Okay so this new place pops up after being under construction for what must be over a year. Anyway, worth waiting for I guess, as ambience is very nice and staff were very efficient and pleasant. Food was outstanding and delivered quickly and on time. Was not crowded probably because its a little difficult to find - or better put - you wouldnt expect it to be there. Plenty of parking. Went there with family. An exceptional place. My husband and I waited at the bar for our party to arrive. The bartender (John) was the first we've ever encountered to introduce himself and shake our hand in greeting. The atmosphere was unexpected since the outside is very unassuming. Inside was very classy yet comfortable. The food was good, prices reasonable and service impeccable. The owners were present and honestly cared about their patrons' opinions (a rarity). I read through the previous reviews... I had to wonder if they were speaking of the same place!? We 'heard' about it through one of those coupon packets. Always looking to try something new we headed over, our first visit was on a Sunday evening. Located in a shopping strip mall the first impression was not all that good. From the outside it could easily be passed up. What a delightful surprise Bella Mia is! We have dined here three times now and each time we find that the food is excellent! Wine selection was good too. We have always been greeted immediately and seated right away. The decor is beautiful, warm and charming. Every entree we received was delicious. The chicken noodle soup had generous chunks of tender chicken with home made noodles. I loved that the soup was not over salted. Very tasty. The biggest surprise was the filet! Ordered medium and was prepared perfectly. Tender and juicy served with sauteed mushrooms it was delicious. The sauteed spinach was perfectly wilted with a generous amount of garlic. The Chicken Tetrazzini was delicious and also generous. We have always taken part of our meals home, the portions are generous. The food is excellent. A true surprise because of its location. 4 stars mostly because the wait staff is on the slower side. Although, VERY friendly staff though from the GM on down. Truly is a Baby Boomer clientele. Worst experience ever! Had reservations and after an hour of waiting, after we were told we were next, they seated someone else. There was no acknowledgement of what they put us through on our anniversary. They didnt offer an apology or even a drink. I dont know how they are in business. My parents went here for their wedding anniversary along with a large group of people. They had nothing but great things to say about their experience. I went here on a date and was very impressed with everything. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous on the inside and reminds me of an upscale type of place that you would find up north or in the city. The service was excellent and the owner was amazing. He not only checked on us but other parties as well to see if everything was up to par and to our liking. The bread was freshly baked and straight from the oven and was very good. I had the chicken parmesan and my date ordered the fettuccini chicken Alfredo. My meal was absolutely delicious! I could tell that my meal was freshly cooked and made to order. The meal consisted of two huge sized portions of chicken breast that was breaded served with a side of mostaccioli covered with sauce. The sauce was amazing and I could tell that was freshly made as well. My date's meal was even better. The chicken was very flavorful and the portions were large too. The sauce was very rich and creamy. All in all I felt that the prices were very reasonable and the food as well as the service was excellent. We had reservations for 7:30 for my mother's birthday. When we arrived the place was packed. The hostess said there would be a wait and she didn't know how long. It was the same thing she kept telling all of the customers who came in. We waited and waited. I heard a customer go up to the hostess who had a reservation at 6:30 that still had not been seated yet. Not a good sign, especially since we arrived at 7:10 to check in. At 8:20 we decided to leave. We were told we were next numerous times. The hostess sat a group of people who arrived after us, and that was the last of our patience. At this point another hostess confronted the other and told her she sat the wrong group and it was our table she gave away. Needless to say we were heading out when another hostess ran outside to tell us she had a table. I do appreciate her effort in attempting to get us a table and to stay, but we were done at this point. There was no point in time where the manager appeared to thank any of the people for their patience or apologize for the wait, or even to support the employees at the front doors with all of the people who were upset. I would imagine the food is good if they were that busy. However, if you can not manage reservations then do not take them! read more

I've been to this restaurant before several times before moving out of town and always had a great experience. While the food has always been delicious and the staff amazing, this time the staff was horrible. I was in there on a Sunday (the Sunday before Memorial Day) and I'm not sure if the staff was more drunk or high as both odors were coming from the servers, bartender and even the "man in charge". Had a great experience at Bella Mia. The waiter was an older Italian gentleman whom provided us with excellent service. We had our wedding ceremony and reception there and everything was perfect! We couldn't have asked for more. Our requests from table settings, dinner requests, timeline and ease of scheduling (opened their business before regular hours). From the moment you walk into this restaurant, you feel very welcomed. The staff is friendly, helpful, enthusiastic, and very well taken care of (thanks, Sal). My sister had been here one time and highly recommended it so the three of us agreed to meet there last night. Two of us had the chicken vesuvio and the other sister had the chicken parmigiana. We have been here many times before. My husband really likes it. Last night we went and the drinks were horrible. 3 out of 4 of us at table had a 7/7. I believe my drink did not have any whiskey in it. My husband and friend felt the same way. I decided not to get another drink cause I didn't want to spend 8 dollars on a small glass of 7 up. The second drinks for the other 2 came just as weak. The whole dinner I didn't have a drink cause they never filled our water glasses either. Having had such a pleasant experience during my first visit to Bella Mia, I looked forward to my second. It was like night and day and it was all due to poor service.Our server was "K" and she got our drinks and left us holding our menus for 15 minutes before she came back and took our order. We all had soup instead of salad and the soup was lukewarm, not hot. Same for our entrees- she warned us not to touch our plates because they were so hot- they weren't and neither were the entrees. We were there early and the dining room was not crowded. I don't know if I'd go back or not, but if I did, I would request not to sit in "K"'s station. read more

We recently hosted a dinner to celebrate our son's college graduation at Bella Mia. There were 34 people in our group, and we were seated in the room at the back with the fireplace. It had the feeling of being in a beautiful mansion in Italy! There aren't enough words to praise the staff and management at Bella Mia. They did everything they possibley could to be sure that everyone in our group had a wonderful afternoon. Of course, the food was exceptional. The food orders ranged from pasta, veal, steaks and seafood. The mark of a well-run restaurant is that EVERYONE'S food was served virtually at the same time--plated well, hot and amazingly delicious. I absolutely love this restaurant. My parents took my husband and I here right after my daughter was born for a night out. We sat at the bar for a drink or two, then headed over to our table. The food was fantastic, and the staff was so friendly and accommodating. The owner also came over to greet us, which I thought was very nice. As we finished, they had live entertainment which was great, and people were dancing. You don't find places like this too often anymore. By far the best Italian restaurant on the southside. The atmosphere is first class and the food is delicious. I ordered the chicken piccata (veal piccata but substitute chicken) the first time I went there and just about every time I go back and it is always perfect. The sausage and pepper appetizer is MORE than enough for three people. I have recently been ordering the lake perch and OMG, it's to die for. From the outside it doesn't look like it would be this nice but walk in the door and you will be blown away. The owner, Randy runs a first class restaurant and the chef is top notch. We've been to Bella Mia twice now and what a find. It's old school Italian complete with white tablecloths. I had Shrimp Dejonghe and the porterhouse steak both times since it was so good and HUGE. I was still eating steak 2 days later. I do need to try something else next time and their will be a next time even though it's not convenient for me. It's worth it. The service was outstanding and Thursdays are 1/2 price on bottles of house wine. Settled on a Pinot Grigio and it was also good. Pleasantly surprised. Just found out about their monthly wine dinner and I'm really looking forward to it. The price is amazing for a 6 course meal with a different wine for each course. read more

Tuesday night my girlfriends and i dined at Bella Mia. Absolutely elegant dining room. All our entrees were absolutely delicious. Randy the owner makes you feel so special, His assistant John was always helping. while pouring water and serving bread recommended and explained the highlights of the menu. He told us the kitchen was totally accommodating and to all our requests as did the owner Randy. The problem was the waitress. She was clueless. We asked several questions which she stumbled thru. This restaurant is surprising. It is located in a strip mall that has seen better days, but Bella Mia is a classy, nicely decorated spot. It is warm and comfortable for both a group celebration and date night, The service couldn't be better from the bus boys, to the waitress and even the manager. The staff was pleasant, efficient and helpful. We had a waitress named Donna. She was great! Our meal started with a fresh warm loaf of bread with a light crispy crust. The soups were very good. This place for the most part was GREAT!!! The restaurant is in a strip mall, so it doesn't really look too impressive from the outside. Once u get inside u will not believe how beautiful it is! I would however suggest getting a reservation. We went on sat night right around 7pm and it took 45 mins to get a table. The food for the most part was excellent, so it was well worth the wait!!! I got calamari and it was fresh and tasted so delicious! They also have great bread and super yummy cream of chicken and rice soup, lasagna, mostaccioli and tiramisu!! They also serve nice big glasses of wine, they don't skimp on that! If prime rib is every on special, I would say DONT get it, my husband got it and it tasted nasty and was tuff, it actually tasted old and like it was precooked a few days before and just reheated.... I did end up telling the waitress about the prime rib, she gladly took it off the bill and also gave him free dessert and asked if we wanted more soup to take home on the house! Otherwise, the place was well staffed and also had great service! This place is a hidden gem! We will be going back, but next time with a reservation! :-) read more

This was one of the worse meals I've experienced. Everything I ordered was horrendous! NIce bar but if you don't want Canyon River wine you only have one other choice. Very strange for an "Italian"(?) restaurant. I don't understand the raves on the atmosphere either (romantic, classy, stunning?). I found it to be none of those. The place is laid out so weird. There is one aisle to move through for both servers and patrons making it very awkward to maneuver and no matter what table you have you must put up with everyone walking by it. Except for the bread, everything we had was just awful. I almost had to go out and check the address because our experience did not match up to the rave reviews at all. I was hoping for a good restaurant finally in these southwest suburbs. I guess I'll continue to hope. Would never ever consider going back. Place was packed and it mystified me. I came here for the first time last night to catch up with some friends. It was a nice atmosphere, the wait staff seemed nice at first but then it felt like she was rushing us out of there. We were seated at 6:15 and at around 7:15 she dropped off the check and then stood in the back of the room where there was no one else but us and just stood there. Maybe it's just me but an hour for dinner is not an unheard of time frame. Then she makes a big exaggerated sigh. I understand if she had to leave but it would have been a lot easier if she would have said that from the get go instead of being passive aggressive about the situation. We were just chatting and catching up, not in any rush to leave. So we pay her, I gave her 20% instead of my usual 25% because of her rudeness. So then they say they are closing up the room we were in, the rest of the restaurant was open but they wouldn't seat us at another table and there was no room at the bar so we had no choice but to leave and finish our chat outside in the parking lot. As we were walking out the waitress goes, "Thanks for coming, and SO generous!" very exaggerated like. I don't understand. Even if it was genuine, I think it is a very strange thing to say to customers as they are leaving after you have basically kicked them out. Don't go to Bella Mia's and let them sit you in the back room if you want a relaxing dinner without being rushed. Besides that, the food was decent but they should focus on improving their customer service. read more

I love italian food. We happened to be out south and decided to try this restaurant. What a surpise!!!!! It was fantabulous. The atmosphere was great, the service was great, the food was great, and the price was great!! Can I say GREAT again!! We felt welcomed and attended to as soon as we walked in. We also met the owner who seemed to go out of his way to make sure that we were happy and satisfied. My spouse is very picky and asked for several changes to his entree. They made all of the changes without any drama whatsoever. He really enjoyed the end result. He is not an italian food lover as I am but would definitely come back. Me on the other hand enjoyed my food thoroughly. The fried calamari was tender on the inside and crispy outside. The pork chops - ooohhh sooo goooddd!!!! Try them, they won't disappoint. The restaurant overall will not disappoint. It is beautiful on the inside. Atmosphere definitely adds to the dining experience. We will definitely go there again. I have been here before and thought it was good, however, after this experience I will never go back there. The service was absolutely horrendous! It took 20 minutes to get menus after being seated. Another 20 minutes to order appetizers. After 1 hour of no food, we voiced our complaints to the manager. As he came to the table to apologize the waitress came to the table with the appetizers and threw the platter down and screamed if they aren't happy then get them a new waitress in front of the whole dining room. He switched to a new waiter who took our orders and complained that the previous waitress should not be there. The soup came out with bowls half full and others overflowing. The plates from the appetizers and soup sat on the table in a big pile and were never cleared. After 2 hours our food came only to find that they missed full entrees for some of our party! At that point we just walked out. I have never experienced such horrible service anywhere. I have never seen staff behave so unprofessional. Think twice about going here. There are other places for great food without the substandard behavior! read more

I knew we were in trouble when the waitress took out a red marker and flippantly wrote her name on our table. The ambiance was shattered by the live music coming from the Irish bar next door. We were told the owner of Bella Mia owns the bar as well. The music vibrated through the walls inside the restaurant. We sat on the patio and were treated to huge blasts of music as patrons entered and exited the bar. Since we were seated outside, we were also treated to huge blasts of cigarette smoke from the bar patrons. Service was so-so from Donna. We had no napkins at our table; there were three of us at our table and she grudgingly brought us two cloth napkins with the soup and salads. My husband had to wait until his entree was served before he was handed a paper napkin. The food was the best thing about the place. My daughter's entree was not served as requested, but they quickly replaced it with the right order. All entrees were good-chicken florentine, jumbo shrimp and ravioli with vodka sauce. We had been there in January, 2014 and were treated to a four star experience, so I am not sure how this place declined so quickly. read more

My husband and I had dinner at Bella Mia for the first time. We have lived by the Midlothian Country Club for 12 years. We didn't even know the place opened until I found a dinner coupon they mailed out. They should advertise more to let people know they are there. We met the owner (Randy) who was a very nice gentleman. I thought the place was beautiful. We had great service from Donna. I had linguine with red clam sauce. I'm 48 and have eaten clam sauce in many places. This was the best I ever had. My husband had pork chops that had to have been at least 2 inches thick. The owner told us he owns Sullivan's next door to Bella Mia. We have to check that place out soon. I have to mention that our water was always full, dishes were cleared away immediately , and the staff really was great. We go out at least once a week. I hate to say we spend all of our money at places in Palos Heights and Orland Park. I am so glad we finally discovered this place. I can't wait to try some of there other dishes. read more

Celebrated our anniversary there last night. This is one of our favorite places to go. The food, wait staff, and owner were outstanding and 5 stars. Honestly the best Italian food I've ever had. But my wife and I were given a groupon gift for this meal. Make sure you read all the fine print if you have a Groupon because they wont even honor the face value paid for the groupon if you dont have enough in your party. Example the groupon was a 100.00 groupon that cost 50.00. Now stated on the groupon that the 100.00 is good for a partry of 4 patrons. Now the face value and amount paid for the groupon was 50.00. The goupon had expired but the face value and amout paid was still 50.00. Becuase it was only my wife and I they would only honor 25.00. Well i guess it is what it is and for a great meal its still worth it. But when our waitress got the manager Bill I believe he said his name was, and said a comment in such a condescending manor "I DONT SEE 4 PEOPLE SITTING HERE SO YOUR GROUPON IS ONLY WORTH HALF" is the reason we will NEVER return and neither will our family. In this day and age customer service is the make and break for retaining customers. Maybe your front of the house should learn that. read more
