinner party easy. Awesome family restaurant!

Delicious every time!! Capellini, lasagna, and cannoli are our favs. The desserts are fabulous too. The strawberry cake and the red velvet cheesecake are amazing!! read more

Food was bad. Service was good. No flavor. Seasonings lacking. We will not eat there again.

Food looks really good but never got to try it. Got seated right away. Sat at our table for 20 minutes with no one ever coming to take our drink order or even speak to us. Watch 2 other tables get sat and have orders taken. Finally just walked out and no even said anything as we were leaving. read more

Miss the location that was in Clanton. So when I was in Calear watching my son play in a baseball tournament, we stopped in for lunch. My favorite mushroom ravioli and white sauce was still available and delicious as ever. Tiramisu was fine like I remembered. read more

First let me just say we had a party of 11 people and they had no problem seating us. Our family was on a road trip back home from Florida. I called on our way and they just asked when we planned on arriving. The restaurant was clean. The food was delicious (dinner bread and herbed dipping oil was brought out right away). The waitresses were friendly and efficient. And the cake - oh my word! Leave room for cake or take some home. So many cakes! read more

This is the place to go to when you want great tasting Italian food! Me and some coworkers decided to go for lunch this week and we really enjoyed our meals! Everything our waiter recommended to us was right on point. We would like to go back soon and try more on the menu and we decided to recommend this restaurant to the rest of our coworkers. We will be back soon. Thanks! read more

Everything was fine, not great. Service was good although understaffed and busy. Maybe this place could use some fun new additions to the menu or at least lower prices for the level of food. read more

The service was great and the decor was awesome....but the food was horrible...I would have rather eaten at Olive Garden and I hate Olive Garden...the first thing we got was bread which was stale...we ordered bruschetta for an appetizer and the bread for it was stale also my wife got some kind of penne with meatballs and I got angel hair noodles with sausage....both of our plates tasted like the noodles were old...we got desert and you could tell it was Frozen....we left with nothing but a bad after taste in our mouth...sucks because it would be awesome if there was a local homemade Italian place that was good and if anyone thinks this place is good has never had real Italian food before...the ONLY reason why this place gets two stars is because of the wait staff but seriously what the point of having a great staff if they end up only serving food that isn't satisfying... read more

The food is great and plenty of it. The staff is very friendly and give excellent service. The decor it's nice as well.

when they first opened, the food was very good. Last few times I've ordered take out, not so much. Simple dishes like lasagne and spaghetti and meatballs, runny with very little flavor. The quantity was fine, the service at the front was ehh (they appeared to be a bit in the weeds, understandable) but the food was very below par. Don't believe I'll be going back again read more

Longtime fans of Joes who complained the food has gone downhill over the years take heed because the same can be said for Bertolone's. My wife and I decided to give this place a chance after we've quit going to Joes. I ordered the lasagna bianca with Italian wedding soup and my wife ordered the normal lasagna with the tomato soup. Started out well as both were good. Then the main courses arrived - mine barely had anything in it besides noodles and sauce. Hers was a little better but not much and was extremely salty. The service was ok but she wasn't even sure what was supposed to be in the Bianca when I asked. (I was wondering if it would be different than Joes) Overall while it has the same ambiance and menu of Joes much of the same issues followed it to this location. Pains me to say but what was one of our favorites is no longer and we won't be back. read more

Party of 7 on Mother's Day, one in a wheelchair. No wait. Everything very tasty. Wife and MIL split lasagna. I had cannelloni. Awesome!

Excellent food and excellent service and we would go back. Hometown and fresh ingredients for our nice family visit to Calera for baseball.

Great place! Love the staff! The food is great. Sausage home made - LASAGNA- great. They use a white sauce not Alfredo with pasta. Kind of weird. Wasn't impressed with the Tiramisu it was not good. Lady fingers where stale and not soaked in expresso. Over all a great addition to CalerA! read more

Bertolone’s - Italian Near Me - Calera, Alabama

Service and vibe was good, and the prices were cheaper than I expected for the most part. The food is overhyped in my opinion. I had the eggplant parmesan and it came with penne and a red sauce. The sauce was good, but the dish needed much more of it. Definitely not bad, but I was expecting more due to all the praise I heard from others. read more

We went to Bertolone's on a Friday night and we're served quickly. The server was very generous with the delicious seasoned olive oil she poured out for dipping bread. (And the bread was very light, not dense and heavy.) But my favorite part was the pomodoro sauce on my meatballs--thick and flavorful with just a hint of heat. Just wish I'd had room for dessert! read more

We love coming to Bertolone's! We have done dine-in and take out many times and also frequent their other establishments. My husband loves the White Lasagna and I could swim through a plate of the Chicken Parmigiana. They also bring bread and dipping oil to your table to snack on which is divine and have a good wine & cocktail list. For a quick drive off the interstate this is definitely a great find and a great addition to Calera. P.s. don't forget to get a piece of strawberry cake to go! (It'll serve 2-4 people later and you'll be too full after dinner!) read more
