    Kabob Mix Plate #2

Generous portions and freshly prepared food! Great place to pick up a healthy meal - a beef koobideh kebab made with ground meat, chicken kebob and rice and salad.

Stopped here for a quick bite. This was a Togo order. I ordered the beef kabob plate. It came with beef rice and veggies. The food was good. Descent amount for one person. Reasonably priced $16. The place is small inside but there are tables if you want to in Definitely worth checking out.

New favorite Persian food place unlocked!! I ordered the Koobideh kabob plate and it was delicious. This small establishment is located within a small plaza so parking wasn't an obstacle. Definitely coming back. Update: Came back a week later

This hidden gem is by far my favorite Persian / Mediterranean food. They really know what they're doing and make the every dish as you order. Every bite is so delicious and can tell it's made with pride. I love that it's a family company and they give you that home cooked taste. No other place over the 30 years of having Persian food has come close to this. The place is small but that's the point and it's very clean and well taken care of. It's hard for me to not go back for seconds after leaving the office to have dinner!

    Delicious!

I am a fan of Paradise Kabob! I was intending to eat at the Indian buffet in the same strip mall, but it was closed for remodeling, so I decided to give Paradise a try. Not disappointed! I ordered the Chicken Kabob plate, which came with a large serving of rice, a small salad, and a couple of grilled veggies. Everything tasted fresh and healthy. The owners were very friendly, and the ambiance was casual as a lunch place really should. Next time I have a hankering for Persian food, I know where to go!

Paradise Kabob has taken over the former space of Pauly's Pizza Joint which has moved to an end corner suite in the Miracrest Plaza that used to house a Subway. The words 'Persian Kitchen' hung beneath the marquee sign so I stopped in recently to check out this new Middle Eastern cuisine eatery. There were about half a dozen tables for dine-in seating. A menu screen hung on a wall to the left of the service counter, but it was easier to look at one of the take-out sheets. Appetizers and wrap sandwiches were listed on one side while the other side featured entrees, salads, and specialty stews. The last category looked intriguing, however my taste buds weren't adventurous enough. The Kabob Mix Plate #2 was my choice. Shish kabob and boneless chicken kabob were the proteins that were served with basmati rice, grilled tomato, onion, parsley, and a salad. The cubes of chicken were some of the juiciest I have tasted at any restaurant so kudos to the chef. I preferred that meat over the filet mignon chunks which was probably a first for me. What I would like to have seen for this combo was less rice and the addition of a spread like hummus or baba ghanoush with some pita bread. That would have elevated this plate to match the $27 price tag. The service from the staff was fine. The business will need to advertise to let the public know they are operating now because this plaza has numerous dining choices, not to mention competition from other spots along Miramar Rd.

I first became aware of this fine establishment from one of our very own Elites. And on Emmett's recommendation alone, I gave this Iranian restaurant a spin. Now my experience has been in San Diego (25 years) that most Iranian restaurants get either the protein right and the rice wrong, or vice versa. Here we happily get BOTH with a true value that is easy on your wallet. A Mom & Pop with Junior and Big Brother at the ready for extra close service to your every whim, i.e. More of this and of that, etc. All requests are greeted with a happy welcoming smile. Only been open for a few weeks these good folks have placed everything they have on this restaurant and it shows. See Photos. Will CERTAINLY return

What a find! Very delicious food, we ordered a whole family order and the kabobs were perfect! Very quick service and friendly, they threw in some fried chip-like snacks as well. Well worth the price, will definitely be returning. The chicken was so juicy and flavorful normally it's the lesser, but here the chicken deserves a center spot! Wish I had pictures but next time I'll make sure to fill up the reel. 5 stars earned.

It was a day when I am so confused with what lunch will I get, check yelp and decided to try out the Persian Food, I ordered the Beef Kobideh and this food makes my lunch hunting really good, I like it when they put some salad and pepper, also comes with fermented onions and grilled tomato, finshed up the salad first then i was suprised when I taste that kobideh, its good and i really like its flavor, it is perfect, what I hate on food is when it is too salty, but this one is balanced, The meal makes it kind of satisfied lunch... I will come back again.

The quality of the food here is excellent across the board, and the flavors have made me a genuine fan of Persian cuisine, which I didn't grow up with but now count among my favorites thanks to this place. The service is always warm and attentive, adding to the welcoming, casual atmosphere. As a small but appreciated touch, the NHL Network is often playing on the TVs--something that makes the experience even more enjoyable for hockey fans like myself. Grill House Cafe is one of those rare finds that combines authenticity, great value, and friendly service. I now eat here more than the friend who introduced me to this fantastic restaurant. The owners are genuinely friendly and the food has been consistently solid for years. A highlight for me is the rice -- fragrant basmati with saffron and a golden, crispy tahdig-style layer that adds a really satisfying texture alongside the fluffy rice underneath. I've only dined in a couple of times, but it's worth it if you can. The restaurant feels warm and inviting, with lots of table seating and a cozy, traditional feel, made even better by the welcoming service. We started with Zeyton Parvardeh and Mirza Ghasemi, and both were tangy and packed with flavor. My usual entree favorites are Ghormeh Sabzi and Fesenjoon, and both have that comforting, well-made "slow-cooked" feel. The kabob combo with chicken and koobideh is also a reliable order: flavorful, well-seasoned, and a great match with the rice. All presented as sharable. If you're looking for dependable Persian comfort food in the area, Shiraz is absolutely worth a visit (or a takeout run).

Our only concern/warning is that when the check came the prices didn't match what was on the menu. (Only a couple dollars more, but transparency matters.) When we inquired about the discrepancy the owner said it was due to an additional credit card charge. We then asked why it wasn't disclosed on the menu, and she claimed it was not legally required of her. NOT TRUE! Per Google: "In California, recent legislation mandates that any mandatory fees, including credit card surcharges, must be clearly displayed at checkout. This means that if a restaurant charges an extra fee for credit card payments, it must inform customers upfront." We would certainly go back for the food, I would just check the menu for the disclosure first.

They should really indicate the portion sizes in ounces. The "small" was more like a sample size, about the size of a condiment container and maybe two bites at most. The flavor was not even good, so I am glad I did not order a larger portion. Overall, the food was very average. Nothing really stood out to me. The entree portions here are really plentiful, so we split their world famous, delicious chicken dish (Adas Pollo). The large portion of rice with dates, raisins, and lentils was so delicious. When we asked Aaron about the dessert selections, he almost convinced us to try the baklava, but then he described the pistachio ice cream and we were sold. I called to confirm, and lo and behold -- they didn't have our reservation on file. Instead of apologizing or trying to help, they were incredibly disrespectful over the phone and kept trying to blame us for their mistake. I have no idea why they couldn't just take responsibility. They even tried to gaslight me into believing I hadn't made the reservation correctly. All I did was call, give them my information, and they told me I was all set. I honestly don't know how that could be misunderstood any other way. Since we were going to be in Hillcrest, we chose Khyber Pass - and wow, what an incredible decision. This was easily some of the best food I've had in a very long time. We started with the Bolani. Absolute perfection. It had a beautiful crunch, perfectly seasoned filling, and none of that sogginess I often run into with Bolani elsewhere. We could've ordered another plate and been thrilled. Next came the Aushak with ground beef: one of my all-time favorite Afghan dishes. Think of it like delicate leek-filled ravioli topped with savory meat and tangy yogurt. It hit all the right notes. We also shared the Kofta Kabob, served with grilled vegetables and fluffy basmati rice. The seasoning was spot on, and the meat was juicy and tender, similar to Persian koobideh, but truly memorable in its own way. Our server recommended the Afghan Yaghoot Chalao (Cherry Curry) with chicken. Yes, cherries! Sweet, sour, rich, bright. I had to resist the urge to literally lick my plate clean. And then: the Qabuli Palao with lamb. I do not like lamb. My friend loves it, so I agreed...and I'm so glad I did. I genuinely loved this dish. The saffron-coriander rice with carrots and raisins was aromatic and comforting, and the lamb was tender and flavorful. If you're hesitant about lamb, trust me, this dish might convert you. Portions were generous, we came hungry, and still left with leftovers. I also ordered the house-made Doogh, a mint yogurt drink. It's not for everyone, but it's pure comfort to me. We finished with hot tea infused with cardamom, black for me, green for my friend, and it was the perfect close to a perfect meal. I told our server that this food was even more delicious than what my mother makes. I'm Afghan born and raised in San Diego. That is not a compliment I give lightly. I believe the restaurant is under newer management since around 2020/2021. I last ate here in 2015, and even back when it was on Convoy in the late '90s, and this is the best it has ever been. I highly, highly recommend Khyber Pass to anyone: adventurous eaters, first-timers, comfort-food seekers, well everyone. I'll definitely be back, and next time I'm saving room for dessert.
