For my close friends birthday this past week we went to Benihana to celebrate. There was a reservation made at 9:30 for Thursday, November 20. We were greeted and sat relatively quickly. The server then greeted us a little bit after we were sat. Definitely had some time to look over the menu and then server asked us if we were new to Benihana and most of us said yes we had never been. the server then did nothing to explain how the ordering worked or how we should be ordering here and immediately jumped into our drink orders. Everybody got a cocktail or some sort of juice. The server comes back and says we'll do the food order while the drinks are being made, totally fine. We then start ordering the food. None of us have an idea of how to order here so we start ordering the chicken fried rice to which the server very quickly changes tone and is clearly very upset that she is serving our table now. she is up selling every single person on two sides of chicken fried rice, which is understandable but also clearly does not want to serve us anymore. Went to our food order she stops and asked the table are all of you ordering the fried rice side to wish. Everybody says yes, and she rolled her eye. The server immediately becomes very standoffish, walks away, starts delivering our drinks kind of dropping the drinks very harshly continually telling us that the bar is closed. I'm a little bit confused why she's telling us the bar is closed because she asked us if we wanted drinks, we did not initiate that discussion. As the server is bringing some of our appetizers out, she begins to tell someone at our table that the kitchen is actually closed. This is a very confusing statement as I'm not understanding why we would be able to make a reservation in an hour and a half ahead of the building closing if the kitchen already has closed by the time we set the reservation. The chef comes over to cook our food and he's fantastic. Our chef was great! if I could take all of our 22% gratuity and take it from the server and give it to the chef I would because I felt much more at home with the chef than I did with our server the server then says we're about to close which we can understand we recognize and leaves us essentially. I could also feel that the temperature of the building was cooled. This is a classic technique that restaurants do cool down the restaurant people get up and leave. It did not even hit 11 o'clock and that is when the restaurant closes so I thought that we were being rushed out at an Unreasonable time. This is really a shame because it really did ruin my friend's birthday and the rest of the night we kept talking about how awful we felt during the whole time at Benihana. when we first sat down our server asked if we were celebrating anything and we had said that it was our friend's birthday. It was then very peculiar to witness every other table have someone sing happy birthday to them and then have nobody greet us. It seeed like we were being singled out. I would not recommend going to the Benihana to anybody. Top of all of this, I had just gotten a procedure to get my wisdom teeth removed, and I was going to dinner to be with my friends to celebrate my friend when I told the server that I was not able to eat, she rolled her eyes at me and then walked away after which my friend had to explain that I was not able to eat due to procedure that I gotten, and then the server had seemed to not believe her. read more

Should grabbed a roll while we were there because food service would turn out to take forever. We had reservation at 6pm. Seated at 6pm. Chef did not come to table for another hour. Ordered appetizers which also took long. Once sushi arrived, took another 10 minutes just to get soy sauce. These should always be offered before or after. How can I use the wasabi if no soy sauce. Ugh. Meal itself was good. Our Chef Roman was good. Food cooked appropriately. For our order, we specifically at our table noted that most didn't want mushrooms, instead extra onions. This did not occur. There was three different birthdays being celebrated. We eventually got ice cream but no pictures were taken. Super Bum about this. One couple it was their first time. The birthday girl, who birthday it actually was and she specifically picked this restaurant didn't get her green tea ice cream because it took an extra 15 min to arrive. I don't think they will be back. Very disappointed in service and they suggested Wu's as an alternative. Saving grace was Cheesecake Factory next door for dessert. read more

We went to Benihana to celebrate my goddaughter's 7th birthday and had to leave before we could eat, because it took them more than 90 minutes from the time we were seated for the chef to come out and start cooking. Nobody came over to explain why there was a delay, and they only sent a chef over after we asked multiple times what was taking so long. We had a 6:30 pm reservation on a Thursday and they acknowledged that we were celebrating a birthday and saw four children at our full table, and still made no effort to check in on us, To be actively ignored for so long, especially with (very patient and well behaved) children in our party, one of whom was so excited to celebrate her birthday there, is completely unacceptable and I will absolutely never be back to this location as long as it is managed by the same people. read more

Adding veggies and soy sauce to white rice is not worth $6, but whatever). No issues otherwise with our meals Service: They seem to be short staffed as it relates to chefs. We waited a while for one to start fixing our food. However, once he started, he did a great job. No issues with the hosts and server. However, the manager was condescending and absolutely soured us on the experience. The experience with him alone was enough for me to never want to return to this location. The customer is not always right, but that doesn't mean they need be spoken to in a rude manner, especially if they were not speaking to you in that way. So it's nice to drop in the routine again. Chicago's Benihana is located in the base of the Hancock building, it's the tallest in the city so it's easy to spot. We probably got the first reservation on a Tuesday. The dining area is pretty large and nicely design. There's separate party rooms, a bar, and a sushi bar. Everything was cooked well. Service was great our server Seven was excellent and so was our chef Raphael was great. Dude doing trucks and stuff, we got early seats so there was only three at our table. Cooking skills and performance deserve a packed house, but we were happy to help him warm up for the night. read more
