I have been using Belltown Dog Walker since a year now for my 2.5 year old Golden Retriever - Simba. Jack is very well organized in his work and responds to messages about any special needs very quickly. On one occasion, I asked Jack to schedule the walk in the evening and give food to Simba, and he made that happen as well. He has assigned a dog walker - Matt who is very regular and provides an update about the walk all the time. I've been Jack's client for over a year now. I first met Jack when I just moved to Seattle from Dallas and needed to find someone to take care of my English Springer Spaniel during the day while I was at work. Previously I worked close enough to come home to walk her, so it was my first experience with trying to find a regular dogwalker. Dear Yelpers, I've had my dog for 9 years and never thought I'd have to leave him at home by himself. To say that I was a nervous wreck when I had to leave him ALONE FOR 4 DAYS, is well, quite an understatement. My husband and I just moved to Seattle about 5 months ago and prior to that, we were surrounded by friends and family who would gladly watch our dog when we went on vacation. There was never a worry in my mind because I knew he'd be well taken care of. When we found out that we had to go out of state for 4 days to attend a wedding, we weren't quite sure what to do since we were both friend-less and family-less in our new State. The only options we had were to either board him or leave him with a stranger on dogvacay. I wasn't too keen either ideas because I knew he wouldn't cope very well in an unfamiliar area with unfamiliar faces. In fact, I took him two boarding places just to see if they could possibilities for him and he completely. freaked. out. I knew the best option would be to leave him at home where he would be the most comfortable with his surroundings and hire someone to come over to take him out for potty breaks and refill his food and water. That's when I stumbled upon Belltown Dog Walker. Jack answered my call right away and we were able to set up a consultation immediately. He came over to our apartment that weekend and was introduced to our pup, who by the way, immediately fell in love with Jack. I showed him where I kept the pup's toys, leash and food and he took notes of everything I said. He said that Joey would be taking care of my pup for the days we'd be gone. He was scheduled to come over twice a day for 15 minute walks. The day that we left our pup, I was distraught. I couldn't even wrap my mind around having a good time just knowing that our dog might be lonely. Just as I was starting to reach an all time low, I received a picture of Joey playing with my dog. The pup was obviously very, very happy in the picture. I felt so relieved. The next few days were a breeze; I was finally able to relax! Joey sent me photos via text message and kept me up to date with the pup's well-being. When we were finally reunited with our pup after 4 long days, I could tell he was very well taken care of. He was full of energy and his belly was round, meaning he actually ate his food! I can't say how delighted we are to have trusted Jack and his team to walk our puggle, Bella, during the day. We were super hesitant to hire a dog-walked when I started a 9-5 after working from home (Bella can be very nervous and anxious) but Jeff -- our walker -- leaves notes after every walk letting us know that Bella pee'd, pooped and was "Great." When there has been an issue -- we think Bella stubbed one of her paws a few weeks ago -- Jeff texted my husband and left a long note that she seemed to be in slight pain. We kept an eye on her for a few days during our evening walks, which we normally wouldn't have if Jeff hadn't been so attentive. I've also come home from work a few days early and run into Jeff with Bella, and so I can attest how well he treats her. He also explained to me personally how he caters his walks to her needs (bringing her water bowl, etc) and cutting walks short when it got really hot. When the weather is normal, he's also super good about making sure she gets a full hour of exercise (which we can track with her Whistle) -- so we really appreciate how great he is with Bella. We can't recommend Jack and Belltown Dog Walkers highly enough. They communicate very thoroughly and make sure Bella -- and us! -- are taken care of. When I met Jack, the owner, he came by in advance to meet our dog, bring his documentation, insurance information, and to explain the process. He takes it seriously and screens his employees. After Jack found out that my building would not let him have a key and required it to be checked out by concierge, he just flat old told me he would not help me and dropped me like an old pair of shoes... A day and a half before my husband was to leave town!!! He left me in a situation where I had to rush and find someone to walk my dogs during my 12 hour shifts. This was beyond unprofessional not to mention completely heartless. Is your dog being walked? Good Question. I found this service looking for a dog walker to do some spot walks for my 7 month old puppy while we went out of town, and perhaps more regular walks depending on how our experience went. It was very easy to set up our initial appointment, and scheduling could not be better. We found the rates to be very reasonable, and thought his would be a great alternative to boarding. We live in a building downtown with a "24-hr concierge", and not being comfortable giving a key to someone that we weren't sure if we were going to have recurring services with, we opted to leave our spare key with our doorman, and have the dog walker pick up/drop off before and after every walk. The dog walker that was assigned to us cautioned us that this could lead to our dog not getting walked if the concierge was away when he came by, but we would be notified via email if that were the case. We understood, and were willing to take that risk and be responsible for the charges it if that were the case. The Saturday walks went well, despite a 15 minute wait, for access to my unit for a 30 minute walk at 3:30 PM. My puppy was walked for the balance of the time, as stipulated in our first meeting. He came back at 7:30PM for the scheduled 10 minute walk, and actually gave him a longer 25 minute walk. After hearing this, we were surprised, and went to sleep as very satisfied customers. On Sunday, the walker arrived for the 30 minute on time at 3:30 PM. Unfortunately, due to a communication error on my end, the concierge wasn't available to hand off the keys until 3:35 PM. The walker took my puppy for a walk, returned and left the building at 3:48 PM as noted by the concierge. Maybe it was raining (their contract says that if weather is bad the walk may be shortened, but the walker will play with your dog for the balance of the time). Even though he left 12 minutes early, I was OK with this, since he did give my puppy a longer walk the night before. My concierge confirmed with the walker that his next walk was at 7:30 PM, and that he would make it a point to be there. The walker never showed up. I never got notified. I only found out because my concierge notified me when I returned from my trip at 10:30 PM that night. I waited until the next morning to email the walker to find out what happened. Only then did I get a message from him saying he stopped by and couldn't get in, and that he had simply left. I reviewed the surveillance video for the front door and the lobby of my building with my building's security, and verified that he never arrived between 7PM and 9PM. Also verified was that the concierge never left the front desk between 7 PM and 7:58 PM. I may never know what happened to the walker that night, but what I do know is that there was no effort made to contact me that the walk had "failed" so I could make other arrangements for my puppy. If we had returned the next morning, we would be looking at over 15 hours alone without a bathroom break for a 7 month puppy. Luckily, that wasn't the case. My puppy was happier then ever when we came back from my trip. I understand that it is frustrating to try and gain entry to the building because my doorman happened to be away during the scheduled times, but not notifying me that you were unable or unwilling to perform the final walk showed a lack of professionalism that really just ended up punishing my 7 month old puppy. I spoke with the owner, and was assured that this was not an acceptable experience and received a refund for that last walk. Despite the gesture, I will have to think long and hard about using this service again in the future. read more
