We had the pleasure of staying at Eagle's Nest as organizers for our motorhome rally in May 2019…read more Paul was wonderful in helping plan the rally, and throughout the course of the event. We found all the staff at Eagle's Nest to be very pleasant, friendly and accommodating. We had about 15 rigs, and rented one cabin. Paul placed us in sites very near each other, and close to the pavilion which perfectly met our needs for the event. The pavilion near the creek, with electricity, lighting, a nearby restroom, and running water, was a great set-up for our group meetings and meals. Paul even set up a fire ring near the pavilion for our evening campfire and music. The camp facilities were very clean and level, with full services at each site. The restaurant on site (Fireside Inn) has an extensive menu. Try the cauliflower soup ... it is FABULOUS. Eagles Nest is conveniently located near Cumberland, MD - a great local tourism spot with museums, shops, restaurants, and a scenic railroad ride. The campground is still a work in progress and we look forward to going back to see how it is coming along. Paul has a great vision for further improvements and is working hard toward that end. With a mix of seasonal and transient residents, most in self-contained units, there is little need for public facilities. Some in our group might have preferred a public bathhouse (in future development plan), but the lack of a public bathhouse would not prevent our return. Happy trails ...

We had a great experience at Eagle's Nest September 2019, our 39th annual 'Rolling Thunder' rally. The camping, accommodations, food and entertainment were some of the best we have enjoyed. I enjoyed flyfishing on Patterson Creek, on the banks of which I pitched my tent. The Club had a great time and we will surely return in the future. Thanks Paul, et. al.! John T. With that being said, it does cater to many seasonal, long term sites where the campers do not ever move their RV. All of the people were super friendly, both the staff and the long-term campers. We were here during the week and it was super quite. I can see the weekend being a bit louder, but that is every campground. You are about a mile hike from the Western Maryland Rail Trail.or short 5min or sondrive to the C&O Canal Towpath. Both are very pleasant ways to spend your time if you're not using the amenities at the campground (pool, volleyball, basketball, mini-golf). There is a store that is pretty fairly priced for many items and a food service area that is only open on weekends (seems to not be busy during the week). The only negative would be that because most of the campers are seasonal/long-term, they all have golf carts or 4-wheelers that they ride around on and that can get old quick. I would say that it is well worth the cost and if you needed a place to stay, worth giving them a shot.

The walk to the waterfall is moderate and enjoyable, not too long but enough to make you feel like you earned the view at the end. The sound of the water and the peaceful atmosphere make it a great escape from daily routines. The park is clean and well maintained and there are plenty of picnic areas where you can relax after your hike. I also liked that the parking was easy to find and there were signs guiding the way clearly. It can get a little crowded during weekends so coming earlier in the day is definitely a better idea. Overall it's a calm and scenic spot for hiking relaxing or just breathing some fresh air. It's not the biggest waterfall you'll see but the overall vibe of the park makes it worth visiting at least once if you're around the area.

A bit of a mixed bag for me at Cunningham Falls…read more.. I was excited to find a listing of parks that supposedly had wheelchair accessible trails. I've never been to Cunningham Falls before and the idea of seeing a waterfall seemed lovely. However, the accessible boardwalk has strips on pretty much everything board which made me feel like I was riding a very angry horse. Each bump shot pain up my spine. I'm writing this a day later and I still hurt, and I think I'm a pretty tough chick... and the view of the falls was mostly blocked and not worth the actual pain. The Falls is more like a small stream of water that splashes down some rocks. It's a soothing noise but I was expecting something more grandiose... I suppose I could blame climate change. Most of the old stream beds are dry. We also checked out the "south beach" which I enjoyed. There's plenty of pavement, and packed gravel. I couldn't get close to the water, but that's okay because it was a sunny day and I prefer to stick to the shade. I was impressed by the fact that every picnic table has a grill nearby. If I lived closer I'd like to think I'd come to the south beach often, hide in the trees near the river, grill something delicious... but I was a several hours long trip from Dundalk, so it's unlikely that I'll return. It was a nice day-trip though. I don't regret going.

While I'm sure there is excellent hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, camping - etc. - etc. - etc…read more going on here, we just came for the overlook. For years I've seen the signs, the same as everyone that traverses 68, about a scenic overlook, this time, it was finally time to see just how scenic is scenic. First off, super easy to find the overlook. Exit 64 off of 68, this applies to either direction, then it's just two right turns to the main park office. Plenty of offseason parking in winter, as you would expect, and there is good signage telling you where to go for the office, the overlook, outside seasonal restrooms and some of the nearby trails. From there it's maybe a fifty or sixty yard walk down a small sloped path to the wooden planked overlook. Kudos to the staff that even though it had just snowed the day prior, they had a small path cleared so that you could walk out on to the platform. Granted, the platform was also coated in thick ice, but that's another story. Excellent views of the forest landscape and of Fifteen Mile Creek. We didn't last long as even though it was sunny, it was still below freezing with a hell of a stiff breeze. On the way back up the trail we did stop briefly in the park office looking for a map as a souvenir/memento and while the door was open and there was a state vehicle parked outside (just our car and that one), nobody was there so we left as it felt...odd. The park itself is massive and hopefully in the future we can make the time to come back and explore more.
