So far I've had two eye exams at Bella Eye Care Optometry, and now that I'm a fully established patient I feel like I can write a review of the entire experience. Heads up: very lengthy and detailed review! At the time of my first visit I was in complete denial that I even needed to wear glasses. Let me be honest- hours of COD and Destiny probably weren't the best for my eyes. I went in because I couldn't even recall the last time I had a full vision exam...not to mention my girlfriend kept bugging me to actually use my vision insurance. Upon entering the establishment I was promptly greeted by just about everyone who was working. I immediately felt welcome. One of the girls at the desk handed me a clipboard with paperwork that just about any other medical office would give you. Nothing out of the ordinary there.(Make sure to bring your vision AND medical insurance info!) After completing the paperwork it was just a few minutes until I was called back for pretesting. They've got this machine that I've never seen before where you look at this screen and click when you see a pattern move. The optician who was administering the tests gave clear instructions on what to do for each test. She even explained what each machine was testing. It was quick and painless. (Wish I could say the same for that dreaded test that practically blows a hurricane at your eyes) My visit with Dr Nguyen was very thorough. I must say she was very patient as I read through the letters. I swear I felt like she asked me if one or two was better at least eight times. (Or...was it three or four?) Lo and behold I needed my first pair of glasses. Because of my health history Dr Nguyen also wanted to dilate me and take pictures of the insides of my eyes (these were pretty awesome). I've heard plenty of friends groan about not being able to see anything afterward, but Dr Nguyen reassured me I would be fine. She even let me take a look at glasses before getting the dilation drops. Now for the frame selection. This place has got it all. I've got a wider face than most people- I know this because I've struggled with finding sunglasses in the past. I didn't expect to find frames that I liked that also fit my head, but I actually found a few that worked out. After narrowing it down to one frame, the optician took the time to explain lenses to me. I never thought I'd learn so much from a visit to the eye doctor! I was introduced to this antireflective coating that would be great for late night gaming, and now there's no way I would get a pair of glasses without it. My most recent visit for an exam was just as pleasant. I walked in and was greeted by familiar faces, as well as some new faces that were just as welcoming. The process was very similar to the first time. This time I remembered to use my FSA card to pay and I signed up for their rewards program. It's such a fun and comfortable environment that it doesn't even feel like a trip to the doctor's. You can tell everyone enjoys working there. Overall, if you're looking for a new eye doctor or even just a place to order glasses from, this is the place to go. Great staff. Great doctor. Amazing quality of products. I will definitely be back. I like it at Bella. I have been going here for a year now, no complaints. Staff is really nice and easy to talk to. They work with you with your schedule and make it easy to make appointments based on your availability. Glasses, they have everything and their costs are competitive like any other place. They don't try to upsell or pressure you into getting more than what you're comfortable with. Dr. Nguyen is really cool. She takes notes not just on your eye health but also what's going on in your life. I've noticed she uses it as something to talk about when she first sees you, which is something other doctors in any medical settings never do. I would know, I work in the medical field. I had left my previous eye doctor because I didn't feel like I was important, and that my concerns were being heard. Honestly, not sure why there are bad reviews here. I'm glad their overall rating is still 5 stars. I am taking my lunch time to write this review, because this office deserves it. I have never been to a more customer-oriented optometrist before. Dr. Nguyen remembers my face and name after only one visit. Seriously? I've gone to doctors for a year or more before they remember me. Not only that, they're so prompt on reminding you and letting you know when your contacts are available. There is no pressure on selling you anything. I just got back from getting a pair of trial from Dr. Nguyen after emailing her to let her know I lost my contacts and couldn't take wearing my old glasses at work any more. Replied in less than an hour saying I can drop by and she'd have it ready for me. Went in and out without hassle. LOVE this place. read more

Dr Nguyen is very personable, clearly intelligent, helpful, and simply good at her job. She also provides excellent customer service. She ran the numbers for me on the best way to take full advantage of my insurance (should I have it pay for my contacts? or the lenses for my glasses?). She didn't try to pressure me into more expensive options. She recommended I change contact brands to better fit the way I use (or abuse) my contacts. Also, the is the first time in a long time I've managed to find a doctor who got my glasses prescription good enough that I don't mind wearing my glasses for more than a couple of a hours a time! My 8 year old daughter started complaining about headaches and not being able to see movies unless she was close to the tv. It happened rather suddenly so I immediately started researching Optometrists in the area. I was referred to Bella Eye Care by a family friend so I came to yelp to read some of the reviews. Everything looked good on Yelp so I decided to make an appointment. The person I spoke with on the phone was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. I was looking for a place to do my annual eye exam and decided to give Bella Eye Care a try due to the great Yelp Reviews. I'm so glad I did! Dr. Judy is the sweetest thing ever! She made me feel comfortable, and she had very high tech equipment that I've never seen before. I love Dr. Judy and love my new frames. She is sensitive to the Asian flatter nose bridge problem, and actually has a lot of glasses that are cute and stay up on your nose, even if you have no bridge! Dr Nguyen and her staff were all friendly and down to earth to make you feel comfortable. Dr. Nguyen is great in explaining the different products. My last visit was for contact fitting and Dr. Nguyen gave me great examples the difference between having contact with astigmatism and ones without and she would actually show me the difference. The optometry is a little quaint but very nice and clean. I'm very surprised they accept five star(usually i see it in food related places) So when you spend $200 or more you get 2 points and can redeem it for a free item(i forgot what it was). Also when you check in on Yelp you get a discount on sunglasses! I enjoyed my visit and it was quick and easy with no issue. I recently moved to Newark and was looking for a new optometrist as I was looking to get new glasses. I must say that I am so glad that I came across Dr. Nguyen at Bella Eye Care. Dr. Nguyen is easy to talk to, very helpful, extremely thorough, and I get the sense that she truly cares about her patient's needs. In addition, the office is very clean! I felt very comfortable during my eye exam. During my exam I mentioned that I hate that test where you get air shot into your eyes (I think testing for glaucoma?) and Dr. Nguyen told me that she had an alternative version of that test that used drops instead. I appreciate Dr. Nguyen's accommodation for my comfort. Dr. Nguyen was extremely helpful in calling my insurance companies and finding out how to get me the best deal on my glasses, for which I am very grateful seeing as I'm a poor college student. She even left me a voicemail after I left the office to let me know that my insurance would cover my next order of contacts since my prescription is so bad. Tried to make an appointment this morning. Asked if they take VSP and are in network, they are. Then she asked me for my husband information; name, dob, but then asked for his last 4 of his ssn. Ok weird since I have my vsp id card here so I should not need to give u any of that info over the phone. Then she asked for his full ssn because she still couldn't find our insurance. Mind u I called VSP and they recommended this place. I then got frustrated with her and asked why can't u just make the appointment then verify with my id card when I am present? This has never been an issue with any of my other optometrists nor have I ever had to give them my husbands ssn just my id card and they verified. I decided not to go here because I do not like how the reception desk handled my call as a new client. I have a family of 6 as well all fully insured that I was going to bring here for our exams. I seriously do not understand how this place can get good reviews. 1st Price - Bella is a premium vendor with maximum coverage, as per our company insurance provider but I ended up with the most expensive pair of glasses. I found Costco even without any insurance coverage to be cheaper for the same pair of glasses. Lenscrafters with partial coverage was cheaper too. 2nd Selection - They have a very small selection and not much to select from. But I got lucky since they had one pair which worked for me. 3rd Service - the optometrist was nice so the 2 stars. The frontdesk was busy talking among themselves and not interested in the customers. Their hours are very frustrating and not flexible some days they open at 9am and somedays at 10am. Somedays they close at 3pm. So you need to plan your day as per their schedule. Will never come back. read more

With no hesitation, the staff of lovely ladies welcomed me, and immediately helped me in picking out a pair of specs for my new pair of glasses. Since my prescription had expired, Dr. Nguyen was able to squeeze me in for an eye exam within half an hour or less. Not only did she provide a thorough exam, she helped to ship my glasses to my apartment in Davis, since I'm going to school there. Extremely convenient, indeed. I just started going to Bella a few months ago, and I couldn't be happier. My eyes are pretty bad, far sighted with strong astigmatism in both eyes and some particularly strong cornea shaping on the right eye. My previous contact lens prescription was a couple years old, and I hadn't been fully happy with it prior to that. Dr. Shroff and her team basically started from scratch with my prescription, making some important measurements on my eyes that my past optometrist had never done, and taking the time to explain the implication of the results (and how the results could improve my insurance coverage!). Dr. Shroff has then worked with me on a few different trial sets of contact lenses, actually assessing them in the office and working with me to identify changes, rather than just sending me home with the trial sets to try them out. My experience so far speaks to Dr. Shroff being both a good technical optometrist and encouraging a good doctor-patient relationship. The staff at Bella has been great as well, professional, helpful, and friendly. read more

First time being here because I just moved to this area and I found this place via Yelp. I was really disappointed at the service I received. During to the examination, I felt like she just wanted to get it done ASAP. She sounded like a robot for the entire time and she was rushing through the entire process. I felt like this was not a good exam because she was pushing me for an answer. And the end, I looked at how much was charged to my bill. Dr. Nguyen only spent less than 10 mins with me and charged total of $190 to my insurance. She has definitely not provided a thorough exam and by far the worst optometry I have been to. If I can pick again, I would not come to this place again. read more

Let me clarify, Dr. Nguyen was pretty helpful and nice. However, the rating is more for the experience here. The boyfriend needed new glasses because his current ones were super scratched and getting way to worn out. I found a groupon for Bella Eye Care so we decided to check it out. He didn't need a prescription or anything because he already had one, so we stopped in to grab some new glasses for him. The actual experience when we went in was okay, but it was the after experience was a pretty big bummer. After picking out some nifty looking frames, they said that they'd call us in 7-10 business days to pick it up. Waiting for things you need is never fun, but if you have to wait past the quoted time then that kind of sucks. So we called before the 10 days were up just to see if we were lucky enough to get them early. No glasses. Okay, that's fine. Then the 10 day mark went up, we waited two more days and called again. Again, no glasses. Really, now? Like that wasn't a bummer enough, but the guy that answered the phone was pretty rude. I explained the situation to him and it kind of ended with, "uh, listen we said we'd call you when the glasses arrived". I wanted to hit him right back and say "Yeah, that's what you said but you also said it'd take 7-10 business days" but I didn't. Whatever. So then my bf actually needed glasses because his broke in half...greattt. He called shortly after, the same guys picked up and pretty much said the same thing (only ruder I guess, according to the bf). The next day they called us and said it was ready (FINALLY), but said they something about how they forgot to call for the case. Lovely. They told us we could pick it up in two days. Dr. Judy Nguyen is truly amazing. She is really personable and sociable. I'd been to many optometrists over my 10+ years of wearing corrective lenses and she is the best Doctor I seen. I recommend her 110%! Bella Eye Care looks like a small practice from the outside, but they really outdone themselves in interior decorations, combining comfort with technology. The range in designer glasses is overwhelming, so you will be able to find the right glasses for you. They even offered to look online in order for you to find your perfect frames.
