(I read the yelp reviews and one thing was clear - Chuck was to be avoided!) But apparently, I had nothing to worry about, as Chuck was amazing. His no nonsense, you've got this attitude actually kept me from freaking out too much. And even when I freaked out, he was great! I couldn't be happier that I chose Sanctum for my piercings! Getting an appointment was simple, just fill out a form online and the staff will contact you regarding what exactly you want and when you're available. They do have walk-ins, but this can be hard if you're looking for a certain artist or if you're in a time crunch. Your best bet is to call and inquire first before walking in! Leading up to my nostril piercing, I was very anxious. Katey made the process really easy by showing me the different sizes of the piercings and making sure I like the placement of the marker. She also explained the process well. The actual piercing itself was super quick and felt like a pinch. I like that she gave me a paper with aftercare instructions, a card that has the date and size of my piercing, and her Instagram so that if I had any questions, I could reach out to her. The tattoo process with Eva was easy too. My sister and I wanted matching tattoos, so Eva made it easy for us to coordinate so that we'd be able to watch each other get tattooed. She was able to quickly adjust her draft, when my sister suggested a small change to the design. In our original design, the moon was fully filled in, but Eva suggested the peppered shading, which I love! The lines are crisp and straight, and the overall design is clean! After selecting the jewelry, I'm in the room with Elaine and everything was explained to me thoroughly. There was such a joyful warmth in how Elaine spoke that it completely relaxed me. A couple of deep breaths and I was expecting a pain level between 5-6 but believe it or not, it was like maybe a 1-2 and I think part of that is Elaine's experience with placement as well as her technique. I am so happy with the result and that I went through this with Elaine and Nine Moons Piercing.

Original review: I got second ear lobe piercings here on August 2026. On October 2026, two months after the piercing, I woke up with a very bloody ear and pus coming out of that piercing. That ear had swelled up and it was extremely painful to touch. Moreover, the stud was engulfed completely by my skin to where I could not see it anymore. Because it was so painful and bloody, I went to the ER. The ER physician determined that the jewelry had to be removed immediately due to the severity of the complication. When I reached out to Nine Moons to inform them of the medical emergency and complication, their response was dismissive. They downplayed an ER doctor's intervention as an 'easy thing to just put longer jewelry in' and stated they do not offer any resolution, simply telling me to reach out if I am ever in NYC again. This is so disappointing as I thought they held themselves to a higher standard. Given how much pain I was in, I don't think I would have been able to tolerate a longer post being jabbed back into the swollen piercing site. Dismissing medical emergencies and refusing accountability after a painful and traumatizing complication is unacceptable client care. Please beware.

They spent over 30 minutes just measuring the distance of the piercings to make sure it was perfect. To note, I had four other lobe piercings (2 on each ear) from a different tattoo/piercing store but they didn't measure at all while they were making the piercings, so it was great to finally experience that level of professionalism. During the healing process I noticed a spot that was artificially tattooed- I thought it didn't look like it was penetrated into my skin enough as the rest of the tattoo. When I went in for them to fix it initially I already was made to feel like a bother so I figured, maybe it will heal right- they are the ones experienced in this right? I was in town visiting again this weekend so I had asked them for another retouch. I live 2 hours away and this is a 10 second fix. They did not answer my message and then I called them the next day where they finally answered. They could not accommodate to fix my tattoo until Monday. I shared that I leave town Sunday and would love if someone can just try and fix up my tattoo. It clearly is a botched tattoo and this is the second problem I've had with it. First the lines were uneven, and second there is a gap in the line (not to mention that it's crooked). They said they can get me in at 5pm Sunday as they had limited artists and shared how they warned me that a finger tattoo may often need touch ups.
