An excellent, locally owned business with the products to create any outdoor environment you may…read morewant using decorative stone and block. Great prices, a knowledgeable and helpful sales staff, with a huge selection of concrete block, stone products, stepping stones, rock veneers etc. They stock products from the most popular manufacturers of hard-scape designs. Their name says stepping stone manufacturers, but this is just one small aspect of their inventory. This is a great starting point for a Do-it-Yourself landscaping project. Many of the block and stone products are modular in design, meaning you can interlock pieces together without requiring a professional installer. The final product looks as if it was professionally done, yet takes a minimal amount of time to do a small area. Even block walls of the Basalite line of modular blocks are held together with hidden pins that are engineered to exceed building code specs. Standard block and stepping stores are available, too, some that are held with only sand in place, others that are joined with mortar. Lots of options to choose from. Contractors will find this location to have just about everything that is needed in wall and stepping stone/walkway materials. A&A has a great yard staff that will load your product for you, plus they have the equipment to be able to cut block or stone to your specifications. Delivery is available on all of their product line. Just all in all a great place to shop for landscaping supplies for your home. Four locations. This Citrus Heights store is located just half a mile south of the I-80, off of Auburn Blvd. View their website for details of their product line and pictures from their design center. It's amazing what can be done without professional skills to make a great looking walkway or wall.

Hastie's Roseville has been my go-to place for dirt, rock and bark needs for over 20 years. The…read morelatest landscape project was to replace an area covered with bark to an upgrade to decorative rock for ease of maintenance. Hastie's has a variety of rock options that nobody else in the region can match. Best pricing, too, and what makes it really good for the homeowner is that you can buy quantities that work for you to avoid waste. From single bag to 1/4 yard increments up to 1 yard and of course whatever large quantity is needed. Still free delivery with a minimum of a four-yard purchase. I've had split loads where they bring two products to my home and still free delivery as long as you have the four-yard minimum. Local store specials on a few products when we can pick up the material without requiring delivery. If you want a small amount, bring a shovel and containers. If you have a pick-up truck Hastie's will load the truck for you using their skip-loaders. Very knowledgeable employees to help us get the product we need and be on our way in minutes. Huge variety of landscape materials. Bulk pricing that also allows us to buy small quantities at reasonable prices, and convenient delivery when needed. Always a good experience working with Hastie's employees and the product has always met expectations. Open Monday thru Saturday. A++

We needed to replenish some of the lava rock in our backyard. We weren't sure how much we needed,…read moreso asked someone at the office if they could give us an idea of what a cubic yard looked like. He showed us a bulldozer's bucket/scooper, and said filled up it's one cubic yard. That was more than we needed, but half that seemed about right. If you want to take home the rock you buy (instead of having it delivered), here's what happens. First, you pay for what you want in the office. Then, they will (quickly) get someone to scoop it up. If you have a pickup, they can dump it right into your truck bed. We had a station wagon, and brought a bunch of boxes and 5-gallon buckets to fill up. So in that case, they made a pile of the half cubic yard, and left it to us to fill up our containers. (We'd brought a shovel, too.) Here are a few things I learned: 1). Do not come soon after it rains. Especially if you're buying lava rock. We got a lot of lava mud mixed in, and all the rock was wet. 2). A half cubic yard is much bigger than it looks! If you need to put rocks down to a 3" depth over a large area, you're going to need many cubic yards. But if you just need some to fill up areas here and there, a quarter cubic yard would have been plenty. In fact, after filling up two 5-gallon buckets, and three very large cardboard boxes, we couldn't take any more. 3). We bought 3/4". I'd estimate that only about 75% are between 1/2" to 1". The rest are bigger or smaller. Also, a guestimate of 2%-3% aren't even lava rocks. This pretty much matches what was already in our backyard (from another source), so I guess that's just the way these are sorted/sold. We needed some bags to store most of what we got for future use. I asked the man in the office, who was nice and helpful, if we could leave the rest of the rocks, and instead get some of the bags they sell. He gave me ten of them (they sell for $2 each), which I thought was very nice of him. (He did say we could instead leave the rocks there, dump our containers, and come back for the rest. But we really didn't need that many!)
