This bagel shop is the best. Fresh bagels made every day and all types of varieties and flavors. It can be busy but it's worth the wait.

My girlfriend and I LOVE Benson's. We go almost every Sunday. Today, despite a raging snow storm, we dug ourselves out of our driveway just to make it to Benson's. That's how much we love it. The cooks and staff are all genuine hard working people. Today when we went in the snowstorm, their oven wasn't working so they couldn't make bagels.... but they've got so much awesome breakfast food on their menu, we didn't even care. They made me a huge omelet and my girl got a toasty bacon egg & cheese on a croissant. Here's two hidden gems of Benson's that only hardcore fans know about: 1. The lemon poppy seed muffins. Delicious local bagel shop. Disappointed they didn't have any pumpkin bagels--as "advertised" on Facebook. They told me they would have them the next day..offered to put some aside for me..gave me their phone number...I mean this place really seems to care about their customers! I had a steak and egg on a plain bagel sandwich. Really good. Brought home a few bagels for next day breakfast. The cheddar cheese and cinnamon raisin were chewy,tasty winners. Seems like they bake these bagels one at a time..talk about making them with "love". Employees are super friendly...its just a nice place. I had a great experience. Customer service was great. Fast. Friendly. And the bagel was good. Not the best bagel I've ever had, but definitely better than DD (I can't believe DD is a comparison for anything because their baked goods are probably some of the worst out there) and Bruegger's. Some of the older complaints no longer apply. They may have made adjustments based on comments. They take credit cards and there is a big clear sign stating "order here" right above the bagel display. read more

I love this place. Food is so good. But seriously...sometimes the counter workers taking your order have no idea what's going on. You can repeat your order, correct them, they will still get it wrong. By the time you get your food, you don't have time to wait around for them to fix it (again). Be sure to check your order before you leave. It's a shame because the food -- if you get what you want -- is SO good!! I wish I could give it 5 stars but they've gotta figure it out. There food is great and they make there bagels fresh. I am just pretty upset with there cleanliness. The guy who cashed me out went back and also touched my food and others food without CHANGING HIS GLOVES. So instead of making a scene because there were other costumers in the store I called &mentioned it, the lady straight up laughted at me. Please stop advising people to go here. The service is janky. The deli meat is subpar. Did not enjoy myself on my last visit. Stopped in because I thought it'd be a good place to go a decently priced breakfast sandwhich. I was wrong. Not only did they charge me $2.50 just to add a couple of slices of bacon on my sandwhich. They also made it wrong the first time on top of that. I will never be returning to this establishment. I have been here multiple times. They have a great selection of bagels, variety of cream cheeses, and lunch wraps. Go for a bacon egg and cheese on a French toast bagel it's AMAZING. The only negative is that it takes forever. Just to get a bagel with cream cheese took 15 min!! But other then that, it's a good casual breakfast and lunch spot. I love these bagels! I barely ever come here purely because of the location and hours but I got the chance to come today and got a sundried tomato bagel with light cream cheese. It was the perfect amount of crunch on the outside and soft chewy (but not too chewy) on the inside. The flavor was great- there were small pieces of sundried tomatoes in the bagel. The young woman at the counter was very friendly and greeted me when I walked in. She asked what I wanted and gave me space when I said I was still deciding. She also clarified whether I wanted low fat cream cheese or a light spread (I wanted both!) I noticed she put on a new pair of gloves each time she handled food and took them off when she was working the register and handling money. The place is clean and the food is fresh. I don't think I've ever even written a review before but this place really deserves 5 stars. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious and high quality. The bagels are fresh and cheap and the sandwiches literally melt in your mouth. This place is a gem and It's my favorite place to get breakfast from on my way to work. Incredibly, my experience mirrors others as I read down on the reviews. Another couple was ahead of me; they also were never greeted. We both had to get the attention of a worker behind the counter. The main culprit was the lady who took payment. She wasn't doing anything but talking to other workers. At least the others were preparing food. She wasn't any help to the couple in front of me, so they just walked out; surely frustrated! I then fought my way for attention and she firmly said she can't help me until the grills had an opening for another order. I then simply asked for a couple of bagels in a paper bag. She reluctantly took care of me, but it certainly was done with a grudge; and of course, there was NO "thank you for your business." 1. A good restaurant acknowledges a customer's appearance, letting them know they will be taking care of them soon. This place does neither! 2. There is no indication on how to order and pay. One morning I was craving an egg sandwich. (not egg mcmuffin) and I stopped in. I was greeted with friendly service, but there was a bit of a wait. The help tends to get behind and seemed a little stressed. They get very busy because it is great food. Fresh made on site bagels. I ordered my sandwich and an order of hash browns. the cook heard my order and suggested I put the hash browns right in my sandwich. I reluctantly tried it and am glad I did. Worst bagel place in Springfield. Go to Dunkin. This is the 3rd attempt to get a bagel. All 3 times they don't have onion or everything or cinnamon raisin, only odd bagels. This is the 2nd time they didn't toast it when I asked. They are rude, when I ask what they have for bagels considering the ones I wanted they didn't have I got a ramble with an attitude. I came here 2 years ago and got a great bagel, I don't know if it's a new cook or new owner or new management but 3 times a charm, I will no longer come here and I'll spare my friends and family from their disappointment. read more

The only time I'm upset with this place is when I'm in a hurry and the line is too long. You can tell the people who work here work hard to differentiate themselves from the two dunken dounuts right next door; their like the anti corporte food place - everything is always fresh and great tasting but the staff is often stressed out seeming trying to keep up with demand. Not a bad thing for a small business like this; it gives the place a great character. I admittedly only get the bagels here but their menu looks great. The bagels are the best I've found in Springfield--made right on site--and there are several cream cheese options, plus breakfast sandwiches and such. I knocked one star off for the weak coffee. But the woman who did all this multitasking also could cut muffins, toast them, talk to people when not waiting on us, and play with babies. Also while not waiting on us. Is there something less then 1 star? 1. called at 10am to see if they were open. Busy signal for 20minutes. 2. called at 1020am, answering machine says we are too busy to speak to you but we are open til 2pm. No ability to speak to a human and pre-order or find out what they have in terms of flavors etc. 3. I show up at 1230pm. 2 bagels left. dark and dank in the shop. a short haired surly blond with glasses says we don't have any bagels other then the 2 pumpernickel. Then a fellow in the back says the 4 of us could have the 2 pumpernickel bagels. I told them I really wanted 3 dozen bagels, seems like 2 bagels with over an hour left til closing doesn't seem worth staying open for. 4. blond woman says for that many bagels we should call ahead. I tell them we did and they don't seem to answer there phone. Then she tells me we have to call a day ahead. Umm, ok, so something between 2 bagels and 3 dozen in stock would still be necessary to run a business right? Are the bagels terribly expensive to stock? some operations sell left over day old bagels at a discount making leftovers still profitable. Perhaps when you see that you are open for more then an hour and are down to just 2 bagels you could drop some more? it takes about 20 minutes to replenish bagels on average. Seems to me paying people for another hour & a half in a bagel store that has no product is pretty bad business. Either they are doing so well financially they can afford to turn away customers OR they are on their way out of business and no longer care to have customers. I suggest they close already rather then have people experience what I experienced. Its a shame that people can build a business and not run it. It really baffles me. I will never be back, I have typed this review and I will certainly tell everyone I interact with not to bother. read more

This is our go to bagel place in town. They have great texture, chewy crust with a soft center. A plain buttered bagel is the litmus test, it should have the right texture and a nice flavor. Plain does not mean bland! Their everything blend is well balanced and when paired with the scallion cream cheese will knock your socks off. They also make fantastic breakfast sandwiches which are made fresh and quick. A guilty pleasure is the hashbrown patties which are fried perfectly and a nice accompaniment to the breakfast sandwiches or just a bagel. However, make sure you head in early as they sell out of bagels fast, so if you want options you're gonna have to get there asap. read more

I am a huge fan! I go to Benson's about 2x a month. The prices are excellent and the breakfast sandwiches are so yummy! The coffee is bottomless too! So I still love their bagels, but don't go when the main woman is at the register, I've seen her rude to customers and when you try to order a cheeseburger for lunch around 1130, which starts at 11 mind you, she'll tell you off, very inappropriate considering numerous employees said that they could make my burger, it was also nice that I waited 20 minutes in line for her to tell me that. If she's not there, there is great customer service but I'm sorry, she needs to go.
