I've been going to Dr. Clark for about 7 years now. I used to go to Costco optical but it was starting to feel a bit like a factory going there and wasn't very personal. That is to be expected from a high volume place, but an eye doctor is after all a healthcare provider so I wanted something that felt more like my family physician. A friend recommended Dr. Clark and even though he's not at all in my geography (I live in West Seattle and work in Redmond) I gave him a shot. I will say he has been fantastic. His "bedside manner" is awesome. He's always willing to take the time to explain to me what he's looking at and why with as much or as little detail as I want. I really like that, it shows me that he is actually concerned about my eyesight and I'm not just a cog in his machine to sell glasses to. As I've grown older and started a family has become our family eye doctor. It really feels just like our primary care doc. He remembers our names and recognizes us when we walk in. He is awesome with my two young boys who can be a bit "energetic" at times. As for glasses & contacts, he's got a decent selection of frames to look at in store. I haven't yet had an occasion where I've wanted a specific frame and he didn't have a sample for me to look at, but I'm sure if I did have a specific frame in mind he didn't carry he'd be able to get me what I was looking for by ordering it. I've always received pretty quick turnaround whenever getting new glasses or contacts. Generally less than a week, some times a bit more but that was my experience with Costco too so I think that is kind of normal. I do wish he'd move his practice closer to West Seattle so it would be more convenient for my family to get to appointments, but he's still good enough that we're willing to put up with the "Mercer Mess" to get to his office. read more

Last year, I moved back to Seattle and needed to find a new optometrist so I selected Belltown Vision as it's close to my office. As someone who has been wearing glasses since the 3rd grade and contacts since the 5th, I'm no stranger to optometrist visits and have been to quite a few different doctors over the past nearly 20 years. My first concern was during the check-up in which I could barely see any of the showed slides (A or B? 1 or 2?) clearly, and felt they didn't have much distinction between one another. I've never experienced this before and didn't feel much confidence with the process. Afterwards, the doctor told me something along the lines of "Well, I don't know whether I should trust you or not" - maybe jokingly? but was weird to say in general. He set my prescription as 3.75 when I've been steadily 4.25 for quite some time. His explanation was that I might have been overcorrected in the past, which might have been fine had I felt I could even see anything during the exam. I'd also been prescribed 4.25 by more than 1 doctor in the past. I also expressed concern that I might have dry eye as my eyes would feel burning/dry sensations almost every day. He told me that he didn't like when patients WebMD'd themselves and that I probably didn't have dry eye, but that it was most likely my contact lens solution. I told him this happened even when I wasn't wearing contacts to which he responded, "Oh okay, you probably have dry eye then." For the week following, the prescribed contacts were very obviously not doing it for me and things were blurry. I came back for a follow-up and asked him to re-do the prescription. He didn't seem very happy to do so and during the check-up even told me that there was "a difference between something being sharper and darker". I'm definitely not a doctor, but if the patient says they can see something clearer then.. ? He ended up putting me back at my original prescription. Recently got a call from the receptionist to schedule my annual check-up, which is what reminded me to write this review from my experience last year; needless to say, I won't be re-scheduling. read more

Called and ended up speaking with Maria about fixing nose pads on a pair of sunglasses, all they needed was a couple of screws. She said bring them by and she would look at them......when I stopped in she, without hesitation, said she will look in her stock to see if she could fix them...she found the parts and fixed them in her spare time at no charge. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.....any other optometry store can do better Within an hour: they had the wrong date for my contact fitting appointment, they had me put on my contacts for the fitting, waited 20 minutes and then I was told that I will have to come back as the contacts needed to be on for a couple of hours.....why not telling me that from the beginning! My prescription glasses were ready and didn't even call me to advise to pick them up. I ordered a pair of diesel glasses and thy gave me a Guess case.....really? I ordered glasses and I was told someone will contact me to let me know they were ready to picked, and the phone call never took place. I found out they were ready while putting my contact on earlier today. The glasses were what I ordered but they were missing the magnetic shades which I ordered originally with the glasses. On a nut shell: Making an appointment was a process and they don't respond as fast possible. The order for prescription glasses and magnetic shades was wrong Waisted my time during the "contact fitting" Making appointments, orders, and fittings take a long time The front desk lady is very nice but forgetful. She even posted a fingers to the optometrist while I was listing all of the errors made.....unacceptable! The day before we were leaving for a two week cruise, I broke the frames of my prescription progressive glasses at 3 PM. We are from Texas and knew nothing about the area our hotel was located in. With the help of the Internet we found Belltown vision which was close by. I called and spoke with Maria and she was most helpful. She suggested I come to their facility, gave me directions- 5 minute walk. They examined my old frames and declared them Non-repairable. They searched thru their stock and located a suitable replacement frame at a reasonable price. They installed the lenses from the old glasses and did not charge me for the labor. Tremendous service- above and beyond the call of duty! They saved our vacation! read more

Avoid this place as much as you can. Doctor is okay but the front desk lady was very rude and not organized. Moved to Seattle from another state and wanted to get contact lenses backfilled. Dr.Clark did the exam and provided test lenses. It works okay and we had another followup. Then moving forward to order contact lenses. I was always qualified for medically necessary in my previous prescriptions and this lady just refused my request right away without checking anything. Agreed to call back but never got any call. If you're looking for an eye doctor in a great Belltown location, this office fits the bill. Dr. Christopher Clark is actually really friendly and nice. But that's where the good ends. This place can only be described as disorganized and frustrating, and I'll never go back. My initial appointment had me waiting in the waiting room for over 30 minutes past my appointment time. After a good appointment with the doctor, I left excited about a new kind of contact he recommended and to order new glasses. I called in a few weeks after my appointment to get a copy of my contact RX so I could order a new pair. A rude girl told me she had no record of a contact lens exam on file. I cited the date of my appointment and charge on my credit card and insurance. She told me I hadn't come in for a contact exam, I came in for a glasses exam. I explained that I told the doctor I needed both, and she told me That if I needed a contact RX that I would need to come in for another appointment. I rolled my eyes chalking it up as a miscommunication, and made a contact exam and fitting appointment. I called a few days before the appointment to verify the time. The receptionist told me she had no record of any scheduled appointment on file. So I made another appointment. I showed up to my appointment and the receptionist was out. The doctor greeted me but seemed very confused because apparently my appointment wasn't scheduled on their books. He kindly saw me, which I appreciated, but by now I was pretty much over this place. During my appointment I made it clear I needed to walk away with a contact and glasses RX that day. I ordered contacts and took my RXs. I left vowing never to go near that disorganized office again. A few weeks later I ordered glasses through another vendor and sent them my glasses RX. The vendor contacted me prior to sending my glasses to the lab because they noticed my RX had an unusually high PD listed. ("Normal" is around 65; my RX showed 173.) Begrudgingly, I contacted the office once more to see why my PD was off. The snotty receptionist told me that the PD listed wasn't the real PD. That if I wanted the real PD to order glasses through another vendor, I needed to come back in and have it measured. Are. You. Kidding. Me?!?! This place is soooo disorganized. I don't know if they mean to make things difficult so that you're forced to place all orders through them, or if they just don't have their act together. Either way, they quickly lost my business and I've told my friends to steer clear. Save yourself 4 trips and get it all done at once with a real office. Advice from your patients: 1. Hire friendly front desk staff. 2. That know how to use your appointment booking system. 3. And don't make your services more of a hassle than they're worth. STAY AWAY!. I went to this place a few years ago because it was close to my work and ended up leaving as I was turned off by my interaction with them. Recently I needed to get a retinal exam - as I've recently been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and figured I'd try again - they were close and took my insurance. When I went in for a retinal eye exam - which I had called about prior to going - I found the receptionist to be kind of rude and full of attitude. When I was having the actual exam she was shoving my head against the machine - with no real care for what she was doing. They told me they would have the results in my email in 24 hours and when nothing came I called them after the weekend on a Monday and got no reply. Called them again on Wednesday - spoke to someone who apologized said they had a staff change over and they'd call me back that day. After not hearing back from them again I called and got a new person who said the Dr was now out for a emergency and they would get back to me the following week. When I told her my story she was not really apologetic but more told me about how they were making staff changes over there and I should call back Monday. ..... so Monday goes by no call. When I call again at the end of the day I once again need to explain my situation and am told I would get the results that night. No response Monday followed by a Tuesday email that says I now need my Doctor's approval to get the results - which I had cleared with them before I went in and at the appointment time. So at this point I kind of lost it with the person who answered the phone. I explained to her that I had pre-negotiated the retinal eye exam, that I would get the results as I am seeing multiple doctors currently with a new diabetes diagnosis and she tells me there is nothing she can do. At this point I lose it - something I don't normally do. Anyhow, Friday comes and I hear from my doctor who is appalled to tell me that Dr. Clark had told her I was far too much trouble he never wants to hear from me again and has deleted my results. She told him that hardly sounded like me... but this comes from a man who I never met in the process but who had told the receptionist on the original date that I could have my results emailed back to me. The front desk staff was wonderful, it was Dr. Clark who I found not to be very friendly and the cause of me not returning. He rushed me through the appointment (after being about 20 min late & the gal at the front desk having to start my exam). He didn't create a kind of atmosphere where I wanted to ask questions rather he finished the exam then was almost annoyed that I didn't need a strong perscription. Decent doctor. Horrible business practices. They take your money for full and then delay your prescription glasses for weeks. You should absolutely not fork out even a dime of your money on buying any lenses or glasses for this establishment. On top of that, they never bothered to reimburse me. I called Dr. Clark's office to make an appointment the same day due to severe eye problems. I was told to come in at 11:15am. I arrived at 11:15am. I waited until 12pm. I finally left because I was not seen after I was told at 11:36am it would be 10 more minutes. I saw another eye doctor and was told today that I had an infection in my left eye that has now spread to my right eye. I've missed 1/2 a day of work and now am suffering from dual eye infections which could have been prevented if Dr. Clark had seen me at the 11:15am appointment time that was made. I do NOT recommend this office. I expressed being displeased and their unprofessionalism when I was at the office last week. I also sent an email. Dr. Clark has never called me. Instead the man with a British accent who sells sunglasses called me to apologize. He was selling sunglasses when I was there and didn't care about the fact I was sitting in the lobby with swollen left cornea, discharge and water coming out of my eye. Dr. Clark's office is extremely unprofessional and had their been permanent damage to my eye I would pursue a claim against him. In their defense, I only get my eyes checked every two years, so I am not an "expert" on how to get what you want from an optometrist. It took an insane amount of times to fit my contacts, I had to go back over 5 times. I've been wearing contacts for almost 30 years (daily wear for over 5 years) and there was no significant change to my prescription. Then I found out that the recommended contacts are twice the price than the ones I could have gotten from Costco. And they won't change my contact prescription so that i can get my dailies filled at Costco. Sigh. Frustrating. read more

Dr Clark is a caring, knowledgeable and professional in his optometry practice. I had an eye exam and contact lens fitting with him about five months ago. Today, I walked into the office to ask for a print out of my prescription, and shared that I was in need of a contact lens for my right eye only. The front desk staff and Dr Clark quickly remedied my situation by locating a trial lens for my right eye plus a spare lens! Their swift willingness to help me was HUGE. I would describe a sensation I had in my eye and knowing the kind of contacts I wear, he took a look at the curvature of my eye and explained to me why that is, and we easily fixed a problem that was bothering me for years that other doctors didn't bother with. He's was very attuned to making sure I have exactly what I want and helping me decide on what would best accomplish my needs. I never waited more than a couple minutes, and the office has great Fung Shui, lots of interesting styles to look at, and a comfortable lounge area. All in all, I felt very taken care of. My first time here and the staff was great. Easy location and parking was good plus they had a garage in the bldg. as well. Professional,friendly and very helpful. Dr Clark was nice and professional also. He answered any questions I had and took his time to explain them to me in detail. The people, the facilities, the service and knowledge here were all great. Carol, the receptionist and lab assistant, was kind and patient and good-humored using all of the screening equipment, which was cutting-edge in terms of technology. Then, Dr. Clark was energetic and attentive, a good listener who was eager to explain what he was doing and what was going on with my vision. He was a good communicator in telling me how to give him the feedback he needed to assess my prescription. It was actually a lot of fun, and I didn't expect it to me so much fun. Once we had a prescription for me, Paul knew what lenses would look good on me better than I did. Paul picked out three frame choices before I was even out of Dr. Clark's office, each for different lifestyle needs. I was waiting for a ride and spent almost an hour exploring the frame stock and trying other options, before I eventually decided that Paul had gotten it right on. I got a durable and stylish pair of glasses that will survive my activities. They look great and cool and express my personality without stealing attention from the rest of me. The staff didn't put pressure on me to buy my frames at their location, even though Paul was ready, he was kind and understanding that I might, for budget reasons, decide to order my frames online or at a discount shop. I got what I thought was accurate advice about the pros and cons of those choices, because some of the suggestions they made were NOT to the benefit of their business. That kind of personal care (seeing the big picture and serving the customer's needs first) is the kind of care I want, so I will be back and will be referring friends. The only downside was the same downside that happens at EVERY lens lab in December: everyone and their uncle Margaret is trying to spend out their FSA flex-medical accounts, so the labs get backed up on filling orders. I don't think it was Belltown Vision's fault that the underestimated the date that my glasses would be ready. They assured me they would call when the frames were ready, and they did so. I can understand people have different experiences, but mine was great here. I walked in and was taken care of quickly, everyone was organized. They managed to figure out the snafu with my insurance and explained it to me, called them on my behalf, and got it straightened out quickly so I could fit the exam in within my lunch break. It all "flowed" even though I wasn't the only patient there at the time. This isn't your run of the mill eye-wear shop, there's art on the walls. Things here are fashionable and fit many different styles - not just for rock stars or just for office types, but definitely something for everyone, even those with edgier tastes. The optician know his stuff too, I walked out really happy with the frames I chose. I don't know, maybe some folks who had bad experiences came in on an off day (they mentioned something about staff changes in their reviews, maybe that was why). Everyone I saw there was friendly and professional, I have no complaints. They really run their practice well in my opinion, I'm sticking with them from now on. read more

This review is reflective of both my impression of this business and of optometrists in general. I called to make an appointment to renew my contacts prescription and the woman was rude. I won't go into the details -- just trust me. Then later I showed up for my appointment and spoke with the receptionist. From her less-than-cordial demeanor I surmised she was the rude woman I spoke to on the phone earlier. I asked if I could only get the service that allows me to get new contacts. I told her I did not want all the extra tests. I explained that I just needed a prescription for contacts. She was extremely rude to me and told me to leave. Begin rant. Why is there a law that makes it illegal for me to buy contacts without a recent (within 2 years) prescription from an optometrist? These tests are expensive, lengthy and annoying (e.g., you know, those sudden harsh puffs of air). And why do optometrists require particular tests even when I don't want them? I just want new contacts. I want the same prescription I've had for over ten years. It's unethical to force a test upon a patient. I just want new contacts. I know my prescription. Why do I need to waste time and money just so an optometrists can say, "Yes, your eyes are exactly the same as they were last year. I've conducted every possible test. You may now buy lenses." If a patient does not want a test, it is usually unethical to mandate it. Basically, in order for me to see (I'm fairly blind without lenses), I must be subjected to expensive useless tests. You might be thinking: "Hey weirdo, why not just get the tests?" I don't like the tests. They're uncomfortable. I don't need a glaucoma test every two years since I have no symptoms and eye disease does not run in my family. This would be like your family doctor mandating an STD test every two years even though you know you're in a monogamous relationship -- yes, you have a risk of contracting an STD but it is not likely. And since when do we make it law that patients must receive an exam for a particular disease? Don't we have the right to choose? I understand that it's ethical to mandate periodic exams under some circumstances, e.g., if unmonitored, lithium (for bipolar) can become toxic and cause serious side effects. But patients are normally able to make their own decisions about most exams, e.g., brain imaging for migraines. However, it is the law that I cannot buy contacts or glasses without a full exam within the past two years. This anti-consumer, pro-lobbyist, and just plain weird. Rant over. read more

I wish I had checked out the reviews prior to going. I chose this place as it was near my workplace and conveinent. I will not go there again. I had to wait 25-30 minutes on four occasions even though I had appointment for each one. The doctor was very quick and didn't really listen to what I was saying. I requested daily contacts prescription, as well as bi-monthly he recommended. He forgot to write the daily prescriptions. After I realized, I re-requested the dailys as well (for backpacking and hiking, they are simplier to use). The receptionist gave me a hard time, but I told her that he had said he would. I finally got both prescriptions. I attempted to fill both of my prescriptions at Costco and they inform me the prescriptions are different from each other (two different strengths, L 2.75 and R 1.75 one set and the other 3.0 and 2.0). I called the office to figure out which one was correct and they try and tell me that is what I requested. Why would I want two different prescription strengths? I fill the accurate one 2.75/1.75 and request the Dr. to write a new prescription for the dailys. I still haven't heard back from them after two requests. I am going to another doctor to get my eyes tested again because it is not worth the hassle of trying to get Dr. Clark to fix the situation. read more

Feeling Angry for their service. I came few month ago to switch the lens because it covered by my insurance, their attitude is super cold, but I still left my frame there. However, when I went back to pick up the glasses. I noticed that new lens is not exactly fits my frame. What's more, my old frame is partially damaged. Terrible experience with Belltown based on a lack of attention to detail, relatively dated technologies and subsequent wrong prescription. I'm going to try to keep this short. He diagnosed me with a 1.75 Irregular astigmatism. Glasses hurt my brain so I went back for an adjustment. He just dropped it back to 1.5. I told him it was better but it still hurt my eyes. He said, Irregular astigmatism cannot be corrected to perfection and this is as good as its going to get. Dealt with it for a year. Went back for another checkup and same thing; 1.75 diagnosis, tried it and went back and he dialed it back to 1.5. Get used to it. 6 months later i randomly put my glasses on upside-down. Amazingly, I could see clearer looking through my left lens with my right eye than the lens he prescribed me. Whats up with that? Time for a second opinion. Lenscrafters-attached optometrist gave me a .5 (1.25 LESS) irregular astigmatism and on a different axis. Extremely large difference. I just got my new pairs of glasses and FINALLY I CAN SEE. They are so obviously better, it is amazing how far off Belltown was. To sum it up, spending $1,000 on glasses/sunglasses on a bunk prescription is not a good use of money, nor the headaches his wildly wrong prescription gave me. Luckily I bought Lenscrafters insurance and so they switched things to the proper prescription for just $60. Oh ya, and he makes you wait forever and rushes you through the exam. Cramming as many patients in to increase profits maybe? *Side-note, not meaning to be an endorsement, but in comparison, Lenscrafters technologies (accuexam), tests, customer service, etc. was worlds better than Belltown's standard and rushed eye exam of just letters. read more

I had my yearly exam scheduled and went for it. While with the doctor I asked for a prescription for glasses. Once finished Che king my eyes and writing the glasses prescription the doctor handed me off to the front desk to pay. The annual visit charge was mostly covered by my insurance. Right after paying I asked the person behind the front desk if the prescription for glasses was also valid for contact lenses, and she told me that it wasn't and that I needed to come back another day to get a prescription for contact lenses. I asked if I could get it done right at that moment since I was already there. First I was told that that I couldn't because there was another patient waiting ( the other patient was someone from my family) and also because they would close after that. Afterwards the staff asked the doctor, and the doctor agreed to take me back to the room to get the contact lenses prescription (this was only 2 minutes after he had handed me off to the front desk to pay). The contact lenses prescription took 3 additional minutes to write. When I came back I thanked the person at the front desk for accommodating me and she surprised me with: " there will be an additional charge for that though". The charge was of 105$! While I am grateful that the doctor agreed to write the contact lenses prescription, I find it a very bad business practice to tell the patient about the cost of the service after the service is performed. Specially when the process to get the glasses and contact lenses prescription is practically the same... and specially when it was pretty logical to think that it would all be covered under the same visit. If I would have known that the contact lenses prescription, was going to be charged as a completely different thing I wouldn't have gotten it. Very dissatisfied with the lack of upfront clarity. This is the most unique eye clinic I've ever been to. It definitely lacks that dull, sterile vibe others seem to possess. The staff is amazing and everyone has a ton of personality (especially the two ladies) which makes my annual visits very enjoyable. The decor is full of character and the selection of glasses is unbeatable! I'm constantly getting compliments on my frames. When it's time to buy new ones, I know I can count of everyone there to be honest about how they look. I can guarantee that no one will walk out of there with a pair of unflattering glasses. From a professional standpoint, Dr. Clark is very knowledgeable and I definitely feel comfortable with him as my eye doctor. Paul is always available if I ever drop in unannounced and need my glasses adjusted. Maggie and Libby do their best to make you feel at home and are both very knowledgeable about the various insurance plans. I'm not sure what happened with M.C., but the last time I was there I had to wait longer than expected. After my exam, the girls apologized for the wait and readily comped a substantial portion of my bill. I highly recommend Belltown Vision. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Clark for at least 18 years. A few times (out of stupidity & convenience), I went to another doctor. Big mistake. Dr. Clark gets it right. He is quick, accurate and super nice. I won't go anywhere else. read more

Dr. Clark told me he was a Pediatric eye doctor during my visit and so I made an appointment for my three year old son. His staff was unprepared for my 3 year old, they did know he was three when I scheduled the appointment. They scheduled him for the full hour, not knowing that a three year old cannot do most of the tests. I had to adjust the eye testing machine so that he could see the hot air balloon properly. After waiting 45 minutes with a three year old loose in a room full of frames and other breakable items, I was rudely told by the receptionist that EVERY person should expect to be at the doctor's office for 1 hour. When I tried to tell her that a three year old does not need every test and so should be scheduled differently she just repeated herself. Once I got in to see Dr. Clark, he was wonderful, but I won't go again because his staff was so unprepared and rude. read more

I have been going to Belltown Vision for over 3 years now. I appreciate the later hours that are offered and how efficient the staff is when I'm there. Went in yesterday for my annual eye exam - was in and out in about 30 minutes after all tests were done. Dr Clark is extremely attentive and the entire staff is very friendly and helpful. I also love that I can always find a great deal on designer sunglasses (no Rx) - esp Tom Fords!!! read more

Both of my sons have been patients of Dr Clark for years and have found that he has always given us great information in regards to our individual situations. His current staff is very friendly and helpful. Carolyn the receptionist is very cheerful, and informative. Jennifer was really patient when she taught my son how to put on contacts. Dr Clark told me at my eye exam that if I decided in the next couple of months to come back for a contact fitting it "wouldn't be anything extra" because I wouldn't need to do a full eye exam. When I went to my contact fitting, two weeks later, I wasn't charged. When I went to my follow-up contact fitting, I was told that they forgot to charge me the week before. Maybe what Dr Clark meant is that I wouldn't have to do anything in addition to the contact fitting, but it sounded to me like it was included in the eye exam. They didn't waive the fee due to the miscommunication and now I can't use any of my insurance to cover contacts. I had recommended someone to go to this office, but I won't be returning and will discourage people from going there. read more
