Food was not good. They placed too much garlic in the bruschetta and the vodka sause was not good either.

Our experience with this restaurant last week was probably the worst dining experience we have ever had. Our server Dakota was not very well informed about the menu, she didn't even bring water to our table without prompting (and certainly no refills of water or bread) After taking our order for wine and food we waited over 30 minutes only to be told there was a problem with our order, (it wasn't received in the kitchen or the bar for the wine evidently) The table next to us had the same server who delivered their drinks and food in a timely manner...,never stopping in to say a word about the absence of our food and drinks. When we asked about our wine and food we were treated very rudely. She even asked "are you genuine?" When we asked to speak to the manager .., who never arrived at our table. We should have just left, but we tried to make the best of it. Our order of meatballs and spaghetti finally arrived but the meat wasn't cooked. When we tried to let her know our dinner wasn't edible, she brought our ticket. She never asked the manager to come to our table or do anything to make the matter better. We paid and left knowing we will never return. We have called several times to talk the matter over with the owner and have not gotten a response yet. I don't know if she is getting the messages or just doesn't care. I do not know how this establishment is even in business. read more

Appetizer 1: cheese twist and the tomato sauce must've been made in house it was so fresh! S.O.'s Entrees: Came with an italian salad and the dressing was in house. Lasagna 10/10 portion was just right, ratios were right, and seasoning was there! 2nd entree: margarita pizza and I'd say I was still happy with the portion. Slap a bit of the parmesan and you can't go wrong if you're looking for simple and flavorful. Bertolonie's is among the best Italian restaurants we've ever had the pleasure of dining at bar none. We have been there four times over the past few months. The food is excellent, and the service is friendly and timely, no matter the time of day. The cakes are to die (not overly sweet) portions are more than ample. We first heard about Bertolonie's about four or five months ago. We tried it for the first time two months ago and have been back four times. For us, it is about an hour and twenty minutes drive (well worth the drive). So far, everything we've had has been divine. My husband and I were so excited to com here to eat! We were so disappointed!!! We ordered eggplant parmigiana and it was cold, the eggplant was soggy and the sauce was runny! I am very spoiled being married to an Italian wife. So I am super picky when it comes to sauce. I had the chicken parm. The chicken was over cooked and there is nothing special about the sauce here. I would suggest more spice and garlic into the sauce and maybe you will have something a little better. I would like to say the service was very friendly and professional. The only reason for 3 stars is the food was good! The service sucked! They seemed to be fully staffed and not a full house. Advice don't expect your bartender to wait on a table on the other side of the room! We waited a good 10 mins before she even acknowledged we were there. We asked for water 3 times and never got it. She was quick getting us cocktails once she finally took our order. The few times she checked on us was a quick drive by, she barely stopped to hear our answer. We watched the other tables around that arrived after us, get served, they were paying their tabs when we were getting our meal. I haven't had anything but pizza from Bertolone's, but that's really the only reason I visit. The pizza is really great and cooked perfectly. Not the standard size that you would normally get at a chain restaurant, so order 2. One thing I didn't like was that I was charged for a small dipping cup of marinara sauce after spending $100 on food. That was a real turn off. read more

Well, my hubby & I had a taste for some Italian cuisine for last night's dinner & he insisted on spaghetti from a nearby Italian food chain but I wasn't feeling that idea. I took it upon myself to phone in our order to this local spot & we're both absolutely glad that I did. AMAZING! I enjoyed cannelloni while he had chicken fettuccine. This used to be a fantastic place to eat.. But we ate there last night and was very disappointed in the quality of the food.. They have made some changes for the worse.. The prices are higher , the food is bland. We ordered the marsala which turned out to be nothing more than chicken alfredo with mucshrooms.. VERY tastless, like it was poured out of a cheap jar!! We used to go just for the desserts alone, they were homemade and spectacular but last night we were given slices a fourth the size at 9.95 (about 3 bucks higher in price). The strawberry cake did not habe any flavor, my husband didnt even finish it , that bland, like a boxed cake. My tiramisu was as bad as olive garden.. no flavor , the creamyness it used to have ..gone.. The white chocolate chips..gone.. Best pizza around! I used to work in a nice Italian restaurant so I know quality Italian! Bertolone's knows their customer base for sure, it's just nice enough to have the Italian restaurant atmosphere, without being ungodly priced or exclusive or anything like that. While I've had a couple of their pasta plates and very much enjoyed it, I can't help but order pizza most of the time, it's just that good. Where I worked before was a similar story, lots of actual pizza restaurants fall short to a truly authentically tossed Brooklyn style pizza, and Bertolone's NAILS it!! Seems like they have dropped the baked option for pasta. ( And yes, it does add to the quality of the dish) With past orders it became a gamble as to whether the order was correct. Now it's only on lunch option and even that is "out of stock" which seems curious since the ingredients don't seem to be missing from other dishes. It's too bad since we have supported them even when they were in Clanton and especially during the Covid craze since the food is fantastic and they are local. Now without the go-to dish and the opening of a small pizza/calzone place in town we have an option that is cheaper, closer, and is a decent alternative at least for those items. read more

I am absolutely thrilled with Bertolones. As with any new establishment there have been staffing issues. But I've yet to be disappointed in the food. Randomly stopped here after seeing Cracker Barrel signs on the interstate heading home from Destin and thrilled with this place! The service is exceptional- got the buffet and had plenty of options. Since it's local, and I knew the spot this restaurant moved into, I was wondering how "nice" it would be. Knowing the family's reputation for their food, I was expecting it to still be quite delicious. I placed a to-go order, and he was a little closer to closing time. When I got there to pick it up, they were in the process of getting things cleaned up, but they were still very nice. The inside of the restaurant was very nice, very clean, and the decor was the usual Italian style, but a little more clean-lined (lack of better wording.) I was pleasantly surprised. Since it was late, there weren't any customers, so I can't vouch for the noise level. The food was as good as I remembered from one of their previous restaurants. My son and I shared the Spicy Hawaiian pizza. A nice spice that wasn't overpowering (I like things super-spicy.) My husband had the spaghetti and meatballs, which he said had a very good flavor; the pasta being good "just right." We were given plenty of bread and "Italian butter" to go ... love the flavor of the olive oil and pesto mix. I also brought some chocolate chip cookies that were at the register to tempt me. Excellent place! Stoped for dinner on our way through, was completely pleased with our meals. Food was fresh and delivered hot! Wine was excellent as well! Service was excellent, and knowledgeable as well. Fast but not pushy, gave us time to soak in the surroundings as well. The decode is acceptable, good colors and just enough decorations to not overwhelm you. The bar looks fabulous, lots of thought and design went into this area but not distracting from the feel of the restaurant. This is a restive rant, not a bar. We had no ill vibes from anyone in the establishment. The owner even came out and introduced herself to us, even being the cook as well. Their story is on the back cover of the menus, as both her parents were Italian and cooks as well, we had high hopes that the food would be good. We were wrong, it was great! Defiantly going to be back again, don't know when but if we are ever 8n town, this is a sure place to stop! read more

Been hearing about this place for some time, just moved in to the old Red Zone location by the Walmart. I was curious to see if they kept a lot of old classics and recipes for the original Joe's. Not disappointed. Food was amazing. My husband had the chicken soup that he licked the bowl darn clean. We both had the cantaloni, he had beef I had crab, both came out piping hot and delicious. Sarah the manager behind the bar was hospitable and gracious. I guess emily waited on us?? The food was always great. We ordered a to-go meal for the family for Mother's Day. It wasn't their best effort, but we were willing to overlook it since there is a pandemic right now and they may not have full staff available. When I called to place the order, I said I wanted to pick it up ON Mother's Day. Person who answered the phone said that Bertelone's wouldn't be open on Mother's Day. Since I couldn't make the trip on Saturday, we decided to go on Friday. Gave a very generous tip since seating in house wasn't happening and I KNOW waitresses aren't making so much these days. Got home and found a piece of regular cake (feeds 2) instead of the Mother's Day special cake they said would feed 4. The first time we visited here was great but every subsequent visit has gone downhill. We've tried several pasta dishes, all are pretty good quality but small for what you're paying- I haven't had a pasta dish there in a few months as I started keto recently so perhaps the portion sizes (maybe even the quality) has changed. The bread they serve has always been pretty dry but drenching it in the oil mixture makes it better. The aforementioned keto diet is what prompted me to leave this review. This is the only restaurant in Calera that I know of that boasts a keto menu and I was thrilled to try it. We have had several keto pizzas made with their fathead dough crust as well as both lasagnas. Not very tasty, but no carb substitution really is. Put enough cheese and sauce on it though and it's decent- definitely enough to kill a pizza craving. Most recently, however, my husband ordered a keto pizza for pickup and 1 hour later he was still at the restaurant waiting on it to be cooked. This was a Monday night, by the way. When he got the pizza home, it was not on keto crust. He went back for an actual keto pizza and apparently it really only takes 20 minutes to make one so I'm not sure what they were doing for that hour. They did let us keep the original pizza though. read more
