So, we just left Sky Ranch RV Park. Their website makes the place sound so awesome. But, then there…read moreis reality. This park is under new ownership for the last 2 years. There are roughly 50 functional sites. Many permanent folks. All very nice. However, with permanents you get lists of "stuff" piled up around the sites; broke down trucks, etc. The laundry/shower house is nice. Clean. There are 5 washers; all seemed to work. There are 5 dryers; 2 work. Good news the laundry is free. Take care of them. The security gate does not work so you do not need a code. It's okay, we never felt uneasy. There is no swimming hole. It's dried up and I don't think you really want to swim in it if it did. The fishing lake is beautiful and so clear you could see the fish. The property surrounding the campground is just so pretty. We were here 7 nights. All we kept saying to each other is, "this place has so much potential." Just pick up the trash, mow and kill the weeds. There are pieces of pipe and old sewer hoses just lying around. Finally, the RV sites are a little strange. There are two concrete strips to park on. For class RVs your jacks are not going to align, with the concrete. Anyway, when we first arrived we were a bit disappointed, but by the time we left we were like, "It's okay. It's a beautiful property and a campground with so much potential," I'm giving this camp 3 stars because it needs a little TLC.

We did a double take at the sign directing us to pull our travel trailer onto a runway, and looked both ways for aircraft. (We later learned the runway has been decommissioned.) The runway, which now serves as the main driveway, is a great option for evening walks. Location is pretty good - about a 15-minute drive to restaurants / stores in either Bertram or Liberty Hill, and about an hour to the wineries on 290. Area is secured by a gate - you'll get a contactless keycard when you check in. Private unisex bathrooms with showers for people and even an outdoor shower for your pet. There's a private ranch road (no motor vehicles allowed) for hikes. It leads to a refreshing swimming hole that is partially fed by a stream. Sit in one of the plastic lounge chairs and listen to the brook babble under your feet - or swim to the far edge for the "infinity pool" effect. The water is clear but the bottom is soft, so river shoes are helpful if you don't like the feeling of mud squishing between your toes. Walk further down to reach the lakeside patio, complete with water fountain and picnic tables. I encountered deer on almost every hike, but surprisingly not another soul. Nice place to enjoy a little solitude.

We stayed at the Lucky Horseshoe over the Fourth of July weekend with little notice. Stephanie, the…read moreproperty manager ensured that we would have a place to park for the long weekend and assured us it wasn't too late to make a reservation even though we did not reach out until the Tuesday Before. During our stay, the park hosted a cook out/BBQ in addition to a beautiful display of fireworks. What made Lucky Horseshoe stand out to us the most was no the location or amenities. It was the people. The residents were welcoming and while we had known several from other adventures, several took the time to introduce themselves and even bump elbows and tap shoes in greeting. The property manager, when not out on the property, was found three times in the patio she'd set up outside of her rig. She is as polite, friendly and approachable as the space she set up for herself. The park itself is carved out of a field with several young and mature cedar trees. The buildings are themed to the old west and their first two buildings have a draw to them that children will love. Other than the people, this park's best feature is the community garden which I missed taken pictures of. This is the first time I've seen something like this at an RV park and it's wonderful to see come into fruition. There is also a dog park which is great for our four legged friends. Some of the lot sizes are small and are definitely meant for smaller rigs. There are also many large and spacious sites that would well fit a full timer by not only providing a wonderful place to park, but also a generous space to set up outside living. As the park is carved out of a former field, you will want to spread diatomaceous earth on and around landing gear and jack stands, any place hoses or cables touch the ground and at the base of your stairs and wheels to ensure you don't get ants. This is definitely a community we found ourselves wanting to live in once our summer and fall travels have concluded. We even scoped out a few sites that we hope could be available in the future. The only draw back is that this park is currently cash/check only. As long as you are prepared for paper currency, you'll be all set.

The park manager is always on top of things and helps in anyway she can. They have a new volleyball court which is a fun way to Pass some time. The laundry mat is also a nice little western building to match the front office. They have a dog park and community garden! Love these features the most! Overall this park is very homey and has great service. Highly recommend!
