Good service, besides one party when we got in, it was empty. We got our food very fast, including when my partner added some some nigiri on mid-dining. The white tuna sashimi could've had thicker pieces but it tasted good. I had the teriyaki chicken bento box for $15 which had a good amount of food. Came here cuz we were craving Japanese food. Lol. The place is a little small, but there was a steady stream of people coming in to eat. Sadly, the bento boxes seemed to be a mix of Chinese and Japanese good. Hahaha. I was a taken aback by seeing they had orange chicken as a choice for a bento box as that is not a Japanese dish! Hubs and I ordered the lunch bento (salmon teriyaki for him and chicken teriyaki for me). Son and DIL shared a sashimi plate. Surprisingly the sashimi tasted fresh! That was a big surprise. The bento came with a choice of egg drop or miso soup. Sashimi platter 5/5: The fish tasted fresh and not frozen! For the price of good sashimi you can't beat it. It was a little thin but it was awesome fish! Chicken teriyaki bento 3/5: The chicken was dry and I would rather have some real veggies instead of a couple of deep fried california pieces (2). I thought they were mushrooms at first! The california rolls were okay. Salmon teriyaki bento 3/5: The salmon was decent sized chunks. It was more tender than the chicken that's for sure. The service was nice. They were accommodating letting us choose whichever table we wanted. Overall a solid place to get sashimi in ABQ but I wouldn't come and expect authentic bento boxes. If you're okay with orange chicken or sweet and sour bento boxes then you'll be fine! It would actually be a 3.5. The sashimi bumps it up. Tried this place for the first time... as we were trying to pick up lunch close to the area we were in. I love sushi and a good bento box, so was excited.... When we got inside it was nice and well lit. Cute decor and the waiters and workers were all friendly. I ordered a sesame chicken bento box and my husband got the orange chicken bento box. We also ordered a sushi roll to share. The chicken in the bento box was good. The sauces were both good and had excellent flavor... it was a little pricy for the amount of food... but it was good. Cute, small little spot to drop in for some sushi. The service was really great. We were greeted promptly at the door and seated right away. Our food was hot and served quickly as well. Our waitress was always checking on us and didn't forget anything. We sat at the sushi bar and go to speak with the sushi chefs while we ate. A bunch of friendly faces to chat with. Emphasis on the small. You walk into an intimate restaurant with some yummy food. I sat at the bar with my wife. We ordered edamame, shrimp tempura, hand rolls, and two sushi rolls. Stopped by after an adventure with my son. He wanted Asian so I Yelped and this was on the way. Small strip mall style restaurant filled with locals so that is always a good sign. Decent sushi list but seems to be a bento box place as that is what every table had several of literally. The place was packed so we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seater. Service was attentive and efficient. My water glass stayed full most of the time. They were busy. This seems to be a local family owned and operated business and they did a great job. The food looks amazing. It didn't taste as good as their reviews suggest, but I'm glad we gave it a try! It's pretty small inside they had about 8-10 tables available in the whole restaurant. I'm guessing most of their services are take-out or delivery. I'm a big soda person, I definitely love a big Coca Cola when I eat out. I didn't like that the sodas here come from a 12pack and they pour a can of soda inside a glass for you. I can just taste the difference since it wasn't a fountain drink. I'm crazy about my Coke! What can I say! I got the orange chicken plate. The way the chicken was fried was how I like it but the orange chicken sauce was their own version of orange chicken so you might like it. It isn't something I'd order again but I recommend you try it for yourself! The jalapeño chicken plate was rated 6/10 for us because it could have had a lot more flavor. The salad was so tiny when it came to our table I was laughing at my date. We were making jokes, BUT it did taste soooo delicious! Gyoza tasted like some good ole gyoza. Red Dragon roll was good we'd order that again. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the other sushi roll we ordered. The customer service was good. Bento Sushi Japanese Restaurant is off Wyoming across from El Patron at the end of a strip mall next door to Wink's Gym. Seating is at indoor tables; there are no booths or outdoor seating. Patrons in wheelchairs will have no issues here. The service was professional and attentive. The sushi was mostly decent; I think the most appropriate descriptor would be "forgettable". I had a Philly Roll, the Yellow Tiger Roll (yellowtail, avocado, and cucumber wrapped inside with crab stuck with masago on top) for $15.25, and two-piece unagi (listed as eel on the menu). The unagi pieces were the smallest I've had before. I'm not sure if they were the end of the eel or if the pieces are always so miniature at Bento Sushi. The Philly and Yellow Tiger Rolls weren't particularly memorable. They weren't bad, but weren't anything I'd crave. The presentation looked good, but the taste wasn't there. read more

Twice now, we have ordered sushi during the pandemic. The first time, the rice was completely overcooked and mushy in the nigiri sushi. The second time, the rice was very bland and really took away from the taste of the sushi. I'm not sure that they season the sushi rice appropriately, if at all. read more

Orange Chicken was lightly breaded and the sauce was excellent! I learned I can substitute the California roll in the lunch Bento box for something else. Also ordered Jasmine tea, served hot and a second pot was delivered 1/2 way thru the meal for nothing extra. For the meal received, the price of $15 was very reasonable! Great Service. Ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box, it came with miso soup, which was pretty good. Salad dressing and salad were good. It went south for me when there was like an eel sauce or teriyaki on the California roll. Then the chicken teriyaki was made with chicken breast instead of thighs, which are always more juicy. In fact, the chicken was dried out, but the white rice was good that I had to order on the side. I will not be going back to this place. read more

A friend suggested this newish spot and I'm so glad she did. It's a cozy space and our server was great. The crab rangoons were really good. We got the bento box. I got teriyaki shrimp and my daughter got the teriyaki salmon. Both were delicious. The miso and egg drop soups were so tasty. I got a quart of egg drop to go and it was only $5.99. What a bargain. So the place is very small but clean, very clean. Staff is friendly and the place is tucked away but OMG amazing. I've been to other local places in town and here the fish tasted so fresh. My wife just stopped here out of the blue she was wishing for sweet sour chicken and it was great. I think the egg drop soup is the bomb!! I would eat a huge bowl. Today I craved eel. I was brought to Bento Sushi on the far northside of town, off Wyoming near Paseo del Norte, in a vast shopping center. There was another table of customers, but otherwise I had my pick of tables. There weren't many to choose from; it's a small outfit. I ordered a glass of water, overcoming the temptations posed by the sake menu. To eat: egg drop soup, miso soup, jalapeño bombs, tuna tower, and an unagi rice bowl. The soups were fine. Also, the jalapeño bombs were fine, too. The kitchen did me a good'n and made the bombs shellfish-free by ditching the imitation crab (word on the street is imitation crab can sometimes contain real crab meat. Better safe than dying of anaphylactic shock on the floor of a Japanese restaurant). They also removed the crab from the tuna tower, which lived up to its name, heightwise. Sadly, the tower was drenched in thick sauces which stifled the flavor of the fish. And, of course, the unagi rice bowl. Yes, more rice. I beelined for the eel and chopsticked it down my gullet. Good! Yums for sure. The soft texture stood at odds with my expectations, though no compromise of flavor took place. After consuming my fill, I obtained a small to-go box and brought the rest, well, home. Tonight's visit introduced me to a competent Japanese restaurant, and I'm excited to return someday and try the sushi. I hear they're getting some bluefin tuna, but that's hush hush for now. read more

I do agree with some of the other reviews about the soups. So flavorful & probably the best miso soup I've ever had. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu. What happened? I used to love this place but it's awful now. I just popped into to get my usual shrimp tempura roll. It was terrible! Plus they don't serve miso soup anymore with your order. The sushi tasted way off. Not delicious like it use to be. The waitress brought the check and asked how it was. I told it was the worst sushi I've ever had. She quietly set the check down and walked away. Didn't even ask me how they could fix this situation. I put my credit card down and took and ran it. She brought it back to me to sign. Nothing about how to remedy the situation at all. Really? I never complain but no response is not acceptable. I'm NOT going back again. You lost a good customer Bento. 100% my favorite Sushi restaurant ever and I'm from Seattle. The sushi is fresh and delicious. I really love the crunchy roll and have had many others that are delicious. The chicken teriyaki is solid and the whole family loves the egg drop soup. Local. Amazing service. The ambiance is small and intimate but not fancy. Best sushi in town. I am ordering sushi in every restaurant I can find in ABQ/Bernalillo/Rio Rancho I ordered salmon sushi-nigiri from Bento Sushi. I was pretty disappointed. It was completely bland/flavorless. Good salmon nigiri should taste and feel like butter in your mouth and should have a wonderful subtle flavor but this nigiri had No Flavor at All! I couldn't even finish it - I have never left sushi uneaten. I give them two stars because everyone working there wore their masks even while making and handling the food. I really appreciated and felt safe there. I'm sad to say I won't be going back. read more
