We've been coming to this location for years. The wait is usually exceptionally long even with reservations. Once sitting they take long to attend you as well. While our service wasn't the best again, our chef was great. My only regret was not getting his name to name drop him on the review. He noticed my son like dinosaurs and he made one with the rice, which was original. He joked with us throughout the entire time and made our visit much more pleasant. Agh, I was really hoping to be able to leave a better review since we really enjoy the hibachi experience. I called to make a reservation about a week in advance for 15 people, got my confirmations the day before, all was well. We showed up for our reservation, and we're shown to two tables. It would have been nice to have known at the time of reservation that our party would be separated. We frequent hibachi near our house and I guess I was just expecting a different set up of tables, in any case still would have been nice to know ahead of time. Overall the experience was fine and our waitress was really sweet however, we had one interaction with a bartender that kind of blew everyone's mind. My husband ordered one of the punch bowls and he had a few decent sips left, a bartender, who must have been scanning the room came to our table and basically ask him to hurry and finish his drink because they needed the punch bowl for someone else... I like to come during lunch because you can get a good a amount food for almost half the price; for lunch you get a choice of a soup or salad. I picked the soup, which was really good. Celebrated a birthday at this location. The wait wasn't bad because we made reservations in terms of being seated. However, we did go to the bar for drinks while we waited lol. My first round was a coconut mojito. The consistency was yummy, but it did not taste like liquor was added. By this time we were seated, I ordered another coconut mojito and it was strong. I had never had a coconut mojito so strong. It was ok, but the liquor overpowered the actual flavor of the coconut mojito. I used to love Benihana's back in the day before they became really popular and commercialized. I like the concept of having hibachi/food made right in front of you and it is fun to watch the chef "perform" his comedic and skilled act in front of you while cooking your dinner. However, I don't really enjoy this place any longer for the following reasons. 1 - The smell is overwhelming almost to the point where sometimes I feel like I have to step away to get a breath of fresh air outside and then come back in. By the time you leave, the smell is all over you including your clothes and in your hair. 2 - Have you ever noticed the amount of butter they use on everything their cooking? They just keep adding it and adding it, although the food does taste good I can't help but think how bad it is for you. 3 - It always seems like it's dirty. It doesn't look like they keep the place up on a daily basis AND they need some upgrading to make this place a little more modern and less dingy. It wasn't my idea to go here obviously but we had a large group going to celebrate someone's birthday and the person organizing this dinner chose this place most likely due to the seating arrangements. They give you a lot of food and I had leftovers but I couldn't even think about eating the next day because the after affects of eating here stay with you for days, and not in a good way. I know many people that love this spot so if you're feeling experimental go ahead and try them out you may love them. This time it ends on Dec 30 which you cannot use on the weekends. I returned on the 28th of Dec. so I cannot use it. They informed me it could not be extended. Their rating is perhaps unrecoverably low. I have been here several times and it has always been great, and certainly no worse than other locations. I love their hibachi selections and they have a good value for their happy hour with food and drink specials. The only criticism I could offer if I had to is that they strategically staff short. What I mean is that if you come, even when they are slow, without a reservation you will have to wait for a table. It is what it is so just make sure you have a reservation. There have been a few times where we have just popped in to try our luck and every time the wait was too long to stay. We haven't even sat down to dinner and I am already wondering if we made a big mistake! We have reservations at 7:30 and was told or table is not ready! Why make a reservation then? When we were finally escorted to our table we learned we were placed at a hibachi communal table. Communal tables are not our style and paying extra for a "show" of someone cooking our food was not something we were willing to do. We were then taken to a smaller private table in the lounge which was adequate. The area was on the warm side so eating dinner was a bit uncomfortable. Even hubby was warm which is rather unusual for him. The food itself was also disappointing. We ordered the 5 course seafood dinner. The salad was good. ginger dressing always makes me happy. The seafood was underwelming. The size of the"jumbo" shrimp only if viewed under a magnifying glass, the baby scallops were also miniscule. Third times the charm! The first time we tried was a Saturday night. We had a gift card and when we called to place our order, we were told that they only take gift cards Monday-Friday. The next time we tried to order was during the week. We kept calling but couldn't get through to anyone so decided to take a drive here. When we arrived, we saw customers and employees standing outside in the parking lot. There were a couple of cars that had pulled in and were being turned away by a manager type person. When we pulled up, he apologized and said that they were closed and didn't know when they could get back inside. My husband and I were off from work today so we decided to try again. When I called to place our order and explain that I had a gift card, I was told that I had to come in to place our order and then pay with our gift card. We crossed our fingers and drove here. We placed our order and paid with our gift card with no problems. We were told that it would be ready in 30-40 minutes and that they would call me when our food was ready. We ran over to Home Depot to kill some time and then came back even though we hadn't received a call. As we were walking in, my phone started ringing... perfect timing! We brought the food home but since we had a 20+ minute drive, some of the food was cold. The 5 course meal comes with salad, soup, 3 pieces of shrimp, vegetables & steamed rice (we upgraded to vegetable fried rice). We were also supposed to get tea (which I assume were tea bags) which wasn't in our package. My husband and I both ordered the filet mignon but his was supposed to be rare and mine medium. They both looked the same (medium) and the containers were not marked. The sauces that they gave you were only half full and not enough. I like to dunk everything in the Yum Yum sauce. Recovery is so important to me. My bartender was Marcel and the fact that I judged him way before he even really showed me he cared stood out for me. He made an amazing mojito and I ordered sushi my daughter wings and I had ordered hibachi chicken rice. Ok 7:40 and they want to seat us at a communal table with people having a party as I did not plan on ordering any hibachi I asked to be seated at a private table in the lounge. The temperature in the room was waay too warm to be comfortable. We ordered edamame for an appetizer. Came for dinner on a Wednesday night. They are only allowing reservations for hibachi service and walk-ins may still in the bar area however it was full last night, luckily we had a reservation. I have been to many hibachi style restaurants and Japanese steakhouses before but this was my first experience at a Benihana. I had high expectations because of friends stories, but this meal really didn't live up to the hype. We were sat at a table that had four plates (there were only two of us in our party). As we waited to be greeted by a server another table near us was sat with a party of two. We waited a bit more and then were joined by a party of three at our table. We noticed the table of two near us was already being greeted and ordering drinks while we were waiting for the rest of our table to sit. Once they sat and were comfortable a server came to greet us and take drink orders. We both ordered water, however the other guest at our table ordered cocktails. Our server did not bring our waters to the table until the other guests cocktails were ready. At which point he asked if we wanted appetizers, we did not. The other guests orders appetizers. (It is at this point we notice the table of two next to us had already received their beverages, soups and salads). Our server put in the order for the appetizer and returned to take our dinner order. My guest and I both ordered Rocky's Choice which comes with hibachi vegetable, shrimp appetizer, steamed rice (with a choice to upgrade to chicken fried rice for $4+ more), chicken, steak, green tea, and ice cream for dessert. Server took the rest of the tables orders and left. At this point we had been in the restaurant for 30 minutes and only received water. (That table I keep mentioning is currently clapping for their onion volcano at this point, salads and soups cleared, and happily munching away on their rice). Now the other guests at our table receive their appetizer. My stomach let's out quite the growl because I'm starving at this point. At last we see a chef pushing a cart full of food our way! Hooray! He set ups his station and takes temperatures for our steaks and begins preparing the grill. Now I'm really confused because in my past experience with hibachi I should be full of soup and salad by now?? And that's when I see our server coming around the corner with soup and salad in hand. 40 minutes in to this experience and I finally get my first bite of soup. I was disappointed because the soup was not hot, warm at minimum, but at least it had a great flavor. Salad dressing was nice and light with great greens and veggies. What would hibachi be without a good ole fashion onion volcano which our chef displayed wonderfully! Next up came the steak? Which also confused me because we had not yet received our steamed rice (which we ended up having to ask the server for specifically even though it's listed on the menu??) or any of the veggies. But I was too hungry to care at that point and dug in. We order the steak medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. Chicken came next and I was a little bummed because it was a relatively small portion, especially compared to the steak. The chicken was cooked nicely but lacked in flavor. Next up, the veggies also cooked very well. Our server stopped by to make sure everything was tasting good, at which point we asked for our rice. After dinner we asked about the jasmine green tea mention in the menu with our dinner and we received a large pot, which was wonderful and perfect after such a large meal. We split some rainbow sherbet because we were feeling nostalgic but mainly because it was included! Overall I would say I was let down. The food was decent but nothing special, the service was alright, and our chef was definitely not as much as an entertainer as the few chefs we noticed around us but did provide us with a few shrimp tail flips into the hat at the end of service. I would not recommend this place to friends, especially after our experience as a whole. I do not believe that it was worth (after tax and tip) ~$80 for two people especially without ordering any drinks or appetizers.
