The outside back patio is chill and they have cabins/rv to rent for the night. We alllllllways stop here for a cold one (or four) after hiking at Colorado state bend ! The burgers are expensive but Delicious. Don't expect anything fancy here , well because that's how it's supposed to be !! Live music is outstanding and one of the only open mic venues in the area and the single redeeming factor. $20 Hamburger was well made and tasty but Paying $3.75 extra for hours old fries was insulting. Bend General Store randomly popped up on my FB feed a few months ago. Once I started following, I decided to make the 3 1/2 drive for a look. I was not disappointed. The burgers are amazing, but if you don't have a friend with you plan on eating half for lunch tomorrow. The beer is the right cold and you will not find friendlier servers anywhere. The owner hangs around and deserves at least 5 stars for making something out of literally nothing. ( The community donated all the materials to build the dance hall with the exception of a box of screws. ). It is more of a vibe than a place, the stress stays at the door and you are a happier person while you are there. I want everyone to know how great this place is, but also don't want anyone to know. Sunday evening they have an open mic that puts Luckenbach to shame. They have an actual house band that is great. This place is a perfect stop after a day hiking in Colorado Bend state park. My hefty bacon blue cheese burger was very satisfying and delicious. The burger meat is good quality and the produce (tomatoes, lettuce, onions) was fresh tasting. The chips were tasty too. The beer was cold. There was live music inside and the patio is dog-friendly. We went to eat there Saturday 4th, about 1 :15, the woman waiting on customers just kinda pushed us to the side after my wife was trying to tell her what we wanted. She was in too big of a hurry to get to the next people. Is one customer more important than others? Did she not like our looks? Idk. Finally she took our order after waiting on others. We got ready to pay, and she handed me the keypad with the option for a tip. I declined the tip. She saw that, kinda stuck her nose up, and made a disgusting noise. This review is for their Bier Garten Oktoberfest on a Saturday in October during Covid. We got here before the band (before the crowd of revelers), so it wasn't too busy yet. Ithas a different "out in the country" vibe, but with a little of the Austin feel. Atmosphere was simple (not at all fancy) with lots of creative details. We even had a one-of-a-kind Ketchup can lamp at our table. Service was fast and friendly. Prices were reasonable. The food was pretty good (not great). I ordered a Schnitzel Bratwurst plate. Schnitzel and German Potato Salad were both very good. But the Bratwurst was not bad. Had a texture I didn't care as much for. Had a fresh cooked pretzel as appetizer. Not homemade, but freshly baked. About on par with a good one at a movie theater. All in All, a good experience with a couple of weak spots. Would come again, but expect decent, but not amazing food. Don't eat here! Gave me diarrhea. After visiting Gorman Falls I decided to stop-in here and get some food. The inside of the place had an off-putting odor and I should've followed my instincts and just left based on that. But I was super-hungry after a day of hiking and this is the only restaurant for a good distance. So I decided to just go sit outside on the patio where the air was fresh and order something. The service was VERY slow, and they were out of chicken and catfish, so a burger was the only option. Took forever, and once the food finally came out there were no napkins, no condiments, no flatware. Burger was not very good at all and the beef patty was really thin. But I was starving so I just ate it. If there had been other restaurant options nearby I probably would've sent it back and left to go somewhere else. Spoke briefly with the owner of the place while I was there and he was a rude pr1ck! Guess he can mouth-off to people like that and still stay in business when it's the only place in town. Bless your heart! I really wish I had just waited to eat until I got to the next town though, because about 18 hours after eating there I had explosive diarrhea. Oh - their "restrooms" are literally two Porta-Pottys. My son and my mother were with me. He got the ribs and she got the catfish fit for drinks we ordered 2 teas and 1 water got the bill and it was 69.30. Plus, the chief cook was kind of a blowhard...real bad egg if ya know what I mean. If you have any horse sense about ya, you'll skedaddle on down to the Bend General Store to get more bang for them hard earned greenbacks. You can even load up your old beehive so when you're all played out you can go get snug as a bug in one of their glamorous cabins out back. Hell, I loved the place so much I went and got hitched right in front of the damn stage. For $39.99 you can have the high class wedding of your dreams. Better than any of them other uppity places that'll break the bank...and if you time it right you'll even get free live music! If you're lucky they may even let you get up on stage and sing with the band! You never know who you're going to run into at the Bend General Store... we've seen some well known cowboys there quite a many times. I guarantee any trip to this fine establishment will leave you filled with more memories and laughs than you could ever imagine. Reading these reviews on Yelp, I can't believe it is the same place. This dive bar was EXACTLY what we needed after hiking all day at Colorado Bend. The humongous hamburgers piled high with bacon cheese veggies on biscuit bread with a load of fries or onion rings washed down with a cold beer were fantastic! Shout out to Rochelle and The Sidewinders who were the live music for the night. We lucked out! Amazing talent. Her voice and moved on the stage were mesmerizing. The lead guitarist was epic. Saxophonist was so talented. Bass guitar did a blues number - in German. One of a kind. Even the newbie drummer was having fun and fun to watch. Then, the service was some of the best. We were repeatedly asked by our two girls servers if we needed anything. Someone Misordered a bucket of beer and well we were there to help them out. Fireball shots elevated the night. The outside space was covered by the music but there was a bigger open area with a fire pit, yard games and open sky. Now this is place is DEFINITELY a dive. Fish tasted good but for $15 it's no value.. next was the Mofo burger... $16 and it didn't include fries ? The place has a very funky vibe and looks like it could be a good time on a Friday night but they are overpriced from what I can gather. The gal who served us was cool , I did think it was odd to have us pay before getting our food , but after what we received I get it now . If I could give this place a zero, I would. Pre-ordered. The ribeyes, food was delivered with no utensils. We had asked twice for utensils, all the while our food is getting cold. Also, you have to fight a plethora of flies to try and eat your food. Voice a complaint get bullied and intimidated: Well let's see, the bend general store runs a Friday night steak special. Knowing it was a Friday we called ahead and were assured there was no problem getting a seat. We arrived at 6:00 and visited the store to get a few items before sitting down at 6:15. When we went to order the advertised steak special we were told they had sold out of steaks. After driving 45 minutes this was pretty frustrating. Well here is where it gets good. My mother complained about the bait and switch tactic to a female employee. Upon doing this the owner decided to take a break from cussing out his staff in front of customers to take out his rage on my mother. She came back to the table only to be chased down by Bret the owner. He rushed up to the table got into my mothers face and said "you can choose to have a good time or you can get out". Based on his behavior cussing out staff minutes before, it was not shocking at all to see him get in a female customers and try and bully them. I reached out directly to the owner asking for an apology before writing this review. But unfortunately he doubled down. If you go out to The bend general store do not complain about anything. I was a big fan the first couple of times I visited. I liked the funky vibe. I was recently shocked when I got my bill. When I questioned the bartender about why beers were so expensive, she explained that ordering a bucket of beer is more expensive than individual beers....what?!? She even apologized because she agreed that it was misleading. It seems as if the owner is trying to escape his financial problems by overcharging his customers. Bought tickets and then called to get a table. My husband is disabled. There is no free seating. Mentioned having to leave last time because we didn't know you have to purchase a place to sit separately. Was told tables cost $150 for 2 people. Said that was expensive but I would pay it. They cancelled my tickets and refused to let us attend. The owner doesn't like complaints or "bad vibes" but doesn't see that he creates them. Anyone stopping with their dogs, especially if they are small beware. Sign on the door said no pets inside so my friend waited with my small dog outside while I went in to buy some water. There is a large dog walking freely inside and when I walked out the door the dog rushed me and ran out the front door, and aggressively ran at my little dog like he was going to attack. Luckily we were able to separate the dogs before my dog was injured. The man at the counter was yelling at the dog by name and when he came out to retrieve the dog, no acknowledgment or apology even though I was screaming and there was clearly a commotion. We stopped in on a Saturday, to just kill some time, grab a beer and food while out driving, it's a different sort of place, piece milled together, with live chickens coming by your table to say Hi, and grab a bite of what ever your having. The band was a group of older men, they were pretty good! Played a lot of the old country gold stuff, really enjoyed them! The food isn't great, but it's not horrible either, the Burger my husband ate was hot and stacked high, I had a veggie chicken wrap, which I'm sure they don't get a huge call for, was tasty, but the wrap was a bit dry. Our waitress was attentive and pleasant, joked along with my husband, and me, overall was very nice. The owner gave me a couple of koozies when I asked how much they were, he said "Oh, you can just have them" very cool of him, I thought. The only reason they only get three stars, is they have a fly problem! but, considering were outside, with chickens roaming around, it is to be expected. today the kiddos and i decided to visit good ol sulfur springs park in order to get an escape from the heat blistering Texas sun. The overall vibes of this area are magical- you can find peace, quiet, and tranquility within the magic free lands of central texas, sounds like a #vacay ALOHA PLEASE i was REBIRTHED here! it was a great time (except for the bloodthirsty demon sucking dragonfly that drank the blood out of my toes and kept coming back for seconds) around 2:00 my tummy began to grumble and my kids know daddy gets hangry- so my eldest daughter, melissa drove me to this facility. I was coming up from visiting Cave Without a Name and because I enjoyed there Around The Bend Burger soo much, I went an hour out of the way the get this burger on the way back home to Fort Worth. The sourdough jalapeno bun makes this burger. I would recommend this bun for any burger or sandwich you choose. The staff is really friendly. Offer 3 spots to eat. Inside, outside by the food truck or the beer garden. We chose the beer garden and it was extremely comfortable. Plenty of tables, pool table, fire going, live music, and friendly bartender. I try to come here every chance I get, which is about once a year. Will keep coming as long as the burger is still there. I have read some posts about the owner not being friendly or rude. I dont understand why they thought he was. He was very friendly and polite. And you could tell that his staff loves working for him.
