The ambience is still wonderful, but I have to wonder what has happened to this place. We ordered the shrimp and grits and the coconut shrimp, and both dishes were practically inedible because the shrimp was severely overcooked. The menu stated that the coconut shrimp came with pepper jelly. Instead, we were served what appeared to be some sort of sweet vinegar juice with green onions floating in it. When we questioned our server, we were met with a flippant and dismissive response: "That is how he makes it." As a last resort, we ordered a pasta dish, hoping it would be better. Unfortunately, it was even worse. One person in our group ordered a burger and said it was good, so at least there was one bright spot in an otherwise disappointing meal. To top things off, the vodka and cranberry cocktail tasted as though it contained little, if any, vodka. What makes this experience particularly frustrating is that 10 South has always been a place I enjoyed and looked forward to visiting. The atmosphere remains one of its greatest assets, but great ambience cannot make up for poorly prepared food and indifferent service. I sincerely hope management takes a hard look at what is happening in the kitchen and with the service. I would love to see 10 South return to the restaurant I once knew and enjoyed.

My original steak sandwich wasn't on the menu this time so I got the "Friday Steak Special ". This was a hand-cut steak that was 13-14 oz steak and was very tender and had good flavor. It was much more fatty than I expected but I like a bit of gristle. This place is a diamond in the rough and they embrace the "hole in the wall" feel since it's even on their t-shirts. My parents were with us this time around and they liked the fries, onion rings, and burgers. My wife got grilled shrimp and loved it as well.
