He was celebrating his birthday and they gave him a free Sundae.

We enjoyed our lunch at the Beeside balcony. Very good food & great service. They have a lunch special; two items for $20 & $25 burger special. We loved the selections. The balcony view is very nice. We told them we would be back again for happy hour.

Mom & pop shop with two locations, La Jolla & Del Mar. First time dining here and I like how both locations are located upstairs, providing a view of the ocean. You can't beat an every day happy hour, 3-6pm and we mainly dined from that menu. Standouts were easily the octopus ceviche and $1 oysters. Kitchen was a little slow, took about 30 minutes for fries, but Emily was gracious enough to knock that off our bill. We ended the meal with the HH churros as well, but unfortunately they were way overdone and tasted burnt. This review would've easily been 5 stars, but knocking off one for the kitchen. Stellar service was provided by Emily, hands down 10/10 and also graciously knocked off the churros from the bill. I'd gladly come back just to receive service from her, give her a raise!

Meatballs , Bolognese , & Malaga Chopped Salad

Service: 10/10, had a reservation for 3 people at 7pm on a weekday and was seated right away by a friendly hostess. Server and busser were friendly and attentive. Food: Meatballs 10/10, loved the feta on them, marinara was full of flavor Malaga Chopped: 1000/10, obsessed with this salad.... The Dijon vinaigrette and watermelon were spectacular. Would come back just for the salad. Bolognese: 9/10, Rich and flavorful! Such a great ambience. Loved the patio overlooking the beach. Awesome experience. Great place to celebrate, or to just enjoy good company.

Trio of dips. Side of veggies, meatballs, FIRE.

I love everything Mediterranean and seafood so trying Beeside Balcony was an obvious must. I've been to the La Jolla location once and now been to the Del Mar one probably 10 times haha. It's closer to where I live. Every time I go, I have the best experience. Not only is the food amazing, the views-unreal, but the service is always great. My friend and I always sit in the same spot it's like the bar but not. It's its own little spot to the right of the bar and I think it's the best seat in the house. Food- I've had pretty much everything here I think! Nothing ever disappoints. My faves: -Bee's Board- #1 by far. I always order extra pita. The pita is like a warm pillow. You can't not inhale it, it's that good. It comes with honey goat cheese, artichoke hummus, veggies, olives, a ton of good stuff! -Crab cake- a legit blue lump panko crab cake that doesn't use a ton of breading and no crab like most places. It's super fresh and delightful. -Lamb & beef meatballs- I don't know if it's the lamb/beef combo but these are so good. I pretty much get them every time I go. Loads of flavor and always cooked perfectly. -Truffle Parm fries are a must if you like truffle. I've had a ton of other things that are all fabulous but those are a few of my faves. Oh! We also got a dessert last time we went. I am not a huge dessert or sweets person at all but we housed it and it was bigger than my head if that tells you anything. It was a Baklava ice cream cake. Come onnnn. It had walnuts, nutmeg, cinnamon honey drizzle. I was very annoying eating it because every bite I had to dramatically sigh because I couldn't handle how good it was. *When indulging, always go for the champs deals they have I believe on the weekends!

Yellowfin a la plancha tastes like a peppery mid rare steak yum
Marissa T.

Stopped in after acupuncture around the corner and had the yellowfin a la plancha on the patio. It was amazing. Be warned there's a good bit of black peppery spiciness. But then you hit the creamy chunks of feta and cool watermelon chunks. Such a thoughtful symphony of flavors. I found this dish to taste like a perfectly medium rare steak which is nice since I've been leaning away from red meat these days. I generally have to add salt to most things but this was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Hats off to the chef No weird tough pieces in this cut either. Just tender tuna. Service has been pleasant and the right amount of attentive.

Located in Del Mar. It was upstairs. Service was good. Helpful. Always checking in on us. Seating inside and out. The deck was reserved so we sat at the balcony. For drinks, we got the sparkling lavender honey lemonade and strawberry lemonade. The drinks were tasty and refreshing. We did the happy hour. Got the meatballs, mini crab cakes, and truffle Parmesan fries. The meatballs and crab cakes are bite-sized. Be prepared. It is truly bite-sized. The two meatballs were cooked differently. One was overcooked and the other was not cooked enough. The crab cakes were not bad but had too much breading for a cake that small. The fries were ok. Did not taste any truffle.

Chicken Entree

We went here for dinner on a Monday night (8/24/26). We were able to get a table for two on the patio without a reservation. Our server was fantastic and she did a great job of taking care of us. We ordered the meatballs, the chopped salad, the salmon entree and the chicken entree. All were good and tasty. The chicken was a little bit overcooked for my likings but not enough to send it back - my wife had no problem with how it was cooked. So, maybe it's just me!

Checked out the happy hour. Menu was a bit short but the main issue was got food poisoning after order the oysters. Beware

My fiancée & I have come to really appreciate San Diego Restaurant Week as an opportunity to try out eateries we've never been before. Which is what brought us to Beeside Balcony in Del Mar during the 1st SDRW of 2026. We had Saturday night reservations & got into town early with some time to kill. We found nearby street parking fairly easily. The hostess was able to quickly accommodate us with a table despite our early arrival. Indoor dining space is minimal. But as an upstairs restaurant with "Balcony" literally in its name, the outdoor patio is where you want to be. Our server was a inconsistent on attentiveness & was slow to warm up, though she was quite personable later in the meal. Along with all of the al fresco charm dining on the balcony offered, there was also a curious & less desirable element of the ambiance. During our meal, someone went around shooting pics/ videos for social media. It felt distracting & intrusive. While the SDRW menu was what brought us here, we opted for the Chef's menu after looking over all the options. I ordered the Salmon Croquette/ Denver Steak/ Churros. She ordered Cioppino Soup/ Barramundi/ S'More Cake. Although the pacing of our courses from the kitchen was uneven, most of what we had was good to great to wonderful. Sharing tastes of our dishes with each other, the 1 egregious miss for me was the Cioppino Soup. The seafood in it was good. But that broth was not. Aside from that, the Salmon Croquette & the Barramundi were delicious. The Denver Steak was a revelation. I'd never heard of this cut before, so I looked it up. Truly, a bang for the buck all star. & prepared perfectly here with a fantastic chimichurri. For our desserts, my Churros were good but not anything to get particularly excited about. Now, on the other hand, that S'More Cake? Wow. insanely indulgent with an ooey-gooey center. I honestly can't think of a better way to end a meal. Overall, the ambiance, service, & food all had highs & lows. Collectively, though, the sum total of the experience was pleasant enough that I would be interested in coming back. My threshold for 4 stars is if I'd come back. So, 4 stars it is.

Nice spot in Del Mar with a great location and a pleasant atmosphere. The cocktails were pretty good, and the food was enjoyable overall. I tried the mussels and oysters, and everything was nicely presented. It's a good place to stop by for drinks and some seafood, especially if you're already in the area.

Incredible! I cannot wait to try Everything!

Delicious, Affordable and so relaxing place. Perfect Combo. If I was living closer it will be my weekly restaurant for sure. My favorite for sure.

SDRW menu

3.75 stars... My fiancé and I visited Beeside Balcony during SDRW. Located in the heart of Del Mar, you'll want to grab parking wherever you can on a busy Saturday night. I'm sure their outdoor patio is lovely during the day with a fantastic view. A few things to note: There are a lot of stairs to enter. I'm sure there's an ADA compliant way, but it's not visible from the main entrance. Be sure to call them and ask. The restrooms are outside the restaurant. Not really a bit deal, just something to note. Now for the good, the bad, and the weird... The good.... We had 7:30pm reservations but arrived early and they were able to seat us right away. They offered more than just the usual SDRW menu and their menu. They had a 'chef's menu' which we ended up ordering from. Their outdoor patio is spacious. I loved my branzino and their s'mores cake was divine. I'm still talking about that cake days later. 5 out of 6 dishes were enjoyable...so that's pretty good. Our server, Sofia, was pleasant. The bad: As an appetizer, I ordered cioppino. While the seafood was cooked well, the broth was awful. I'm not sure what caused the off taste, but the broth is not representative of a true cioppino. It's suppose to be a stew, not a thin broth. Note to the head chef: please revisit whatever recipe you're using for this dish. Now for the weird (and this is what would make Beeside a 3.75 review but Yelp won't let me) When the servers cleared our appetizer dishes, they also took our utensils. But, when the entrees were brought out, we had to flag someone down for utensils. Our entrees sat for a few minutes, staring at us...just begging to be eaten! Now...the really weird part. There was someone roaming the patio taking photos and videos for social media. It was pretty obvious they were looking for a certain demographic, lighting, etc. We happened to be seated right next to two of these tables and overheard everything- poses, video snippets, etc. Hands down, it felt weird and intrusive. As a content creator, I understand the need to get content for social media. It's the way of the world. But it's weird, especially on a busy Saturday night. 3.75 stars.

If you're looking for a beautiful coastal vibe with elevated flavors and great service, Beeside Balcony is it. The food was absolutely delicious. The mussels tasted fresh, with flavors that were balanced to perfection. The cocktail I ordered was very bland and flat in my opinion. The service was great. The staff were attentive without being overbearing and made great suggestions about the menu. It made the whole experience feel seamless and enjoyable. Between the atmosphere, the food, and the service, Beeside Balcony is definitely a spot I'd return to. Highly recommend if you're in the Del Mar area and want something that feels special but still relaxed.

We went last night for my mom's birthday dinner and tried a few dishes we hadn't had before. The Wienerschnitzel was fantastic, as was the chuletón--a massive 32-ounce bone-in ribeye that was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. We also ordered several of our favorites: the patatas bravas, with perfectly crispy little squares of potato; the alcachofa, a delicious smashed artichoke with aioli and lemon; the olives, which are perfection every time; and the pan tomaquet con Ibérico--fabulous Ibérico ham served over tomato toast. For dessert, we tried the buñuelos, which reminded me of a lighter, airier version of a churro, and the crema catalana, similar to crème brûlée. Both were a great finish to the meal. Valentina manages to strike that perfect balance: casual enough to feel like a neighborhood spot you can visit all the time, but with food and service that make it feel special enough for a celebration. Another excellent dinner and definitely one of our neighborhood favorites. We usually sit at the bar but enjoyed the dining room this last time!

The gentleman's rice is crispy and full of a generous seafood assortment, but lacks the depth of flavor found in a truly top notch paella-style dish. Dessert menu is limited - would have been nice to see some sweet drink options like barraquito, Horchata or orujo.

I've had lots of hummus, but you could tell it was either store-bought or had been made ahead of time. This was not the case! It was so fresh that you could tell it was just made. Love that!!!! 10/10 for the hummus alone. Service was alright. It was very busy, so the ambiance was crowded and loud. The food took a very long time to come out. I ordered the falafel lover plate, which I was not happy with. The dish was lackluster. There were only 4 falafel on the plate, which surprised me since the dish is falafel lover. Falafel and rice. It was way overpriced for what you get. My husband got a dish with meat, rice and potatoes. He was not wowed by this either. It was not something he would order again. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things? The hummus was so mind blowingly good that I wish the entrees were equally delicious.
