Lunch special- California roll, 3 salmon sushi and 2 tuna sushi.

The restaurant wasn't too busy when we stopped in a little after lunch hours. There isn't too much seating inside. We got the lunch specials and they were definitely worth our money. The sushi was great and the bento boxes were plenty of food!

Came here cuz we were craving Japanese food. Lol. The place is a little small, but there was a steady stream of people coming in to eat. Sadly, the bento boxes seemed to be a mix of Chinese and Japanese good. Hahaha. I was a taken aback by seeing they had orange chicken as a choice for a bento box as that is not a Japanese dish! Hubs and I ordered the lunch bento (salmon teriyaki for him and chicken teriyaki for me). Son and DIL shared a sashimi plate. Surprisingly the sashimi tasted fresh! That was a big surprise. The bento came with a choice of egg drop or miso soup. Sashimi platter 5/5: The fish tasted fresh and not frozen! For the price of good sashimi you can't beat it. It was a little thin but it was awesome fish! Chicken teriyaki bento 3/5: The chicken was dry and I would rather have some real veggies instead of a couple of deep fried california pieces (2). I thought they were mushrooms at first! The california rolls were okay. Salmon teriyaki bento 3/5: The salmon was decent sized chunks. It was more tender than the chicken that's for sure. The service was nice. They were accommodating letting us choose whichever table we wanted. Overall a solid place to get sashimi in ABQ but I wouldn't come and expect authentic bento boxes. If you're okay with orange chicken or sweet and sour bento boxes then you'll be fine! It would actually be a 3.5. The sashimi bumps it up. Maybe if they advertised it as a japanese chinese restaurant I wouldn't have been so shocked by the chinese dishes!

The food here is amazing, very fresh! All the flavors are very tasty. The service is very good. They are very helpful with the menu. The place is very small inside maybe six or eight tables. The restaurant is very clean. This is a must try!

Tried this place for the first time... as we were trying to pick up lunch close to the area we were in. I love sushi and a good bento box, so was excited.... When we got inside it was nice and well lit. Cute decor and the waiters and workers were all friendly. I ordered a sesame chicken bento box and my husband got the orange chicken bento box. We also ordered a sushi roll to share. The chicken in the bento box was good. The sauces were both good and had excellent flavor... it was a little pricy for the amount of food... but it was good. The sushi came out room temperature which was a bit off putting to me, as I do not like fried or hot rolls I like them cold.... Other than that the sushi was ok.

A nice little place with humongous taste! This place is absolutely fantastic! The food is rich with flavor, I had the bento box with the jalapeño chicken and the chefs choice sushi roll. My wife had the orange chicken bento box. The presentation on the plate was phenomenal and the staff was very friendly. Great, quality Asian cuisine!

Stopped by after an adventure with my son. He wanted Asian so I Yelped and this was on the way. Small strip mall style restaurant filled with locals so that is always a good sign. Decent sushi list but seems to be a bento box place as that is what every table had several of literally. The place was packed so we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seater. Service was attentive and efficient. My water glass stayed full most of the time. They were busy. This seems to be a local family owned and operated business and they did a great job. I don't remember the two rolls but they were good and my son's Shrimp fried rice must have been great as it all disappeared rather quickly.

The food looks amazing. It didn't taste as good as their reviews suggest, but I'm glad we gave it a try! It's pretty small inside they had about 8-10 tables available in the whole restaurant. I'm guessing most of their services are take-out or delivery. I'm a big soda person, I definitely love a big Coca Cola when I eat out. I didn't like that the sodas here come from a 12pack and they pour a can of soda inside a glass for you. I can just taste the difference since it wasn't a fountain drink. I'm crazy about my Coke! What can I say! I got the orange chicken plate. The way the chicken was fried was how I like it but the orange chicken sauce was their own version of orange chicken so you might like it. It isn't something I'd order again but I recommend you try it for yourself! The jalapeño chicken plate was rated 6/10 for us because it could have had a lot more flavor. The salad was so tiny when it came to our table I was laughing at my date. We were making jokes, BUT it did taste soooo delicious! Gyoza tasted like some good ole gyoza. Red Dragon roll was good we'd order that again. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the other sushi roll we ordered. The customer service was good. The bathrooms were clean too incase you were wondering.

Bento Sushi Japanese Restaurant is off Wyoming across from El Patron at the end of a strip mall next door to Wink's Gym. Seating is at indoor tables; there are no booths or outdoor seating. Patrons in wheelchairs will have no issues here. The service was professional and attentive. The sushi was mostly decent; I think the most appropriate descriptor would be "forgettable". I had a Philly Roll, the Yellow Tiger Roll (yellowtail, avocado, and cucumber wrapped inside with crab stuck with masago on top) for $15.25, and two-piece unagi (listed as eel on the menu). The unagi pieces were the smallest I've had before. I'm not sure if they were the end of the eel or if the pieces are always so miniature at Bento Sushi. The Philly and Yellow Tiger Rolls weren't particularly memorable. They weren't bad, but weren't anything I'd crave. The presentation looked good, but the taste wasn't there.

My new go-to sushi spot! My old place increased prices and decreased quality, so I was looking for a new place and decided to try based on Google reviews, I'm so glad I did! I've eaten here a handful of times now and each time has been great. I always get the California Fantastic roll and the Santa Fe roll, both are delicious! I also love their egg drop soup! Service is always great, and I love how clean it is. Highly recommend!

    Orange Chickem Bento Box, Lunch

Ordered Bento Box with Orange Chicken. best Bento I've ever had! All the usual items plus some not listed on the menu. Generous portion. Orange Chicken was lightly breaded and the sauce was excellent! I learned I can substitute the California roll in the lunch Bento box for something else. Also ordered Jasmine tea, served hot and a second pot was delivered 1/2 way thru the meal for nothing extra. For the meal received, the price of $15 was very reasonable! Great Service. Small and intimate restaurant. I will be going back to try the sushi menu!

Miso and egg drop soup. So good.

It is not the biggest restaurant, and is popular, so I would recommend being prepared to wait during "popular busy time" but it is so worth the wait. So I also recommend waiting. The staff is always pretty friendly and accommodating. I shared an app, a roll and an order of salmon sashimi with a friend on both visits. The food is always fresh, and delicious! I never feel like I am being overcharged for what I get either. Going to eat for sushi can feel like that sometimes. The quality of the food is great and everything is always aesthetically pleasing as well. I had their avocado bomb on my last visit and I was delightfully surprised with it. I like avocado in most cases, but sometimes, it can be a lot at one. I thought this was going to be like that when I saw it, but I was wrong. I look forward to getting one of these on my next visit! On my last visit my friend and I saved room for a dessert, one that we saw rotating on their screens that they have in the restaurant showcasing some of the menu items. It was a take on a bananas foster. It looked delicious but alas, we'll see if we can manage to get it next time. Note to self, have dessert first on next visit?

The final price (paying with cash) was $102.32 before the tip, which seems very fair given the size of the portions and the quality. The fish was not the very highest quality, but it was very good. The wasabi was some of (if not) the best that I've ever had. The soy and eel sauces were made in-house, and were excellent. Presumably, the rest of the sauces were house-made as well. Leo was a very good and friendly server. The atmosphere was very relaxed but could be suitable for something fancier. The nigir were okay, but I prefer my nigiri to not have a lot sauce and all three I ordered were heavily covcered in their cloying (oyster based?) sauce. The Monkey Balls were meh, I've had way better here. The Seaweed Salad was excellent which I think was true last time. That's why Sakura Sushi & Grill stood out right away. They clearly label gluten-free options on the menu. They also offer gluten-free soy sauce, which is a huge win. Even better, they have lunch specials with gluten-free options, which is rare. It's located in Riverside Plaza in Albuquerque, just past the river on the west side. I ordered the Sushi Lunch A with premium fish and chose the double salmon roll. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious, and the portions were great for the price. The miso soup that comes with lunch isn't gluten-free, but they brought me a side salad with an amazing gluten-free dressing instead. I felt confident eating here, which is not something I say often. I didn't have any reaction afterward and would absolutely eat here again. One of the coolest surprises: they make their own wasabi in-house. It's not on the menu, but if you ask, they'll bring it out, and it is absolutely worth it. We considered getting a sushi boat, but the lunch specials were a better value for lunch. If we went for dinner, we would absolutely order a boat. I also had hot sake, which paired perfectly with the meal. At the end, they even brought us a sweet cinnamon tea for my friend's birthday, even though we didn't order dessert. Service was warm and attentive the entire time. My friend has a shellfish allergy, and the server made sure her plate only included fin fish, which we really appreciated. We went around 1:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, and it was quiet with only a few other tables. The atmosphere felt calm and relaxed, with a casual, comfortable vibe that made it easy to sit and actually enjoy a conversation without feeling rushed. They close at 3 and reopen for dinner, so it's a great low-key lunch spot if you time it right. My friend also mentioned she brings her young kids here often, and the woman manager or owner is especially kind and welcoming to them. I enjoyed this place so much that I called my husband on the way home to tell him all about it. We're already planning to go back with our kids, which will make this my second visit in one week. If you're gluten-free, this place is a gem. And even if you're not, the quality, service, and overall experience make it absolutely worth a visit.
