    Car crash before Bela Development

I had a car crashed into my building, which made a large hole in the living room. Bela Development was selected out of seven estimates. It was a long process working with the insurance, but Tom from Bela Development was professional and throughout to shepherd us through the insurance process and eventually completed perfectly. Any reasonable requests I had, Tom and the team accommodated them. The results are fabulous.

I was genuinely excited to speak with someone about plans for our home, specifically to get an estimate for building an ADU. Unfortunately, my experience with Bela Development, particularly with the consultant who came to our property, was extremely disappointing and uncomfortable. When I scheduled the appointment, I was never told that my husband needed to be present. So when the consultant arrived, he immediately seemed irritated and dismissive toward me, insisting that he "needed to speak to my husband" even though I explained he was at work. He pressured me to call him anyway, and when my husband answered, the consultant took the phone and started speaking to him in a condescending tone. He even said, "You don't buy a car without seeing it," as if my husband shouldn't trust my judgment or as if I wasn't capable of discussing our own home project. It came off extremely sexist. When my husband asked for an estimate (literally the whole reason we scheduled the consultation) the consultant responded mockingly and told him his understanding of ADU costs was "wrong." My husband had to get back to work and ended the call, and the consultant wrapped it up with, "Next time you do something like this, make sure you're here, not just your wife." That comment alone was enough for me to mentally check out. After that, his attitude shifted only when I mentioned different renovation ideas. Suddenly he became friendly and sales-driven, which felt insincere after the way he treated me for the first half of the appointment. He also promised a follow-up email with information we discussed, but I never received anything, further proving he wasn't genuinely interested in helping. Overall, the experience felt disrespectful, unprofessional, and blatantly sexist. I left feeling uncomfortable and undervalued as a customer. Because of this interaction, I would not recommend Bela Development. After posting my original review and follow-up, and after clearly requesting no further contact in writing, a representative of Bela Development returned to my home the following morning and left handwritten notes on my door asking that I remove the review. This visit was uninvited and occurred after I had requested no further communication. I am documenting this here so readers are aware of the continued follow-up related to my review. I continue to stand by my original review and respectfully request no further contact.

From start to finish, Bela development was a pleasure to work with! They helped our preschool to rebuild a playhouse and design and create an entirely new riverbed feature in summer 2025. Excellent communication, flexibility, and competitive pricing. We look forward to working with them in the future!

Ben and his crew were very communicative and easy to work with. They also gave me the most reasonable quote and went over and beyond for my condo. I had dealt with a roof leak and contractors that were the opposite - unreliable, negligent, sloppy, and fraudulent, so it was REFRESHING to find scrupulous contractors that stood by their work. They redeemed my nightmare (a torn out ceiling by a lazy roofer) into something beautiful. I love waking up in the morning to rays of sunshine shining through a gorgeous skylight they installed. They also installed a redwood ceiling that simultaneously elevated and warmed up my home. I will keep adding photos to this review because they simply provided an exquisite canvas for authentic comfort.

Quality is really bad. Actually we want to write this review one year ago. Just check out the photos attached below. The guy name is Ben, he's very nice before we complained about the quality issues over the year, he was yelling, screaming on the phone tried to find the solution....... We paid 29000 for a shitty fence, then Ben told us that because we didn't pay enough so we only can get this quality in the end. Unbelievable

Top-quality work, on-time and on budget. Bela Development did a complete remodel of the master bathroom in our condo and we are very pleased. When mold and water damage was discovered behind the tile in the shower, they stepped up the schedule and got it cleaned, remediated and repaired quickly before continuing on to finish the job. It was a complete remodel. The room was gutted, mold and water damage discovered and remediated. The large window by the bathtub was converted to a narrower window higher up on the wall, the smaller window was replaced, then everything else was redone; new vanity, mirror, lights, automatic ceiling fan, toilet, tub and shower, all plumbing, plus wall tile fot the shower (with a nice cubby for shampoo, etc.) and vinyl flooring. The room was repainted with high quality paint and all fixtures were installed. They also replaced the old pocket door with a proper door. As a bonus, they replaced the nearby closet door with a matching door at no extra charge. The bathroom is now like a luxury spa; beautifully done, solid as a rock. We are very happy with the results. There were a few hiccups, a few problems that cropped, up, but Yossi and his team addressed them quickly. I recommend Bela Development for any remodeling work you need done in your home. From the very beginning, Ben has been incredibly professional, attentive, and proactive. What truly sets him apart, however, is his genuine heart and empathy for his clients. My mother's business had to be put on hold during this process, which was an unexpected and stressful time for our family. Ben didn't just treat us like another project; he truly understood our situation. He worked tirelessly to resubmit plans and handle corrections as fast as possible because he genuinely wanted my mom to be able to get back to work and reopen her shop. It's rare to find someone who takes your personal success so personally. Beyond his expertise, Ben's pricing is very reasonable and fair, he is not overpriced at all, which is hard to find in this area. He was also incredibly helpful and understanding by allowing us to pay in installments while the business was closed. This financial flexibility was a lifesaver for us and showed his true character as someone who wants to help, not just make a profit. If you want an architect who is highly skilled, honest, and truly cares about your family and business, Ben is the one to call. We are so grateful for everything he's done. Thank you Ben!

Having worked with them for 2 years, I now realize most of these reviews are either (1) 5+ years old or (2) from people who work there - Alex S, J M, etc. I spent about $120k and the last 2 years on a 4-bedroom remodel with Letter Four. I have *nothing* to show for it. No plans, no permits, nothing. Just a home that I cannot live in with some holes in the walls and ceilings (they just enough minor demo that I can't live there and then they disappeared - fun!) What I do have are shady invoices (they pad their invoices, double-charge you, refuse to send you receipts even after you ask 5x, charge you for everything they can with a 20% markup - Ubers, printing fees, software fees, etc). What really bothered me is that they pay their Project Managers almost nothing and then they charge you $200/hr for those PMs work. When I tried to do calls with them to understand the invoicing, instead of listening and admitting their mistakes when they very clearly double-charged me for the same things - they yelled at me. The owner Jeremy talked over me the entire call. (To his credit, he did apologize for not letting me get a single word in - he said something like "I've been told I do this to women"). If you want to work with two really arrogant people who want to talk a lot about how great they are and how right they are but won't listen - by all means, sign up to work with these folks. The work itself isn't just subpar and sloppy - it's actually unusable. They were constantly making mistakes - you'd send them measurements and then get the plans and everything would be the wrong size. I never got a window schedule that had windows that matched the plans. They never got approval for a permit for the plans they created. They made so many mistakes, it's laughable. I hired a new Engineer and Contractor who both can't stop cracking up about Letter Four's work. "This isn't even to scale! Look, they have the downspouts at the highest points of the roof! Look at this - that part must be a joke, right?!" For the prices they charge and how arrogant they are about their experience, they deliver really sub-optimal work. They claim their high hourly fees and high-end rates will make your remodel easy for you - but I found that working with them is 5x more work than with my new contractor. (Message me if you want his info - he's *amazing*). Finally, their design aesthetic is really cheesy. It doesn't match any of the photos in their portfolio. All their design proposals felt something you'd see in a cheap flip. It was a total waste of money to pay for a "design + build" firm because I ended up designing every inch of it myself. Another reviewer called them "awkward" and I 100% found that to be the case. Their online portfolio is great, but actually working with them is a total nightmare on every level. Most people don't love their contractors - but you will LOATHE these people. I guess if you want some cool horror stories about your remodel, this is the company for you!

We hired Ron to do the architectural plans for the remodel of a fourplex. He came in with a fancy camera scanner to measure everything, a very efficient process. After we began work on the project, we discovered a beam in the ceiling was not pointing in the right direction, leading to the need for a revision to the plans. The engineer Margarito went on site and approved changes, which allowed us to quickly adapt. It was also hard to find someone willing to take on a smaller project at a fair price, and they were very thorough. Even months later, they've still been responsive with follow-up questions from our contractor. Would definitely recommend, especially for smaller renovations or additions.
