Drinks are great. Espresso martini made with real espresso is 10/10. Food is 8/10 for sure. This place is a good time sally.

The ice cream is definitely store bought, likely Sysco or Kroger brand.

Date of visit: November 2, 2024 After forgetting about the gift card we received for our wedding almost 2.5 years ago, we took advantage of an evening downtown with a couple friends to use the gift card and get an extra little show with our dinner. Alyssa was our server and unfortunately I wasn't able to catch our chef's name, but he was very good at what he did; between explaining what everything was and the flashes of hand work, we were entertained while our food was prepared. We shared our table with another party and they gave us a decent amount of space so we didn't feel as though we were bumping elbows with strangers, and I appreciated that. All of the food was quite good, from my teriyaki steak and shrimp to the opening salvos of soup and salad. The sauces that were served with the meal were also good; I can't quite explain the Yummy Yummy sauce, but I know that I do think it's yummy! Really the only faux pas here was the pacing was a bit off. By the time I received my shrimp, the steak was cold and I wish I had been advised of this and I would have just treated them as though they were different courses and enjoyed them separately.

Khalid working his magic!

Got the seafood noodles and steak. Food was great. Khalid was amazing. Best show I've seen in a while!

My Visit: I dined at this location with my husband. We made reservations via the Open Table app. Prior to arrival we noticed that we were running a few minutes behind so we called and asked if we'd still be able to dine-in and were kindly informed that we would still be able to eat. When we arrived, we walked up the stairs to the dining area and were immediately seated at a hibachi grill with a party of 3 whom had been waiting. The waitress served the waters, salads, and miso soups right away. She immediately followed with taking our orders. Food: My husband and I both ordered hibachi chicken and shrimp with fried rice. The food was good, and they offer yum-yum sauce (important to me because I've been to a hibachi spot that did not have yum yum sauce). Service: S for satisfied. I wouldn't rave about the service, but I wouldn't say that it was awful either. Pros: allowed my husband and I to still dine-in after arriving 8 mins late, immediate and efficient serving, no problem with redeeming birthday gift certificate. Cons: Felt a bit rushed. While everyone at our hibachi grill was boxing up left overs, the employees turned the lights off on us. In their defense, the restaurant had just closed. Value: $$ We spent at least $120 for two on our visit and that includes a $30 birthday gift certificate. However; we each had an alcoholic beverage as well. **birthday gift certificate: I have noticed that a lot of people have negative reviews of this location due to the redemption process of the birthday gift certificate. It is important to print the certificate when you receive it, check its expiration date, and read their policies. I believe it must be printed, redeemed at dinner time, and you could be asked to see I.D. Can't remember all the policies but just review them so there is no issue, if you have one. Ambiance: location could use a deep clean, especially the carpeting. Location: 850 N Plankinton Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53203 Phone: (414) 270-0890

Is there any other place to go downtown to get hibachi? Maybe, but Benihana is the spot to go to if you have a large group and want to get hibachi and you're downtown. Parking stinks, but it's not their fault. The folks are super nice, from the host to the servers, and the person making the food. It's definitely an experience and I would definitely recommend if you're looking for a good ole time.

Honestly I'm glad I didn't check the reviews before I went here. The outside is a little off putting because it's an old building that doesn't look like it's been updated. We went for downtown restaurant week because they had a deal and we love hibachi. We made a reservation and we're sat immediately. Our waitress was quick and got our drinks in a timely manner. I really liked our chef as well. He didn't talk a lot but he definitely would if someone started to strike up a conversation so he was able to adapt to different crowds. This was some of the best tasting hibachi I've had. It was super flavorful. I do wish the vegetable portion was bigger but overall I enjoyed my meal.

When we arrived for our 4:30p reservation, there was a line of half a dozen people hoping to get a seat at one of the bars first come, first serve. One is the alcohol bar and one is a sushi bar. Our server was amazing. She had great recommendations and made sure what we ordered was spaced out nicely as the tables are small and some of the dishes take up a good amount of space. We ordered bottles of mineral water. We don't really drink so this made the meal feel even more upscale and it went so well to cleanse the palate between courses. The food was phenomenal. There wasn't a dish we didn't love but extra about out for the hamachi kama yaki - grilled yellowtail collar. It was bigger and meatier than I expected. Delicious. The sushi here is amazing. I'm half Japanese. When I go to sushi places not near a coast, I usually don't get much raw aside from scallops and spicy tuna or salmon rolls. These hand rolls were absolutely fantastic. The seaweed wrappers had covers on them to slide off just before taking a bite so the wrappers stayed crispy. I would go back here just to order various hand rolls. The pad Thai was the best I've had. The noodles were perfectly cooked and smooth in my mouth with the light yet creamy sauce. I could only take a couple bites as we ordered more than we expected we could eat haha. I cannot wait to go back to Milwaukee to go back.

The reason I speak to the number of adults is because they were a bit inappropriate: they were very loud and I felt so bad because I have no doubt the group I was with disrupted the experience of other diners. I'm not a prude but even I was slightly embarrassed at times (I didn't know the group well and didn't anticipate the noise/volume). ANYWAY, I bring all that up because our server tolerated us and I was very grateful for him. Aside from being kind, he was very knowledgeable about trying/pairing items and making suggestions for us. The drinks were beautiful and the food was bright--fresh and flavorful. Bathrooms were spotless. I am looking forward to coming back on my own ;)

We have been to this restaurant three times now and have been generally pleased with our…read moreexperiences each time. I usually get the sushi lunch set, and my husband typically gets the panang curry. We've also tried several appetizers; the gyoza were decent, the fish cakes were tasty, and the tom kha soup is quite good. Prices are a little steep for appetizers. The chicken in the panang curry tended to be rather overcooked, but the sauce is fantastic. The spicy tuna roll is good, the Alaska roll is standard fare, but the Fire Dragon roll was excellent. We also tried the Milwaukee roll and that was good too. My only significant complaint is that the sushi set has increased in price (by removing one of the items you're allowed to get with it). On my two previous experiences, you could get two classic sushi rolls, a miso soup, and either spring rolls or crab rangoon. On this last visit, they've redesigned the lunch set menu and now for the same price ($15.95) you can still get two classic sushi rolls, but then you only get a choice of one side -- soup or fried item or salad item. That's disappointing. They do offer the choice of getting a premium sushi roll instead of the two classic rolls for the same price, or for $23.95 you can get even more (though I don't recall the specifics). So while I previously thought the sushi lunch set was an excellent value for the price, I was bummed that they'd reduced the amount of food you enjoy for the price instead. And as a sidenote, the Thai tea is smallish in size compared to what you can get at other similar Thai restaurants. At $4.50 it's not that great a deal. All that said, I'll be back for that Fire Dragon roll. That thing was excellent.

Chicken Pad Thai + Pork Fried Gyozas…read more I wanted to love this one... but it just didn't hit like I expected The pad thai wasn't my favorite..the flavor felt kinda muted and it came with tofu (which I'm personally not a fan of), so that already threw it off for me. I was hoping for that bold, saucy, slightly sweet-tangy pad thai moment and it just wasn't giving. The gyozas were also underwhelming, usually they're crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor, but these were kinda flat and forgettable 2/5

Multiple people greeted us and then thanked us on the way out. All of their sushi options sounded delicious. I got the Very Crunchy. It was served with a fun presentation over dried ice. The sushi itself tasted amazing, even though sushi isn't my favorite. I got the Pad Thai for an entree and I honestly think it's some of the best Pad Thai I've had in a while in Milwaukee. The sauce to noodle ratio was spot on and the flavor was perfect with the right amount of spice. Portions were great as well. Overall, definitely make sure to stop by!

They had a special for Bluefin Tuna. We shared the Nigiri trio by cutting each piece in half. My favorites were the two fattier cuts ( otoro, and chutoro ) I remember at this point we wished we had ordered another appetizer since the restaurant was busy and our main sushi rolls took a bit of time to arrive. We decided next time we would at least get the edamame in between plates. The rolls we ordered were the Ponzu Jello and Riverwest. The Riverwest description listed a smoky miso mayo which I did not notice a different from regular flavored mayo on a roll. The Ponzu Jello was unique and worth trying! The rolls were fat and very filling so we did not need to order more than two! I think we both agreed that the Riverwest roll was our favorite of the two. After that we noticed there was a special for some premium sake, so we ordered the G Joy. Very delicious, easy to drink and a perfect size to share.
