There were other people milling about, including two maintenace workers painting the I-Beams. The restrooms were impeccably clean and well-maintain, which is great because I'm a stickler about public bathrooms. The exterior landscaping and buildings were also in excellent condition. Southbound: Not a rest area especially for pets who do need to relieve themselves as much as humans do on long drives. Was walking with my dog on the sidewalks he was in the grass alongside me on leash and this worker is near the playground which we weren't on yelling and confronting me to not get on the playground and gesturing that dogs have to relieve themselves far away. There is no signage of this where they only have a strict small area to relieve themselves also where she was pointing was super far away from the cars so as a female unsafe if it was so but it isn't no signage or anything of such, she was just making things up. Also distracting my dog from being able to go because have to listen to an enraged person. Recommendation: Hold it. read more

Stopped here on way back from Dallas while driving to San Antonio. Restrooms were clean except some water on the floor. There was plenty of parking there. The vending machine area had a good selection. I ended up getting a Monster Energy Drink. There is a playground and an exercise area. If you need a good quick rest stop, then my first suggestion is Buccees. If you can not wait for a Buccees then this is a good second choice. read more

This is both a test area and a place you can go to if there is a storm you need shelter from. There were about a dozen or more tables you can eat at that were in the shade mostly. They had a play ground that was not shaded. Their restrooms and vending machines were in an air conditioned building which felt amazing in this summer heat. The storm shelter is in the same building as the restrooms. The bathrooms were nice enough for a state rest stop and the area felt safe which is important. read more

Beautiful rest area in TX on 35 as I was traveling from Corpus Christi to the Dallas area. Huge! Nice, clean restrooms. Well stocked. Several vending machines located indoors. History info posted about the area. Lots of shade and flowers and trees. Ample parking. A play area for the kiddos. Picnic areas. A very nice rest area to make a pit stop. We stopped on our drive from Waco to Austin. Clean grounds and facility. Lots of history to read about, which we didn't have time to do. Men's room was closed for cleaning when we visited, so my spouse used the family restroom. Ladies room stalls are short enough that if you're standing up you can make eye contact with the person next to you. Strange to me, but I'm also on the shorter side. Anyone could just peer over the top of the stall and see you doing your business. 4/5 for the uncomfortable open concept design. A beautiful rest area to enjoy a stop with great vegetation and facilities! Beyond the expertly designed facility, I was most thankful and surprised by the butterfly-enticing plants which were loaded with Queen butterflies and yellow skippers. I spent much longer at this rest area than expected marveling in their beauty and trying to take some nice photos! This made my drive soooo much more worthwhile! Super clean and well maintained! Spent a decent part of a day here during a severe weather event and the shelters offered felt incredibly secure and safe. If you're on the road and in need of somewhere to pull over for weather, or just rest, this is the place to do it. There are some neat historical displays inside to give you insight into the history of the area too. A pretty unique, lovely place and I will absolutely go back. Also, they have a playground for the kiddos, which when you're on a long trip and need to stretch out, this is perfect. This rest stop is a nice place to not only empty your bladder, but to let your pooch, spouse and other family members empty theirs. The bathrooms are large, and there are plenty. There is also a playground for the kids and a green area across the parking lot for Fido. Just be sure to pick up after him to keep the rest stop beautiful. There are picnic tables outside so if it isn't too hot, you can eat your road trip food and stretch out you legs. If you are a truck driver, there are plenty of spaces behind the rest area to park your rig as well. Overall, gone are the days of small rest areas. I'm a little weirded out that the height of the bathroom stalls is so short. I'm 5'3 and you can see my head over them! Which means someone a bit taller than me has an easy time just looking over into the stalls. There's too many weird people now a days and I wasn't comfortable that someone had the ability to just look at me while using the toilet. I also didn't appreciate that I had no service in the building. Truck stops are not always safe especially if you're a single female traveling and not having the ability to be able to call for help if need be isn't a good thing. Other than that they're the cleanest rest stops I've been too which is why I'm giving a 3 star review. read more

It's the perfect free stop for those who begin their trip from Dallas to Austin with a big drink of some kind. Roadside restrooms can be pretty disgusting so imagine my surprise when I found an abundance of toilet paper, a spotless floor, a clean toilet, pristine sinks and lots of scented (I promise) soap! But that's not all. The safety display is useful. Native plants and trees are everywhere. Stunning architecture incorporating Texas novelties. Lots of vending machines with candy, chips and drinks. This rest area is the cleanest I have seen on the way back from Austin! It is also indoors and have snack/vending machines. The inside has an interesting sculpture and there are safe areas for when there are tornadoes. (I think that is what they are meant for). But it is really clean, well-lit, and a pleasant place to literally have a rest and not feel like you are in danger of any sort. read more

They have storm shelters here! Basically a reinforced room. I saw one on one side and the other next to the room reserved for DPS. Inside the main area they had about five vending machines and something set up to explain how a tornado works. It was broken. Dang it. cleanest rest stop between dallas and Austin. They are on north and south bound sides and both are newer and equally as clean. Austin is in my work territory so I blaze a trail fairly regularly. This is my go to stop after the West Czech stop The stop has maps and indoor rest area. The restrooms are clean with updated automatic toilets, faucets and hand dryers. I don't recall if there are toilet seat covers are not however there are at least a dozen toilets so you don't have to be concerned with waiting during high travel season. There are also areas outside for picnic lunch, dogs to rest and use restroom, play area for kids and just space to walk your legs after a lot of driving. Plenty of handicapped parking for our disabled folks as well. I didn't recall if they had recycling bins or not. I'll check next trip and update my review on anything I may have missed! read more

One of the best rest areas Texas has to offer. Everytime I am on my way back from visiting Fort Worth, TX. I make sure that I stop here to let my kids get their anxiety of being in the car for so long. Clean rest rooms, storm shelters. They have both on south and north bound sides of 35. They have playgrounds to let your little rugrats let their energy out after driving you nuts for so long. LOL! Pristine bathrooms is A plus in my book!!! Long story short -- bathrooms almost as clean as Buc-ee's. Less crowds too. It's easy to get on and off the highway and easy to get in and do your "business." The snack machines aren't great, so you might be better off stopping at a convenience store. But heck, if you need a "break" and want to get out of the car for a bit, it's a great option.
