I've been a "local" here for about 4 years now and I would say that I love the selection at Bella James. They have Michael Stars, Hardtail, MIss Me Jeans, Paige Denim, and many other great designers. I've gotten quite a few cute things here. Their customer service has gotten better as well (still not perfect, but a LOT better). I was so inspired by this store, I decided to write my very first review on yelp. This boutique is filled with stylish, easy to wear clothing. For years I have been having trouble finding clothes that I loved and felt comfortable in. As a mom with two young kids, I rarely have time to myself. I find the amount of choices at the mall to be overwhelming, and rarely choose to spend my precious free time sorting through all the options in search of that special piece. I also strike out with online shopping, where I order a bunch of clothes only to return 95 percent of them. Needless to say, my wardrobe has been suffering. All that changed after my recent visit to this wonderful store. The racks are bursting with amazing clothes, and I found that my problem was in wanting to buy too many outfits! But what really set this store apart was the amazing customer service. I met two owners and three associates while I shopped. They were all friendly, helpful and most importantly honest. When something didn't look the best on me, they told the truth rather then try and force a sell. They gave me tips on how to wear the items and added accessories and shoes to complete the outfits. I left with three bags of clothes! The next day I returned with a few items I had decided not to keep, and not only did they remember me by name they were supportive of the fact I changed my mind. I even received a thank you card in the mail for shopping with them for the first time. That is not an experience you are likely to find in any mall or online store. Five star service and amazing clothing. I'll definitely be returning. I feel put together and stylish for the first time in many years. And as the cherry on top, the first day I wore an outfit from the store I had two strangers compliment me on it. What more can you ask for? read more

Love this store. I always find going to Nordstrom's or Macy's overwhelming as it's sectioned off by brands. Boutiques like BellaJames, are great to explore different brands. They are always on top of the latest trends along with having closet staples. Plus they help you shop which I love. Helps me step out of my comfort zone. read more

Wow - I would expect that based on the price point of the merchandise that is being sold at this store, there would be a higher level of customer service...at least a smile when you enter the door. However, perhaps I am being judged by my appearance or attire when I walk in because, not only do I not get acknowledged, I also only receive curt responses if I do ask a question. I love to shop locally and it is always my first option, but in this case, I'd rather just spend my dollars at piperlime.com (their website greets me more warmly than the sales associates in this store). read more

I love coming into this place when I know I need to find something cute and trendy for a night out or casual event...and I don't want to deal with the hassle of heading to the mall It is not a big store but I always find many things I love. They carry a lot of my favorite brands (Free People, Michael Stars tees, Joe's Jeans, BCBG) as well as some niche labels I've never heard of. The accessory selection is pretty good with some lovely jewelry from local designers. I wish they stayed open a little later for those of us who work full time! :-) read more

Every time I have gone into this store, I notice a genuine air of pretentiousness! The sales women are Not very friendly at all....I am not sure what makes them think if they treat customers like they are "2nd Class citizens" that this will make them come back and become committed patrons. ...I experienced this type of treatment by a sales girl (late 40s early 50s) who was working this past Sunday, May 3, at 2pm in the afternoon, tall white lady with long dirty blonde hair....I tried to be as friendly as possible, but she never even made any real authentic acknowledgment to look up from the register at me... or reciprocate my friendliness. I found her to be very pretentious, stuck up, unprofessional and unfriendly. It was not until my boyfriend asked her a question did she pay some attention our way.......LOL! That said, this retail establishment gets Zero Stars from me.....They really need a whole new staff, who are more user-friendly and can show common and consistent respect to any customer who comes in to the store. I love this store! As a mother of two who just turned 30 (yikes), it's so hard for me to find cute, stylin' clothes that don't make me look like I'm trying to be a teeny bopper or the typical mom. I went there for a sale a couple of days ago, and I am in love with every single thing I found. First of all, Citizens and Sevens were on SALE! I didn't know that was even possible! I bought an adorable wardrobe at a fraction of the regular price because so many adorable pieces were discounted due to limited quantities, and I definitely benefited from it! I love this cute boutique in Willow Glen. Even better now in a new space down a few blocks from the old one on Lincoln Ave. Great quality clothing and very personal service. Jean is the best at helping you put together an outfit that fits you to a tee. I have mixed feelings about Bella James boutique. As a Willow Glen resident I try to do my best to support our downtown businesses and I always find myself giving this place the benefit of the doubt, but for some reason I just can't fall in love with it. The staff here is really hot and cold, sometimes they're extremely friendly and other times they don't even acknowledge me. The clothing isn't cheap but the quality isn't great on some of the pieces. Maybe I've just had bad luck with the brands I've purchased, but three different tops I bought here have ended up with holes and/or unraveling threads. Despite this, they do have a nice, new location and the racks are easy to browse. I guess I would recommend stopping by if you're looking for something new and different than what you would find at the mall. read more

I'm honestly shocked by some of the bad reviews. I've never had an issue with the staff at Bella James! Due to the length and shape of the boutique, it's possible that some of the customers couldn't hear the staff's greeting. Anytime I'm in there, I always here a "hello" for incoming customers. And quiet honestly, I feel that they go above and beyond to make sure I'm getting the help I need. As for their inventory- they have it all. Whether you are shopping for designer apparel or are working with a tight budget, you'll be able to find something adorable! I never leave empty handed! read more

If I had a million dollars, I'd shop here everyday! A parent at the school I teach at is the owner and she definitely knows what's up in the fashionista world. It is small and usually I'm intimidated by small boutique stores, but not this one. They have all the great brands like Michael Stars, Seven, Splendid tees, etc. I think they are moving soon to a new location which will be better for them because they are hiding in the the Garden Theater. My friend and I came in because we saw a really cute jumpsuit in the window. My friend just had a baby and was feeling a little low on herself. Went inside and she was so excited to try it on. The elderly brunette woman working said the one on the mannequin was the only one and it was a small. My friend said okay I'll try it and she said "I don't think it will work for you". My friend insisted to try it against all her "recommendations". It fit her perfectly, she looked amazing and felt the best she has felt since her pregnancy. As she is in line to pay $100 for the jumpsuit I see the same worker hanging 2 more of the EXACT same jumpsuit that she claimed they only had one of. Needless to say extremely rude and petty situation for a new mom just looking for a little confidence boost. Extremely rude staff and overpriced product, wouldn't mind paying for if the staff treated customers with respect. read more

My girlfriends, daughters and I were on our way to breakfast as I noticed a cute top that caught my eye in this cute boutique store that I wanted to look at. They weren't open yet so I just figured we would stop by after breakfast. We walked into the boutique store and I started picking out stuff to try on. Dresses, tops, skirts, pants you name it I tried it ALL on! The prices are very reasonable and affordable as well. I always like to find things that are different that you can't always find. I've been wanted to go out of my element and try out a new look anyway. I think we were in the store for at least a couple of hours!! I had the nicest employe names Jean that was fabulous and amazing! She was super sweet and most of all she was down to earth and told me the truth on how things looked on me. I did have my besties with me that also gave their opinions as well. I don't know what I would do without them! At the end of the day I walked out of the store with more then a few outfits. I stumbled upon this store today while in WG. They have nice product, but RUDE sales people. As soon as I walked in I came across a coat that was very nice, I took it off the hanger when one sales associate walked by and didn't even acknowledge me. So I put it back down and thought let me keep looking to see if there is anything else. I walked through the entire store and not even a hello or a smile!!!! There were 4 people working and not one person addressed me or asked me if I needed any help! They may have quality product, but the workers sure aren't!!! read more

I'm suspecting that this place might have a preference for Caucasian women as I too (like Patti F.) have received very little service compared to the other women who have come into the shop the same time I did. Last week, I was there with my sister and niece and the three of us were very curtly and formally treated while everyone else (All Caucasian btw) were doted upon. Super organized and they work so hard to make sure you are happy and even try to find you the right size if they don't have it at store. This review is several years overdo. I simply love this boutique. Lisa and Vicki are wonderful as are all of the women working there. Lisa is gracious and HONEST in her feedback if something works or doesn't work for me. It is not easy for me to find cute clothing since I am petite with "girlfriends" to boot. BellaJames always has a dress or blouse that does the trick. My problem is leaving there without wanting to buy it all. Great accessories, lingerie and a huge selection of jeans. They have items to appeal to young women and women who are in their 50s, but want to dress hip. Like me! Love this place! read more

I really hope the owners of Bella James actually read the Yelp reviews because I see a consistent issue being posted re the customer service. If it wasn't for the decent product selection, I wouldn't bother after reading everyone's reviews. I actually went into the store prior to reading Yelp reviews and thought it was a place I'd probably shop if I didn't want to go to the crowded malls. I did notice that no one greeted me (and I usually don't give my money to any store if no one greets me, but I did see a wallet I liked) but instead, had conversations with some woman who just hung out at the register. Now IBISS which is maybe a block down had a similar selection, cheaper (not the same brands, but the selection didn't look too bad), and the guy at IBISS was waaaay more friendly and helpful. Bella James should probably learn from them on how to make people feel welcome. read more

I enjoyed an amazing shopping experience here. The sales staff was incredibly kind and listened to my needs and aesthetic. Everything brought to me fit and looked great. They took the time to help me assemble complete outfits that could mix and match. Clothes are great, but the customer service is really uneven. I've had one experience where the salesperson was great - and other experiences where it seemed that they couldn't care less if I bought something or not - and Tee C., I am Caucasian, btw. I always thought that there may be a bit of "ageism" going on - their target audience is definitely the 25-40 demographic, which I am, ahem, a bit past. I did note that if someone in that age range comes in, they're all over them, while I sort of felt invisible. If they got their customer service together, it would be a great place to shop. read more

Since finding Bella James shortly after it opened, it has become my first stop when looking for something special. The owners and staff are first rate. They help without being intrusive and give you good advice while never feeling like they are pressuring for the sale. The selection is distressingly good. Love Bella James!! My daughter and i stop in there about once a month (our doctors and dentists are near there) and they treat us wonderful!! There is one person (with a really cute pixie haircut) that remembers our names and helps my daughter pick out the cutest outfits! She is wonderful and the clothing is so great!!
