I'VE NEVER HAD A WORSE MOVING EXPERIENCE than I did when we moved from WI to PA with Bekins. With the exception of the local agent at our departure in WI, Rene at JL Moving, LLC, The entire experience with Bekins was a nightmare. Our possessions were damaged, broken, disassembled, late and destroyed. At a time that was already stressful, our experience with them only compounded what we were dealing with at the time. When we finally had time to use their cumbersome online form to file a claim, we got a response from the company that stated that they received our property in its damaged condition. Now, if Bekins wants to decline liability based on our deductible, that's one thing. But to deny items in the claim because of the way they falsely assessed them is just plain wrong and insulting. It suggests that we have nothing better to do than to submit false information. As a customer who paid a considerable sum to hire Bekins for this move, we found that completely unacceptable. Additionally, they were provided with plenty of pictures to back up our claim. Allow me to share additional information on our moving experience with Bekins: Our last day of Agreed Delivery Date was 6/10/19 - we received them on 6/16, SIX days past the date and at considerable inconvenience to us. My husband works from home and needed to set up his office. In addition, we had help scheduled once our things got here and we had to extend a stay at the local location. Our belongings were transferred and retransferred in transit, we were told a trailer broke down. Because of this, all the protective packing was removed (the local agent in WI did a great job with that) and furniture was stacked on top of other furniture causing some of this damage. There is no doubt that the additional handling was very damaging to our boxes and loose items that couldn't be packed in boxes. Our shipment was combined with someone else's, so all of their things had to be taken off the truck and put in our garage before ours could be unloaded, causing a mix up in some things getting to the right place. Although we were reimbursed for the cost, we had to arrange transit for a bicycle tire to the other customer ourselves. Clearly not our job. The manner of how the boxes were stacked was pretty shocking. Heavy boxes were stacked on top of lighter boxes, crushing contents and destroying cartons to the point where they were split open. See photos. Since the delivery was so screwed up, the crew was called in at the last minute and were in such a hurry that we couldn't give them proper instructions on where to put things, check things for damage or see whether we had missing items as they were unloaded and carried in. It was so rushed that there was no way to be sure the condition of anything on that day. It was Father's Day and they all wanted to be with their families. The room was extremely limited on the trailer that finally arrived here. Because of that, many items that were intact when they left us were disassembled when they got here. The dining room table, our bikes, all of our patio furniture, shelving and more were in pieces. Since we didn't take them apart, we had no idea how to put them back together. The movers helped with some of that but left us with parts and pieces for some, which caused additional chaos on moving day. Even though they have agreed to repair the gouges in our dresser and the dings in our standing mirror, they claimed all the rest was like that when they got it. Do not do business with this company under any circumstance. They removed my belongings from agreed upon long-term storage without my authorization. A truck driver called me one day randomly from New Jersey asking where I wanted my stuff, when it was supposed to be safe in Texas in storage. When my stuff was delivered, it looked like it had been kicked from Texas to Connecticut. Many damages and items treated with disrespect. Additionally, the company lost my bedding tools due to the fact they didn't follow their own "parts box process" leaving my son without a bed for 2 weeks when we finally moved. The company was unhelpful and took no accountability for what had happened (they even lied to me that my items were "safe" and refused to send me pictures of the items being received at an interim facility). I wrote a letter directly to the CEO given Bekins' claim that the Executive Leadership team is here to "ensure customer needs are met." Of course, Mr. Kirschner, Bekins CEO, can't be bothered calling me to discuss. So, basically, the company posts false and misleading information about their customer service commitments online. Once the truck arrived, the driver could not fit his tractor trailer into the storage lot. He rented a smaller truck and transferred all my items to the truck and then moved the items into storage on a 100 degree day with 100 percent humidity. Outstanding and way above and beyond. My mom and her husband paid Bekins 15k for a move from the OR Coast to Kansas. They have been staying with us for a month and their items are nearly a month overdue now I get it, that everyone is leaving the W Coast due to tyranny and other issues. BUT that doesn't excuse the fact they have probably have the worst customer service of any company we've ever dealt with. I really feel like they took advantage of my elderly mom. There were many excuses, no communication at points, no replies to calls and emails at other points. My mom is taking care of her husband who has dementia and the stress of all of this has just been horrific. I finally took it over and had to threaten a lawsuit, breech of contract and also a complaint with the FMCSA before we finally got some action. Honestly it's not even the month delay that is that bad... I get it, they are mowed under due to the W Coast being such a train wreck but communicate!! Tamika, Nikida and Julene in the office were terrific, answering all of my questions and keeping me updated on the schedule. The three men who did my NY move-out (sorry I forgot their names) handled all of my personal belongings with care and a terrific attitude even though they were working in freezing cold, rainy weather in February. My belongings were carefully stored at Bekins Maffucci's NY facility for 6 weeks until I was ready for them to deliver to Florida. My long-distance movers, Mike and George are terrific!! They arrived on-time (actually earlier than expected) and delivered everything with care, and nothing was damaged. They even went the extra mile and assembled a bed frame for me. Let me begin by saying that this is not my first cross country move. Therefore, I am knowledgeable on how to properly pack a television. The company that got me started in California was Antelope Valley Van & Storage. Mike Schaffer and his crew were AMAZING!!!!! However, the problem began once my items were delivered to Texas. I was missing a large box and as I opened the box containing my TV I could see the damage. I immediately called Bekins and was informed that I needed to file a claim, keep the box, and keep the TV for the adjusters to review. A tracker was placed for my missing box and it was located....delivered to the wrong family. Even after discovery, I waited and waited....no return. It was then that I went ahead and filed a claim. Suddenly my box was delivered within 2 weeks.....the claim for my TV was DENIED as they cannot "prove the condition of the television or if you packed it properly". That same TV was packed previously and moved from IN to CA without a scratch. Now, suddenly I don't know how to pack. By the way, who would pay money to ship a non working TV across the country....not me! It saddens me that this company offers free, standard coverage which would only pay less than $200 for the TV, but add insulting commentary to boot. Truly awful experience - lots of damaged goods and unprofessional service. We used Bekins for our cross-country move, thinking it would be "safer" to go with a larger company. This is not our first full-service, professional move, so we have realistic expectations (and understand that sometimes accidents happen). However I cannot accept the terrible service we got from Bekins in exchange for our $10,000. First, the loading crew and driver showed up a day early, and a full half-day before the packers arrived (late). So we got off to a rough start from the first moment, but hey - maybe it was a miscommunication? The packing crew was rushed (since the loading guys were standing around with nothing to do) and lazy, and it showed in their work. Whenever I would scan a room that was supposedly "finished", there would be obvious items they missed (and we're not talking ambiguous "should this stay or go?" stuff, I mean they would just leave dishes on the counter unpacked and call the kitchen done). The poor work ethic was annoying, but the actual job was unacceptable - on the receiving end we were shocked to discover that much of our goods had quite literally been thrown into boxes without any protective paper wrapping, and no consideration to how the boxes would shift and move during transport. It's inevitable that something is going to break, and that's life... but it's mind-blowing to delicately unwrap four layers of proactive paper, only to find a half-empty container of hand sanitizer (whew! good thing that was protected!), and then turn around and open a box and find that $1500 worth of electronics was haphazardly thrown in without a single piece of protective paper or wrapping. This is not hyperbole, this is quite literally what we discovered upon unpacking. I can handle damaged stuff (and we got quite a bit of it), because I understand that things happen. But I cannot accept it when the packers clearly did not even TRY to protect the goods. We have plenty more anecdotes on why it was a bad service all around, and lots of pictures of the terrible packing and damaged goods, but I'll save you the time. Bottom line: there are many other options out there, so do not waste your money with Bekins. read more

WARNING - they hired thieves to unload our goods who then stole from us - the crew Wheaton/Bekins hired to unload at destination stole my wife's diamond engagement ring and two gold bracelets from our master bathroom. Wheaton/Bekins says it's not their problem and gave me the impression they could care less; it must be a frequent occurrence to care so little. So even through I purchased the top level insurance from them for the move, they refuse to take any responsibility or even respond to my request for assistance in the mater. I reported it to the police, find out from the police detective that the unloading crew has criminal records - real bad people he said. So much for Wheaton/Beacons claim on their website they care about a customers safety and security during the move or that they conduct background checks on their employees - both lies to suck in unwary customers. All in all, a horrible experience with Wheaton/Beacons start to finish. Beside the theft of the ring and bracelets, they lost/stole a box containing a briefcase, damaged tables, crushed boxes, the driver and crew showed up almost two hours late to load, then took nine hours to load a two bedroom apartment onto their truck. At destination, crew showed up an hour late to unload, and then walked off the job before they finished (left after robbing me), leaving me and driver to unload my stuff for four hours! I have moved several times before and never have I hired such unprofessional movers, nor have I ever been robbed during a move. My advice, don't set your self up to be robbed, find a mover that actually does care about their customers safety and who really does conduct back ground checks on the people they send into your home. We hired Bekins for a move from New York to Denver. The actual move process went smoothly - the drivers showed up on time on both ends and unpacked the bags without much fanfare (which is the reason for the 2 stars). However, during our move process, a bin was never delivered and the driver did not check off the box on the "inventory control sheet." (During the move, the driver and the customer use this sheet to track all items and ensure a complete delivery.) He told me that he would return to the depot to look for the bin. He was not able to locate the bin and instructed that we submit a "tracer" for this bin, which we coordinated with headquarters to do. Accordingly, we never checked off the box for the missing bin. We did not hear further from headquarters so submitted a dispute letter regarding the missing bin. Several weeks later, we received a notice from the claims department indicating that their records "indicated that everything was delivered." Despite the fact that the box for bin #103 was clearly not checked, we had not filled out our initials in a box on the bottom, so they've relied upon this to attempt to dismiss our claim. The initial block prompt reads: "Were all items delivered?" and even though we did not fill this out with either a "yes" or a "no", they've used this to to dismiss our lost items. We are obviously disappointed in the outcome and will be following-up with them to hopefully achieve a satisfactory resolution. Regardless, we feel that the company has acted unethically in its dismissal of our claim based on selective information on the inventory control sheet. We are especially dismayed as we paid an extra $250 dollars for insurance. In total - smooth move day packing and unpacking, but morally dubious and even unethical behavior as we're trying to locate a missing bin. read more

I decided on this Company as it was local and had good reviews. This move was not inexpensive. They were late in picking up items. They were late delivering items. They did not take due care with my items. I took the time to mark the appropriate boxes with fragile items . They obviously disregarded that label as the boxes were crushed, They put heavy items on top of those boxes. Luckily, I packed very well and not a lot of damage to the fragile items but it was a shock when they delivered them. Now putting in a claim and they are denying some as "not on their list" when they packed them in a moving blanket. So if you use them make sure you mark off each item as they pack it .They lost phones, quilt rack, damaged a recliner. I am still negotiating with them on the recliner which they claimed was "damaged" prior to moving. The chair needed to be cleaned, but the fabric was fine. They cut the fabric in my chair. Used agent out of Denver to pack up my condo, store then deliver my goods to California. Packing was efficient and met the timelines and costs quoted. I stored my goods for almost a year then had my items shipped to California. I finally went through all the boxes and am happy to say not one item was broken. My shipment was a combination of pottery, glass, pictures, and kitchen items with not that much furniture. One of the movers who packed me was at the California end, too. He ensured the delivery was timely and items were moved to whichever room I requested. This was a great experience for me. read more

Then they quoted us one price but when we arrived in California we were given a different price. Short of taking them to Court, they know they have you between a rock and a hard place to get your furniture. When we unpacked our furniture, we found several items broken or damaged. We contacted Bekins and we were told we would receive a check to cover the damages. When we finally received our check it was only enough to cover half the damages. Even though my driver kept in touch with me, it did take a few days for him to respond. We were traveling across the country during Hurricane Irma. However, it felt like most of the delay was after he had passed the storm. They broke two chairs and shattered my crockpot and damaged the bottom of my couch. The driver was always so nice, but I feel like I was played. He said my contract I had wouldn't really cover the damaged items, so he offered to make sure to get me two new dining chairs and help take care of my couch. He did get as far as letting me know that the furniture company would send me out chair legs so my chairs could be fixed. After waiting a few weeks, I called the company myself. I had new chair legs within two days and fixed my chairs myself. He never mentioned the shattered crockpot or continued to help with the couch. We moved a 3 bedroom house from Washington state to Virginia and have never had better service. The process from quote to pickup was smooth and on time. The driver, Mr. Robinson and his helper were two of the most professional and conscientious I've ever run across. I've moved long distance more than 20 times in the past 40 years, so I've had my share of bad moves. This one was one of the best. At the destination, the driver and helper packed a 7200 lb load into a 10X15 storage unit while I watched in awe, as they found a way to get it all in, undamaged and complete. Every move has some problems, but the competence of the people and their willingness to make restitution when it's their fault is theirs is the best indicator of a good company. I had to do a cross country move and they took care of everything including packing and moving my entire house, as well as shipping my car. They remained in contact with me multiple times through out the process. They also offered competitive pricing. The move coordinator was always pleasant and professional even when I called several times a day with questions. They were efficient and stayed in touch even after delivery to make sure everything was taken care of. Granted the packers could have done a better job of labeling boxes correctly or the kind of items they mixed in one box. It's been quite a treasure hunt to find various items but I suppose that's normal when strangers pack your entire household. During all my moves over the years, there's always been some degree of damage and I'm ecstatic that thankfully damage was minimal with these guys. They are good at what they do and take pride in it. We were planned to have our driver and movers come on July 25th, 2022. The driver cancelled that morning. Customer service in corporate took 3 hours to contact me as they were looking for people to come and pack our things as scheduled, then look for another driver. After 3 hours, we were told packers were coming. They showed us and quickly packed our things, and didn't finish until 7pm. We were on a flight to Washington where we were moving to the next morning. After getting to our destination, we were told a driver and movers were coming on August 9th. That was the absolute last day beforeBekins would have to pay the late delivery fee of $100 per day. When the driver showed up, that's when he told us there was t enough room for all our items on his truck and that 2K pounds were left behind. When I called corporate in Indiana, they had no idea. So now we're waiting for ANOTHER delivery and we had to wait for Bekins to schedule another driver. All of our TVs were part of what was left behind. Weeks later, we were told that our items were coming on August 19th. When I asked about compensation for the late delivery, they said that "load backs" (their terminology) we're not part of the company's compensation plan. So in a nut shell, we had zero, nothing to do with why the load was late, but Bekins were not obligated nor wanted to compensate us for the late delivery of 10 days. Incredibly insulting. Corporate just pass the buck to others and no one will claim responsibility. To add insult to injury, we suggested Bekins to a neighbor and they used them as well. Don't use them. Even if the salesperson seems knowledgeable and committed, if anything goes wrong, you're on your own. read more

Anyone planning a move PLEASE watch out for Bekins Van Lines. They denied most of the damage they did to our furniture and then claimed we did not show them the cartons that I have kept for months. I offered over n over again to show the inspector the cartons. A Waterford cranberry martini glass that was shattered by them is worth "$25". Maybe $125. We had 18" of snow on the ground that day and they wrapped our antiques in wet, snow covered blankets. They claimed the water damage was pre -existing. Bekins/Wheaton had my household items picked up in Vegas on 12/12/17 and it still hasn't arrived (19 days later) The main hub in Indiana can't even reach the trucker that they commissioned to move my property. Not so nice to start the new year with an empty home. Great way to treat someone in the military. SMH. read more

We moved from Marin County CA to just north of New York City. This was not our first cross-country move, but was definitely the best experience, particularly given the current unusual circumstances due to the COVID pandemic. We had to wait longer than we wanted in order for Bekins and their partner carrier, in this case, Wheaton, to secure a driver and fill a van, but once they did, things moved very smoothly, with lots of information from Wheaton, the driver and from A&P of Novato, our storage facility in CA, another Bekins partner. Bekins' cost estimate was competitive if a little on the high side, but their care with our things was worth the extra few dollars. On the CA side, our furniture was carefully wrapped for protection, and small items packed and labeled with extreme care -- from fragile glassware to individually-wrapped lightbulbs. On the New York side, our driver Jimmy D. called during the week to let us know he could arrive a full day in advance. Jimmy and his team scrupulously observed all safety protocols, staying masked the entire time, and had our household goods carefully unloaded, inventoried, assembled, and placed within a few hours. If you are faced with a long-distance move, I would strongly recommend Bekins, who have earned their reputation for professionalism, and courtesy. Moving is not considered a "front-line worker" activity, but at this time, extra appreciation should be shown. read more
