My wife and I recently discovered Bell's Ice Pops at the food truck rally earlier in July. While some people aren't fans of the rallies because of somewhat valid arguments about the lines and that people should just go to the trucks regularly anyway, I find that they're a great way to sample new trucks, or ones that don't visit peninsular Halifax since I'm carless.
After stuffing our gobs with tacos and some other delicious foods from vendors on wheels, we were looking for something dessert-y when we spotted the re-painted Dickie Dee cart that is Bell's. There were several tempting selections of hand-made, preservative free pops, but I had to try the peach iced tea, while my other half went for the key lime pie. At just $3 a pop (literally), they're a steal, in my opinion.
My peach iced tea had a refreshing tea flavour, although the peach was more subdued than I would have liked. Structurally it held up really well, never being in danger of crumbling and falling off the stick. My wife's key lime pie pop was the clear winner though. With a crumble coating and smooth, limey inside, it was one of the best desserts on a stick I've ever had.
Bell's made for a great finish to the food truck rally, and I'll be keeping an eye out for the cart on the streets, or go in search of them on the Street Food app. read more
