One slow song to start the night and not one single slow song for the entirety of the event. It's a WEDDING. People want to hear slow songs and music that was performed with real instruments. These guys actually turned down multiple requests from guests for songs every DJ should absolutely have. It's not about you, dude. Play music other people like. Everyone over about 30 sat miserably at their tables waiting for a slow song or even just a good song. By the end of the night The guests were just hoping that at least the last song would be something you could actually dance to. But no, just more teenage club music garbage. They also apparently insisted on bringing their own hideous rainbow light up dance floor. It's not even remotely big enough for even an average size wedding. I guess without prep burger you can't expect much from a hack DJ. He'd be great for a junior high prom, though.

When my Uncle Ned hired him for his second vow-renewal ceremony, Evan acted less as our DJ, and more of our spiritual music guru. My blood still races whenever I think of his most tasteful moments, from the staple Lady Marmalade during the garter removal, to packing a full 1988-1993 Michael Jackson block during dinner. I thought by the end he'd given us all he'd got, but then he came back strong with our Top 40, Mo-Town jamboree fest, and a killer total request hour (which consequently just became a Bon Jovi B-sides hour). Evan abstains from alcohol, which at first threw me off. But by the fourth time LMFAO came party rockin through his sick PA setup, I knew he didn't need it to have a killer time. Never before has a DJ changed my perspective on the every day tedium. Since that night in 2013 I've changed my clothes only once, and have mostly stopped barking like a wild animal when anxious. At first I was convinced it wasn't from the power of his music, but I quickly learned otherwise when I went to my cousin's wife's aunt's successful liver surgery party. I didn't really feel like going, but there was going to be a potato skins table, and I knew I couldn't miss it. I showed up at the Elks lodge, unsure of how the night was going to go, when all of a sudden something caught my attention from the back of the room. And there he was. In his dark shades, plaid shirt and windbreaker pants, silently bobbing his head to a beat only he could hear. The night went just as smoothly as Uncle Ned's did. Smooth transitions from early Chaka Khan and Whitney Houston, to leaser known greats like Rascal Flatt's and Diddy - Dirty Money. When Party Rock came back in all of its glory, I was so giddy with delight that I actually ended up breaking some of his gear with my signature arm-windmill move. He was gracious enough to cover the cost himself, and even gave me a kiss to make me feel better. DJ Healey is more than a DJ, he's a DJ Artist. An artisan of music that spins hit after hit until your fragile human heart can't take it anymore, leaving a hole only hiring him can fill. Which my extended family has done anywhere from 80-130 times.

This venue is absolutely gorgeous and the DJ was great, had the dance floor going all night. Most important was the food. From the appetizers to the main food everything was exceptional. The first clue should have been there was not steak knife to cut filet mignon, you didn't need one. This was probably the best steak I have ever had. I wish I brought a doggy bag as I had too many appetizers which were also exceptional. The wedding planner Paige was on top of everything all night. She was exceptiona. The reaction we had when we first saw the space was the same our guest had during the wedding. Having this unique space also allowed us to be creative in setting up the wedding in our own way. It allowed us to push our creativity and for that couldn't be happier. Working with Sarah and her team to make our wedding come together, would give it 6 stars if I could. We opted in to Sarah's Without a Hitch day of wedding coordinating which I highly recommend as well. The Olio staff was extremely accommodating throughout the process and even day of the wedding. We had a few handicapped folks in our party and the staff helped them out throughout the night. My future husband was with me for the second wedding and he loved them too, so when we got engaged there was no question that we would hire them for our own wedding. We called the band before we planned anything else and picked our wedding date based on their availability! If that's not faith in their ability, I don't know what is. :) The band is fantastically talented and fun, and their manager Paul is responsive and easy to work with. They traveled from Boston to NYC to perform, and brought so much energy with them! The on-site manager/DJ Julian was charming and funny. AND the band went above and beyond and assisted my husband's best friend with a surprise tribute song to us (as part of her "best pal" speech)!
