We needed a couple of items and some folks who live here suggested Belk. We visited about the time they opened for the day. One clerk was near nearly dismissive and appeared unwilling to engage or help when we inquired about an item. Another person engaged and asked if we needed help. They helped us find the items we were looking for and when I inquired about price - she checked the prices. Once I decided to purchase - I noted the prices rang up differently (higher) and I asked why the price was different. She stated that I needed a coupon and seemed a bit exasperated with me for asking about it. Regardless, she helped me obtain the app/discount and I was grateful. I went here to get some cologne when I was getting I realize that this cologne selection was really good. They had amazing service and pretty good retail price. when I checked out one of the staff members gave me a free Invictus shampoo she was very helpful in finding what I wanted. Selected a garment clearly marked 50% off only to be told at checkout only items on 1 side of rack were on sale. Associate quickly removed 50% off sign and told me repeatedly I should scan items in app for prices. Very poor customer service, bordering rude. Not what I would expect from a retailer. Stopped in belk. Couldn't find anyone to check me out. One sales person kept looking at me at counter and did not ask to help. I'm sure there are very professional sales people, but today I didn't observe this. This was my first time in belk as I'm visiting, can't say it was the best first impression. read more

Five of us on a girl trip! We love to shop at Belk! And we spend a lot of money there. However, we left there tonight disappointed in the customer service. One of the girls was in the dressing room and the lady said, well I guess the rack didn't work! Then she said don't trip the rack as you walk out. Very snappy! The website says they close at 9, however, at 7:45 we got the 15 minute warning they were closing at 8 and make our final purchases. We were scrambling to a checkout. One of us went to checkout and the lady said, she had closed out her register. Really? She was not doing anything! No excuse! All of us finally found a register! It was ridiculous! read more

I can count on her to pick out things I like even when I'm not there. I always find blouses and jeans and most of the time they are on sale for enormous discounts. This is my bad. I packed our car for a trip to our Florida home and I forgot our overnight bag for Hilton Head. Boy did that not go well with the wife. We were told to go to Belk Stores near where were staying to buy some replacement clothing. What a huge women's and men's store. Both were in separate buildings. Our first time in these department stores and we found everything we needed. The staff was incredibly helpful and sympathetic. Well, my wife found more than she actually needed and I surely paid the price for my mistake. read more

This store is good and so is the staff. The negative comments should be directed to the regional management of this store location, It is consistently understaffed. Weeks ago I witnessed a lone shoe department employee remain cheerful during a sale. This department looked like a bomb hit it. Shoes were piled everywhere with one employee! Disgraceful. The store is what is left from an old mall. They are rebuilding the area into an outdoor shopping area and should be nice when done. For now, Belk is still open. It's a decent sized store but like most Belk's has way too many items shoved into the space. You can barely walk through the sections b/c the racks are so close together. I had to run in here for a bathing suit while on vacation and was pleasantly surprised with the selection. They also let me use a belk coupon but not put it on a belk card. So the service was excellent! read more

Belk is nice if you need to run somewhere to find a specific item in a pinch. For me, it's hit or miss shopping here (women's clothing). Shopping here during the summer is great because there's a lot of great new clothes on the racks as well as sale items at a big discount. I just shopped here days after Christmas, which wasn't a great idea. There were racks of tons of clothing on sale, but everything good was taken. Belk has a good shoe section, but that is also hit or miss. Jewelry & accessories are great at Belk because there's a large selection. The makeup and perfume section is pretty good at Belk. They have a lot of the high-end brands to try. The lingerie section has a wide clarity to choose from and you'll certainly find what you need there. There are nice fitting rooms available in most sections of the store. I wouldn't come here if you want to shop for your preteen or teen though; there's not a lot for them. I just read a review by someone who extolled the virtues and wonderful service offered by Noreen in the Michael Kors section. She is the tops. She makes my shopping at the store a delight. She is very helpful, courteous, efficient and the greatest asset the store has. I wouldn't shop as much as I do in the Store if it wasn't for her helping me. Even if I have a return without a receipt, she goes out of her way to find my item and get it returned for the correct amount. I always look for her when I go into the store to shop. I affectionately call her Knuckles since she uses her knuckles to work the cash register and I often kid her about it. I shop a lot at Belk's and I wouldn't if it wasn't for the ability to have Noreen ring up my purchases. I often notice other customers will go out of their way to have Noreen do their purchases too. I met the BEST Department store associate in the world right at the Belk's in Hilton Head. Noreen is the reason why I continue to shop at Belk. Her level of service is unbelievable and without her I would have thrown away my credit card. I don't live on the island, and frankly I found the website to be time consuming and not the best user experience. Noreen eliminated all of my issues and has become my personal shopper. This Belk is different from most locations since it is split into two different buildings. The men's department has a decent selection, but is far less than the Belk at the Citadel Mall and Oglethorpe Mall. Since the mall was torn down and they've been building up this part of Shelter Cove, Belk has rearranged their store to make more sense and allow for a little larger aisles which have made it easier to look around. However, in the corner where the blankets and pillows are it is very hard to move around and you often have to climb over stuff on the floor because of a general lack of space. The employees on the Home part of the store are by far some of the friendliest employees I've ever seen at a Belk store. I'm not a big fan of the employees who work in the Men's department, however. read more

Hands down the best customer service I have experienced in a Belk store, and I am a frequent shopper. Sandra, at the Chanel counter, was very friendly and actually knew something about the fragrances she was selling, unlike many of the associates I've encountered at other locations. The Women+Children and Men+Home Stores are in separate buildings, which is somewhat inconvenient for those who like to browse in several departments. For a store that's notorious for cramming a lot of product into a small space, Belk needs to shine in the customer service department and this is a fine example of that. A++ read more

My husband and I went to Belk to buy men's dress pants for more casual cooler summer work wear. Store has decent selection for men's dress but the male staff were not impressive at all. The male working in clothing did not ask if we needed help finding anything, which left me searching entire store for options. My husband found trousers he liked and wanted to try dress shoes with pants to see how they looked with shoes on. The male shoe department guy was hesitant to let him when I first asked. I told him that we needed slim European looking shoe and not Frankenstein shoe. The shoe rep then told me wouldn't allow my husband to try on expensive shoe if he wasn't buying them & then gave me bulky Frankenstein shoe. It looked ridiculous with the pant. My husband almost didn't get pants because of shoe, so I told him to ignore shoe. He ended up finding dress trouser, jacket & shirt. Because the shoe guy was so rude and the other male sales rep Mia, we walked to other side of store to find a friendly lovely sales lady to check us out. I used to love this store BUT it has turned in to a overstocked mess. The dressing rooms are filthy and stocked with garments people don't want. Employees are rude and not helpful. I wish I could give them a big, fat ZERO! I shopped the women's store for almost 2 hours and with the exception of the lady who rudely pointed me in the direction of the Lily Bloom bags, I did not get greeted by 1 single person or asked if I need help. I shopped the Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren section...same. No greeting, help or anything. I finally went to check out and went to the Lilly Pulitzer register to run into the snootiest clerk. She was messing with the tissue paper as she chatted it up with a customer who had an arm full of Lilly P. items who was just shopping, not even waiting to check out. She turned around twice and saw me standing there waiting to check out. She never said can I help you, I will be with you in a moment...nothing. I wish I had gotten her name so I could name her on here. I went to another register instead of wasting anymore time with her. That was my crappy experience in the women's Belk here in Hilton Head and really don't care to go back. My husband, in the meantime, was shopping over in the separate men's store. He came back to tell me he left 3 shirts laying there at the check out because of the lack of help. He walked around the entire store trying to find someone to ring him up. There was 1 lady in Home Goods but she was working on getting someone approved for a credit card. He walked around to try and find someone else and a manager told him there is a clerk in Home Goods that can ring him up. He explained to her the wait there and there was no offer for any other remedy. As he walked the whole store again, he could still only find the 1 clerk who was still trying to get the customer approved for a credit card. So he just kindly put his items down and left the store. As far as the condition of the store...a mess. I walked past a cart loaded with make up orders sitting in the middle of the aisle as I walked back to shoes and handbags. When I walked back by almost 2 hours later, still sitting there. Racks are a mess throughout the store and my husband said the men's/home store was the same. Stuff in the aisles everywhere. Store is a mess. Mdse in women's clothing, purses and shoes all unorganized. Associates standing around doing nothing to tidy up their depts. Well I have NEVER been treated so ride in my.life. I was shopping at this Belk in Hilton Head and was not even asked if I could be helped. I went in the dressing room to try on some nightgowns and when I returned I stood in line. I finally got help and asked for a price check on a few items. I was abruptly told that there were scanners available in that department. I told her that I didn't see them but I would be happy to go look for it. She said no I will do it this time. I apologized that i was from out of town visiting. Then the other sales clerk about nocked me over to go get clothes out of the dressing room which I left hung up. She stormed out of the dressing room and slammed the clothes on the counter and stared me down. I guess I was suppose to bring them out, sooooo sorry. I couldn't take much more and walked away from the cute nightgowns I had tried on because I refuse to do business with rude people. Geeeezzz. I guess they were just too busy to make money. read more
