Who doesn't like caves and who knew they were so close to Austin! As someone who loves the Carlsbad Caverns these are a great experience on a smaller scale. All around an excellent time.

Inner Space Cavern is a cool place to visit! We chose the base price/tour option. The whole tour took about 50 minutes to complete. Our tour guide was funny and very knowledgeable. She had some cool facts and tried to be engaging with the large group of about 25 of us. Cons: Felt like the tickets were pretty pricey for the base ticket option (around $24 dollars per adult). The gift shop had a lot of Knick knacks and things geared towards mostly children. Everything seemed to be pretty pricey.

We had a blast at the inner space cavern on the adventure tour. The tour guide was a retired high school teacher and tons of fun. They offer two other tours the hidden passages tour which is a little more challenging and the rooms are not light, so you are given a flashlight for the tour and then there the wild cave tour that's 3-4 hours long and very difficult, so much that your instructed to wear old clothes and theres a wash station where you can clean up before you leave because there's lots of crawling and climbing and you get very dirty. They say the wild cave tour is not for everyone. The tour was about an hour and 15 minutes long. It was lots of fun and I would love to go back and try the hidden passages tour!

Inner Space Cavern was so cool! This cave system was discovered in 1963 when they were building Interstate 75. We did the "easiest" Adventure tour ($24.95 each) which is suitable for anyone over 3 years old, but they have more challenging options available as well. Our tour guide Jordan was phenomenal! Highly recommend this gem!

Tristan was fantastic! He was extremely well knowledgeable on his facts and hilarious. Overall great experience!

5 of 5 of the Texas Cave Tour and we finished close to home...Tour guide was fantastic...funny and kept the energy up. Although the tour was just over and hour it felt a bit rushed...lots to see thru the narrow passages, but hard to stop and look..take photos...Cave has a lot of history and some great stories as well....after this cave you realize there is a lot out there to see..dont sleep on it.

Rachel was lovely she made the experience. All the staff were super friendly and helpful, had no issues talking with them what so ever. Any questions I had about booking, merchandise, and intrusions were handled with the upmost professionalism and patience. The tour itself was lovely, and we again, had Rachel, who absolutely loved her job, or was good at pretending she did hahaha, I only jest! Who the heck says I only jest anymore??? Huh???? Anyway, the cave itself is beautiful, we went on the most basic tour and I and my friend learned the most interesting things about the formations, history and creativity put into the cave. If you are a geology, paleontology, or just nature loving nerd I highly recommend! Don't forget water! After the cave there was still fun to be had, the sifting through dirt for the fossils bucket and gem bucket was incredibly fun. Though it felt childish to do, when I saw those fossils it felt worth it! My friend got many beautiful gems and I myself got some nifty bone rocks. The souvenirs are nice, the experience is lovely, and I definitely would love to come back again for one of the adventure tours!

We stopped by this place on our way home from Austin and I thought our kids would like this place. We all had a great time. We did the basic tour, our tour guide was really great with a funny sense of humor. The tour was a nice easy walk and there was just so much beauty to see in the cave. Our kids loved it. Definitely worth the money, and they have a cute gift shop with a photo op spot. For an additional price we did the sabor tooth ride and the gemstone mining. The mining was worth it and the kids enjoyed it, and the ride was actually really fun, but a little pricey. All in all this was a really great family place to learn and have fun.

Enjoyed the cave tour! Dwayne was a great tour guide!! He had interesting stories and kept the group entertained! The caves are interesting! Fun to stop in and visit while in the area. Especially if you've never been to a cave.

This place was awesome! We did the Adventure Tour and I was very impressed with our tour guides knowledge level as she seemed really young. Each room was cooler than the next and it was also really nice to get out of the Texas heat so I definitely recommend as a family activity. There is a good amount of walking though so larger people should be advised. The ticket prices are reasonable for how long the tour is. Very cool family friendly thing to go to do.

We took the intermediate tour, and it was very well worth the price. Our guide, Dwayne, was a wonderful person and very interesting to listen to. He knows so much about the cavern, and just has so experience in general! Awesome experience. It was also my first time going into a cave, and they made it very enjoyable. If you do the intermediate tour or harder please be wearing proper footwear! It's a little wet!

My wife and I are addicted to going into natural caves and enjoying the gorgeous splinter of them and how they're made and created and each corner is a magical moment. We discovered this along our drive around the Austin Texas area that when we got out of the country a little bit we saw the sign and couldn't resist. It's quite an operation that they have going on there and there's all sorts of things for everyone to do on all sorts of levels in a great gift shop and food. But the caverns is why we were there. We got our tickets and they did offer a military discount, which was awesome. Everyone was very nice and polite and made sure that we got on the next tour going out and we found out our tour leader's name was Miranda. We met Miranda and she was a dynamo full of energy and information and ready to go down with the same energy for every single tour that she led. She's an asset to a business like this. We followed the tour down down down into the cave and from the top of the bottom they say it's about a mile so you have to figure it's about a mile back and it is uphill. I'm slightly handicapped so I kept this in mind but I did fine. They make sure that there's plenty of railings to hold onto it's graded and so you're not dealing with lots of steps and it made it very Comfortable for me to navigate the caverns which were immaculate and beautiful. The thing I loved about this one the most is they're very safety, conscious and caring for the caverns to make sure that they remain live caverns. The tides and stall leg tights and everything is still growing on the inside because people are not allowed to smoke vape bring food in or touch anything. And we're fine with that. As it should be. Miranda gave us all the facts and figures and information about what we were looking at and how they were created and we really really got our moneys worth. She was a lot of fun and she had great energy and it worked out wonderfully for us on this tour. We would do it again in a minute. Thank you, Miranda for making this a very memorable trip. I recommend everybody, and we had everything from children that were small right up to senior citizens so this cave is for everyone. And talk about gorgeous OMG.

Inner Space Cavern Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Inner Space Cavern

Is it cold?

We went during the hottest part of summer and inside the caverns was about 70-72 degrees. Everyone was in short sleeves and either shorts of jeans, it was comfortable and not cold. I can't say how it'll be during a cooler part of the year though.

Is it a good idea to bring an older person (84 yrs)? What is the distance that you're walking over the course of the 1hr 15min tour?

No it's not. It's a pretty tough uphill walk after going all the way down into the cavern

What's a good time to go?

School is out so you won't have to worry about large school groups. Going on a hot afternoon is nice as it is a constant temperature cavern. Otherwise, it makes no difference.

I did a wild cave tour without the extra charges that Longhorn collects. At Longhorn, our guide, Johnson did an amazing job with our small group of six people for the 10:45 AM tour. My brother and I initially registered for the 11:00 AM tour and am glad that we were suggested another time. We passed by the 11:00 AM tour and they had 40+ people in their group. Johnson showed us cool geological formations. We saw dolomite, calcium bicarbonate, chert, limestone, geodes, stalagmites, stalactites, and quartz crystals. Johnson is somewhat funny; he had a bit of quirky and dry humor. I enjoyed the history of the caverns, but some of it I thought was interesting. It was really delightful to learn that in the 1800's, before the CCC got involved, the locals would dance and play music turning the cave into an auditorium of entertainment. Johnson said that if certain geological formations glows, it is growing. Very catchy phase for memory. I got to see a few bats hanging out. They were tricolor bats which are smallest bats. The cave is cool, but thankfully not slippery. I was wearing no grip support shoes, but I didn't fall or have the urge to fall. There are mats on the floor of the cave to prevent falls. Johnson gave us more time to look around and admire the geology. My brother and I weren't required to bring our own flashlights. Johnson had a flashlight, but forgot to grab the blacklights. What I find is strange is that this is a state park that you cannot renew your state park pass at. This park headquarters is very different than the rest considering that there's a third party company handing the cave tours, they sell ice-cees, popcorn, and the gift shop is very big and vast. The others don't have this. It is questionable to me. I was told that I needed to go to Inks Lake to renew my pass. The cave tours are very pricey. Kickapoo Caverns tour was very affordable at $10. You can use the park pass. You can't get your state park passport stamped at Longhorn Caverns either. It seems like Longhorn Caverns is more for profit and the history about the cavern could be overly exaggerated to attract customers. My opinion. It was hard to believe half of the things what Johnson was telling us. There's one portion of geological formation in the cave that is "dead" because in year 1919, the locals went exploring by touching the formation it "killed" it. I preferred Kickapoo Caverns and the Caverns of Sonora a lot more. Even Inner Space Caverns and Natural Bridge were very exciting to see. Longhorn is cool, but didn't give me that WOW-factor, but I still had a ton of fun on a Sunday morning.

Our guide shared stories about the cavern's formations including the stalactites and stalagmites. My favourite spot was the Cathedral area with its open space and unique rock shapes. Above ground, the park is just as lovely. There are short trails around the park in the middle of Texas Hill Country. Whether you're into geology, history, or just looking for a cool escape from the Texas heat, Longhorn Cavern is worth the trip out of the city.

So this is a grandparents perspective. Upon arrival to the depot area, there is no indication of event parking as the lighting was very poor at 6:15 at night. The web site mentioned free parking but had no maps of the area. What I saw coming from the east, was a long row of cars parked in a Hodge podge fashion along the tracks. We ended up parking by the library across the highway. (Short walk with a light to cross with). I'll mention this again later. I came across a small sign in the middle of a crowd that says "no alcohol, no weapons licensed or otherwise." Would be nice to know before this Texan shows up armed. So had to run back to the car to secure my weapon. Ehh, minor inconvenience. BTW, the rules are on the web site. We pick up our tickets at will call and wait. The train comes up and parks. The engine was a short haul/swicher unit, no steam, with very beautiful vintage passenger cars. My family's car just happened to stop right in front of us, #41. We boarded and it was like going back in time. We found our seats easy enough. However, keeping in mind, either people were a lot taller and thinnier back then, or they have tall tables and do like airlines and add extra tables. It was tight. Little wiggle room for an adult. If you are in the window seat, you get to look forward and to the side. You cannot turn around to see what is behind you. If you adjust your seat, you are bumping the person behind you. And trust me, every car is packed. Being a night trip, there is nothing to see outside. So bring stuff for the kiddos to do and snacks and drinks. The two hour trip is loud. Kids are loud, and you have adults talking over the kids. My train enthusiast self went on an exploring expedition through a lot of the other cars. Some like mine had 4 person tables, others 4 person commuter recling seats with no tables. Some had one bathroom available others had two. I stood between two cars and just watched the scenery go by. It was a refreshing change to the snot-monsters noise in my car. The endless coco was good. Very hot. Eventually a minstrel came out and started some interactive Christmas carols. Pretty good. Simultaneously, a balloon guy came out making hats and the sorts for the kids. Then out came the forgetable part, a story teller. Hard to hear, not well versed in the story and choppy in her reading. Alas, Mrs Clause with some very different tasting, highly addictive cookie for everyone, saved the day. The highlight of the adventure was Santa. The staff had his appearance very organized and orderly. Each table had a chance to take photos with the big guy. The most unimaginable gift was given. A wooden train whistle to about 15-20 kids, my own grandkids included. Imagine if you will, about 30 minutes left in the trip with the incessant "tweet-tweet-tweet" penetrating that one nerve that goes from your ears to your feet and makes your spine want jump out of the window. Now, after a engine switch from one end to the other delay, we headed into the depot. We didn't exit the way we got on. We got on the depot side (city side), and exited on the parking lot side. Well that's fine and great. But if you park on the city side, you are blocked by the train with only two ways to get to your vehicle. Oh yes, I said a bunch of nasty, nasty cuss words. You either wait for a full train to disembark and hope they let you walk through, or, you walk around the shortest part of the train and back to the crossing light I mentioned earlier. So that's the trip review. But now to the staff. Man those cats get 5-stars. Friendly, informative and in character. I can't imagin doing that trip 5-6 times a day. They made an otherwise blah trip much, much nicer. This is a one time experience with kids. Maybe, someday, my wife and I will try a romantic trip through hill country or something like that.

It was, however, a delightful surprise! The shop had a wide variety of bee-related items from tools and clothing for serious bee keepers to honeys and honey-sweetened candies to bee-themed household goods. So cute!! We were treated to a honey tasting, which (like wines) started with the lighter colored and flavored honey (a local honey) up to the darker honeys, then we veered off and were sampling cinnamon honey (think Red Hots + honey), coffee and chocolate flavored, and (my favorite) chili-infused honey.
