Delicious ramen. Great portions too. My husband had the teriyaki chicken ramen and I had the kimchi and seafood ramen. The shrimp was slightly under but not enough to deter eating and it finished cooking to perfection by the time I had less than a quarter of the soup. The calamari in my ramen was tender and the noodles weren't mushy. The kimchi was just enough to lend spice and acidity but not to overpower the other elements of my bowl. Located a short walk from Camden Town station, I happened upon Bento Ramen after one of London Zoo's late night events They have a comprehensive Japanese menu but I was after their ramen, as proudly advertised on their restaurant name. For me, it has to be tonkotsu ramen where pork bones have been boiled over many hours to achieve the cloudy fatty flavoursome broth The tonkotsu ramen did have a satisfying depth to the broth. The pork chashu and egg were good too though the overall bowl isn't as good as specialist ramen places like Bone Daddies I paired the ramen with spicy sakekawa roll - a maki roll containing salmon skin, sesame and spicy mayo. A great reprieve from the madness of Camden town. Huge fan of their lunch specials...soup, steamed rice, gyoza, a delicious deep fried pumpkin fritter, and a main (think teriyaki chicken or a bowl of pho) all for less than 6 pounds. Quality is high. Note, the teriyaki chicken is deep fried and is more like a kapungi chicken than a traditional grilled Japanese teriyaki chicken. Last year I spent some time in Tokyo. There is a lot to see in Tokyo, with lots of temples, amazing architecture, markets and shopping centres. However it's fair to say the majority of my time was spent in the tiny ramen shops under the railway bridges, and the chain shops selling huge bowls of ramen at cheap prices. I had it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And it just doesn't seem to exist in England... Apart from maybe here. The set lunches are the best deals with a selection of ramen, rice dishes or hot pots that come with miso soup, a pumpkin korroke and 2 gyoza, for under £7. Sushi sets are only around a pound more. The ramen are huge with rich, delicious broths, a really good selection of toppings and proper chewy, yellow, ramen noodles. It's not perfect, but it's very very close. I've been here twice and think I'm going to come a lot more. When I've tried the sushi and had an evening meal here, it might just become 5 stars. read more

What a lucky find in Camden! Ok it wasn't my find at all- as I had a friend living in London recommending it to me, after lusting after some sushi all day. Overall we had to 2 hours to kill before our late evening train back up to Manchester, and with it only being a sone´s throw away from the station it was a perfect final stop of our day. The restaurant itself is spotlessly clean, full of members of the asian community and the menu small- for me the first things I check in asian restaurants. Bento Ramen claims to be slightly Japanese but the selection is rather on the Pan-Asian-Fusion side. Although praised for its Ramen, we decided to order various cold dishes after a super hot day out. Between us we order fried baby squid, the chef´s dumpling selection, baby calamari, sashimi salad, hot summer rolls, prawn skewers and rice as a side. All dishes arrived after just a short wait, all freshly prepared and more or less at the same time- perfect for sharing. The fried items, had different batters and were fried in fresh oils. No greasy stinky crust. The summer rolls ( salmon roll, topped with scallops and caviar) were excellent and we actually just ordered them after seeing the lovely picture of a fellow yelper. The service on the night was very attentive and friendly, which often is an issue at asian restaurants, and also the reason I´m not setting in RED CHILLI any time soon. All dishes were cleared straight away, with a smile and double checks if we liked everything. Yes I liked everything here and would definitely return. Overall we paid just about 55 pound including drinks ( beer/ water/ coke), wich I find really good value for money given the freshness of the dishes and the location. read more

3.5 Okay, so when you have "ramen" in your restaurant name, you better be serving up some damn good ramen. We didn't get to try the bento yet, but the ramen we had was the Tonkotsu ramen and the honey roasted pork with dumplings ramen. Also ordered the dim sum sampler. Tonkotsu broth was bland. It's a bit sad (and funny) that the menu claimed the broth was boiled for 8+ hours because upon tasting the broth as a die-hard ramen fan, it definitely was one of those instant packs you get at the Japanese supermarket. Bone Daddies and Shoryu Ramen in SoHo kicks Bento Ramen's butt. The broth for honey roasted pork with dumplings ramen was even more basic - chicken broth with a heap of thinly sliced spring onion. Again, lazy broth. However, the dumplings in the ramen essentially saved it. The shrimp and pork filling in the dumpling was flavoured brilliantly with sesame oil, white wine, salt and pepper. This makes for a truly juicy bite. The dim sum sampler was also a shining star of our meal. All the dumplings were done very well - each bite locked in the right amount of "juice" from the filling and it just had this pleasant after taste after each one. I could eat those all day. I definitely will come back for the dumplings and dim sum. Perhaps the bento and sushi will take this restaurant to a higher rating in my book. Stay tuned! Oh, and pass on the ramen. read more

This place is mediocre, very asian fusion oriented, the prices are fair but not the cheapest. Sashimi slices are alright, fresh, but not the thickest slice either (i'm such a complaint) Sashimi rice bowel was delicious though, also, their rolls are great orders. The raw scallop I ordered to share with my friend was quite delicious, although I did get a minor stomach ache the next morning, don't know if it was the scallops to blame. Went to this place during lunch and asked for the teriyaki chicken deal. The Miso Soup wasn't that great. The Frued Gyoza and the Potato thing (at least i think it was potato) were really good. The rice was good but the chicken was just perfection, It was crispy and the teriyaki sauce was so good. Just writing this review im getting hungry. OOOH and the Jasmin Flower tea. I was amazed how the was. I never seen tea with a flower blooming inside the hot water. And it was like the BEST jasmin Tea I had. A great Japanese spot right around the corner from Camden Town station. The outside facade makes this place look rather cheap and small. Once you head inside it is actually quite spacious. We tried the tonkotsu ramen, gyoza, California rolls, and chicken katsu curry. Shoryu's ramen is much better, but this place is pretty decent if you are in the area. We did not try any of the sushi besides the California rolls but everyone else's sushi plates looked really good. We will have to come back next time! Good prices and good food. read more

Have not been here for a while, but the food is good and fills the gap. Although it is called Bento Ramen, it is fusion, serving other oriental delights like dim sum, marmite squid and kimchi, and the waiters are a mix of Chinese and non-Chinese. This evening we had the mixed dim sum platter, which was much better than I expected, as it is quite hard to get it steamed right, but tasted fresh and tasty. The BBQ beef and Katsu Chicken, and the eel don, were also good and adequate. When the bill came, was surprised to find a 10% gratuity was added. As proper Japanese restaurants do not take tips. Also thought in general at non-Japanese restaurants, this was only added for larger parties of eight or more, we were only two people! I do not think this should be mandatory. If the waiter is guaranteed a gratuity would he or she have an incentive to try as hard to give good service? I tend to tip better if the service was good, i.e. not just doing their job. And I rather give it to the waiter concerned then go direct to the employer which I expect it does as it is included in the bill. read more

And if you're looking for a lot of food at a decent price then you will like it here. For me this place isn't the best fit, but I can't fault it in general for what they do. It's 'Asian' food designed to appeal to the Camden crowd and they do it well. Oh, about the ramen... Noodles over-cooked, broth nothing special. 'Tokyo egg' was cooked properly but wasn't marinated. No scallions or nori either- just the silly neon pink rice cakes that are true to ramen tradition but horrible IMO. For a better bowl try Bone Daddies or Shoryu in Soho... or watch for a rumoured opening of an Ippudo London branch this summer. read more

Dropped by one week ago during lunch time with my boyfriend. We ordered two bento,spicy beef and curry chicken. They were very delicious, simple and good taste. Love the well cooked rice with seasame topping. It's the first time I ate bento since I moved to London. The food reminds me the asian taste I used to have in Hong Kong. We also orderd the sasimi salad, it's good but the pomelo source were bit strong and weird. I would highly recommend the lunchtime set special menus. I really enjoy the salmon teriyaki set that comes with miso soup, rice, gyoza and a little pumpkin croquette. The dim sum is also good, great sushi and great sashimi. So many places do this so wrong and for double the price, but you're get some quality for money here! We've been to Bento Ramen about six times over the past couple of months. This place is great! The ramen bowls are generous and a good value at £6.50-£8. The tonkotsu is not the best I've ever had--the pork broth isn't quite as rich as it should be--but it's still pretty OK. The slices of pork are really tender, and the ramen noodles themselves are always very fresh and firm. I've tried five different versions of the ramen, and I think my favourite is the seafood wonton with roasted pork. Nice combo of flavours in a chicken broth. The chili pork dumpling ramen was extremely spicy--and I can take a lot of spice, so consider that fair warning. There is also a starter/side dish called Marmite Squid, which we had to try, just on account of curiosity about what that could possibly be. It's battered fried squid tossed lightly with a sweetened marmite sauce. We were prepared to either love it or hate it, but it actually works really well, with the combination of salty and sweet. Pretty addictive, actually. They've recently started offering some sushi items from the Bento Sushi menu (the apparently sister restaurant on the next block). Since they opened we've noticed them getting progressively more busy, so word is getting out. The staff are really nice, and the manager, in particular, is very welcoming and friendly. The room is pleasantly decorated and we really enjoy coming here for lunch, especially on a chilly day. They offer take-away too, though I wouldn't think of ramen being an ideal take-away item. read more

A lovely Sunday afternoon, toward the end of the day, Took a stroll up Camden Town's Parkway Thought I'd visit my neighborhood Bento Ramen Friend visiting from the US, she was hungry and had Benjamins to spend. Friend was craving Japanese so I peeped Yelp. Cause between me and you, I needed the help. I love Japanese, but I'm normally not so inclined And Asa Kusa was closed, so something else we needed to find... Service was inattentive, waitstaff rude. Our server was nice, but don't know what was up with these other dudes. What could it possibly be, me? Is my voice too loud? Was I headsnapping, fingerpopping in polite company? No one else seemed to be the recipient of their foul moods. Ignored their sniffy attitudes, and tried to enjoy the food. And I would have done so, except. It was so bad, I could have wept. Into my miso, soft shell crab and broccoli and garlic main, It was covered in a white gravy, great it was not, no culinary Citizen Kane. I don't know what my friend had. But I didn't want any, the meal was less Thriller and more Michael Jackson Bad. If I'm being honest, I am not a fan of raw salmon. She kept giving me a side eye, so I know she was too polite to mention. Dear Yelper I would give Benny Ramen one star. But I'm keen not to be mean, so two will do by far. Would not return. AVOID! SAVE YOUR MONEY FOR ELSEWHERE! Here, we introduce the worst ramen I have ever tasted in my 23 years of life, followed by the POOREST customer service I've ever experienced! I would give it 0 stars if I could. After being seated, the waitress poured our waters and accidentally spilled water on my phone. Not a lot but not a little either. She showed no apology. Instead, waiter hovering over her picked up my phone, looked at it, handed the wet phone back to me and said, "oh it's okay, it's waterproof". They both laughed off and went on their way. Ummmmmm... no sweetie... I actually JUST got my phone repaired for £320 this week because it DIED FROM WATER DAMAGE, but okay nbd. But whatever, I brushed it off, hoping the food would at least be worth it. However, I felt skeptical and humored when reading the menu since it was trying to disguise other Asian dishes, such as dim sum (Chinese) or mi xao gion (Viet), as Japanese. They actually called mi xao gion a "crispy ramen". Hahaha. That's not a good sign. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and the Tuna Tataki, two dishes that I typically love. My friends ordered the Sashimi Salad, and the Unagi Don. My tonkotsu ramen was SOOOOO disappointing. The seaweed tasted old and stale. The soup was completely bland and had an underlying taste of sink water. It also had a whole bunch of sesame seeds just floating around in it. It just seemed like a cheap trick to add more flavor. The actual tonkotsu part truly angered me the most. The meat was extremely tough, dry, chewy and over salted, which is the COMPLETE opposite of what that meat is supposed be. I don't understand how they could mess that part up so badly. The only thing that was OK were the noodles. The tuna tataki. Man, I was depending on that one since the ramen was so bad, and I was keeping my mouth shut to avoid complaining to my friends. Haha, but they served me spoiled fish. When the dish arrived at the table, I noticed the coloring was duller and a bit darker than the ones I normally eat. It was also drenched in a thick unknown sauce, which is a sketchy technique that I have only witnessed at cheap AYCE or buffet sushi restaurants in order to hide potentially bad fish. Usually, tuna tataki is served with a simple pool of light ponzu on the plate. I tried it anyways. It was sour and close to inedible. My stomach started to feel uneasy from a single taste. Astonished, I asked my friends if they could also inspect it and check if what I was feeling was correct. My friend next to me verified that the fish smelled 'off', and we informed our waiter. They reluctantly took back the plate, BUT in a matter of 5 minutes, someone who appeared to be the manager came by our table to tell us that he tried it and that the fish wasn't spoiled. He said that the weird taste and smell could be the garlic and sauce??? What????? (Ok guys, What did I tell you about that sauce technique that cheap sushi restaurants use?? And of course, nothing is their fault. What can you expect from the same establishment that just spilled water on my phone and told me that it's ok?) We stared at him in disbelief and reminded him that we have already smelled and tried it. We did not want it back and asked if he could just take it off the bill. Side note: Also, I just realized. There was a heat wave today, and I made the most amateur mistake of ordering sushi on a hot day. The odds of receiving bad fish were already higher, and here they were, trying to argue that the fish was fresh when it clearly wasn't. I was able to try the Unagi Don, and I could tell you that even there, the marinade was strange and non-traditional, not in a good way. My friend also did not enjoy his dish. This is where the drama gets real. When it was time for us to pay for our food, we asked for the discretionary service charge to be removed because we were unhappy with the service that was provided. Our waitress begins to throw a fit and started yelling that the fee was MANDATORY and by law. Since when? She said it was mandatory because we were simply being served. I guess regardless of how absolute trash the service was? My friends knew that it was optional by law and argued their point. As we were leaving, our waitress was standing by the entrance, yelling "BYEEEEEEEEE! NEVER WANNA SEE YOU AGAIN. BYYYEEEEEE. NEXT TIME YOU WANNA GO OUT TO EAT, GO TO THE SUPERMARKET WHERE THERE ISN'T A SERVICE CHARGE!!! NEVER COME HERE AGAIN~~" repeatedly until we fully exited. Oh, trust me little lady. I definitely won't be back because I'd be eating at a better and actually authentic Japanese restaurant. Pretty poor food - you can definitely do better in Camden. Service was a bit weird - they brought my partners order and another tables order but not mine at the same time. Ingredients are not of high quality. For a place that calls itself ramen in the name the broth waste really poor. The place has a very very large menus with dishes from all only Asia including Chinese and some Korean dishes. Seems to me they might be trying to do too many dishes and none of them very well. Food here is reasonably priced and at good portions, always a huge plus. I'm originally from NY and ever since moving to London I've been looking for good complex sushi (not like the wasabi style piece of boring sashimi on a plain bed of rice) at a good price and have struggled to find a good place. So coming across Bento Ramen serving some really interesting sushi was a pleasant find. My boyfriend has never had sushi so tasty. Please note that obviously when I say tasty, its not necessarily comparing with the best sushi places like Nobu etc where you pay and arm and an leg for FRESH sushi. Im talking about interesting combinations of salmon, tempura, roe, spicy mayo, etc. Tasty sushi that wont make you broke exists at Bento Ramen! Separately, we've also tried their ramen, I had the "super spicy chicken tonkatsu" which in my opinion is not really that spicy, but to a westerner's taste it can probably be considered super spicy. My boyfriend ahd the original pork tonkatsu and he thought his was ok but lacking some flavour in the broth. He ended up mixing some of my spicy broth to liven up his ramen. Overall I would still say the ramens are pretty good for the price you are paying. It satisfied my craving regardless of being an average bowl of ramen. This is obviously not a Michelin star restaurant so dont come in expecting it to be that way. Lets be honest, the vibe here is very casual and its not a place to be seen, nor does it try to be anything different. Me and my friend usually go to the Bento Cafe, I thought this was where we were going this time but we ended up here instead. We ordered SO MUCH FOOD! And it was SO CHEAP! Spicy Ramen broth had little taste, but it was a good amount of spiciness. The pork was not that high quality and the noodles were not fresh or very tasty either. Bento Ramen. Let me count the ways that I love thee. The waving cats wave hello, and they stoically wave goodbye to me when I have a smile and a full tummy. Whether it be a brief visit at lunchtime or a more relaxed evening meal, I have always had a good meal here, and some of the time it has been truly excellent. Although not the best decorated nor the best vibe possessed in a restaurant in London, what it does give is reasonable, Japanese style food for a price that does not leave you wincing. They do some great set menus at lunchtime that can either be sushi, ramen or terriyaki based. All of these come with a side dumpling and the miso soup. Rather confusingly, even if you order a Ramen soup, they still give you an additional miso soup. Many times I've left here of a lunchtime sloshing down the street like a skin covered the bag of soup. Generally, when I come here during the evening, I go for the sushi that they offer. It is not groundbreaking in terms of the fish that they offer, nor the way that they present it. I am a big fan of the Sumo Platter. For £32 you get 24 sushi rolls and 12 sashimi slices. And even though it is not revolutionary, what they do, they do well and further a fairly reasonable price. I have definitely paid twice that for dodgy London sushi and have felt ripped off in the past. The highlight of my last visit was my excellent waiter. He really did make a fuss of us and I must say it was the best service I have ever received here, and quite possibly one of the best servers I have encountered in London. All in all, I really do have great food here, serve the reasonable price. As long as they carry on doing this. I will keep on returning for ever and ever! read more

Cheap and tasty! Good for something filling and healthy before a night out in Camden! The staff are incredibly efficient - I've never waited for much more than 10 minutes for my ramen, and they really just leave you to it - no unnecessary disturbances during your meal. The selection is good, and whatever I have there I'm always satisfied with it - and the ramen bowls are huge! Usually costs us about £11-12 a head with a bowl of ramen and a beer apiece, which is why we keep going back! read more

Nom nom nom and yay for Chinese ramen!! As Jessie mentioned, the staff are Chinese and sweet, and there is a pretty huge choice of ramen, dim sum and sushi rolls. When we wake up early enough, my boyfriend and I walk past here on the way to work, so we have been meaning to try it for a while. We tried the 'chef's selection' of dumplings and then the karashi beef tonkotsu and the buta kakuni miso ramen. The dumplings were pretty good (and a total bargain, 8 for £8), and the ramen wasn't bad. - Noodles - not bad, but maybe not quite al dente enough - Egg - this was a total let down. It was hard boiled, so not soft/gooey, and not seasoned, so didn't taste of much. - Soup - The miso soup was good while I ate the noodles, but not amazing enough to keep drinking it once the noodles were finished. Marc's spicy tonkotsu soup was better, just not as good as shoryu or bone daddies. - The buta kakuni on top of my ramen made the whole thing better...it fell apart between my chopsticks and was yummy. I know the quality here isn't great. I'm not fooling myself (or you). I go here only because they have a spicy vegetarian (vegan option) ramen. The noodles are from a packet. The flavour is always better than I expect it to be (low expectations, remember?). Packed with veggies. I always have a happy full tummy. We happened to be in the area when my ramen-loving friends wanted to go. With trepidation I took them, and they were pleased with their tonkotsu ramen. Pheww. I don't see much point to getting anything else off the menu as it is really overpriced for things out of a freezer pack. Interesting place. Mix of japanese and chinese. Service good. Sashimi was supermarket grade for japan, or standard for USA. The american style rolls were interesting, one had grilled salmon skin in it which i had never seen before. Spicy tuna roll had cooked tuna rather than raw. Service was great. I'm not sure if it was a language barrier or what, but he was not what you would call "helpful." My husband really enjoyed his teriyaki and my sushi was fresh, delectable, and filling. Just OK. Miso Ramen is really good overall, but the pork slices are really fatty (of low quality). The Xiao Lin Bao (Shanghai dumplings) have good flavor but the pork filling was more like burger texture. The sesame spinach was good but the tofu squares with sauce appetizer was just OK. The atmosphere was more like something from touristy China town. The service though was really good. The food is very reasonably priced. Worth a trip if you're in the area. I just keep coming back to this place, even though there are plenty of options nearby that I haven't tried. You can get a tasty and cheap meal here, though I'd recommend going with sushi or other Japanese fare ( which are lovely) rather than the dim sum (which is just ok). read more

Probably my favourite Japanese restaurant in London - a great place to go for lunch or to pop into for a cheap dinner. Their lunch sets are great value and the service is always efficient. Lunch is pretty much always with you in ten minutes. I adore their chicken katsu curry don and was very happy to see they now do this in a lunch set! A truly fantastic Japanese fusion restaurant. The service was polite and friendly and the food came quickly. The sushi was fresh and delicious and the Gyoza were lovely. A really lovely atmosphere too. The saki was good too! The sister restaurant down the street is also lovely and I go there regularly - this is the first time I had been to this one and I shall definitely be returning - more choice as their is ramen and other fusion/Chinese type food as well so something for everyone!
