Drain plug on my car was partially stripped and over torqued by another shop during last oil change, and my floor jack doesn't give me enough working room to use breaker bar to remove it myself. After an unpleasant visit at Livingston Tire Company, I found this place on Yelp and decided to reach out to them for help. Bernie is absolutely amazing and a pleasure to talk to, he listened to my car problem and looked at the car and said he will help me. I was in and out in 1 hour with drain plug and oil replaced. I'd give Bernie's 10 stars if I could. The tech who serviced my Porsche's had migrated to Bernie's, so when a pesky check engine fault on my present car caused me to fail inspection I brought it to him at Bernie's. They were able to diagnose and clear the codes, and said to bring it back after another 100 miles to be rechecked. I did, the car passed inspection, and I'm good for another 2 years! Clean, comfortable shop, good coffee, great hours (7AM, baby!), and inexpensive. Highly, highly recommended! read more

I came in here today because I was concerned my car was leaking oil. They took me in right away. Scott, the mechanic, showed me that everything underneath looked dry and they could not identify any leaks. They got me in and out and for the diagnostic they did not charge me anything. I've also been in here with another vehicle and they did a very nice job and reasonably priced. I'm very happy with the service here and will be frequenting them in the future. read more

I got my oil change done here. Excellent service for the oil change. Quoted me $20 to change it since I had brought my own 5qts of synthetic oil with me. He tells me, "the mechanic topped off your anti freeze because you had about half." I'm like okay great! Not expecting to pay for it since I wasn't told they were going to do that but instead voluntarily did it. So I'm expecting to pay $20 and some change for taxes. I pass him my card and he says that'll be $28.45. I'm shocked and said, wait, how much tax? He says, $1.45. I ask, So you charged me for anti freeze that I didn't even ask for? I have a whole bottle at home that I could've done myself. Lol and he says, well you brought your own oil, we're not really making money. I tell him, youre already charging me $20 for the labor, what do you mean you're not making money? He then proceeds to swipe my card anyway for the $28.45 after the conversation! Lol geez. #moneyhungry #greedy #crook he gives me the receipt to sign. Of course I don't. He says, well what do you want us to do, suck it out? I said, yeah actually. Please do because that wasn't something I asked for. (I think he was bluffing because when he told the mechanic to do it, the mechanic said no he's not going to do that and to just give me back my money. Lol) Mechanic was cool. The other dude.. Not so much. Unfortunately, he represents the entire company too so. 2 stars. Moral of the story? Always itemize your receipt and the charges. Dont pay for the services you didn't ask for. Some mechanics are cool enough to give it to you on the house. Others, like this one, are crooks. Enjoy! read more

Took my Audi to a dealer for a recall issue. They of course ran a full diagnostic in an attempt to take advantage of my car being in their shop. Estimated cost: $4,460. Took work description to Bernie's. Total cost of needed repairs: $406 (save for 1 hr of labor, all parts). Audi cost for the work Bernie's performed: $682. So Bernie's was 60% of the cost on like repairs and I avoided more than $4K of unnecessary work. Thanks Bernie's! I've known Bernie for more than 20 years. Within my extended family, he has worked on all sorts of cars: Audi, BMW, Ford, Honda, Lexus, Dodge, Jeep, etc. Always provides excellent service and absolutely trustworthy. read more

When I first walked into Bernie's, I was armed with a prior estimate from an Audi dealer as to what I needed and what the price should be. They gave me a terrific estimate and I agreed to have the work done. I made an appointment to have the work done 4 days later. I arranged it so that I could work from the shop as they said it would take a few hours to complete. When I showed up this morning to have the work done, everything seemed fine. They told me I would be done after lunch. Figuring that I had a number of hours to kill, I decided to walk over a mile to Starbucks, the closest coffee shop in the area. After a 20 minute walk, they called me on the phone to alert me that they did not have the part in stock, they would have to order it, that it would take 2 days to arrive AND it would be more than double the original estimate. Further, this required me to take an additional day off of work. Instead of them apologizing for their mistakes, they acted as though I was at fault and gave me attitude when I questoined how this could have happened. They should have checked to see if they had the part originally and this whole issue could have been avoided. They had no reasonable excuse as to why the price more than doubled without any change in the scope of the work to be done. And worse, they were not at all apologetic for their mistake. I even told them of my desire to have them show at least a small amount of remorse for creating the inconvenience and they were unable or unwilling to provide it. I will never utilize their services again. read more

I've gone to Bernie's for 3 cars over 10 years. BJ, the current owner, is the most down-to-earth guy I've dealt with. He's honest, always gives me more for my money, and goes above and beyond. When my battery died while in my driveway, he came to my house to give me a jump. When my electrical system blew, he fixed numerous problems and gave me discounts. When I bought my car from him, he gave me a year of free oil changes. He also showed me how much he made from the sale -- a pittance. I can't recommend Bernie's highly enough. The antifreeze thing cost $8 in the end. I'll just say that $8 is negligible for anyone who wants to rely on a vehicle. If you want the mechanics that you take your car to for service to always be sure to use only your materials ever, you should always be sure to tell them in advance. Then they can decide whether or not they can work with you. When you take your vehicle to Bernie for an oil change/service, he checks all the basics and makes them right if they're lacking in any way. I for one, someone who is not prepared to provide materials or advice, appreciate this kind of attention more than I can say. Money has never gotten in the way, if anything Bernie is too generous! I don't have a lot of $ now, and I had much less thirty years ago. Bernie has been taking care of my cars and me since when his father was in charge, thirty years ago, and I have nothing but praise for either one of them.
