This was a staple for me while I was working at Verizon for lunch! The parking can be a little challenging, as it is in a small strip mall, with 1 angled parking, parking lot. But it does have 1 table outside, so I enjoyed sitting outside on warm days. The burgers here a excellent. I also tried their new chicken parm sandwich which was awesome!!! I usually would get a plain burger w/ american cheese and bbq sauce, and an order of mozzarella sticks....until they introduced the chicken parm sandwich!!!! The red sauce is awesome! They offer an assortment of milkshakes as well as Jones' brand fountain soda. Reasonably priced. Great value for your money, especially in Basking Ridge where prices seem to be on the higher side! I got a Bella Burger. A Bella Burger is a burger with bacon and cheddar cheese and Bella sauce. I don't know what Bella sauce is but it is good. I also got cut fries and the portion was too much for one person. The burger was on the small size by the way so it all evened out. They have a wide selection of fountain sodas. They have free WiFi so you can hang out on the Internet and post reviews to yelp while you are eating and drinking the all you can drink soda. It is in downtown Basking Ridge by the methodist church. The food is tasty but you're done with a burger in at most five minutes. They're small yet extremely costly. The fries are pretty great but also rather expensive for fries. They have a wide selection of sodas which is nice, and I've never had a particularly terrible instance with their staff. The atmosphere is also very friendly, with an obvious amount of attention paid to making the customer feel special. The only thing that really prevents me from going here often is the price to portion ratio, which is a large price to a small portion. Either way, if you're looking for a good burger and fries and don't have a problem with spending some money, this place is great. read more

What a frustrating experience. Charged my Apex for $41.50 ; no email confirmation and when I called them about this order the so called "manager" Ryan - informed me that this is MY problem - the card was charged but the order was not processed due to the card processing company. Repeated requests to trace the order - with confirmed order number- met with extremely rude responses. Never going back again. What a stupid way to lose loyal customers. Despite some of the overall good reviews and greatly decorated restaurant interior, I was left disappointed in this place. They have a vast menu which excites me, with lots of specialty burgers, sandwiches, sides & more, but when it came down to the most important thing, I was unimpressed by their burger and fries. First off, they need to flatten their patties more. They are more like a meatball than a patty. I finished the whole patty before half of the bun. This also doesn't make good for keeping your toppings on the sandwich. Flavor was there, but assembly was just off. I was glad they gave me a lot of fries, but they tasted under salted to me. I believe the perfect fry is one you don't need to add any additional salt. Do try their milkshakes though. The black and white was made with some pretty good ice cream. I'd maybe give this place one more chance, but I wouldn't come running back. read more

This used to be a great place with excellent friendly service. The food was good although some times overly salty or thrown together. But it is clear to me the teenagers running the place have become jaded and overwhelmed. Last Saturday my wife, 3 year old and I decided to end a day of strawberry picking with a burger. We were hungry and remembered Bella's. So we drove from Chester and found the restaurant with one other table occupied. We ordered from a pleasant, straight dark brown haired girl, and sat down. As I patiently waited for our food I noticed an influx of people enter and two other tables became occupied. 20 minutes had passed and being an understanding and patient customer, who knows food does take time to prepare, I waited, patiently. Watching the kitchen I noticed a tray of food move toward us, and past us to a table of 4 who came in 10 minutes after we did. Not cool. I flagged down the girl we initially ordered from and inquired about the status. She rolled her eyes up into her head and said " sorry but we are reaaaaly busy". To which I replied, " perhaps now yes, but you took my order 25 minutes ago",showed her the receipt and pointed out the tables that came in after us who had their large trays of food already. This seemed to perplex her. She took my receipt over to another girl who approach me, with receipt in hand and asked "what did you order?", as if the receipt didn't explain everything from time of order to items ordered. The girl walked away to investigate the error and returned indicating our order was "lost". So now it is 35 minutes and my family still has no food. As I explained our dissatisfaction, she kept trying to interrupt. She wasn't rude, but she wasn't making my experience any better. When an establishment messes up like this they typically do something to show they care and value the customer. Free fries for the starving crying 3 yr old perhaps? A comped meal even? I heard about Bella's a couple of years ago, but never went because it was a bit too far from me. However, I decided to get in my car and just go there, what the heck? Even with a reliable GPS, it was a bit tricky to find. I'll give you a hint how to find it...it's directly across from the library. It's in what looks like a house, not even a strip mall. It's in the corner, tucked away, and the sign above the door is hard to read. Not much parking, but I managed to find a space right in front of their door. I immediately noticed three things when I walked in: 1) The place is small. 2) Their menu is extensive. 3) They have Jones soda in their fountain. I love Jones soda. I ordered a customized burger, fries, onion rings and a soda. Toppings are free, cheese is half a buck extra. I ate in. The burger is rather small, but I expected that, because it was only five bucks. (You can double the burger for an extra two bucks. I should have.) It came on a Martin's potato roll, which I love. There was a ton of lettuce on it, most of which just fell out. The grilled onions are caramelized, so they have a deep, rich brown look. As with many burger places, the burger fell apart because of all the toppings, and because the bun wasn't toasted. It quickly became burger salad. Because of its size, I finished in just a few bites. It did have a crisp crust on it, which I do like. It's hard to find a burger joint that sears the meat so that the outside is crisp. Still, I wished the sandwich hadn't fallen apart. The fries were robust and brown, which I prefer, but they were very, very, very salty. Fortunately, the table had a bottle of malt vinegar. I love vinegar with my fries, but I used the vinegar to wash the salt off. The onion rings were not greasy, they were very crunchy, but a bit dry. Not a heck of a lot of onion flavor. The Jones soda was great. The root beer is very creamy. Lastly, the service was friendly and courteous. Young kids, polite and nice. I can't honestly say I'd drive an hour to go there again. However, If I do, I will get only onions on the burger, because everything else just slid off. I'll ask specifically for fries with no salt. If I get any salt on them whatsoever, I'll send them back. I'll pass on the onion rings. How many stars do I give Bella's? When I factor everything together, it's about average. The food itself is two stars. I'm going to give it an extra star for having Jones soda in the fountain dispenser, and for offering free refills of it, and for the service. read more

At one point I'd have given this place an honest 4. Now I'm at about a 2.5 and trending down. Bella's Burger Shack *should* be one of our favorite local places to eat, with the promise of delicious burgers, fries and other (mostly fried) treats so close to home. However, our experience eating at Bella's has been totally inconsistent, especially recently. Under the best of circumstances, Bella's serves a high quality, fresh "custom-to-order" burger, and crispy hand-cut fries and onion rings. The portions are just right and the food is flavorful without feeling overly greasy or generally "bad for you", which is quite a trick considering the menu. I'd rate it far tastier and with a better product than most of the now-ubiquitous chain burger joints out there. However, under recent circumstances, the execution has been uneven and the quality suspect. Last time we went we got undercooked burgers and cold fries (as an eat-in order). The prior visit, we got undercooked chicken. A guest of ours also tried a corn dog which was basically inedible. It's a disturbing trend, at least for us, and it stinks because we love eating locally. Plus Bella's is awesome when they are firing on all cylinders. Who knows, maybe it's staff turnover or something, but right now I have them on my "use caution" list. read more

So I found myself in Basking Ridge with one of my two kids, since we were headed off to see the other perform in his marching band at Ridge High. Anyhow, don't look for the place on Finley Ave no matter what Google Maps says: park in the lot on Maple and you're right there. Place is quaint - a few small tables, surfboard on the wall, menu on chalkboards suspended from the ceiling. It reminded me of Titos Burritos in Summit. We all ordered burgers - I ordered a cheeseburger with cheddar, bacon and mushrooms. Sides of fries and onion rings and a fountain soda. We sat and waited for our food and looked at selfie photos printed out and covering the wall (they've got a free fry promo going if you post to Facebook). The wait was fine, but the food was disappointing. Burger patty on the small side, and instead of cheddar, I ended up with what looked like mayonnaise but I think was an American cheese sauce and was tasteless. It turned off my younger son who only took a few bites of his burger (he ordered cheddar too and got the same thing). They forgot the bacon too. I liked the fries; they reminded me of Five Guys and I liked the onion rigs, though my wife did not. Sodas were good but be warned there is no diet cola, only diet root beer. Overall a mixed bag, but one additional star docked for the filthy bathroom. There were workers sitting around with nothing to do, just playing with their phones. Big fan of this place, about 10 minutes from my work. On average I stop by once or twice a month when I'm jonesing for some burgers, but not too often 'cause the man's gotta watch out for his cholesterol. Anyway, Bella's burgers hasn't disappointed me yet, I've tried all four kinds, and they're all pretty good. Now, I've had quite excellent burgers elsewhere, but Bella's burgers can hold their own. My minor beef (ha!) is that the patty's a bit small than what I'd like. But then again, if you get two, then you'd be in the $15 full service restaurant burger territory, so I guess it's not bad. Besides burgers, Bella's got other sandwiches too. I had the tuna sliders the other day, delicious! Okay, fine, sorry for getting tuna at a burger joint, geez. Anyway, I do recommend Bella's Burgers. Basking Ridge needs more food places like Bella's. Tucked behind the town center, Bella's offers great burgers and fries, as well as a variety of other sandwich options. The classic Bella burger is definitely the go to - and the slider size is just right. My only qualm with Bella's- and the reason why I'd give it four stars instead of five- is as a burger joint, it has not perfected the fast-food model yet. If you are looking to grab a burger and go, you will still have to wait a bit in the store, as it seems all the burgers are grilled by one or two cooks on one grill. On the downside, this makes for a wait time for a quick bite to eat. On the upside, it ensures that the burger is fresh. Best burger around- whether for lunch or dinner. read more

Visited this place after my wife came home raving about it one night. The burgers were good, you could tell they were made from fresh ground meat and not preformed, frozen patties. The size, for $4, left something to be desired, however. They couldn't have been more than 3oz. Fries were fresh cut and the highlight of the visit. Ample portions, good flavor and great texture were worth the $3. Chocolate shake for $5 was extremely overpriced for the size and flavor. We like this better than any other burger we've found in NJ. I would map the burger as being pretty similar to Shake Shack - obviously made with good beef, and imbued with a good flavor. Freshly cooked and fairly juicy. The Bella Burger is a pretty tasty combination of flavors. Double up if you want a really big serving, as these are not monster burgers. Also a fan of the chili dog, and we've sampled the chicken sandwich and grilled cheese with good results. read more

Bella's offers up some yummy food quickly and affordably. We love them as part of our Basking Ridge food rotation. The high points: -Their veggie burger is delicious and made in-house. -The fries are delicious and you can get half regular/half sweet potato. -Take out orders are some super quicker. I would love to see more vegan options, a veggie burger slider option, and the choice of a veggie burger on a salad, but overall, Bella's is a place I wish was around when I had been a teen growing up here. read more

High quality ingredients, delicious food, and friendly staff. I don't know what they do to the fries, but they are fresh and amazing. The best I've ever had. I have a gluten intolerance, and Bella's does the best lettuce bun. I can actually eat these burgers with my hands like a normal person! That and my soy intolerance let me know that Bella's really does use fresh ingredients without fillers because I have never gotten sick from eating their food. If you are wondering how Bella's compares to other boutique burger joints I'd say portions are smaller and less greasy than 25 Burgers (which is a welcome difference) and about the same size but tastier than 5 Guys. read more

It was my second time at Bella's Burger Shack... and this time i was on the run, so decided to get takeout. Ordered some fries, and a chicken cutlet sandwich... when the sandwich was ready, the staff person realized that the fries also needed to be cooked.... they threw them in and i guess they had to cook them quickly. When i finally got back to my car, and started driving to my next destination (enjoying lunch on the go); i grabbed some fries... they were a soggy mess. ended up eating a few and leaving the rest for the dumpster. Chicken sandwich was ok... a little dry, and i was glad that i asked for pickles with it, as that made it somewhat moist. First off, google maps is going to tell you how to get to the back side of the building. Visualize the block and take 2 left or right turns to go around to the front entrance. The burgers are simply not good. Small, not cooked to temp, generic potato bun. I went with the Bella burger, that had some kind of bad big mac sauce. Not good at all. I also ordered the onion rings, which looked great but tasted awful. The batter was over-fried and too crunchy, with an old oil taste. Bellas Burger was covered in slimy grainy "cheese sauce". As someone who cooks everyday and often gets paid to do so, the idea that melting cheese into cream was a skill beyond the brains of Bellas staff made me sad. Couple that with it's overpowering "special sauce", undercooked bacon, overcooked burger, and a chewy greasy onion ring and you've got a little (seriously, this is a small burger) pile of crap. Seriously disappointing. Fries were the only redeeming factor, as they were a Five Guys style copycat. I also had a pulled pork slider that made me gag - covered in more grainy cheese sauce and tasting more like the slimy "bbq" you get from a tub in the refrigerator section of the grocery store. He had the wings "hot and smoky" which were crispy but the sauce was overpowering and the wing itself was small and lacked any real meat. He also had a beef slider which was flavorless. The only other highlight of this location was the Boylans soda machine. But I can get birch beer at ShopRite, so this is no reason to visit. I wasn't sure what to expect as we picked this location due to a Groupon Coupon. The atmosphere is very casual and the decor is very West Coast meets Vermont. There are pictures of surfers in action under the counter at the register and snow boards adorn the walls to the left as you walk-in. The menu is simple with 6 themed burgers 6 non-burger sandwiches and you can make your own burger. They offer burgers as sliders or as regular sized. The first negative is the size of the burgers themselves. The regular was not much bigger than the slider. The second negative was the cheese. They use a white cheese sauce I'm assuming was cheddar. It was relatively tasteless and watery. The buyers themselves were good. They patties had an excellent homemade quality to them and the toppings were fresh. On a very positive note they offer "lettuce buns" which was great for my gluten sensitive wife and children. We also ordered a pulled pork slider. Based on what I was expecting from a pulled pork slider it was disappointing. The flavor wasn't bad it just wasnt what I thought I was ordering. The final straw that tipped this mediocre experience to a good one was the beverage selection. Bella's Burger Shack serves Wild Bill soda!!! I have only ever seen this stuff at the Middlesex County fair. I was impressed by this little touch of individuality in a market saturated with commercialism.
