I called ahead to make sure the location did the power lunch. I sat on the grill side and they told me the rice would be brought out from the back because it takes too long to cook. The manager was extremely rude to me and the chef, Aiden, also said something along the lines of "you're not happy because it's not the way you wanted it," as if my expectations at a hibachi restaurant are "bratty." If I was okay with my food coming from the back I could've sat somewhere else in the restaurant or even door dashed. The food does not taste the same when it is not cooked on the grill. I was also the only one at the table which made it even more frustrating that they did not cook the rice. I get keeping lunch to under 45 minutes but the service was piss poor at best. My server was Joselyn and when it came time for me to pay she left the machine at the table with the receipt on top. There were 4 people in the restaurant, and that is not how you treat a customer who is already having a bad experience. I can see why this place only has 3.7 stars on open table. The soup wasn't hot and the rice was not good at all. I had to use a lot of soy sauce to make it taste edible.

My colleague and I came here after a long week of work, on the last night of our business trip. It was close to where we were staying and we were too tired to look up anything else. Everyone likes hibachi, what could go wrong? We entered and were told there'd be a short wait for the hibachi so we assumed the place was packed, but once we were taken to the back, we learned this wasn't the case. They were just waiting for more hibachi customers to fill up our table, which makes sense, but I wish they were more transparent with this from the beginning. Getting the grill set up and the cook also took a long time even though our table was seated and ready. The servers took our orders and took awhile to come back with salad and miso soup. We watched the other tables from across the room get their hibachi show. Finally our starters and drinks came and the chef began the performance. He was quite low energy which also affected the energy of our group to an extent (compared to the other two tables next to us). Overall it was OK. We weren't there for the hibachi show as much as other groups maybe were (tourists, kids, those celebrating something). We just wanted to fill our stomachs and be on our way. In the middle of our meal, we saw another group of two get led to a hibachi station and their show started right away without the same wait we had. We also witnessed an accident where a server dropped a bunch of glasses and glass shattered all over the floor. The server and other workers didn't seem concerned or in a rush to clean it up. They just walked away, which seemed concerning to us.

A ridiculous receipt

I've been to this establishment a few times. I stopped in to have a quick bite.... chicken fried rice and an afternoon cocktail. Food was very tasty. Customer service was great and accommodating. I would've gave this a four star, but seeing that the drink cost more than the food was completely ridiculous. I would've expected it to be reversed the food to be more than the cocktail. I simply had one shot of Tito's vodka with a couple of limes in it for $17 I could've brought a bottle almost for that price never again will I go and support any of their alcoholic beverages?....Smh

Sad rice that came way late

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was honestly disappointing. We arrived very hungry and ended up spending nearly two hours (9-11 PM) in the restaurant, largely due to extremely slow service. Water refills were an ongoing issue -- we had to ask repeatedly -- and despite asking, I never received the lemon I wanted for my water. The portion sizes were very small, especially considering how expensive the meals were ($40). The salad was sad and tasted way too much of ginger, following this Both my brother and I ordered the chicken teriyaki, and unfortunately it was extremely dry. To make things worse, the rice came out well after the rest of the food, which made the meal even more frustrating. I'd also like to add that the ambiance was okay but we ended up reeking of smoke due to the long wait and cook time. To their credit, the owner did acknowledge the issue and offered a small discount, but it wasn't nearly enough to make up for the overall experience or the amount of time we spent there. Only reason it's gettin one stay if the chef did like 2 cool tricks I've never seen. If you're considering teppanyaki, I'd strongly recommend going somewhere else.

I recently visited a friend in Chicago. I was born & raised in Chicago but now live elsewhere. Surprisingly this was my first time dining at Benihana on Michigan Ave. My friend recommended it. We had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was lively. The restaurant was busy but not chaotic. Everyone around us was enjoying themselves. Lots of groups celebrating birthdays. FUN Times! We were seated with a family celebrating their young son's birthday. He was mesmerized by the chef. The staff was attentive. The food was very tasty and cooked to perfection. Our chef was entertaining and engaging. We enjoyed our meal without feeling rushed. I highly recommend Benihana and look forward to returning in the future.

Another picture of the burritos cut in half so that you can see that they both only had white rice in them and it's so upsetting

Great meal exactly what I was expecting. If you have been to Benihana before this is a location to check out.

Wth is warm sushi?!? Anyway although expensive, there is no cheap lunch in river north, I enjoy the poke bowls from here. It's a light lunch option & I fee like the ingredients are better quality than some sushi restaurant I've visited. The sticky rice is always cooked to perfection & the avocado in the bowl is downright amazing. This is honestly my first experience with pike bowls which is basically deconstructed sushi roll with lettuce but the flavors along with the sauces are pretty damn good. I'll definitely be seeking out the very best the city has to offer in regards to poke but this is a good start. The bowls are $10 & are actually a decent sized por

It was definitely smaller than other poke bowls I've had. It was also half lettuce. I would have preferred all sushi rice and maybe a pinch of lettuce on top for some extra flavors. I felt a little cheated out of my poke bowl. The tuna itself was really good. It tasted fresh and I enjoyed it. But given the size and make of the bowl, I wouldn't order this again. My coworker ordered a Bento Box and it appeared to be a much better value for your money. I'd probably go back for the sushi or maybe to try the bento box, but this wouldn't be my first choice amongst the options at the Mart.

First floor you get to order from both the Chinese menu and the Japanese menu. We decided to just go with Japanese today! We were craving uni and was slightly disappointed to hear they don't have it today... not sure if I heard correctly but I think they only serve it on Friday (?) So we were forced to try other things on the menu, which I was really glad I did. It was delicious!!! I'm completely obsessed with the wagyu maki. The wagyu was so tender and juicy. I also love a lot of their sushi nigiri's. I highly recommend the sushi signature set, which gives you 3pcs of white tuna, tuna, and salmon. The wasabi wasn't too strong and I felt it complimented the sushi. However the rice kept falling apart in the rolls and in the nigiri, which isn't a huge problem when everything else is 10/10 This place is on the pricier side but not going to break the bank if you want fresh sushi. The service was great! I believe our server's name was Vincent and he was very attentive and knowledgeable. This place was EXTREMELY quiet, like we were the only party there. I really hope they get more business because this place truly is a hidden gem with some of the best sushi in the location. I will be returning to try other items!

The interior is stunning and the staff were all very attentive and nice. Food wise, it was just ok for me. The Wagyu sliders had tender meat but it was way too saucy which made the bread soggy and hard to eat. The rolls were beautifully plated but tasted ok. I think since they didn't use white sushi rice, it fell apart easily. The salmon nigiri looked so good but wasn't as smooth as I hoped but not horrible. The scallop was the best bite of the night- so smooth and fresh. Edamame again was just ok, didn't taste too much truffle but I'm glad it wasn't overcooked and still had a good bite. In total, 1 appetizer, 2 speciality rolls, 4 pieces of nigiri, the sandwich and a Diet Coke was about $50 between 2 people which isn't bad. We were both pretty full and satisfied.

I like how they leave the shaker to top it off as well! The bread service was okay, nothing crazy. The French onion soup was great and it was a big portion. I like when it doesn't have a ton of cheese and this one had the perfect ratio. I got a 8oz filet cooked medium rare. This was cooked perfectly! A very good filet. The filet was cooked correctly and was tender, but overall, the food was average and bland. The sides were decent, nothing memorable. For what is widely considered the most expensive steakhouse in the city, the food simply did not deliver the level of quality or execution I expect from a true five-star steakhouse What really ruined the experience for me, however, was the complete lack of ambiance. Mastro's publicly states that it prides itself on offering an elegant, memorable dining experience and clearly outlines an upscale dress code meant to maintain a sophisticated atmosphere. Unfortunately, that policy was not enforced at all. Guests were dressed in sweatpants, extremely revealing outfits, baseball caps, and clothing more appropriate for a casual chain restaurant. The disconnect between the stated dress code and what was actually allowed in the dining room was shocking. When you're paying premium prices, ambiance matters just as much as food and service. Instead of feeling refined or special, the room felt chaotic and cheapened by the lack of standards. It genuinely detracted from the entire experience and left a bad taste in my mouth. I had been wanting to try Mastro's for a long time, and this visit was a major letdown. At this price point, expectations are high, and unfortunately, Mastro's Chicago did not meet them. Between the average food and the complete absence of the upscale atmosphere they advertise, I won't be returning. For a restaurant charging top-tier prices, enforcing basic standards should not be optional.
