I notice the other hotels and resort are located in Winthrop the downtown area, which basically have the entrance hotel room doors shown to the public. This cabin and lodge are tucked away from the busy downtown area and the cool thing is you can just walk to the downtown area by crossing the bridge on foot. Heyyyyyyyy! My husband, our daughter, and I did that in order to get our walks in. The walking distance isn't that bad since Winthrop is so small with cute local business shops. Let's talk about the room and the amenities: clean room. Just as advertised. We got what we wanted: king suite with sofa bed and river view. Tv works. Coffee, small fridge, and microwave work. Also, the key works for the door, so that was nice. When you know you'd be arriving late at the property after 6 pm, it's best to contact the hotel before 4 pm to catch up with the receptionist and inform them that you'd be arriving later after normal business hours, so an access key code would be texted to you. Continental breakfast is available in the morning if you're in the mood for typical muffins or breakfast bars. Coffee is available in the hotel room, and you have to get your tea in the lobby during breakfast hours. We would come back here in the future!

Somebody was sleeping in there. Come to find out the room had never been cleaned. The hotel was full and there were no other rooms available. We asked for a refund so we could go somewhere else. But a couple of weeks ago I was taking a spontaneous trip up the North Cascades Highway and was looking for a place to stay in/near Winthrop. Literally the ONLY place with availability was the North Cascades Mountain Hostel. So, a bit reluctantly, I booked a bed. Imagine my surprise when I arrived. This place was fantastic. So clean and quiet, and just a block from Winthrop's cowboy-themed main street. I quickly found my bottom bunk and went to explore the town - but not before chatting with another hostel guest, who was from Germany and had just finished the PCT. So cool! After galavanting around the wooden sidewalks and having a beer at the Old Schoolhouse Brewery I returned to the hostel, grabbed a book of short stories from the bookshelf in the kitchen, and chit-chatted with the only other person sharing my room (a woman from Montana) until I drifted off to sleep. This place was clean and cute and I'd definitely stay there again. I was there during covid, so they are doing limited occupancy and masks are required. It was a great deal for $38/night, which I booked directly on their website.

I left with my sides aching from laughter and my feet blistered from forging 18 mile trails with new hostel friends on treks that I never imagined possible on my own. I chose this place as a home base for doing some day hiking in the North Cascades based on yelp and tripadvisor reviews, and all of the 5 star ratings are spot on - I couldn't have been happier with my decision. The beds were super comfy for my aching bones, and even as a light sleeper I felt well rested here, and I never had to wait to use the shower. This is the perfect location for visiting some absolutely extraordinary regions of the North Cascades, and the Mazama Store is just a short drive away for the best pre-hike breakfast and coffee and top-notch trail snacks. As a solo female traveller relatively new to hostels in the US, I was a bit skeptical going into this simply because I wasn't sure what to expect, but I felt at ease as soon as I walked through the bicycle-spoked gate, and came out feeling like I had made lifelong friends. The owner Paul could not have been more accommodating, and I absolutely loved snuggling with the resident black lab "Biscuit". The whole layout of the hostel is really designed for people to easily connect with one another and I really appreciated that. I had done a lot of research on the N. Cascades going into this trip, overwhelmed at times by all the possibilities of trails to explore, and Paul affirmed my routes by offering additional pieces of helpful advice that only a local could really affirm. He had so many great insider tips on how to make the most of my time in the North Cascades and it was so very enriching having his "insiders insight" guiding me along. He was very encouraging of my excursions, and I think had it not been for his insider tips I may not have explored quite as much as I did! For example, doing Cutthroat pass the entire way through and hitching a ride back. As an East Coaster, I had a lot of skepticism about hitchhiking - but I ended up meeting a ton of badass women hiking solo on the trail that day, and the folks I ended up hitching back with I had actually met a day earlier doing Maple Pass. Trail magic :) He also had great suggestions on places to eat (Copper Glance fulfilled my grilled cheese craving for at least another year!!!) and other ways to spend time in the quirky, charming, adventurous, outdoorsy little town of Winthrop. I also had a ton of fun cooking "family dinners" with other folks from the hostel - it was such a great way to come together and get to know my fellow travelers and I really appreciated how open the other guests were to conversation and getting to know one another. I can't think of a single reason why anyone wouldn't want to book a stay at N. Cascades Mountain Hostel. Don't think twice. You'll have a total blast. I can't wait to go back!!

As we…read morewere traveling with 3 families - a total of 7 adults, and 3 kids under 5 - we were able to bring 3 cars with us. The rental was spacious with one master, and two additional bedrooms. One bedroom had both a bunkbed and a queen size bed. In addition, there was a pullout sofa bed in the living room. The kitchen had all the necessities we needed. In fact, I could have baked something if I knew baking ware was included. And all of the cooking pans, tools and other kitchen amenities were of quality. No scratches on the pans as I normally see in other places we have rented. The view was stunning as it was the water and mountain that took the view. Not even a 5 minute walk, there are a bunch of bars/wineries and food options to peruse. And about 20-30 minutes drive in/out are the larger, fancier wineries. There was also a casino in the area as well. The price tag is a bit on the higher end but is doable for bigger groups so as to split the cost. I would certainly recommend this place and would love to return. Communication between the property manager and I were prompt, which I appreciate very much.

The kitchen had all the necessary utensils, plates, cups, pots, and pans. In one of the mornings, we even made pancakes! Bathrooms were large enough which was nice especially in a large group. Red Apples was about 10 min away. Beware though, if you're hungry in the middle of the night, make sure to stock up in the fridge because their grocery stores are not 24-hours like in Seattle. Fortunately, I brought enough beef jerkeys. We didn't have time to explore Downtown Mason, but that was only two blocks away. Boat and other water activities rentals were also two blocks away which was great! We rented a boat and went on a winery tour in Chelan. Downtown Chelan was about 30 minutes away from where we stayed at, but the drive wasn't too bad. You do need to take out the trash and put in a load into the laundry machine before you leave though. I think that's normal if you're renting for a few days. The only downside was the noise upstair. There was another bachelorette party above us so I was able to hear them in the middle of the night whilst I was trying to sleep. However, the noise wasn't too bad since the other gals in my group slept quite well. I was just a light sleeper. Debbie, our main source of contact was very professional. We were able to check in early. Tracey, I think that was her name, was very helpful as well. Our code to get into our place didn't work so we had to get another code. Tracey, who was there when we arrived, made sure that we had a code that worked. But other than that, I would definitely come again with my family. If only they accept small dogs. I would definitely bring my Maltese if they allow it. :)

It was a bit steep for a Monday evening, totaling $211 with taxes. Upon driving in, on the left hand side was an eyesore, reminiscent of the Texas Chainsaw massacre with car parts strewn all over the lawn, a bit eery. Maybe that's where you end up if you don't pay! The manager on duty was very polite, and let us check in a couple hours earlier than their normal check in. The maids were still cleaning the room when we arrived. They only allow one person at a time at the hotel desk so they abide by COVID rules. Every employee we came across wore masks. We stayed in the main building up on the second floor. Enter room. Very clean. On the left is a closet with permanent hangers and a vanity with soaps and lotions (beware the soap does not foam at all, was it really soap?), and then the bathroom. Lots of towels. In the room straight ahead is a loveseat and and A/C unit that works very well. There were two queen beds with that cute "you're on the river" bed posts. Quilted blankets for that homey feel. Pretty sure they aren't cleaning the quilts between guests though, didn't smell fresh. Pillows were comfy. Beds were firm, but I found it quite comfortable. They supply a mini fridge and a microwave and a coffee station. There is a tv, but it's about the size of a laptop monitor, pretty small. Normally they have a place where you can borrow DVD's to watch or board games to play, but during COVID, they are not doing that. The best part of the Inn is that our patio overlooked the River, which is very relaxing. The screen door fell off the tracks multiple times so I decided to just leave it parked at an angle outside the sliding glass door. They provided a citronella candle (nice touch) in case you didn't want to experience mosquito genocide. Not relaxing was the giant tree being escavated within our front view, and was loud, ruining an otherwise perfect view of the water. Before dinner, we laid out in the hammock and got some shut eye. After dinner we came back, as I had reserved an hour (they allow you to sign yourself up on a sheet outside the indoor pool on premises) for the pool and the hot tub. Beware, the hot tub.... it's hot. Burned my keister. :P The wi-fi was somewhat slow and made it somewhat difficult to plan the next days adventures. We still managed to get a decent nights sleep, and check out was quick and easy.

We stayed in Cabin #12 and it was very nice. It was clean and neat. It came equipped with a full kitchen. We used the refrigerator but did not cook. There was a stack of napkins on the nook table but no paper towels available. Next time I'll remember a roll. The deck was right above the river and was very scenic. The hot tub was very useful to us and we sat in it stargazing for hours. The setting is private with privacy screens on both sides. We had neighbors on both sides of us who were also outside but all was peaceful. Good nature sounds out there. The check in procedure was flawless. It was all faceless and we never entered the office or saw any staff at all. They had our credit card number and sent us an email the day we arrived with the key box code. I'm assuming Covid prompted that procedure but it was smooth. There were a couple rocking chairs and a couch in the tv area. Under the tv was a DVD player and we watched some old Bogart/Bacall movies. Very cool. We already booked another trip next time Washington Pass is clear.
