We went to Wawa on Monday at 7:30 and it wasn't crowded, but I have heard it gets crowded on weekends during dinner, therefore I would recommend going on a non-weekend day or later/earlier than dinner. The waitress was really nice and was checking up on us several times. We ordered: * two pork ramens (miso based), they had 4-5 other types of meats * shrimp tempura * Japanese cheesecake Overall the food was pretty good. The pork in the ramen was super tender, had a little sweetness to it and tasted great! I liked the miso broth but I usually prefer the classic shoyu broth. The noodles weren't too flavorful and I didn't love how they put spinach in the ramen.. but the overall it was different than your classic ramen, which was good. The shrimp tempura was great and you get 6 pieces; it was light and flavorful! The Japanese cheesecake wasn't actually a Japanese cheesecake but rather a shortcake, it was still good and not too sweet. I would go back and try their sushi next time. Wawa is the japanese place to visit when you're in the London Bridge / Tower Bridge area. It's a simple, comfortable and delicious place to visit for either a quick lunch or a full dinner. And has a unique speciality: the ramen burger. DISHES Wawa has a small selection of warm and classic sushi dishes: it doesn't compete on quantity, but quality at a good price. You can find the classic sushi rolls together with some unique ones (like the salmon crunchy salmon or the melting salmon, my favourites) and also warm dishes like the katsu curry. Their specialty is the ramen burger: a crisping angus beef burger with wasabi and mayo... with a "bun" made of ramen. AMBIENT AND SERVICE The place tends to be more full at lunch than dinner, but overall I always found a place to sit without any queue. The place is simple, but well curated. Wooden tables are used all across the room, and you can choose alternatively tables with chairs or long tables with benches, perfect for parties. During the day it has a great natural light, while at night a good soft incandescent light. The service is really good and very kind, which is something that surely adds to the place. So places like Wawa are why I started Yelping. It's a small neighborhood joint that may not get much foot traffic but tries hard to deliver a good meal. In my opinion, it's a great addition to the area and I'd like to see it succeed (in part so it can continue to feed me). Don't let my 3 stars fool you - I'm quite stingy with my stars. Now, back to Wawa - it's actually quite a pretty place particularly if there's sunlight. Other than a few hightops, the seating is on long benches which probably leads to communal dining. I would suggest going with a group. As for the food, I enjoy the cooked food better than the sushi or maki rolls. I'm a little particular about my raw fish and super particular about my rice. Side note about the rice: you have to pay for it as a side when you order something like salmon teriyaki (my favorite menu item here); not cool. In fact, overall the prices are a little high across the board throughout the menu which I try to take in stride for a little independent restaurant like this. I've tried the chicken skewers which were good and the katsu burger which was not as good as I hoped it to be. I'm planning on trying the ramen next... We ordered chicken ramen in miso (they don't have it in chicken or pork broth), prawn tempura and of course, Japanese rice. Serving was just right but I thought their prices were on the high side. It's very over priced for the sushi. It's nothing special for £11+ for a roll (only 6 small pieces). Coming from San Diego, you can get a lot more sushi for this price. I wanted to try sushi in London to see the differences in America and it was not worth it, way too expensive and not the best sushi. Learned my lesson for sure. read more

I like this place, don't get me wrong. What's not to like? It's affordable, delicious and reliable. Except for tonight. My partner and I went, got seated, we looked through the menu, then we waited to be served. A table for 3 sat next to us and immediately got served and had their order taken. We then waited some more, observing two waiters clearing a table behind us, then waited more. Finally, after 15 minutes, we got up to leave. Despite the disappointment, we went down the street to Constancia, and had a lovely meal. Wawa isn't usually that busy most nights and so they can't afford to neglect customers in this fashion. Don't let this deter you though from trying it. It is good and the Ramen burger is interesting. I like their maki rolls, the Wawa salad, and pretty much any of the mains. The person who waited on us at Wawa's was gracious and kind. The sushi rolls were amazing but limited in variety. We told our server about our sick child back in our hotel room. He felt miso broth would be soothing for his gastroenteritis. He gifted us hot miso with rice for our son. (And gifted us the same when I got sick with the virus a day later.) Very delicious, high grade sushi. The prices are quite high but you get the quality you pay for. Came here with a friend and our bill came to about £70 however we did order quite a bit. I ordered various types of maki's and they were scrumptious. Menu has a very wide range so has a good variety of Japanese cuisine. Staff are very friendly and attentive and the service was efficient. Overall I would definitely visit again, only reason I'm not giving it a 5 because of the prices. read more

Who's a sushi fan? This girl! Wawa's an interesting place, a quiet little sushi restaurant in Tower Bridge. It's never very busy when I see it but I think, unjustly so. I ordered the katsu burger. Why? A burger in a Japanese restaurant - I just had to do it. i was a bit dubious when they described it, it's a burger coated in breadcrumbs (did they steal this from the Scottish?) and deepfried. But they explained that this coating keeps the burger extremely moist and it was. With a wasabi mayo and ciabatta bun, it was a really solid burger. My companion's seabass sashimi was beautifully presented and the sushi rolls definitely hit the spot. Wawa has some really friendly and attentive staff, they kept refilling our green tea and didn't try to get us to leave when we were finished. If you're in the area, it's definitely a good choice. read more

My friend and I went here for dinner yesterday and it was good! I had the salmon avocado rolls and she had the pork ramen. We shared edamame and the spinach, which was a bit too sweet for me. I thought the prices were a bit high (the hand rolls were about £10.50, which is very high coming from Los Angeles). The rolls were £8 a piece. I would come back and the service was good. My husband and son were in London on business. It also just happened to be our son's birthday. He picked Wawa as the restaurant to celebrate at. My husband texted my back in the states and said they were having a wonderful sushi dinner. Not being able to be there with them, I called the restaurant on the spur of the moment to tell them about it. They were so incredibly kind and accommodating. A great local shop with a huge variety to choose from. There's not many places around southeast London where you can get such quality sushi for such a reasonable price. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the ambiance is great for a casual meal or a special event. A great restaurant to make part of your regular routine if you're a fan of Japanese food. Another big differentiator for me was the care that they took in the food preparation after telling them about my seafood allergy. I'm often wary of the food preparation/sanitation conditions when eating at any type of Asian cuisine as they use fish and shellfish so heavily in their dishes, but I didn't feel at all worried at WaWa. I can highly recommend the Aubergine/tomato/avocado inside-out maki roll and be sure to try the katsu burger with Ramen nests as buns if you're in the mood for something a bit wacky! read more

Went on a Friday night around 8pm and only two other tables were occupied, so I'm inclined to think this is more of a lunch place than one that attracts large dinner crowds. To be fair we only popped in for a bite of sushi, but once we eyed the menu it was clear that it would be our duty to sample the delicious sounding mains. We opted for salmon maki rolls to share. I ordered a katsu burger, wondering how a fastidious Japanese chef would prepare it, while my "not hungry" companion went for beef ramen. All were delectable. The burger was juicy, tender and flavoursome, which was a weirdly good counterpoint to the fresh and delicate salmon rolls. They have fantastic crockery and friendly attentive service.
