Imagine hiring a contractor to improve your home, then discovering after the crew leaves that newly installed exterior doors cannot reliably lock, storm doors lack functioning handles or locks, and some entrances cannot be used normally. Now imagine realizing this while your child sleeps inside. Our project involved five exterior doors, four storm doors, James Hardie siding, and closing an exterior window. At one stage, three of four storm doors lacked essential operating hardware. We had to ask: Can we secure our home tonight? Could we use these doors during an emergency? Is our child safe? We could not postpone urgent corrections indefinitely while the owner blocked us, so on our own, we hired consultants to investigate the concerns and offer recommendations. The project was expected to be completed March 16-20, 2026, but remained unresolved months later. Hawkins continued demanding $9,577.20, which we disputed based on incomplete work, corrective costs, credits, reduced scope, and the undelivered door. Because of Hawkins lack of quality control in all aspects of its business, poor documentation and communication, and the countless risks associated with their unacceptable quality of workmanship, we hired consultants and other contractors, involved attorneys, disputed the balance, and completely lost trust & confidence. I'd received various quotes for the job which all seemed too high, but Honest Abe's price was fair for the amount of work required. I was surprised that the job was done in only three days: One day for removing old siding, one day for putting up new siding, and a third day for painting. The quality of the work is very good. My HOA requires me to maintain the same look and colors of my neighbors. Honest Abe was able to match the paint without trouble, and now my walls look like new. There were some issues with electrical work while working on the siding. My detached garage has an outside sub-panel that they needed to move aside during the work. Also, at some point during construction, a nail apparently drove through an electrical line in my bedroom wall, knocking out service. Honest Abe paid for both of these repairs to be corrected, which I think is very honest indeed. All in all, I'm impressed with the craftsmanship of the workers, and the integrity of the company, and I must highly recommend them for any construction needs. We had 20 windows installed, 13 on the first floor and 7 on the second floor. We had the triple pane windows installed and we are very pleased with the comfort of our home from day one after the windows were installed. We had original and double pane windows replaced by triple pane, we're here to tell you they have made all the difference in the comfort of our home. We have seen the comfort level of our second floor go from uncomfortable, from hot in the spring/summers past, to being cool and comfortable. We look forward to this fall/winter to experience if we will be just as pleased, I will try to remember and post later. We have differently noticed lower electric bills, we are total electric. Their installers were polite, professional and worked efficiently to complete our home in two days, remember we had 20 windows installed. The cost, it averaged out to $950 per window/installled. The sale of the windows was an experience. I felt pressured into the deal, what I mean is, WHE was the first company we contacted. In order to get the deal/cost we paid we had to sign the contract that evening. I would've liked to shopped at least one other company. I don't know if I got the best deal, but in hindsight I know I did. After reading some reviews from the likes of Renewal by Anderson, we have not had any bad experiences with WHEs product, they delivered on their product and installation, with no complaints. It would have been difficult comparing this product to the others out there, they all have their differences. But I feel we got a very good product for the money. These will pay for themselves in 9-10 years. I need to save 1800 a year to offset the cost in 10 years. Give WHE a serious look when you decide it's time for you, I don't think it you will go wrong.
