Carri Kaplan, the owner of Bend to Mend Physical Therapy is amazing! She is so knowledgeable about how everything in your body works together. Carri was recommended to my husband by our doctor for debilitating back pain. She has worked with my husband for about six weeks and the results hve been amazing! He is so much more comfortable now. Wait what do you mean you are not going to bring me in a dozen + times to "assess" my problem? Oh it's because you know what you are doing and not trying to rack up a bill. Recently I went in for a knee issue and my own diagnosis of the problem ( come on you know you've diagnosed health issues on Web MD) and Carri Kaplan (the most energetic and dynamic human I've ever seen packed into such a small frame) set me straight. Bonus? She use to be a massage therapist. Another bonus? She use to teach yoga. So in my three appointments I really received 6 sessions. Sure I can go to a doctor, receive a pill, and cover up the problem, but I want to solve rather then medicate. If you agree Carri is your PT. Not only did she give me exercises for the issue, she went well above and beyond by assessing many other area I could improve to support the healing regiment (including strengthening my yoga routine). I had to update progress I've made after going to Carri Kaplan for physical therapy. Gone are the days when I am incapacitated after straining something without exactly knowing what I was doing. I can honestly say that due to her vast knowledge she has taught me enough about myself that I know my limits which enables me to become stronger, more mobile, and free from chronic pain. In addition, I don't think I have even averaged visiting her once a month, because her technique and guidance is so effective. She is NOT about the money. She really wants to help people heal. Carri was awesome! I love her down to earth sensible approach, strong hands and holistic approach to handling my shoulder issues. I'm a competitive beach volleyball player who came to Carri with serious pain in my shoulder. Through several sessions, Carri fixed my pain, gave me exercises to strengthen weaker muscles and helped me analyze how my hitting arm swing needed to be changed. I went to Carri Kaplan at a space on Market St. based on the recommendation of Jonathan Bell, a Naturopath in Ballard for chronic neck pain on the right side of my neck. I go to an acupuncturist & a massage person, but he thought a more active approach would help. I agreed to see her. While Carrie might be a good massage therapist or PT, she really needs to work on her people skills. First of all, I told her that my mother-in-law had just passed away & I was very sad. She said she understood & then asked if I'd done the paperwork online & had it ready? Well, no, too sad & distracted. Ok, I filled out the papers, she asked about my insurance & then I laid down on the massage table so she could look at my neck/shoulders, etc. Carri kept asking me questions like, "Oh, your chin sticks out to the left..why is that?" My thought bubble: Uhhm, tight neck muscles? "Your shoulders are off...one is flat"...then, wait for it, "Do you have scoliosis? Because your body is so twisted..." I said, no, and don't you think I would have told you that in the first place?...And really, why doesn't she just look at my spine to SEE if I have scoliosis? Then she had me stand up, take my shirt off and look in the studio mirror & she was not pleased w/ what she saw...(Me either, since I was wearing a jog bra & my stomach looked pouchy :)...Why look, I'm unbalanced! No kidding Sherlock... I know that one shoulder presents higher than the other. My neck is messed up and I'm asking for help with my body mechanics. When does that part start?? So finally she does a little massage work which felt nice, shows me some exercises and I leave feeling like my self esteem has taken a bruising but I'm not sure why...She did compliment me on my black and gold DV sandals when I came into her space & then proceeded to step on them twice as she walked by them so I shoved them under a chair. I returned the next Monday, mostly to give Carri another chance, thinking that maybe I was having an off day. When I came in a few minutes late, she was short with me, asked how my neck/shoulders felt. As I tried to explain that the exercises she gave me helped, but I still had neck pain & it was def tied to my rt shoulder, she interrupted me and said that she didn't understand me because we speak different languages, meaning she speaks lofty medical speak and I speak dumb civillian speak. I asked her if she meant that I was speaking Spanish or another language? And then the conversation spiraled downward & I left because obviously we were not going to be able to have a working relationship of any kind. read more
