"STUDENT REVIEW"I was a student at Bellus Academy and just recently graduated. If you're looking for a beauty school to apply to you might want to reconsider your options with this school. Especially if you're looking to be an esthetician and your ethnicity is something other than white. Your might also want to be "cool" if you want to go here. The educators pick and choose who they want to be friendly with depending on ones status of popularity. A lot of the time if you have questions you get treated like your stupid and have no right asking. There is an educator named Christie in the esthetician department and she is awful! Christie has a bad attitude daily, never approachable and will turn your day into a day you wanna erase from your life . It was hard going to a school that you don't want to be at every day): We students pay thousands of dollars to go here, like as in $18,000 and you get treated like you're aliterate and scum. Today was my first time at Bellus Academy and Nancy Castillo did my highlights and cut! I didn't know what to expect but so far it's been an easy process. The atmosphere is boutique like, unlike Paul Mitchell where it is busy and hectic. There is tons of parking in the area, and it's an easy drive from central San Diego. There is a bit of a wait time when doing color but nothing too drastic. My hair lightened to the prettiest color, and I am so excited to see the final results! Bellus Academy is outstanding. It truly is. My stylist, Kimberly is very kind, patient, understanding and she works harder faster and she put more effort into trying to make my hair the way I want it to look. At Bellus my hair usually turns out very beautiful. Professional and professional color for $35.00 total. You get both for $35.00. I am very disappointed today. While my color does look very beautiful my stylist did not get enough help and there was also a big meeting. She was walking back and forth saying I will be right back over and over again. Which while Kimberly is a student she still needs help as a part of the learning process. Every human does. Something that made me feel sad and angry is that a student at the salon said every time she asks her teacher, Danielle for help, Danielle ignores her. My mother sensed that she is negative as well. I was going to have my hair toned from a warm blond to a cool tone. Another teacher Todd previously came in at the beginning of my appointment and he said just put the bleach in sections of her hair and not all because it would be uneven. Then Danielle said don't do it Kim is going home. I CANT BLAME KIM. Danielle said no one will be here until 5 o'clock and you will need to come schedule another appointment to have your ends bleached. I got my hair cut and more brown. Thanks to Kim I look gorgeous. I am hesitant to attend Bellus Poway again because I feel negative vibes sometimes. The redheaded receptionist charged my debit card $40.00 without asking me for a tip AND I left with dye around my hairline. I gave it to Bellus. When a person goes to a hair salon they are paying to have their hair styled the way asked for. I also was saddened that people seemed vulnerable. I have been to Bellus Academy as a client, so I cannot comment on them as a cosmetology school. Based on my experiences as a client, they offer many salon quality treatments and services at more than half off. One major word to the wise is be patient. The students work cautiously, which is understood because they are learning. Also they have to have checks with their instructors at very specific points which can take some time. So make sure to allow yourself some extra time when going here. And lastly, come with a clear descriptions or photos of what you want to do be done. I found out about Poway-Bellus Academy from a friend whose classmates needed models for Shampoo/Blow-Dry services. There's nothing I love more than being pampered, so needless to say I was very eager to volunteer (what mother of 2 wouldn't want to escape from home on a Saturday morning to let someone else do her hair?) Everyone was very nice and friendly, I saw LAUREN. She started with a consultation; I have very fine hair, and not much of it, so I asked for a volumizing style with curls that started halfway down my hair length . We moved over to the shampoo stations where she massaged my scalp, it was so relaxing. My scalp tingled some due to the peppermint in the product, it smelled and felt really refreshing! We decided to skip the deep conditioning treatment since I really wanted to get some volume, instead she used the Sebastian Whipped Cream mousse to give my strands a shiny healthy look. She didn't pressure me into buying anything. Lauren has the most gentlest hands ever! I had to glance towards the mirror a few times to see if she was actually doing anything to my hair, I think my 4 year old would LOVE to have Lauren brush her hair :) She finished me off with a small and simple side braid (pictured below). I had a facial (microdermabration) the evening of July 11th. When I woke up the next morning I had so many scratches on my face that I decided to stop by the salon and adress the issue. This was not my first microderm, and apparently the lady that did my treatment (Jane ) was experienced. Anyway, I got to speak with the "instructor", and she was very impolite. First of all during our conversation she kept saying that the scrutches are bizarre and she looked at me untrustfuly and treated the problem as a lie... she did not wanted to accept the fact that this was done by one of their staff. She did not show any compassion or even apologize for the "damage". Not saying that she should probably offer me a restorative treatment or something. I will not spend my time or money to go there and have my face messed up. Probably they should pay people to have their faces dameged by the students in training. read more

I've come here total of six times for different services; a few facials, a massage, and most recently a color touch-up. The facials have been inconsistent, two were very brief (should have been 45 minutes to an hour and mine lasted 25 minutes at most), and service itself was average; last facial I had was from a girl nearing graduation from the program and she was great! My skin was glowing! I was nervous about getting my hair done here, but the young lady who did my hair did a better job than my very pricey usual colorist, so pretty happy about that. I have been going to Bellus Academy for several years. I typically get massages or facials, and I find the students who provide the services to be very professional. They are very knowledgeable as well. They should be, since they usually are close to graduating. They are near or on par with seasoned massage therapists or estheticians. The best part is they cost a lot less. The only bad thing is that their massages can be fully booked for weeks. You may not find an opening for maybe three weeks, so call to schedule in advance. read more
