This was my first visit to Bertolone's and it's been on my list to try for a while. I went during lunch so it wasn't very busy. My waitress was friendly and attentive. I ended up trying the spaghetti and meatballs because I haven't had it in a while. My waitress did mention its made with the marinara sauce and she prefers the meat sauce. I went with the traditional way it's served- with marinara sauce. After taking a few bites, I wasn't impressed. My waitress asked how I liked it and I said the meat sauce may better. She brought a small saucer of the meat sauce. It made the best difference to me. I also had the Caesar salad which the suave is made in house. I also tried the tiramisu cake which is also made I house. I now like tiramisu cake. Good first visit and I will come back to try another dish.

Food was overall good. The calzone was huge and so delicious. The Cajun Shrimp and Crawfish Penne was good. I would have liked for it to have a little more kick. Server was great she was attentive and checked on us regularly. We got seating quickly and food came out quickly and hot and fresh The salad I had was good. The Italian dressing wasn't my favorite but good. Atmosphere was ok. Place was clean and orderly from the dining area to the bathrooms. Nice drink and bar selection. Also nice desert menu. If you looking for some Italian themed layout this ain't Olive Garden. Yet if you looking for good food and great service from a local family. This is the place. You will not be disappointed.

Veggie Pizza

My wife and I ate here after there was too long of a wait at the nearby Cracker Barrel. We are so glad we did. We shared a veggie pizza and it is one of the best pizzas I have ever had. Even in early March, the tomatoes were fresh and juicy. The pizza was covered with mushrooms, artichoke hearts, and black olives. The crust was a nice level of thickness (not too thick)-- just right. Service was excellent, too.

We live down the street from the family's first restaurant, so we thought we'd try this when we were in the area. Parking can be a little tough with a couple busy restaurants at the end of the shopping center. We ordered our old standbys of Capellini Pomodori Freschi (no added protein) and lasagna. Portions are generous, and the fresh bread is always a great complement. Service was quick, and even for a Friday night we were in and out pretty quickly. I think my only critique is the dessert case that was located nearby. The ambiance of the place is nice; the lighting is warm and inviting...and then we had a display case with overly bright white LED lights. It was distracting. I know they have great desserts, and I know they need to highlight them, but from the open table where we were seated, it was a detraction. It probably would not have been as noticeable or bothersome if we were seated elsewhere.

I loveeee the spaghetti & meatballs here. Outside of that, I have not tried much. Also getting cake from here is a must! Very good for a good quick fix for your Italian cravings.

I ordered online and picked up. I ordered the cannelloni dinner entree. What I received looked nothing like the picture off of which I was ordering from. The "vegetables" described in the description is large pieces of spinach and a little much. No chopped basil garnish. It was also COVERED to the top of the takeout dish in the red sauce. I asked for no onions on my salad and it came with onions.

Food was not good. They placed too much garlic in the bruschetta and the vodka sause was not good either.

I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon since I had been having a hankering for a slice of pizza. I rarely ever crave pizza! My single slice was a nice portion and I enjoyed the supreme pizza overall. I would have preferred just a tad bit more sauce. The service was nice and friendly. The inside dining space has low lights and really felt like what I envision an Italian family's home to feel like. Currently, they aren't selling alcohol. They offer daily specials Mon- Fri. I plan to return soon to try some other menu items.

At first glance, we were not impressed. It dated decor and there were no customers in sight. But the manager created us and took our order. He was very nice and informative of the menu. They do offer pizza by the slice at any time of the day. A plus if you just need a quick snack. They appear to serve Napoleon style pizza, so it was looking up. We ordered a large olive oil based, cheese with pepperoni and pineapple. I know it sounds weird but it's our favorite. Each pizza is custom made to order so it took a few minutes to be served. But the advantage was it was piping hot straight to the table. Olive oil was slightly sweet and tangy. Cheese was fresh and tasty. Toppings were perfect. Crust was crispy brown on undercarriage with nice crunch. Edges were crispy on outside and fluffy on inside. Manager suggested their balsamic dressing to dip the crust in, so we gave it a try. Highly recommended! It was a great choice! And of course, the Diet Coke was on point! Great customer service! Good pizza! We will definitely be back!

After seeing a bad health score at a nearby restaurant and another being closed for a private event…read moreon date night, we decided on Depalma's. Before we even got within 2 blocks we could smell a garlicky bread scent which thrilled us as we were carrying a pretty intense appetite at this point . When we got in, the place had an authentic Italian feel to it, but Americanized for sure. It had a charm that ensured me the food was gonna be valid -- and that it was. We sat down after about a 15 minute wait in a packed house. Our server was fantastic from start to finish and was very knowledgeable about whatever we inquired about. 10/10. We first had wine -- forgot what we had, sorry maybe it really did its job. I had a red wine and fiancé had a white. Both wines were very good. Fiancé ordered the Baked Feta antipasti. She enjoyed it. It came with garlic bread that was as crisp as it was tender. 8/10. Then we got our Caesar salad. A different twist indeed as the dressing was more vinaigrette than the dressing we're accustomed to. Still very good and it grew on us each bite 9/10. Our dinner came out about 15-20 minutes later (we were distracted by the company that the wines brought us) but it was very well worth it. I had a feeling that it was gonna be good just by how long it took. Fiancé had the pizza with pep, spinach and feta topping with cheese. We don't consume pork much, especially her, so if she enjoyed it, it had to have been really good. It was as fresh and crisp as ever. I had the build your own pasta with angel hair, Alfredo, Asiago, herb baked chicken, and salmon. Top 5 best tasting pasta dishes I've ever had -- and I've been to Italy. We attempted to get the white chocolate bread pudding but it unfortunately had sold out . Regardless, we'll have another opportunity at it because we will be back at this fantastic establishment. 5/5!

Today we were invited to a late lunch at DePalma's with some friends after the Alabama-Kentucky…read morebasketball game. For us Bama fans, the afternoon turned out far better than what the football team put on the field a few days earlier. The basketball team showed up ready to play and made up for that New Year's Day disappointment. But let's be honest--we were really here for Italian food, and DePalma's was happy to oblige. It had been over a year since we last stepped inside this establishment, not because of any past experiences, but simply because this place stays busy. On a typical weekend, folks are packed in here like cordwood, and the sidewalk outside looks like someone kicked over an ant farm. That said, there's a reason for the crowd--DePalma's consistently delivers good Italian eats. The old building still carries plenty of character, with wine bottles lining the walls and the nostalgic bar where an old pharmacy once served Coke and a smile. These days, instead of sodas and prescriptions, they're rolling dough and making pasta behind that same bar, and I'd say that's a pretty solid upgrade. We started with the stuffed mushrooms, which were outstanding. When we finished, the plate was so clean you could've put it back in the cabinet--only a few grains of salt remained as evidence they were ever there. For my meal, I ordered the pine nut-crusted salmon along with a Caesar salad. It was my first time having their salmon, and it definitely won't be my last. The dish was excellent--well-prepared, flavorful, and proof that stepping outside your usual order at DePalma's can pay off. I've eaten here many times over the years and can honestly say I've never had a bad experience. Great food, great service, and great company--even the Kentucky fans who made the trip down to watch their beloved Cats get smacked around on the hardwood. All in all, DePalma's remains a Tuscaloosa staple for a reason. Crowded? Usually. Worth it? Absolutely.
