I am a first time home owner builder, I ordered all my lumber for my house at Berry after talking with Terry. (My framer told me to buy the lumber from a Big Box store, but I refused). I am so lucky that I chose Berry because my framer did make some mistakes in sizes of the posts, Berry made it so easy for me to change to the right one. Not only the services at Berry is so much better but also the quality of the lumber. My framers told me several times while they was framing that the woods is so heavy:), they said "you have very good lumbers". I want to say thank you for Berry Lumber and Terry, he knew that I had no clues about lumber at that time but he treated me as the same as a pro contractor. Ordered some custom milled wood and paid through the nose. Okay, no problem, it saves me some time. It arrived and, stupid me, I didn't check the dimensions while in the yard. It was 1/2" over on both dimensions and now no one seems to want to help resolve the problem. I haven't yet purchased my item, but I wanted to comment on the excellent customer service by Mike Kelly. I called yesterday 15 minutes before closing looking for 4x4x16 posts and live 30 minutes away. Mike was willing to stay after closing until we got there. When my vehicle wasn't adequate to transport the item, Mike said if he had a truck he would have personally delivered the item. They are closed today, but I'll be calling back to place my order. You don't often still find service like this. If you're considering using this lumber years I encourage you to do so. read more

I'm building a home and purchased our lumber package from Berry Lumber. Part of our lumber included custom milled 25' beams for our great room. Those beams were delayed at the mill due to the trucker shortage which stopped our project. When the mill couldn't provide a date certain for delivery, Berry Lumber stepped up and sent a truck to Portland, Oregon to get the beams so our project wouldn't be further delayed. Great service with fantastic employees. My husband and I made the drive out here after leaving a different establishment that left a sour taste in our mouths. The difference was night and day. We will happily make the long drive out here next time we need supplies. We told Vitaliy what we needed and our intended purpose, and he walked us over to a few different recommendations. We're new homeowners and he patiently answered various questions we had and never once made us feel like we were a nuisance to him. We ended up going with something he recommended and were thrilled with it. Accidentally drove to the right side of the building for our lumber (whoops), and a few minutes later someone kindly told us we were in the wrong spot and should head over to the left side instead. Immediately, an employee asked us for our loading ticket and went to get our lumber. A handful of other employees also checked in on us to make sure we'd been helped. We asked for a 12 ft long piece of limber to be cut in half so we could fit it in our car, and they told us it would be a few more minutes because the saw wasn't working. We could hear them asking each other if they needed help with this and that, and it was great to see them supporting each other. Every employee inside and outside had a mask on, which was greatly appreciated as the previous lumberyard we were at did not practice safe protocols. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone. Experienced or not, they will treat you with professionalism and get you what you need. read more

Yard guys are worthless. I bought something at Berco Lumber and had to pickup at Berry....even though I had safe transport for the 5 boards I bought they would not let me load it. I would not give them a dime of my business, yard guys think they own the place and the roads of Sacramento, ridiculous. Run Away from these idiots. The vehicle owner decides what and how to load a vehicle, not the 20yo chump in the yard. I've been using Berry Lumber and Berco Redwood as my go to source for lumber for years! Can't say enough about this family run business and the quality and concern they show the customers. Something you can only get with a smaller family business that really cares about you and not the bottom dollar line 1st! Sure they are a business, not a charity, but if you need it, they make sure you get it right away at a fair price. This last order I needed was unique special order material - 36 foot LVL beams, 4 x 8 resawn material, and specialty hardware to install it all. I have my favorites of course - at the Sacramento Auburn Blvd store I look for Eric, Steve, or Nick-all super knowledgeable and customer satisfaction oriented. At the Roseville Auburn Blvd store I look for Luke, Steve, and Francisco to get my order done. Arrogant and rude manager. They Will not follow their own policy and have a lame policy. I have never been to any lumber yard that force you to buy additional product or they won't load your vehicle. I never asked the items to be loaded and I dont need help loading a piece of wood. it is the buyers responsibility to safely secure it. Not the business. But they want to control how you should secure the item and BUY additional items to make it safer. Pathetic. I buy what I need not the business tell me what I must need. Take your business else where. Never again and all the stuff cost more than Home depot and lowes. No one needs to be told how to put the item on my vehicle. It was paid for and it is none of your business how I transport the item. I got my refund and they can sell it to a brainless obedient dog or sheep. read more

Berry Lumber is one of those old-fashioned family lumber supply places that haven't yet been swallowed up - or killed off - by Home Depot/Lowe's. The company opened in 1961 and they've stayed open with good customer service and good product. If you need custom or stock redwood, or old redwood retrofit siding, this is one of the best in Sacramento. Thanks to Berry, we were able to match our 76 year old home's 8 inch ship-lap redwood siding with a new, beautifully milled, primed redwood siding product. Cheap? About as cheap as replacing your old F-150 with a brand new 2016 model. But, we got a beautiful fit and finish and it's going to last a long time. read more

We are building our dream home and have gone to Berry Lumber for as much as possible. I just wish they sold everything! We would buy our kitchen sink from them if that was an option! Nick has been the best. We have changed our interior door scheme about a million times, and Nick just keeps flowing right along with us. He is a wealth of knowledge and catches everything. I have never had to call him twice. I call, and either talk directly to him, or I leave a message and he calls me right back. I know that may seem small but in the construction world, that's huge! I can't say enough about this company. I will continue to use Berry Lumber for everything, even if they start selling groceries there! read more

Terrible experience!! I would recommend taking your business somewhere else. The manager actually called me a p%$$y! I couldn't believe it. I have never been treated so poorly as a customer. So here's what happened: I needed to replace some siding shingles on one of the walls of my house. I'm not a contractor so I brought one of the old shingles in to make sure they knew what I needed, and could sell me the same thing. The guy said he had them, and sold me 4 boxes(but never showed me a sample) for almost $600 total. I got them home and the installer opened up one of the boxes and started to cut some of them for the first half height row, until he noticed they were the wrong size. I was shocked that they had sold me the wrong size, being that I had brought in a sample to match. I went back to Berry Lumber to return the shingles and they did give me my refund for the 3 unopened boxes, but refused to refund the fourth. The manager (bald, overweight guy) said they don't accept returns if the box is opened. I explained the situation how I brought in a sample shingle to match and his salesman sold me the wrong size. The manager proceeded to blame my installer, saying that he should have realized they were the wrong size before he opened the box. That may be true, maybe my installer made a mistake, but that mistake wouldn't have happened if the salesman at Berry Lumber had sold me the correct product to begin with. The manager wouldn't budge, so I offered to split it with him, which I thought was pretty generous of me. He refused and just started walking away. I told him I would leave a review about my experience which could end up costing him more than just splitting the refund with me, and I was about to walk out the door when he said "do it if that's what makes you feel better" and then mumbled "p%$$y". I had been calm up until that point, but now I was mad! I couldn't believe he said that, so I told him to come outside with me. Instead, he ran and hid in his office. I yelled down to his office and told him again to come outside, and he responded by yelling "call 911" to his employees! I couldn't believe it! What kind of a man calls another man a p%$$y, then runs and hides in his office and tells his employees to call 911!! At that point, I just got in my truck and left, but as I was driving away I kept asking myself "did that really just happen"? I have written quite a few reviews on Yelp, but here I am writing my first bad review ever! It seems like most businesses I patronize truly care about providing a great customer experience, but apparently that is not the case with Berry Lumber. read more

Customer service plus price makes Berry a "go to" in my book, even though they are 55mi from us. Take in the bom shopping list and review with Nick at the counter, he has good suggestions. Let them gather the bom and load your truck, excellent loading job. My only concern was that my 2x6x10 studs were very mixed in quality, about 25% well seasoned, the rest just ok. About 20% have white or black mold which I will treat with a bleach spray, and a tiny black beetle. I recognize we are a long way from the days of perfect lumber and while each board is straight, and if a bit green seasoned enough, the quality did give me pause but I see this more as the state of the industry than Berry specifically hence a full 5 stars. Great prices and great customer service. I first discovered Berry Lumber looking for some glu lam beams which they had a great selection of in stock. Their lumber pricing and lumber quality is better than the big box stores and most other lumber yards. They're knowledgeable and more than happy to answer questions intelligently. I've used them as my main material supplier on a both major shop addition and when replacing the siding on my home. Their manager Dick is always helpful and goes the extra mile when dealing with product manufacturers. Best of all, they even deliver up to Pollock Pines! This is a very complete yard and I've found the service to be very good and very helpful , the quality of the lumber is high if they don't have something ( which they have a lot of things in stock that sometimes I think they would need to order it and they have it . also it's the same owner as Berco Redwood right across the street .They only - is check your order to make sure the guys in the yard got everything and its what you wanted smart to do anyway . Very disappointing! We were looking for boards to build a wooden barn door and closet doors. The wood should have a natural beige looking tone to match our flooring. We had the plan to stain the boards after to keep their natural look. We got a sample to take home and then placed an order. As the boards needed to go to the mill to get tongue and groove milled in, things started to go bad. For this special order we had of course to prepay full and agree they wouldn't do a return or exchange. OK, what should go possibly wrong? All was measured very carefully and they knew exactly what we wanted. Despite the fact the milling took very long, what was really unacceptable, was that when they presented us the boards with a color or I should say strains through it from green to almost black! Only a few boards had the color tone our sample had, the wood we were after. Can you believe it? How hard can it be to get more than three boards with the same color tone? Didn't we say not just once we want a natural looking wood and not a paintbox full of 'let's just cut the whole tree in pieces even though in the middle it gets green and then black - who cares'. The salesman, as confronted with the problem said he didn't know the wood (a poplar) would have all this different tones to it. Great, who is the wood expert here? Shouldn't he know what he is selling or at least ask or tell the mill guys, hey the customer wants this or that. Is there no communication with the mill to tell them what we want? We could paint the boards if to stain isn't an option now he said. No, it's not an option! It's not what we wanted and paid almost two thousand bucks for. Thanks for nothing! I cannot possibly express a higher opinion of the quality service I receive each time I go into this store. I have been dealing with these folks for years and this review is long overdue. More than once their sales staff has gone beyond the call of duty to take care of my needs, and although I cannot remember each of the employees names, I do recall most recently a gentleman named Nick that stayed several minutes after closing to make sure my order was prepared. absolute worst company ever. I ordered my materials for a project a week before delivery and scheduled for 9:00 am delivery. At 9:30 I called and left a voicemail. Finally got through and found out they were still cutting the materials. Was told they would be leaving 20 minutes later. One and a half hours later I get a call saying they were leaving. My materials finally showed up at 12:50. They kept telling me they are on it and it would be soon. I kept waiting because they kept lying to me. The delivery guy said they shouldn't promise something that they can't do. The shipping department blamed it on sales and sales blamed it on shipping. They did say they would credit me the shipping charge. That doesn't help me make up for the 4 hours they made me miss. read more

I am building an 800 sq ft shop next to my house in Orangevale by myself piece by piece on weekends. I am not a contractor so I have needed a lot of help. The staff at Berry Lumber are wonderful. They looked at my architects plans which I don't understand and are teaching me week by week as I build. They started by making a complete materials list from my plans $4400. Which a contractor had told me would be $18,000 (just materials). They delivered the bigger bulk of materials first and now Each week I go in and they explain what I need next, why and how to do it. They are very patient and unlike big box supply stores the guys in the yard quickly load it up and I don't spend hours hunting for materials in a big store with no one that really understands what I need. They are friendly and have gone above and beyond in my case to help me. My neighbor recommended Berry as he had great experiences with them several years ago doing a room addition.
