When you walk into Benny's, you are greeted with a sparsely furnished interior, a dark ambiance, and a chalkboard on the wall with the different glazes and toppings. For first time visitor, it can be a bit confusing. Before we even knew what we were supposed to be doing, the sole employee in the establishment asked if we wanted normal or gluten-free donuts, and how many of each. After watching her prepare the order in front of us, we figured out what the process was, and how the donuts were prepared and served. I must say, I was impressed with how efficiently the donut maker / cashier created each individual donut. Once we tried the donuts, it was all good. They were fresh and warm, with an old fashioned, slightly cakey texture. I opted for the "Cascades Cold Brew" glaze with expresso topping, and I absolutely loved it. The donuts themselves are easily worthy of 5 stars, but the ambiance and unclear ordering does leave something to be desired. Still highly recommended. read more

These donuts are always so good and they have gluten free options. I appreciate that they make the donuts quite fresh but when we got there we did have to wait awhile before they finished frying them. All the flavors are delicious and fun to try. This place is amazing! I came during a quiet time so it wasn't crowded but I have been told it can get very busy. You order the donuts and they make them fresh. Then you select your glaze and toppings. I had Canadian Maple and Chai. I added sprinkles to the Chai and chocolate chip to the maple. They were so good! Hot and not greasy at all. They also weren't overly sweet which was nice. I also ordered a hot chocolate and it was the right amount of sweetness too. This is a cute little shop. I usually like this place but this morning was disappointing. I asked for 5 donuts, and the size the server brought out were the size of mini donuts (they were so embarrassingly small that I ordered another 5 more because I couldn't imagine giving something that small to my students). She said that sometimes the frier makes them really small, but never gave me a discount on the size (so each mini donut was 3.25). Then she charged me more for 10 donuts than she did for a dozen (32.50 rather than 25). Doughnuts were ordered Friday for Monday morning pick up. Upon arrival, staff was rude and ignoring customers. I patiently waited to ask about my order and was told it must have been a DoorDash order and they were ignoring those orders until filling other orders. After 15 minutes, I inquired again and was told there was no order. The online order wait time status was changed to another 10 minute wait. 10 minutes later, nothing. I approached the counter and got the staff person's attention to show her the order number. She told me I now had two more costumers in front of me. It was 45 minutes past the original pick up time. I was picking up a large order for a staff meeting I was now late for. I had to wait another 5 minutes to get her attention to cancel the order. So I've been going to Benny's for a couple of years and I will say, I like their donuts. I have however been holding off on reviewing them because as you'll see... there are problems.. So why two stars? -1 star expensive. $25 a dozen is on the high side for donuts. They are on the small side at around $2 a donut. On the positive side, they are made fresh and the toppings are decent. - 1 star they are slow! And I'm not talking about I walk in and order and have to wait... I mean I order online an hour before and still have to spend 15 minutes waiting when I get there, slow. -1 star unfriendly staff. The last three times I've stopped in, the staff have been unfriendly. My visit today, the individual behind the counter was rude and acted annoyed that I'd come in and made him do... his job. I am not a demanding customer and I don't often complain. But when it's not busy, I ordered an hour in advance and had to wait for nearly 15 minutes (more than once) when I did arrive, and then to be treated as though my presence is an inconvenience... well... I may not be too anxious to return. There are lots of places to get pastries and goodies in Corvallis so I'd suggest Benny's improve the customer service end of the business. Disappointing customer service. I placed an order and went it to pick it up however there wasn't a single person in sight, no customers or employees. I said "hello?" twice with no reply. I then called while waiting at the counter, nobody answered the phone. I then said louder "hello, is anyone here". Today I ordered 2 g/f donuts, and requested they be nestled in a small box. They always try to put them in a HUGE box because the frosting is applied on the spot and is gooey and apparently there is some "policy." I do not mind my donuts touching and their frosting getting mixed a bit. EVERY time before today the server was willing to accommodate my wishes. Today I got push back. A lot of push back. The server was NOT going to use a SMALL box because she was SUPPOSED to use a LARGE box. When I said every other time they accommodate my request, she demanded to know when I came in. When did this breach of policy occur? Randomly, I responded, and I suggested it was not a good idea to try to rat out other employees who serve the customer as the customer pleases. I buy donuts some mornings randomly, but have been accommodated with two donuts in a small box EVERY. OTHER. TIME. She kept saying "I have to put them in a big box." This server was acting like she worked for the TSA, and boxing donuts was a matter of national security instead acting like a clerk who was supposed to serve a customer the donuts--as ordered--at the donut shop. I get to choose my flavors, why do I not get to choose the box? What happened to give the customer what they want? My request was not out of line, but her response and push back was so far out of line. I responded in kind and walked out. I've been here twice and enjoyed both times. I love donuts and these are fun. I like that they are simple cake, and a reasonable size. You don't have to settle for what they have left when you arrive, because these are made to order. They have trays of plain cake donuts, and when you say "maple" they dip it in there. There are a lot of flavors, and if you want a combo of your own they will do it. The menu has great choices and maybe someday I'll move beyond maple .... nah, I'll never stop getting maple. I was craving donuts last week and went to Benny's Donuts for the first time. I got chai spice donut and lavender lemon donut and the chai spice donut was really good! The donut was fluffy and soft and the chai spiced frosting went well together! However, lavender lemon frosting was a bit disappointing as they tasted like the frosting has gone bad. I'm not sure if the combination of the lavender and lemon was a bad idea or the frosting was actually not fresh. Was so happy when I found this place. The first time I had their GF donuts they were great. I've been back 2x in the last two weeks and both times the GF donuts have not been good. Very light in color (not like the first time) I believe not cooked in hot enough oil. Bad texture and instead of the glazed adhering to them they never firm up and are just wet and drippy and the donut is soggy. Unfair of me to write this review, since I didn't actually get to purchase any donuts from them - though I went in to their fine establishment fully intending to do so.... I needed to pick up five dozen donuts to give to five different customers. I'm not a price shopper, and I tend to support local businesses that have a reputation for quality products. Benny's seemed to fit that bill from all the positive Yelp reviews. There were two employees when I entered the store at about 8:30 on a Wednesday morning. Two customers were seated, enjoying a few donuts and some artisanal coffee beverages. One customer was standing at the espresso machine, which was manned on the other side by a female employee fiddling with the many dials and knobs. To her right was a young gentleman demonstrating the most painstakingly focussed display of donut decorating concentration imaginable. Working from a small tray of what appeared to be a freshly made dozen cake donuts, he took each donut one-by-one and hand dipped, papered, sprinkled, dabbed, fluffed, and preened to perfection. It was an amazing thing to watch. His dedication to craft was punctuated by his furled brow and his tongue poking from the corner of his mouth. Wow! After three minutes, and three completed donuts, he broke his concentration and looked up - giving me a grunt in the brief split-second of eye contact he could spare. I threw some donut making gang signs at him, and said, "Whattup Man-Bun?" Or rather I just imagined myself doing that, as I was slowly bring lulled into some weird dream state where all thoughts of what an actual profitable donut vending establishment is were somehow being scrambled and rearranged in my skull. Things got weird from here on. I remember the fourth minute welcoming the fourth donut. I looked away and to the right, and in some slow motion misunderstanding of time and space, I thought I saw the coffee lady actually talking to a coffee plant - trying to coax the bush into ripening a small handful of beans so she could harvest, dry, roast, grind, and then brew them into another cup of coffee. I looked back and the fifth minute produced the fifth donut.... After six minutes, the donut fascination part of my brain got shivved by OBSERVATION. The OBSERVATION department pointed out that there were no cases full of donuts on display. No pre-mades, no nothing.... MATH came to the party and interjected its opinion that five dozen donuts at one minute per donut would take one hour to produce - and I hadn't even ordered yet. Before the seventh donut could land on its pillow, the Hypo-mobilus portion of my brain (pretty sure that's what it's called) turned me on my heels and marched me out the door, placing me safely behind the wheel of my Sales Camry so we could go secure five dozen donuts el - hopefully before lunchtime. read more

Interesting concept. Just a simple cake donut that they dunk into the flavored icing. We really enjoyed them - had the vanilla, strawberry, and maple.
