Hummus Shawarma
Agnes P.

Ok this was delicious! I got take out for their hummus bowls w chicken shawarma. There was a generous quantity of chicken and was still hot when I picked up. Their sauces were absolutely delicious, loved the red pepper one. Another highlight is the most softest fluffiest pita bread. Service was great as well!

This place is probably one of my favorite Mediterranean places to eat at. They have such good selection of food and they all are so fresh with their food as well. Parking here is pretty easy. The lines can get sometimes long but not so bad. I've been here both on a weekday lunch and weekend lunch and it can sometimes get packed so be cautious if you're trying to dine in. There is a chance that service can be slightly slow where your food comes out a bit later but they do cook it all so it's nice and warm along with its deliciousness. Their hot sauces are really good too (being pretty spicy as well). I got a plate and a bowl here before and the portions are pretty big so definitely keep that in mind when ordering. Overall, great place to stop by if you want some really good Mediterranean foods you won't be disappointed!

Carved Lamb Hummus (Halal)
Seetha G.

Stopped by Pita 22 with my son and really enjoyed our meal. We ordered the carved lamb hummus, chicken shawarma bowl, and feta fries--and the portions were satisfying. Definitely plenty of leftovers, which is always a win. The lamb hummus was flavorful and well seasoned, and the chicken shawarma bowl was hearty and satisfying. The feta fries were indulgent and tasty, and the accompanying sauces really tied everything together--lots of great flavors to mix and match. Overall, a great casual spot for Mediterranean food with generous portions, solid flavors and great service. Would definitely come back when we're craving something filling and comforting.

I really wanted to like this place. I eat a lot of Mediterranean food. In fact, last weekend I went to a Mediterranean place I gave 5 stars. This was not that. I was confused by the large number of communal tables and few individual tables. They did have high chairs readily available so a plus there. On the positive side, the servers were nice and the kids meal was the best deal in town. On the negative, they kept letting pick up people cut the line and it was getting annoying because there were so many and only one person helping. The kids meal looked beautiful and I'd eat it myself, but my daughter had no interest so that was disappointing. At a similar restaurant, she gets an equivalent meal and really enjoys it. As to the gyro pita, I prefer the gyro crispy on the outside. These were all center cut pieces-no crisp in sight. The pita looked way better than it tasted and same for the taziki sauce. Maybe it was just an off night, but there are so many options in this space, I'm not sure I will return anytime soon. It's fine for big groups or office lunches but I would not go out of my way to go here and I don't see myself ever craving it like I do some of the others.

Sides and sauces that come with the Chicken Shawarma Plate and an extra side of chicken shawarma

Love this spot so much! It's one of our go to's because of the flavors and value. We ordered the Chicken Shawarma Plate with an extra side of Chicken Shawarma to go. The plate comes with a cabbage slaw, cucumber and tomato salad, hummus, tahini sauce, and pita. You can choose between rice or fries. The chicken is moist and seasoned well. We also got 2 sauces - red one was extra spicy while the green one had a nice kick to it. We'll be back soon to try other dishes!

Chicken Kabob A La Carte

Best pita bread!!! It was our first time eating here and the food was delicious. We split the chicken kabob plate and it was a ton of food for the two of us. Everything was fresh and homemade with incredible Mediterranean flavors. The service was fast and friendly. They gave us recommendations on what to eat and what's popular. The ambiance is clean and very nice and pleasant. We'll definitely be back soon!

Great food continues!! Always delicious. Tried their bowl this time and was not let down. Delicious side of hummus and pita! Great staff and homemade pitas! Such a needed place here!!

Raging eggplant

I got the raging eggplant. This is an amazing twist in your typical eggs Benedict. It has fried eggplant on toast instead of your typical protein on an English muffin. The service was great and the lady who was running the shop was super sweet. The food was so delicious and affordable! I highly recommend this spot for a nice brunch

Chicken Pita and Falafel bowl

Chicken Schwarma pita is heavenly and juicy. Very nicely seasoned. The tahini is one of the best I've tasted. Very creamy and has an intense sesame flavor. Normally tahinis this creamy usually have some weird after taste but this doesn't! Great price for the amount of meat. The falafel bowl was great as well. Very crunchy. I wish they're a bit bigger but the rest of the bowl's amount did make it more than fairly priced. I didn't find the spiciest sauce too spicy but it tasted fresh and refreshing. Will come again for sure when I visit San Diego!

I stopped by PITA 22 to purchase a late afternoon meal to-go before heading off to an evening activity near the Torrey Highlands neighborhood. The interior of the suite was brightly decorated and had the capacity for a couple of dozen patrons. Most of the customers that came after me were also getting take-out food. The menu boards were divided into five sections: Hummus (seven types), Pita or Bowl (six kinds), Plates (five choices for adults, five choices for kids), Salads (four varieties), and Extras. I figured a bowl would be the most convenient so I picked the Carved Lamb variety. Besides the meat, roasted tomatoes, onions, pickles, fresh parsley, and tahini sauce were included. The base was a bed of rice versus quinoa which incurred an additional charge. I had expected a portion size that reflected a solid value for the price I paid. It didn't feel that way as the bowl was on the small side. The quality of the ingredients was good though. Perhaps I have been spoiled at what I have tried at other Middle Eastern/Mediterranean eateries around town. I rated my initial dining experience at PITA 22 with three stars.

lamb kabob plate

- tried the lamb kebab plate fresh and it was so tender and extra seasoned! the sides were also excellent. i'm glad i got to try it again - i highly recommend this dish! - service was attentive and kind as always!

It's a third time in a row that the order was wrong or missing items. Food is great, but I no longer trust Pita 22 to prep the order correctly.

The food is was great and one of my favorite spots when I'm craving middle eastern wraps- I did built your own pita so of course I like the ingredients. I loved my pita bread (it's much different from the Greek style if you haven't tried it before!) and the enjoyed the steak in particular. It had a lot of warming spices (nutmeg and cinnamon maybe?) and the flavor is pretty unique! I added bell peppers, pickled cucumbers, lettuce, tomato, red onion, tahini sauce, and garlic sauce. I also got a piece of falafel - I always gotta judge a place by their falafel and this one was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside which was perfect. Next time I need to try the halloumi cheese stix with fig jam! Place was very clean and the decor was nice. I also love the Finjan coffee spot next door.

The staff is also consistently warm and kind, which makes the whole experience feel good from the moment you walk in. My only real frustration is with the wait times on online orders, and it's significant enough that I have to mention it. I work 10 min away and only get a 35-40 minute break. The app consistently quotes around 20 minutes- but honestly, 20 minutes shouldn't even be necessary. I've stood there and watched them make a bowl. It takes about two minutes. Other similar restaurants have my order ready in five minutes, consistently. So when the app quotes 20 and then I still end up waiting at the 20 minute mark on top of that - in a nearly empty restaurant - something is off. Today this happened (I hit the 20 min mark with no food), and I had to go up and ask them to make my order. This isn't a one-time thing either. It's happened enough times over the years that it genuinely deters me from coming here on my break. To their credit, there was a stretch where it seemed like they had it figured out, so I know they can do it. I just wish that consistency would stick. If you're not on a time crunch, absolutely go. The food alone is worth it. But if you're relying on a quoted pickup time, build in a buffer- a bigger one than you'd think you'd need.

For savories, I had the spinach and cheese bajeen, baba gannouj, and the lamb fatteh - all had a lot of flavor and tasted homemade. I love trying new foods so will have to come back with more friends and try other things on the menu. The downside of this place was being seated on the right side of the restaurant near the carry out section. This was the pit of despair. I noticed that most of the staff goes to the other end first, and as a result 4 tables got seated after us and all of them had food on their table before we managed to flag one of the staff. It was definitely busy in there but he replied that he was simply going in order, but apparently order or left side to right side instead of arrival. I recommend trying to get seated on the side w the stained glass windows for better service. Other than that, the experience overall was pleasant.
