I usually always get a vegan + GF one and you seriously cannot taste the difference. What of the things I love about Benny's is that they top and dress the donut when you order it so you can actually mix & match to customize every time if you want! My favorite is getting marionberry without the rosemary! My only minor complaint is that the flavors are just a tad too sweet for my taste, but it's not too much that I get turned off. Really disappointed in the service. I normally have a good experience here. I went in before they closed (although it was close), there was a couple in line ahead of me. The couple was served, took maybe 4 minutes. The person working the counter turned to me and said, "sorry we are closed". Why didn't the person tell me while I stood in line for several minutes? My kids love the tasty donuts here, but I am concerned about a call from my ex who says she just left there with my 10 year old son virtually in tears. What would make a little boy cry in a donut shop of all places? I'm told my ex saw some tables were taped off to not be used, but she and my son sat at one that wasn't marked. For this, she says the employee was very rude (she said the worker yelled at them) and it became a little incident that caused them to leave. Look, folks, please -- I know we're all rightfully concerned about Covid-19, and are taking precautions. My son and his mom were not trying to break those.. and certainly my little guy doesn't deserve the experience he received. He sat at a table he thought he could sit at, and this got out of hand for no reason. Basically he was being taken for a little lunchtime treat, and ended up being scared and probably won't want to ever go back to Benny's Donuts. We'd like Benny himself to reach out to us, hear the complaint, and if warranted have the young lady apologize to our child so he will feel comfortable coming back. Everyone gets frustrated at times. This place has great donuts. But the employees are young, immature, and poorly trained. Today, I paid for my donut and the employee used a gloved hand to accept my cash, then used the same gloved hand to pick up my donut! When I pointed this out, he changed the glove and picked up the same donut he had touched. WTF??? I felt really offended and skeeved out by this. There's no excuse for improper food handling and it's a blatant shortcoming that speaks to the quality of the food safety training programs for these employees. I got the seasonal strawberry balsamic doughnut and my husband got the cold brew doughnut, and a cold brew coffee to enjoy it with. We thought it was rather strange that they use the same doughnut for each order and painted on the flavor, but what the heck. I took one bite of my doughnut and was done. It was sugar on top of sugar on top of sugar... not at all what I expected (of course doughnuts are sweet, but shouldn't be overkill). My husband's reaction was not better.. the cold brew they use tastes disgusting (almost a totally burnt bitter flavor maybe?) and was not improved by the sweetness of the doughnut. However, their combinations are just pure genius. I've had voodoo, legendary, kneaders, nut cakes, and more, and Benny's is just flat out on a different level. I started enjoying Benny's at the Farmers Market back when, I was super excited to hear of the shop opening!! I dragged my sister and kiddos to the shop to show off the delish donuts that I know they are. Although I LOVE the donuts and the shop is trendy/ hipster but enduringly so I have a few suggestions: Maybe a highchair or two to have on hand for in shop diners with little ones.
