Good service and great Italian food and atmosphere. Good location and reasonable prices. Delicious cakes and pizza.

My daughter recommended this restaurant and raved about the red velvet cake. I stopped by today and ordered the red velvet and lemon cake. Both were absolutely delicious and the portion size was good I'll definitely be back read more

Such a great place and a good find in any town but especially Calera! The table gets started off with a basket of warm bread and oil like a lot of other Italian places. Wife and me got lunch specials for $10 that included a pasta dish + side salad or soup. I appreciate places that include salad with the pasta. I got the Italian salad dressing and it was unique. A bit thicker than I'm used to so I didn't love it but it wasn't bad. Side salad is a good size. Then I had the spaghetti & meatballs. Good pasta and I really liked the sauce. It was a little on the sweeter side which I prefer. Great value for lunch and our server was so sweet and helpful. She told us that the owners used to own Joe's Italian in Pelham which we're familiar with. I'll recommend this place to anyone going to Calera. read more

We came here the other night for a birthday celebration. It was pretty dead inside of the restaurant. We were seated fairly quickly and started looking over the menu choices. They have a pretty large menu, including a keto friendly section - something I wish more restaurants would start doing as well. This was especially surprising for an Italian restaurant. They served some bread and oil before the meal was served. It was decent. The meals all come with choice of soup or salad. I chose the soup of the day and it was delicious - probably the best part of the meal here (other than the dessert). I had the tortellini, which was tasty, but the pesto was very thin and runny. My wife had the white lasagna, which was very good. My grandmother tried the spaghetti and meatballs and was happy with her choice. We did get one slice of triple chocolate cake for dessert, and it was very tasty. It was so big that the three of us could not finish it. read more

Food and service was fantastic. If you are ever around calera this is a must stop. We will be back!

My parents moved to the Jemison area last year, and they have been on the hunt for good food around town. Bertalone's was one that we had been eying for awhile. I came into town and so it was the perfect opportunity for takeout. We placed a rather large order that included a family takeout for the chicken panna for 6. We ended up making it all the way back to Jemison before realizing that we were given chicken parmigiana instead. We called the store and they agreed to make the correct food without even making any sort of apology. We reluctantly drove all the way back to retrieve the correct dish. The hostess didn't even bother apologizing in person either. Unfortunately when we made it home, we realized the food was also NOT up to our standards. Completely bland, watery, and unseasoned. My parents both stated that it tasted canned almost--as if the chicken and sauce came directly from a can. I honestly have zero clue HOW they have so many good ratings. I have been to tons of Italian restaurants and live in Charlotte, NC and this is probably the worst Italian food I've ever had. I had to really doctor up the white sauce to make it bearable. I will say is that I do think the red sauce has potential if it just had maybe a bit more garlic. But again, it was far too bland and far too little sauce for the amount of pasta that was given to us. My dad did say that his triple chocolate cake was pretty good, but as for my cannoli, the shell was soft as if the filling had been sitting for awhile. I can guarantee that we will not be returning for a second visit. read more

Three visits and three times the food order was wrong. Enough said. Staff was pleasant. Owner was attentive.

Great little family owned restaurant. We had salads with Italian dressing, chicken parmigiana, and tiramisu. All were fantastic. Highly recommend! read more

Bertolone's has some of the absolute best cakes. I ordered a lemon cake for my husband's birthday (first time having their lemon) and it was fantastic. Moist, light, and the frosting is whipped. Not overly sweet like so many cakes. I've also ordered one of their Italian cream cakes for my mother's birthday in 3 weeks. I'm sure I'll be back to share more about that one once we're able to pick it up and dig into it. Bertolone's will definitely be my go-to for cakes for birthdays. read more

We found this place passing through on our way back to Nashville TN heading home from our vacation in Destin Florida...IT WAS AMAZING. The BEAT cheese twist bread I've ever had in my life. Better than our local Olive Garden. The fettuccine was cooked perfectly, the bread and vinaigrette was the perfect appetizer. We stopped and were starving so we enjoyed everything here. The inside is really nice with a bar, and they also have a variety of cakes which looked SO GOOD. Unfortunately we were so stuffed from the dinner we couldn't try a slice of cake. I'm just sad TN doesn't have this restaurant I would love to go back! read more

WOW! Decided to come here from out of town (an hour and a half) to eat for a girls outing (child and husband-free). We all ordered something different off the menu and tried each others. Each item was amazing. The lobster ravioli was mouthwatering, the mushroom ravioli was delicious, the shrimp scampi pasta was absolutely fantastic. Homemade pasta, homemade sauces, large portions. The service was fantastic- our waitress was wonderful. The restaurant was cozy and comfortable but also upscale and date nite worthy. The complimentary bread served with olive oil and spices was SO good. The salads were crisp, fresh, and dressings homemade. Dessert was the best Italian cream cake and tiramisu I've EVER tasted. Everything was just absolutely amazing and can't wait to come back! Will be recommending to everyone! read more

I love their pizza! It's so much better than the chain pizza places. You can tell the crust is freshly made. The sauce is not spicy but a full-bodied tomato taste. The toppings are always fresh & no part of the pizzas I've had have ever been burned or overcooked. I've also had the spaghetti & meatballs which is really good. You get a large portion & the meatballs are huge. Don't forget to order cake. The are very large slices & all the ones I've had are delicious. The strawberry cake is my absolute favorite! read more

This is one of the best places in Calera to eat. Everything from their pasta to their pizza is delicious and worth coming back for. I've used takeout, delivery, and dine-in and no matter what their quality is consistent. The service and ambiance makes you feel like you're eating with family. If you are really looking to up their pizza's flavor profile order a side of their homemade ranch to dip the pizza in. read more

My husband and I love this restaurant. They also have one in Clanton, AL. Best Italian entrees and their desserts are homemade and to die for. Huge portions of entrees and desserts. Everything was great. There was so much food. Can't wait to go again. It had been years since we have been.

The family name is well known in the local food/dessert scene and Bertelone's maintains the quality standard. We visited on a Friday for a late lunch/early dinner. Upon arrival, we saw they offer a lunch buffet on weekdays, but we were too late to take advantage of that deal....maybe next time. We were quickly seated and our waitress immediately came to take our drink order. They had specials on beer and sangria, as well as Italian margaritas (I didn't try any, but the prices were on point). Regarding food, I ordered the lasagna and opted for the tomato basil soup rather than a salad. Shortly after we placed our order, our server brought a sizeable portion of the complimentary focaccia bread for the table. The texture was a perfect compliment for the olive oil and spices. Then came the tomato basil soup, which was creamy deliciousness. Not long after, our entrees arrived. The lasagna was a sizeable portion, so much so that my husband and I essentially shared it and took nearly all of his pizza to go. The sauce in the lasagna was everything! They actually have it jarred to sell in the restaurant if you are willing to pay a pretty hefty price. While we did not engage in any sweets on this visit, their desserts are heavenly, especially the strawberry cake. I'd never had strawberry cake before moving to Bham and the strawberry cake here makes me wonder how I ever lived without. And the pieces are ginormous, seriously one slice feeds four - generously. I've had other flavors, too, like chocolate and Italian cream, but there's something about the strawberry that makes everything right in the world. read more

Always friendly. Strawberry cake is 5-stars. The keto-friendly lasagna is really good, especially for a diabetic.

I was visiting my daughter and her family, and her husband recommended this place for authentic Italian food, so I said Yes. First, they presented us with bread and olive oil. The bread was good but not great. The salad was very good. My entree was homemade mushroom ravioli, and it was great! They make their own pasta, which was top notch! The meat sauce was also excellent. read more

Very good Italian food in Calera! I didn't even know this place was here until I found it on yelp! Cannelloni was good and my wife had the eggplant parm. She said it was great! This place is worth driving out of your way for, and isn't far from I65 or 85. I am so thankful we went. It's one of those dining experiences I'll never forget. Customer service was top notch. We had at minimum four different employees ask us how we liked our food and/or experience. They were extremely attentive. The food was all so fresh and mouthwatering delicious. The sauce in the lasagna brought tears to my husbands eyes. He ate a bite because one of the kids insisted he try it since it was so delicious. Once he took a bite he had instant memories of his grandmother who has been gone for 30 years. It's the only time in his life since she passed that he has found any sauce like hers. His mom can't even make it taste like hers. Needless to say, we took a medium size jar home. The mushroom ravioli has a nice cream sauce. The pizza was cooked to perfection. The Italian dressing is divine. I could go on and on about this place. We will definitely make it a point to go back here when passing through Alabama. There's a reason this place has been in business for more than 40 years. And I hope they remain open for many generations to come. I can't say enough good things about this experience. Y'all need to check this place out. It should definitely be listed as a top place to eat in the United States. read more

Nice ambience, superb food and service. Free bread service with pesto oil. I ordered a free appetizer thanks to a checkin on Yelp: 3 delicious meatballs. This is only one of two full service restaurants near the hotel, I was staying at the local Hampton Inn. The service was great, food came out fast, and the bread with the seasoned olive oil was very tasty. The salad was not very appealing but tasted better than it looked but still nothing to get excited about. The Lasagna was just okay, it lacked the traditional ricotta cheese layer, the only obvious cheese was the mozzarella topping. I may try again but a different dish, l thought Lasagna was a pretty safe bet. read more

Hello! We had our lunch at Bertolone's today and really enjoyed it. I tried cannelloni for the first time and was very pleased with it and the included side salad. Prices were reasonable and portions were generous - no complaints there at all! The salad was good, but I would suggest a wider variety of salad dressings. Maybe a light Italian along with the creamy Italian you already offer. Also, I would suggest a vinaigrette that's already thoroughly mixed instead of just providing a bottle of vinegar and a bottle of oil. We'll be back! Thanks! read more
