Wading pool is just a few steps infront the Community Center. There was plenty of kids. I guess they were still on summer camp :) Some of the bigger ones were doing kind of a picnic on tables. I found this great! There is also a small picnic shelter for parties when available. In other CCs you can grab a chair if they are available or a person would just guide you about the procedure. Here, a lady would almost yell in a very rude way to ask for it. I answered her how would I know about a different process from where I come from or even whom to ask for it. She then told me it was her I should have asked for a chair. For a chair to sit!! Fortunately, we brought everything we needed and proceed to enjoy the wading pool for some minutes. We shared our toys and stuff just like at other pools because they are all kids :) Police cars were driving around.

Van Asselt Playground is located on Beacon Hill. It is an active park with amenities in easy…read morewalking distance. Named after Henry Van Asselt who arrived from Holland in 1851. He was a pioneer, excellent marksman and cabinet maker. The first school in King County was the Van Asselt School in 1862. Came here for the first time, the grounds are super nice and amazingly clean. I felt that it was a great "homey" environment for kids and a great place to spend the day. I like the park because it's great for all ages. The playground area for kids is covered in beautiful synthetic grass that is safe to play on, soft to fall on, which I love because it's not messy like wood chips or sand. They have slides, swings, and a seesaw. During the summer, you can play in the wading pool. There's a basketball court nearby, BBQ Grills, and also a shelter with picnic tables. There's a large grass area too for anyone wanting to picnic on a blanket. The bathroom is very close by attached to the back of the Van Asselt Community Center. Not everyone in Seattle has the same access to recreational opportunities. Some can afford gym memberships, fitness classes, and personal trainers, but most cannot. That is why Seattle Parks Foundation is partnering with the Trust for Public Land, MOMentum, Leschi Community Council, and Seattle Parks and Recreation to install free outdoor gyms, called Fitness Zones Areas, in public parks around the city. Each Fitness Zone Area includes 8 to 12 pieces of durable, easy-to-use, vandal-resistant equipment that can be used by everyone from teenagers to seniors to tone their arms and legs and get their heart pumping. Chelsea Park was my neighborhood park growing up. I've been there probably 100+ times…read more I've played organized and recreational sports there, participated in day camp there, and did about a dozen other things there during my childhood. It's a nice neighborhood park tucked away just off Ambaum and 136th. The park is basically divided into two sections, the playground area which is on top of a little hill and the field, which is down below. The playground area was renovated within the last 10-15 years and has a nice playground and walkway area up above. I don't know if it's due to the location, off Ambaum and 136th/near the (formerly called Seahurst Village Apartments) or what, but I don't see too many kids there playing. The field down below has a small baseball/softball field that is well-kept because it's used for little league baseball/softball and Kennedy Catholics softball team as well. The field isn't by enough for high schoolers (90 ft base paths and 60 ft mound), nor can it accommodate power hitters (due to houses relatively close down the right field line and a moderately short left field. Basically, If you're looking to play baseball you're better off going to Sunset Fields or Moshier Fields - you'll have more real estate there. The open field/grassy area is though good for pickup games of football, soccer, ultimate frisbee, etc. as well as catch and just general running. Often, at night - just before sunset ("after work") you may often find members of Burien's Hispanic community playing recreational soccer there - so if you're someone who had the itch to play, and doesn't play organized soccer or can't find people to play with, then it may be worth dropping by one night to see if people are playing. All-in-all, Chelsea Park is a fairly nice neighborhood park in the Burien-area that provides a variety of different opportunities for playtime and/or rec-athletics

Covid was still raging strongly and not many people were out but it was a spot of novelty as it was my first time to this neighborhood. It was in Spring I believe because blooming trees were in full affect which was interesting timing returning here again as the blooming trees were at work again in the park. The park isn't all that large and doesn't have a lot park amenities but it's a nice stroll for visitors and the residents for this mixed use business and residential area. It's a very clean looking park with no rubbish anywhere to be seen.

While the park is small, it's a great place to spend some time if you're in the area, especially in the Spring and Summer! During the hotter months there's a fountain that the kiddos like. The rest of the time you get a nice little green space that's usually pretty quiet. There's also the farmers' market in the area during the warmer months. Definitely a lovely additional to a lovely city!

The second time my kid wanted to come so we purposely drove out to it. This time we left early because it didn't feel safe. We went to the bathroom and there was a homeless person in there occupying the handicap restroom, most likely doing something illegal. Her arm was sticking out under the stall and it felt kind of scary. I had to usher my kids out as quickly as possible. When we got back to the playground, tons of trash. A toddler pulled down her pants to pee on the ground. A bunch of teenagers were at the toddler playground without shoes on, occupying the "inside" of the playground. Worried my kids had to go to the bathroom again, we left early. It didn't seem sanitary nor safe anymore. We will not be back.

There is a covered area, a jungle gym like structure, and Picnic areas for family bbqs. So glad they also had a public restroom as we needed to use It on the way out. If you venture deeper into the woods and follow the trails you will begin a maze like adventure full of winding trails. There are streams and bridges and views of the valleys. So nice. Multiple entrances/exits and paths to choose from. Very easy to get lost or turned around. Thankfully that have maps. We forsure got mixed up and had to rely on the maps. We had fun. I will say that the parking lot is rather small and it can be very challenging to find any parking during the summer. When I arrived on this particular day, there was literally a line out to the road with vehicles trying to find parking. It can get pretty cut throat, too. The park itself is generously sized, in the splash pad has a lot of unique features that my kids really enjoyed. My favorite part is that they had features for small children as well as larger children. Usually when I go to other splash pads it smells funky or like chlorine. But this location smelled fresh and seemed to have been upkept recently. Western Washington is a notorious area for high amounts of trafficking, so I always have to keep an eye out wherever we go. But thankfully, this area seemed pretty safe so we will definitely be back next summer for more playtime.
