I was here in the middle of the day where there were a lot of students walking home from school and family's and people walking their dogs. It's a beautiful park with a basketball court, huge big toy and a long slide. The park was calm and brought back memories of my childhood. I just didn't like how the park has a bad rep to it because of the neighborhood it is in. It's a place to stop by after shopping by Safeway or grabbing food nearby Othello/MLK strip. Also, Cynthia has an iron backside. I've gone down a similar slide in Skyway when I was a kid and they don't round the bottom of these things - they're just FLAT BENT METAL. I've once sat at the top, meditating the rapid descent of 20-30 ft - and nothing more. I mean it's only sharp angles at the bends, no curves! I can only hear the: "Weeeeeeeeeeee!---[thump]---OWW!" It's a nice park/playground (parkground/!), though. Just watch out for the inconsiderate poop plops from dog owners who aren't quite mindful and some trash. Besides that, check it out a bit the next time you're in the area winding away from time.

The honey and I decided on one of our walks to start at the Colman P-Patch Community Gardens (which is easily one of the most gorgeous sounding parks we've been to) and walk down under the these smaller tunnels to Colman Beach. The tunnels at first glance look barely big enough for someone to pass under, and someone larger than 6 feet might struggle, but it's so much fun to walk through the woods from the P-Patch and see that these adorable tunnels lead to a beach. Colman Park is very woodsy, but there are so many paths and levels to it that you could probably explore for an hour and not see everything. All in all beyond Streissguth Gardens, the Colman P-Patch and adjoining Colman Park and Colman Beach would be the absolute must see for free Seattle green spaces in my opinion, and if you're in the area, you should definitely drop by.

The airplane-themed play structure has truly unique features that kids will love, plus exercise equipment for grown-ups -- and there's a super special bonus for kids who love transportation. Definitely put this artsy, historic Seattle neighborhood on your route.  1. The unusual, two-story, globe-shaped merry-go-round spins and doubles as a climber with cargo netting all around. Hop inside or climb up the outside. 2. A totally fun hydraulic descending platform thingy is a little hard to describe but enthralling to kids. Children step onto a small, circular platform with a central pole (with hand-holds) and the platform slowly descends to the ground under their weight. Once the child steps off, the platform slowly rises back to its starting position. 3. A cargo net climber and other climbing elements encourage balance and age-appropriate risk-taking. There's as a small rock-climbing ramp for younger kids, a stretch of enormous, twisting rope, fabric platforms and a curving blue slide. 4. Flexible rubber "ramps" are irresistible to young climbers. One has hand-holds for littler kids. Scramble up these pathways to hop on and ride the hydraulic descender. 5. Colorful bells, a huge xylophone and other giant musical instruments invite sensory play. 6. Swings! The spacious swing set features two accessible swings, two regular swings and two baby swings. 7. Exercise equipment for grown-ups (and teens) means you can squeeze in a little workout while your kids go bananas on all the cool play structures. Try the elliptical trainer. There is also a tennis court and while it doesn't look like it was part of the renovation, it appears totally serviceable. A half-court basketball court invites shooting baskets, and a huge soccer field hosts official games for teams of all ages but is also open for public play at other times. These highlights are just the beginning of the fun features at this park. Pathways are accessible and there are new benches adjacent to the play area. The spray park, and there is a small covered picnic area and other seating, plus a restroom. Transportation bonus: Train tracks run right by the park and the Georgetown neighborhood's proximity to Boeing Field mean planes fly in low and loud. It's great fun for the young transportation buff. Fairly large wooded area with a few little trails. This park is not that great and you shouldn't take the time to travel here, but it's a-okay if you're already in the area. There have been a few times I've felt unsafe in the wooded areas, so definitely pay attention to your surroundings! This park also has tennis courts and a basketball court which are fairly well maintained and there are bathrooms available for use (during the warmer months).

This space is a connection to culture and heritage. If someone from the Philippines is feeling homesick, they should be able to come to this space as a place of comfort. Unfortunately, it's a park that has been left unchecked for the past 10 years. The time capsule and metal plaques were stolen. I know the elders and descendants are frustrated with these disgraceful and disrespectful acts. I hope this park will be restored to a welcoming, clean, and safe environment again. I know the Filipino and Beacon Hill communities would want this. I know visitors from out of town would want this too. I took a direct flight from Sea-Tac Airport to Ninoy Aquino International Airport recently. Visiting Rizal Park in Manila was on my itinerary. Thousands of people were at the park. I had never experienced anything like it. The monument was guarded and barricaded. The open space was beautifully landscaped. If I can fly to Manila and feel good about visiting Rizal Park, I should feel good about visiting this park in my hometown too. This park has history with the Filipino community and I'm confident that with sincere investments and thoughtful attention it will flourish again.

I like the park because it's great for all ages. The playground area for kids is covered in beautiful synthetic grass that is safe to play on, soft to fall on, which I love because it's not messy like wood chips or sand. There's a large grass area too for anyone wanting to picnic on a blanket. The bathroom is very close by attached to the back of the Van Asselt Community Center. Not everyone in Seattle has the same access to recreational opportunities. Some can afford gym memberships, fitness classes, and personal trainers, but most cannot. That is why Seattle Parks Foundation is partnering with the Trust for Public Land, MOMentum, Leschi Community Council, and Seattle Parks and Recreation to install free outdoor gyms, called Fitness Zones Areas, in public parks around the city. Each Fitness Zone Area includes 8 to 12 pieces of durable, easy-to-use, vandal-resistant equipment that can be used by everyone from teenagers to seniors to tone their arms and legs and get their heart pumping. Great Park. One of the best actually.
