Stopped by Bellwoods Brewery for a quick dinner on a Monday. They had plenty of seating and two separate areas for dining (a main dining area, and one closer to the bar). Service was friendly and attentive. We got the double cheeseburger (patty was juicy and flavourful, condiments complimented nicely) beef cheek pappardelle (perfectly cooked pasta and beef), and the chopped salad (had a nice tangy dressing with lots of assorted beans and veggies). We arrived during happy hour which included a selection of drinks and snacks. We unfortunately could not stay for trivia (started at 8 pm) but it seemed like a fun event and perfect date-night activity. Definitely will be back! read more

They have a great patio thats super vibey, dog friendly with communal table seating. We popped in for dinner and was happy to be seated a little after we arrived although we didn't have a reservation. The menu is limited if you're looking for healthy non meat options, we had the fries (delicious), kale salad with salmon (also delicious but salmon was definitely on the smaller portion for a 37.00 salad), and my partner had the burger (he enjoyed although meat was overcooked). Was a pleasant experience and the aperol and wine was refreshing! Our only complaint is that my salad came out way before his burger and we weren't sharing since I don't eat meat so we basically shared my salad since we were starving then he ate his burger as I waited since it took probably another 10 minutes to arrive. read more

As soon as you step into this brewery, you can already feel the festive vibes. The servers were all so friendly and helpful. Being that it's Christmas, the place was decorated to such a theme. Fabulous experience! The service and ambiance alone were stellar. Even though we had no reservation and we were seated in a tight area upstairs, we had a great time. Our server was patient with us when we were ordering drinks. The drinks were really unique. I highly recommend the coffee stout and the tea one (if you're into a lighter flavour profile). Highly recommend a taster flight (4oz pours) if there are a few that stick out! We also ordered the steak, which was cooked deliciously. Hoping to try the duck next time if it's available! (They change their menu seasonally). The food here isn't cheap but it is done well. That makes up for the price in my opinion. Hot tip: have a sippable beer while eating your steak then finish your meal off with the coffee stout. ;) read more

Dipping into the north of the U.S. border Sreve and I managed to try Bellwoods Brewery that us located out of Toronto. The beer that we enjoyed was the Roman Candle. This beer was an IPA and we really liked the hoppy, juicy, piney and sweet flavor highlights that made itself present while we were drinking this particular beer. It isn't often where we get to try a brewery from abroad so we viewed it as a real treat and the brewery was on my "to try" Yelp list so it all worked out perfectly. The brewery has some other promising beers to try and should the opportunity arise again to try something else from the brewery then we would be eagerly to explore that avenue. Definitely some of our favorite beer in Toronto. They're spot on Ossington is beautiful - attention to detail was paid in every area from the bathrooms to the different seating options. The only thing I wish they offered were flights so that you could taste more of their fabulous beer. They'll do a small pour - 4 ounces for four dollars- but one a pint only cost nine dollars. Always interested to see what new beers come out of Bellwoods Brewery. We dropped in on an early Tuesday evening (around 5:00pm). There was a small queue when we arrived. There's a couple menu sheets; dinner, draught, wine, cider, reserve bottles and non-alcoholic options. Not sure why they don't state on the menu that 4oz beer samples are offered. - Sparkly water ($3.00 for 16oz) - raspberry and lemon. Very carbonated. Light in flavour. - Pink grapefruit radler ($4.00) - decent but found it unbalanced. - White picket fence ($4.00) - blended foeder saison. Had a barrel aged, wine-like flavour. - Jelly King peach, orange & grapefruit ($4.50) - this was B's favourite. I found the grapefruit overpowered the other two fruits. - Jelly King raspberry & peach ($4.50) - my favourite from the four tasters. Refreshing and juicy. - Jelly Royale mango lassi ($8.00) - grabbed a can from the bottle shop to try. Tasted like an alcoholic mango lassi. Good thickness. Keep an eye out for their other smoothie sours. Wish BB had more of their sour beer offerings to sample. read more

This spot has grown! Retail store to the right, double wide and double-decked bar and restaurant to the left. If you're just sitting at the bar or have a party of two and the line is long, step to the front and let them know. There's usually more seating upstairs. Great beers, good sampling policy (two free small pours!), and solid food to match. Great service, too, and a fun atmosphere. Jelly King is a classic, and plenty of rotating favorites. This was a place i wanted to take my friend during our bar crawl down queen and ossington. We walked by and put our names on the waitlist and told it'd be over an hour before we could get a seat, which we were expecting and place with. We continued down Ossington and stopped at another establishment, and ordered a beverage while we waited. Within 15 mins of being seated we got a call that our table was ready. I had mentioned that we were told over an hour and asked if we could be moved to the bottom of the list again and we'd head back shortly. The person on the phone confirmed he couldn't hold our table but would happily move us to the bottom of the list. As we got back, we checked in how far we had to wait and i noticed that my name was never moved just crossed off. The individual mentioned he forgot to move me - but luckily there was a two seater that just opened up and he sat us down. I had the lager and my friend had an IPA. I found the beer to be a bit to hoppy for me, my friend enjoyed hers. Here's the $22 cheeseboard we got, i was slightly disappointed on how little the quantity of food was for the price paid. The cheeses had some great flavour to them and the jam was delicious, i would have expected to get a bit more for that price. all in all, an okay experience! read more

One of the more solid (and I believe older) breweries in the city, located in a very busy part of town.. Fairly large, wide ranging beer menu. Prices are on the higher side, especially considering some come in only 12oz pints. Every beer we tried was crisp and delicious. Sampled a few of the food items as well - above average quality on some regular favorites. Staff have always been a bit indifferent here when I've visited. Never outgoing or overly positive, but never rude either. Average at best but when you are busy all the time, do you need to be anything more? Wouldn't be my first go-to for a brewery in Toronto but it's certainly well regarded for good reason. read more

And I have to add that the duck heart skewers are pretty much the tastiest little snack in town - I can't imagine how they could be any better. I was pumped to come across Bellwoods while walking around Toronto, as a local recommended it to me as his favorite brewery. We were among the first to walk in when they opened at 2:00 pm and we bellied up at the bar. We tried about four different beers and I thought they were all very good, from hoppy IPAs to sour wild ales. While they don't offer flights, you can get 4 oz pours (up to two at a time), which is a nice substitute and good way to try the different beers. The bartenders were super nice and attentive, all while balancing a pretty big crowd. I love love love the interior of Bellwoods. It feels so cozy and just the kind of place you want to hang out in (especially when it's cold outside!). I can only imagine how clutch the patio is outside though when temps are high. Once we were done at the bar, we made our way next door to the bottleshop to take home even more beer... We were hooked! read more

This time we had a cheese platter, the West Coast IPA called Pig (fantastic beer if you like clear West Coast IPA's), and the Cutting Bells (pretty good beer). A friend (and Toronto native) recommended we visit Bellwoods Brewery on a recent trip and I could not have been more thrilled. Despite the fact that our first impression was waiting in line outside on a cold, drizzly Saturday evening, we stuck it out and were rewarded with warm patio seating, amazing beers and delicious foods. Oh and great friendly service! We nearly sampled everything, though it's possible the Bread from Blackbird Bakery (with daily butter) was my favorite. Close seconds included the Seared Terrine and Sausage dish (though the name is now escaping me). And the beers! Let's talk about the beers, because they were all amazing. I will - and do - miss them already. Creative interpretations of all my favorites... sours, saisons and IPA's, abounded. Plus the bottle room next door you can easily purchase more to go! In warmer weather, when they open the overhead door and front patio, it's lovely to sit outside and people watch. Great selection of beer and ciders with a well appointed complimentary menu. Our server was unusually well versed in food allergies. We have a dairy allergy and she asked if it was lactose intolerance or anaphylaxis to dairy. Since they have trace amounts of lactose in the beer lines and lactose wasn't an issue for us, we were fine. Highly recommend this brewery for a pint or two. Witchshark was a great choice! read more

Already a huge fan of Bellwoods Brewery, but recently had the pleasure of visiting Bellwoods' new expanded space. What a gorgeous room and a view onto Ossington! Nice new bathrooms downstairs, too. A great selection of craft beers and totally delectable Smokey duck hearts that you could lick the plate clean for the sauce alone. Order two skewers because you won't be able to just eat one. After taking over the space next door and seeming to go more upscale than in the past, Bellwoods has a new menu. It's very good, and a good option for a dinner out, even if you don't want to eat pub food. Chicken liver mousse was flavourful and well-matched with a fruit compote and crispy onions. Braised beef cheek was tender, with deep-dark umami flavour perfect for a winter night. Slightly less successful was the sauteed garlic shrimp which, although tasty, did not have a lot of garlic flavour. For a brewery, I do wish they had a little more variety in the beer styles on tap. While they have a number of different options, their list is dominated by high-alcohol cloudy IPA's and sours. read more

Fave & absolutely recommend -Sour IPA w/ Raspberry, Rhubarb, & Vanilla - 7% 9/ 16oz It's more IPA than sour, this time with the addition of raspberry, rhubarb, and vanilla. A tart, hoppy, and fruity, thirst-quencher. So delish and juicy. . Also enjoy the classic jelly king, milkshake and Roman Candle. Grilled Peach Salad 15$ Niagara peaches, arugula, goat cheese, cured pork guanciale, olive oil, anise hyssop, mint, lemon, honey. ... ok guys, this was the most expensive peach I've ever bought. The portion was tiny. It was tasty, but too small and the rest of the food was also small. Most people ordered fries. Can you maybe make your menu less bougey and more pubby? . I gotta tell you, this place is overrated. It was first time coming back in about 3 years and I was excited because the previous experience was lovely. Things have changed. I ordered a Cobb salad and my sister got a smoked salmon dish near the bottom of the menu, which to many implies it to be the size of a larger dish. She received, for $26, a disk of potato and salmon about the width of a CD. We split fries, they were overcooked and scrawny. Her bill was nearly $40, she didn't even order a drink. My Cobb salad was.... Well, I will take responsibility for seeing 'The Cobb Salad' on a menu and going "perfect, I love Cobb salad, I'll have that" without reading the rest of the ingredients listed, but that's because typically you know a Cobb salad is ham or bacon, chicken, boiled eggs, avocado, tomate, etc. This has no bacon, avocado, or chicken. None of the best parts. It had tofu. It was $20. For not even avocado. What the hell? We felt ripped off. The menu was misleading. My sister's dish was an appetizer at most. If you're going to have a Cobb of this nature, at least put vegetarian in the title or something along those lines. Or call it a different salad. It's like calling a salad niçoise but having no tuna egg or potato. If I wanted a veg Cobb I would've gone to Fresh down the street, and in fact we wished we had. We went to five restaurants that week, loved all of them except this one. Such a shame, since it was such a treat the last time. I'll keep buying from the bottle shop though. read more

My friend and I came here this past Thursday night around 7 and had a couple of people ahead of us in line. They got seated and a line formed behind us. Everyone was running around with their heads cut off (which I get I've worked in the industry for over 25 years) yet none of them maintained the hospitable know-how to be friendly or acknowledge us at the door (key importance in service) or be aware of how they were coming across or what was happening in the line. Literally to my shock the guy who was unbelievably bitchy when I asked why he was coming to the door and asking everyone BEHIND us "how many?" and somewhat attempting to seat them, literally skipping over us two in the front. It was so confusing and shocking, I began to think he was being racist since my friend is Chinese, no joke, it was so blatant. When I asked why he wasn't even looking at us let alone greeting us or asking about our party, he was so inappropriate and bitchy, saying things like "I'm facilitating the situation honey" I was shocked. After about 3 parties behind us got seated, we finally were seated as I spoke up a couple times while getting anxious while my confusion continued, while I said to him walking to the table that I am not the one being rude, we never got acknowledged then when I questioned his method of 'attending' to the door, he was brutally sarcastic and rude. He continued with remarks and left. We sat and waited of course about 10 more minutes without getting acknowleged then left. Took us long enough to abandon that sinking ship. The place is so overrated, and the staff are overwhelmed and I can speak to that one guy, unquestionably rude. We went to Union down the street, we were greeted with a smile and sat right away, dropped about $250 on share plates and drinks and were happy, imagine that, being content and happy about the experience. read more

There are a few things to keep in mind in order to make your visit here the best possible: -There will be a wait and it's not open seating -All seating including upstairs, bar, and patio require your name to be put on the list -They specialize in Pale Ales and offer bites BB was probably one of the more intimate breweries I've been to as it really does look like a great spot for a date night. Cozy and warm, and it's not the typical Brewery setting whatsoever. They take pride in their craft and I was totally floored by their beers. So much so I purchased a few to bring back with me. I have several favourites from the menu, but would recommend you chat with the server, taste their drinks and figure out your own favourites as that's a major part of the experience. The servers are helpful and friendly! The ambiance is laid back chic with low lighting and a very hip chill crowd! I was in Toronto for a short trip and was in the mood for a good brewery. Now, I'll start with why I didn't give this place 5 stars and that was because they were pretty big with their hazy IPAs - they really didn't have any clean or west coast IPAs. Other than the hazy beer, this place was fantastic. They have such a great atmosphere (we sat outside on a beautiful summer day in August), however, their inside would be pretty darn cozy on a winter day or colder day as well. The staff was friendly and super engaging - one waiter in particular. While we only had appetizers the food all looked great - especially the dinner options. If I lived in Toronto, I'd be here more often. When I go back to Toronto I'll come back, and hopefully they will then have a nice west coast IPA or two! read more

This place has it all, the atmosphere is great and the small inside is just perfectly homely- my dream house in fact haha The best bit, ofcourse the beer selection and they have a great selection of different ales, pale ales, pilsners and sours - I've tried several of there beers and I haven't had a bad one yet, the Jelly King being my favourite is the perfect mix of tart sour in a beer! I'd definitely recommend you try the bread and butter too - simple but with fresh warm bread it's a great way to soak up a bit of that booze. Bellwoods Brewery is a great spot in the Bellwoods District of Toronto. The space is about 2/3 inside, upstairs and downstairs, and 1/3 outside. When the weather is nice it gets packed, so be prepared to wait alittle bit. But the staff is good about keeping the line moving. We pretty much tried everything on the draft menu and two reserve bottles while we were there. All of the beer is amazing...the beer is so tasty and the complex flavors described on the menu really come out. Milkshark and Jelly King: Apricot and Peach were our favorites. Unfortunately, Bellwoods probably won't satisfy a dark beer lover but if you're willing to venture out it's worth it! The bottle shop is right next door which is really cool and you can buy cans and bottles of a select few of the beers they have as well as some merchandise. Really enjoyed our visits to Bellwoods and we look forward to coming back in the future! read more

This is a brewery. You come here for the beer. BUT, their menu is a bit different than most breweries and while it's small, they have the basics. FYI, if you go during the day, they only have a snack menu. The dinner menu has a good assortment, but I only ate the fries. Based off the fries, I assume the food is just fine. But this is a beer review. I randomly came upon Bellwoods a couple years ago and never looked back. Unfortunately, it's not easy to get their beer in Michigan, but if I could, I would. Instead, whenever I come to Toronto, I visit Bellwoods and buy copious amounts to take back. Some will say their sours are the best, or maybe their double IPAs. I've never not enjoyed a beer from there, so there's that. Having the bottle shop right next door is also a nice touch that not many other breweries have. If you like what you drink, go and buy some for the road. If you're in a hurry, buy some beer without having to go into the restaurant. read more

I been wanting to check out Bellwoods Brewery for months, never have a chance until now as it is open for the first time on a Tuesday! Patio with picnic tables and a huge BBQ does give the place a rustic feel... No wait for anything as I dropped by at 6 pm which it just opened! I am of course not here for the food.. as I always have beer on my mind. Bellwoods Brewery does have a surprisingly good selections, 8 different ones on draft which are all brewed on site: Ale, IPA, Porter, Dubbel, IPA, Saison, priced from $6.50 a pint. Love sitting right at the bar and watch all the action and have interaction with the bartender. (there are even hooks underneath the table for your purse!) Too bad, there are no bottles I can pick up to share with my Yelp friend.. maybe I have to drag him down for a tasting to find out which one would be our favourite!! read more

Upgrading Bellwoods to a full fledge 4 after my dinner here. I'm going to be honest, the food is solid and reasonably priced but it's not the reason why I like it here. The beer, atmosphere, and service is the reason why you should try it out. Before I forget, the wait can be bad. The first warm day of the year and at 4 pm, there was a 30 minute wait. I cannot imagine how it would be when it's actually hot and in the summer. No reservations here. So craft beer is trendy ... Toronto is loving it. So imagine a micro brewery with a hipster cool and inviting atmosphere that is reasonably priced, serves solid dishes PLUS a patio. You have Bellwoods Brewery. Bellwoods sits on Ossington. You can throw a rock and find 4 other amazing spots to eat. Bellwoods has it's niche cause I dont know of another spot that has great beers at such a reasonable price. Overall, the space has a lot of rustic woods and yet a lot of industrial fixtures to make it feel like a modern loft. The bar and dining space also happen to share the same space as the kettles. Above the main dining area, there's a loft like space. It's intimate and cozy. The main area isnt too big but you get to interact with the bar staff. They're fun to watch... Looking from above, I see them constantly talking with customers and making people laugh. The beer menu is impressive. Not only do they have Bellwoods on tap, in bottles... they also have ciders and beers from other breweries nearby. I would strongly recommend to talk to the staff on whats limited edition and try one of those. Jelly King is one of our favourites with it's citrus profile and light sourness. They had a special seasonal version with peach and raspberry. Service here is prompt, thoughtful, and fun. It's pretty low key in the sense that they actually enjoy serving you and being friendly. It feels like you're visiting someone's house and they're telling you to come into the kitchen and grab a beer with some food. They pay attention to the empty plates and always check in to make sure everything is good. Pickle Plate - It was one of the better ones we've had in Toronto. With 4 different pickles on offer, this was a sizeable shared starter that gave you mushrooms (the best... nice sourness tempered with a bit of sweetness), cauliflower (there was a nice spice to this one), rutabaga (I think... its ok), and cabbage (its cabbage. what else can i say). I really liked the cauliflower and mushrooms the best. 3.5/5 Fries - This was a monster sized mountain of fries that came in. HUGE even. Cut to be thin shoe strings, these were served hot with a garlic mayo. Some of the fries were good... crunchy and nicely salted. Other ones on top were just warm and soft. So I dont think these were all cooked at the same time or put into the oil at the same time. I wish it was a bit more consistent. 3.5/5 Grilled broccoli salad - If you look at the picture, you'll laugh. It is a giant pile of cheese. All you see is white and you wonder where are the broccoli. Well they're hiding under that insane pile. The cheese is tender and very mild. The broccoli was quite chilled... and it didnt have a lot of flavour. Interesting take on a salad though. 3.5/5 Pork and Duck meatballs - These were delicious. Really. 3 fairly large meatballs that were so tender and juicy. The sauce had a nice spice kick to it and was the perfect dipping sauce for the fries. I never used the garlic mayo once with this nice red sauce beside me. 4/5 Pierogies - So these are deceivingly small looking. It's a RICH dish. If you order this, don't expect to eat a lot more afterwards. With a huge dollop of sour cream, celeriac puree, and porchini mushroom broth, the pierogies had a lot of flavour and creaminess in each bite. The pierogies themselves were stuffed with cheese and mushrooms. 4/5 I'm not a devoted beer drinker but from what I've sipped, Jelly King and Farmageddon Cherry ale are 5 stars. They're incredibly easy to drink, smooth, no funk, and nice fruit with citrus notes that are not too overwhelming. Jutsu, Cat Lady, and Roman Candle are also good beers... but just not our favourite. Great local spot and I love how you can support a great Toronto microbrewery directly. Fun atmosphere and I see why there's a huge wait all the time. Wow Bellwoods certainly have upped their game with their beers recently and I am quite impressed! Love the new Witchshark and Goblin Juice double IPAs. And prices are quite reasonable considering it hasn't changed much relative to other places. A great place to hang out at their awesome patio in the hip Ossington area. Gord and I went to a tasters event on Sunday at Bellwoods Brewery. Since then, they have had a "soft" opening. We stopped in last night to check it out. I liked the ambiance. The lights were low and there were candles and flowers on the tables. We had a table by the sliding door in front. Hungry? They serve an interesting array of food. You can order a glass of wine if you don't feel like beer. had my favourite, the Bellwoods Common. Brewers Luke and Mike were there tonight and stopped by to say hello and chat. One of the prettiest patios in the city. Not only is it a patio but also a brewery- the two go hand in hand well on a day with great weather. This place is open strictly in the evening and not open during the day, regardless arrive at 5 or early or you will be waiting for a seat! Patio seats aren't guaranteed as the influx of customers is constant and patio is granted on first come first serve. Affordable and unique foods (5-8$ applies $ 12-18$ mains), however the main attraction here is of course their beers. What I like about this place is they offer 4oz beers ranging from 2.50-4$!! No free tasters but it's worth the small price if you get curious. You're seriously going to want to try all their beers , they're unique and there's something for everyone's liking. They also offer delicious ciders and wines, and kombucha for non alcoholic drinkers but these are pricey ranging from 8-20$. I tried 4 different beers here , all of which seemed to taste the same but some hoppier than others. Majority of their beers have a fruitier base to it which I enjoy greatly. Food wise- everything we got was okay at most. All plates were romanced well in he menu but did not deliver in taste. I had the chickpea salad which lacked flavour. I would NOT recommend the squid as it was highly disappointing- bland. And the cod sandwich was not anything amazing. The appies are better thank god! Would recommend the flat bread which had the most amazing dip & the deep fried tofu was excelled as well. 4 stars because the service was VERY underwhelming. Our server never smiled and didn't seem to like her job. She was not enthusiastic and did the bare minimum. Absolutely disappointing for a place with so much potential. However this won't stop me from coming back as the other servers seemed nice and the place is quite enjoyable. read more
