They recently opened up The Living Room area in the lobby which has breakfast in the morning and snacks and drinks in the evening. They also gave us drink tickets as well to use on coffee or drinks. Breakfast starts at 8am, but I am an early riser and was hoping for a coffee while I watched the sunrise. I did make a tea with the electric kettle in the room. The lobby/Living Room set up is perfect for drinks, not so much for a family having breakfast. They do sell local Michigan snacks, but you have to ask at the front desk and they have to find them. I would've just preferred a vending machine or an easier way to get snacks between 8pm and 8am when the Living Room is not open. The pool and jacuzzi were great, but we did have a hard time finding them. The indoor pool entrance was through an unmarked door on the second floor so it took us a few minutes of exploring to find it. I don't think the indoor pool was heated, but it wasn't too bad. The hotel is very centrally located so it was just a short drive to the beach, restaurants, and shopping.

The food was average at best. Nothing to write home about especially the quiche and the muffins. If they want more stars, it is the little things that matter.

The hotel also provides bikes to rent but we found that most places are walking distance and the roads/paths are not very bike friendly. Check in was super simple. Our room was very clean and updated. I wish they had smart TVs to connect to Netflix but we didn't spend much time watching TV anyways so it wasn't a big issue. The restaurant did seemed to get a bit noisy at night which drifted up to our room. The breakfast baskets were a BIG hit! The frittatas tasted so good! The fruit cups were also so fresh. I tried the prosciutto croissant on our last day which hit the spot. The quality of food was top notch - just wish we were able to order more! I had an appointment at the spa as well during our stay. The spa staff is super friendly. I used the robe and spa slippers provided in our room and spent some time in the salt water pool and hot tub before my appointment.

The room itself is comfortable, but we did have difficulty fully closing the blackout curtains (we used a hanger with the clamps to keep it closed for privacy at night). The bed is ok, spring mattress with pillow top cover. The room also had a mini fridge, microwave, and safety deposit box. When you check in you also get a $10 coupon to use for grubhub to order from local restaurants. Breakfast is free and standard for typical Hampton Inn's.

There's also a lot of local brochures and an awesome DVD collection. We stayed over the rainiest weekend of all time. The cabin was cozy and we certainly enjoyed that amazing DVD collection- something for everyone. There is wifi which seemed a tad slow, but given the location and weather I was not surprised by that. The cabin stayed toasty even though we didn't turn up the thermostat or light the wood stove. The hot tub was quite nice for an evening when it finally stopped raining for an hour. Bill's Cabin is totally adorable in its rustic décor, and we absolutely loved the cat theme too! We were also told the cabins are pet friendly. Breakfast in the morning is great- pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit (HUGE honey crisp apples!!), juice, coffee. Great company with other guests and the owner, AJ. When we arrived the first night (around 8pm due to crazy weather), AJ was waiting and ready to give us a little tour. He even directed us to some local restaurants that would still be serving dinner. Location is a short drive to all the tourist locations and just a couple blocks from the lake. We worried about a number of things, but it turned out to be a fantastic family gathering. It easily accommodated about 30 of us. My parents brought there fifth wheel, and parked in the drive way. there was plenty of parking. For fun we cooked together (there is a grill, microwave) talked around the fire and we went across the street to the park and played a bunch of games. HCC has a lot of games available for guest already there. the beds were great. it's my kind of glamping - Glamorous camping. my wife and i were worried about the street and traffic noise and danger, but it didn't prove to be a problem. and lastly, Nicollete who runs the HCC, is ridiculously helpful and kind.

Unfortunately, the rest of our stay didn't improve. The room was uncomfortable both nights. The first night it was freezing cold, and the second night it was warm and muggy. Neither my sister nor I slept well. The bathroom had several maintenance issues. The light switch cover was sitting on the sink instead of attached to the wall, leaving the electrical switch exposed. The bathtub had mold or some other buildup on the bottom that neither of us wanted to stand on, so we both skipped showering during our stay. The toilet also required holding the handle down every single time it was flushed. Breakfast was one of the worst hotel breakfasts I've experienced. The eggs and sausage looked like they had been sitting out for hours and were dried beyond recognition. Honestly, it would be better not to offer breakfast at all than to serve food of that quality. Overall, this stay was disappointing from beginning to end. Between the misleading advertising, uncomfortable room, maintenance issues, poor cleanliness, and terrible breakfast, I would not stay here again.
