Excellent pizza by the slice. Will be back soon. It really was tasty. Must try again

Look at this mess!! They used sliced cheese and didn't even have sense enough to cover the entire pizza.

Look at this mess!!! They used sandwich cheese on a pizza. Below average. I wouldn't feed this to a homeless person.

Meatball sub with meatballs cut in half. Not cool

So this is the second time and I asked them not to do it. They are cutting meatballs in half on there meatball subs so you only get 2 meatballs in an 8" sub... really 9.00 and all I get is bread and cheese.. not cool not cool.. will not order again

This is a 'just OK' sort of place. Definitely feels like your neighborhood family-style pizza joint--lots of character, but the quality of the pizza itself was rather 'meh,' for lack of a better word. I loved that they sell many types of pizza by the slice (though the meat on most of them is just bacon; others have pepperoni--I didn't see any chicken, sausage, or meatballs). The toppings are quite generous, but the dough is quite dry.

I can't help but feel the food has fallen off some since then. The asparagus and bean sides did not wow, and the 2 seafood pastas (one was the special) we got were very bland. Flawless wine list and cocktails. Still a lovely spot for special occasions!

We consulted you, the Yelp Community, for recommendations. You did not disappoint! The restaurant is in a complex with a hotel and other shops in the heart of the town. We parked in a nearby garage (easy) and walked over. We didn't have a reservation, but, fortunately we were able to get a table for 2. Yay! The atmosphere is warm with a sophisticated feel. We were greeted promptly, got drinks and they took our order. First up was a simple, traditional tomato and onion salad, no lettuce, with an oil and herb dressing. This was the only soft note in the meal, mostly because this type of salad needs a tomato with lots of flavor, particularly an acid note to balance the oil. These tomatoes weren't up to that task. It was still very good, just on the bland side, and getting good flavorful tomatoes late in the season can be challenging. Entrees! I got the Pappardelle with Bolognese gravy. Anyone who has read my reviews for a time knows I have a problem with tomato gravy with beef being sold as "bolognese". Pure joy when nicely cooked Al dente noodles showed up smothered in a legit creamy bolognese. Y'all, it was really good. Lys had never experienced Smith Island Cake. Shocking, I know. So we of course got a slice to split after dinner, despite being pretty stuffed. The cake didn't disappoint. It was fudgy (almost like a thick ganache) and moist but not mushy or falling apart. Lys now understands why this is the unofficial dessert of Maryland. Sooooo good. Awesome place. Highly recommend.

Ambiance: Modern and sassy, but can be loud. I'd say it has a very energetic vibe. Not very intimate because of the, sometimes boisterous, patronage. There is a new dress code, but I didn't see it being enforced on a few. Not somewhere to have a quiet refined dinner, at least on a Saturday. However, there is outside seating, which actually is a little more relaxed, if the weather is cooperative. App steak rolls: These are always a hit when going here. Sadly I think these are going away because the new owners want a more authentic Italian restaurant. Steaks: We ordered 3 10 oz filets. 2 were cooked perfectly, the third was very rare in the center when all of them were supposed to be medium. Part of me thinks the back got the order wrong somehow, because the two others were perfect. Very strange. Truffle Fries: Very yummy, although to me, I felt it needed a tad bit more salt, but there is salt on the table as needed. I would definitely order these fries again.

Before we'd sat down, the waiter was trying "to start us off with calamari'. Is it a special or on the menu? What's the price? Who knows, because he never said. Fortunately, who cares, because neither of us likes calamari, and this was just lunch. I asked what beers they have (spoiler -- just a handful and not very good ones) and the waiter tells us that he likes beer because he's German, but he doesn't like schnitzel or sausage or other German food. Like I care, but I happen to love many German dishes so thank you for trying to make me feel like someone who doesn't know good food from crap. Bottom line on the beer: the Peroni had gone off from sitting too long so it was a $8 Corona for me. Another bad sign of things to come was that the waiter had to keep going back to the kitchen (fyi, we were the only customers) to talk to the "chef" who only spoke Spanish. So much for the hype of this being the restaurant of an Italian chef. Of course, the owner/chef can't be there all the time, but good Italian cooking requires some facility with that cuisine, and there was no evidence of that in our meals. My wife loves chicken parm, which was a special today, and what she ordered, with extra sauce. I ordered penne ala vodka. Mine arrived and I was stunned to see the dark orange sauce, which didn't look like any vodka sauce I've ever had. Didn't taste like them either -- way too sweet for one thing. The chicken strips were like bits of leather, and I left them, along with half the penne. The wife's chicken parm was another disaster. She could not eat any of the chicken, or whatever mystery meat they served; there was no sauce on the Angel hair pasta, and no sign of the extra sauce -- for which they charged $2, but didn't tell us there'd be an upcharge. The cheese on her parm was also inedible -- the kind that you chew and chew like it's bubble gum and can't swallow. She basically had some Angel hair pasta and I basically had some penne. When he took our almost-full plates away, the waiter ignored my comment that my chicken was inedible. When he brought the check, he wished us a happy rest of the day and said he was glad we'd come in. I told him that made one of us. Will never be back.
