In May 2025, my scooter was struck by a car and I took a hard fall on the road. Luckily, I was wearing a helmet (please do - geeze people, be safe!), but I unfortunately sprained both of my ankles and struck my palm on the ground. It was pretty bad! I started my sessions with Mari in late June, and she a great job of assessing my movement and pain points. She set me up with a really achievable regimen of exercises and self-massage, and after a few weeks my hand and neck are already significantly better! The ankles are a bit more complex, but there is improvement, and Mari has really well of talking things over with me to make adjustments to prevent pain and strengthen in the right places. In our most recent session, she also used Graston technique (tissue scraping with tools) on the various tendons around my ankles, and I was amazed by how it brought relief that was significant, immediate, and lasting. Total wizardry!! Overall, I've loved working with Mari and appreciate her kindness and willingness to adjust her approach, and also talking over payment with me. Mari was recommended to my by a sports medicine doctor. I had two issues: a disc bulge in my lower back and rotator cuff tears in my right shoulder. Mari is super good at targeting the exact locations of my symptoms and then helping me to learn the exercises which contribute to experiencing them less. Yelp says five stars means "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" While I haven't been to every physical therapy place in Seattle, I am confident that Mari at Thrive is indeed as good as it gets. I'll make a long story short: Severe back and left leg pain. Mari took a lot of time to talk to me at our first visit and I think she correctly diagnosed the issue, which was not what I was initially thinking it was. She has a technique that decompresses the spine, and she gave me some exercises to do at home to relieve the pressure on my sciatic nerve, and within a couple of weeks almost all the pain was gone. Now we are working to rebuild the muscles and strength in the affected leg. I can walk! I can do garden work! It's like I've been released from a jail of pain. Depending on what your problem is, you may not have the same results as I did. That being said, I suggest you give Mari a chance BEFORE you start with the MRI's, X-rays, and visits to other medical specialists. I went to her for plantar fascitis and she completely cured it. It has now been 3 months since I stopped seeing her and I can be very active and have no pain. I just started a dance class which I have wanted to do for some time, but postponed because of my pain. She also helped with some other problems as long as I was there. I am actually pretty skeptical about physical therapists. I have been to many. I have had a lot of problems with my back and with plantar fasciitis in the past. I know how persistent it can be. He had previously been there for a neck problem and could not say enough good things about Mari, so I took his advice and made an appointment. I've been bicycle racing locally for a number of years, when last season I started getting some significant chronic hamstring pain. I knew I was severely lacking in core strength and being taller than 6 feet, I have posture problems, which now seemed to be catching up to me. I started seeing Mari about once a week for strength training, manual manipulation and graston massage. During the sessions she also helped me fully understand how to do each move correctly (which is not always as easy as it sounds), but also helped me understand the importance of muscle activation rather than focus on pure muscle strength). Mari also helped me plan a few workout sets that I now regularly do at home. There were a few times where I went into a scheduled session with a different issue (neck pain or pain in my back) and she immediately went to work on it. In the past these kinds of issues would have lingered for days or weeks. I'm now walking taller, I'm stronger than I have ever been, and I have had my most successful season yet landing on the top of the podium in half my races this year! I was hit by a car on my bike and was left with some moderate to severe pain as well as some displacement in my hips. I was seeing a chiropractor for some time and was only getting temporary pain relief and the displacement in my hips was becoming more extreme. This chiropractor "graduated" me without even giving me a final "once-over" in which she would have noticed my hips being more displaced to the point I was bobbing up and down almost 2 inches difference every time I walked (I think she knew she had messed up and was scared to address it and decided to let me go). I was so upset and honestly very discouraged by the way I was treated that when I was referred to Mari @ Thrive I was hesitant to even see anybody again.
