Have seen two different Orthopedic doctors for the same issue at this location and I sincerely hope…read moretheir family members never receive the lazy and uncaring treatment I received. Doctor #1: Refused to send me to Physical Therapy- said wouldn't help at all, in fact make the situation worse. Instead recommended a $600 out of pocket treatment that did zero to help. Saw another doctor at another clinic that did end up sending me to PT. PT gave me back my mobility and decreased pain. Doctor # 2: Given outdated and unnecessary paperwork to complete (according to my insurance and the UW customer service)- haven't these people bothered to check in the last 4 years what papers are in patient care packets? Called in for a serious reaction after surgery- could be blood clots they said. Then said would set up appointment for procedure to check on possible clots (their words, "possible blood clots")....still waiting....sent email asking about appointment...still waiting on response. Guess I'll be going to the ER to get this checked on then? Why put the idea of blood clots in my mind and then drop the follow-up to get me seen for this life threatening condition? Customer representatives when you call into the clinic are rude, curt and useless. When I have been in the waiting room, have heard them taking about patients, mocking them and making fun. Shame on you making fun of sick people in pain.

I broke my toe recently, and was referred to Dr. Bouche or associates. Dr. Bouche was booked out…read morefor quite a while, so I saw Dr. McInnes instead. Bad news, I needed surgery, but good news, Dr. McInnes and his nurse, Dee, are super nice, as is everybody else I have interacted with at the clinic (another nurse, Angie, and all the receptionists). Dr. McInnes and Dee have both taken the time to answer all my questions, and the doctor went out of his way to explain things to me after surgery *and* in my next appointment--just in case I had missed anything in my post-surgery stupor. He drew pictures, and even showed me some photos he took of my little bone fragments with his iPhone (not kidding). He's done a great job of explaining everything to me very clearly, making sure I understood, and making sure I was as comfortable as possible with everything. (For example, I have a pin in my toe that will be removed later, and he modified the dressing a little bit so the pin would be covered because I was nervous about having the end exposed. He also gave me a new prescription for pain meds the first time I saw him, because the Vicodin the ER gave me was giving me a lot of nausea.) On the down side, you have to pay for parking, but again on the plus side, when I left today, the parking lady gave me a jar of blackberry jam! What!!! That's not even possible. BUT IT IS, and I have the jam to prove it.

This is an older facility that UW Medicine acquired at some point and looks outdated both outside…read moreand inside. It is a long walk from the main entrance to the elevators (not great if you can't walk!) And the foot and ankle clinic oddly didn't have seats in their waiting room conducive to those with foot/ankle injuries. On my first visit I had to wait for the receptionist to check in two other people while I balanced on crutches in pain. When I sat down to await being seen there was nowhere to prop up my injured leg. I thought this was really odd. They could really use some tall chairs like the Sports Medicine Clinic at Husky Stadium has if they don't have other ways to elevate injuries. When I checked in I was in a lot of pain and had to ask for a wheelchair. I was surprised they didn't offer one when they saw me hobbling around in pain. I can't be the first person to come in like this - it is a foot and ankle specialty clinic! Once I was brought back to the exam room the visit went very smoothly. The team works well together and the doctor I saw was very thorough and professional. I felt better after getting to ask all of my questions and seeing additional x-rays and CT scans. They were able to schedule my surgery quickly and their surgery team was very good. On the day of the surgery I was a little anxious but the surgeon and anesthesiologists working on my case were very calming and pre-surgery was pleasant and not anxiety producing. The nurse had trouble locating my vein to insert the IV and pricked me twice before she had to leave for lunch break. Luckily the female anesthesiologist offered to do it and I barely felt anyhing that time. She was quick and so friendly I was immediately at ease. The next thing I knew I was waking up. I was surprised at how long it took me to regain consciousness and awoke to an impatient anesthesiologist who was waiting on me to wake up so he could get to a surgery he was holding up at the hospital down the road because of me. I understand why he would be annoyed, but he probably shouldn't have let his annoyance hinder our interaction. I definitely did not feel comfortable letting him know I was experiencing pain at the surgery site as he stabbed me to insert the saphenous block in place and then removed it with such haste that blood pooled out all around the site. When I looked down half an hour later I was confused as to why I was bleeding. Weeks after surgery I still had a bruise at the site where the doc roughly inserted the saphenous block and yanked the block out, as well as a hard hematoma or whatever that is under the skin that was caused by that traumatic experience. I removed the palpiteal block as instructed a few days after surgery and there is no such bruise/pain/hard formation under the skin. Hopefully in the future they will be more careful post-surgery when inserting and removing additional blocks! I will say the nurses and other staff at this outpatient center were incredible. They were so patient and kind. They certainly went above and beyond the call of duty to take care of me and I am grateful for them.
