Front staff is rude and unprofessional especially Carmen, Steven the manager is aware and defends her actions sadly not the place to give business any further. The place was clean and things were moving at a steady pace. I came in during mid morning and didn't have to wait too long. The staff at the desk looked a bit tired but they were still courteous. I got called in pretty quickly. The nurse who brought me back seemed to know what she was doing and didn't waste any time. She double checked my basic info and asked about current medications. After that the doctor came in and introduced himself. He wasn't overly chatty but he listened well and responded thoughtfully. We went through my concerns and he talked about a few factors that might be contributing. I appreciated that he didn't talk down to me or rush through the explanation. It was a little more formal than I expected but not uncomfortable. I left with a clearer understanding of what steps to take next and a sense that my concerns were taken seriously. read more

I have been seeing Dr Mac for more than 10 years now and I am immensely satisfied with his service. I have only words of praises for Dr. Mac. . However when I wanted an appointment this time the office could not accomodate me inspite of an emergency ( scratched glasses). I called in November and the earliest apointment I got was late January. The front office oeople do not pick phone calls any more. They just send a text that no appointment is available. So I've been coming here for years and same deal the front desk is a nightmare! They keep scheduling my appointments in the wrong dates every year it's October how can you get that wrong every year for 3 years straight. Then when I requested to fix it she says to call sooner because it's a holding slot only and if there are no appointment available they put it in November. I'm like hello every year when I call there are appointment available in October so why don't you fix my appt she says it's automated . I'm like getting annoyed at her and ask for a manager so maybe he can fix it. When I asked to speak to the manager she says he's not here and she can't release that information. I'm like ok so I call back and she says he's there Tuesday. SMDH. What a joke. By the way I still have it 3 stars because dr Mac is awesome. read more

Their website advertised United Healthcare (UHC) is one of their accepted insurance plans. But the rep I talked to told me that UHC would not process their claims and cold heartedly told/warned me that I must pay them directly even though I had advised them more than once (3 or 4 times?) -- at the beginning and during our conversation -- that I have no problems paying them out of my pocket as I used to and submit my claim for reimbursement myself afterwards. read more

I've moved around quite a bit and let me tell you this is the best Optometrist I have ever been to. They answer all my questions, even if I think they could be silly, and they also care about helping me understand my own eye health - even showing me pictures they took of my eye and what I might want to watch out for. I came across Berryessa Optometry after simply searching on google for an optometry office that would take all three of my kids ages 4, 7, 10. After a few disappointing phone calls to other offices, I finally found what I was looking for.. a polite lady on the phone setting up all three of my boys for the very next day. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by pleasant smile from the girl behind the front desk, a sweet relaxing aroma, a neat and clean office, children's book (bonus), and a large variety of frames. Very quickly, by a very patient and friendly team member, my boys were called in, got their eye test done and after a few questions were ready to be seen by Dr, Hung Mac. It only got better from there. My boys chatted away with Dr Hung and he was extremely informative and took the time to explain everything about the results of each exam. My boys also had a great experience and were super happy to find the glasses of their choice. We had the opinion and suggestions of another team member who helped us choose the best frames for two of the boys. After a little bit of chaos while we were choosing the frames and getting prices, Dr Hung went out of his way and out of his office to come out and help me out, yes, help me out! Not only did he bring out some paper and crayons, he literally started to draw with my boys so that I can finally finish the process and get on with my day. Look no further! For the first time since we have been going to Berryessa Optometry, 10+ years, today was the first time I didn't go with my kids. I thought I could trust that they would be guided and taken care of well by the team at Berryessa Optometry. Typically, in all my years of taking them, my out of pocket expense is minimal, as they guide us to stay as close to the VSP allowances as possible (with a little out of pocket). Imagine my shock, when my boys said that each of their out of pocket this time would be about $300. Luckily they had not yet paid and I told them to leave. I feel like the person who attended to my young adults upsold them to the tune of almost $600 out of pocket. I am now reconsidering whether to continue my patronage at Berryessa Optometry. I miss Ben, who provided excellent service to our family. Very disappointed!!!! read more

Dr. Mac is only reason my family continues doing there. We've been with them since 2000 and their staff has always been consistently terrible, and is only getting worse. With the exception of Ruth, everyone is unfriendly, unsmiling and unwilling to to help you if you have questions. The last time I was there, they handled me my eyewear and all paperwork and when I asked for a bag, the staff member literally rolled her eyes at me. Very poor customer service. read more

He was a great eye doctor, he is very knowledgeable he will always check you all the way to find out if you have some issues with your eyes. He will also explain to you one by one to you about your eyes condition and always give you advice on how to take care your eyes and mostly your health if you're diabetic. I went there for my regular eye checkup. The overall experience was great. They follow COVID guidelines diligently. Dr Mac is such an amazing doctor. I love going to him for my eye appointments. He's friendly and give the best advice. He make sure that you're comfortable and you'll feel like you're talking to a friend. The only thing I feel that they can improve on is the eye wear collection. Eyewear collection is limited and they had only few options of eye wear that is affordable and is actually covered by your insurance. But apart from that I have no complaints. read more

Check in was great and the front desk staff really made me feel welcome and like I've been there for years even though it was my first appointment. The pretesting staff were very knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable with the preliminary questions. I had my eyes checked by Dr. Mac who did a very thorough exam and was able to answer several of my concerns. He also fitted me with contacts that were very comfortable. The staff were very welcoming. They did have to unlock the door & take my temperature. I noticed all the plexiglass at each station & sign that informed us that all equipment is wiped down /sanitized after each use. It's the norm nowadays during these covid times. Dr. Mac went over my exam & said my left eye is weaker this time but not enough of change for me to get new glasses. That's good. I don't think I could afford a new pair at moment. Updating: Years have gone by (of course coming for yearly and mid yearly check ins for my daughter and I) and my appreciation and love for this office and it's entire staff hasn't wavered a bit! I just love them. The front desk are true gems! Always friendly, smiling and personable as well as helpful and kind. My daughter and I enjoy talking with them at our visits. They even help me decide which frames when I can't decide ;) The techs are sweet and patient esp when my daughter didn't want to cooperate her last eye exam visit they never got frustrated with her which makes it more calming and less stressful for us. These type of things don't go un-noticed to me. Dealing with patients on a daily as well. Ben is still my go to guy ! He knows my face structure and glasses style so well he always makes picking out new frames enjoyable for both my 6 yr old and myself. Dr Mac is outstanding and is the best. He really knows and cares for his patients. He remembers personal things going on in my life and it makes the whole experience carefree and feels like you're visiting family. He's so patient and loving with my daughter. Even when we moved further away I made the drive here because I enjoy this office and team so much.
