Stopped in today trying to find a decent hot dog. Nothing is more annoying than a foot long hot dog on a regular sized greasy bun. Plus it was under a proper temperature. Onion straws were OK. Tots were OK. Tried to get someone's attention to get a drink at the bar, to no avail. We would up drinking the lukewarm cucumber water that was offered. The tray they put our food on was absolutely filthy as were the tables. Very disappointed, this place should be a gem. Perhaps some adult supervision for the very young staff is in order. read more

Staff were extremely friendly , it is carry out with tables at a bar area or outdoors .Bar area has some free games to play . We chose outdoors to sit by the water . They sell beer ,wine and seltzers . The food was great and not over priced . We had two footlong dogs with onions , the bread is toasted to perfection ! After my last visit, I vowed to never return. However, article in paper mentioned new ownership. So. .. Glad I came back. New owners took over in the spring, and made it a fun place again. Brought back the old menu and more. I had two foot-long dogs, one w brown mustard and kraut, one w chili. Both were delicious, served on New England style buns that were grilled on the sides. Two quibbles for me. First, a bit pricey; second, they need to do something about the ubiquitous flies that are rampant in the eating area. We waited over 45 minutes for our order- people who ordered after us got their food way before us. Come to find out the food was ready but we weren't paged and had to wait on a shake to be made. By the time we did the 10 mi home the food was cold, shriveled hot dog and a sandwich dripping in grease. I wish I hadn't tipped- a waste of $45 as all but the drinks went in the trash. read more

Prices were fare, they are producing better than fast food quality so dropping 30 for a dog 2 sodas and 2 fries was OK, plus for me us these are Hummels dogs. My first adult job was in Windsor Locks. I wasn't from the area, and being the new guy, I didn't have much of a say in group lunch spots. Bart's was in rotation for dogs, burgers, fries, etc. Until this week, I hadn't been to Bart's for over 20 years. Since I was in the area, I decided to drop in. I quickly noticed that the menus referred to "New Bart's". Since I hadn't been in over 20 years, the changeover could have been at any point. I asked. The ownership change was "about a month ago". I missed the old team by a month. How crazy is that? Given the ownership change, I'm not sure how accurate the 3 Star Rating is for New Bart's, but it is what it is. I ordered a classic -- Bart's Famous Dog with chili, relish, peppers, ketchup, mustard and Mayo. It's an eye catching dog. The grilled reddish dog extends from both sides of the bun. There are strips of white and yellow. Dashes of red and green. Brown chili. I'm sure it sounds like a mess, but the sweet, sour and salty flavors were well balanced. The dog, the brand of which I did not recognize, was cooked through and medium dense. The bun was pretty good. I tried to isolate the chili sauce to see if it was good. It didn't really pop for me, but it worked fine with the other ingredients. Bart's also has sandwiches, some seafood, chicken nuggets and fried rice. They have inside seating in an old school, no frills dining room. You can also get takeout or order delivery. This was a nice trip down memory lane. 4 Stars read more

Cute location, very authentic roadside standish... however the best thing was the fries. The hot dogs we served in New England style rolls - but not toasted!! Whaaaat. The Beanery is only open for breakfast - which was a disappointment. And the dogs were... eeeh If you are really craving some fries and need an excuse - this will work. The food is heavy on taste customization and plenty of choices from cheese to bread and toppings. Ice cream abs milkshakes and bakery on premises too! I had a horrible experience. First I asked for a FRIED chicken sandwich and they brought me a grilled chicken sandwich. Then because they seasoned the fried chicken whit something I'm allergic to and told them ahead of time that I was. Then I asked for a hamburger instead. Lettuce and tomato only. I'm allergic to may and cheese but they messed up again and added cheese. They offered me a free drink to make up for it which I had a drink with 50 cent refills. I left. No refund given. read more

This was my second time visiting Bart's, but the first time under the new ownership. They closed the walk up bar, so I had to enter through the Beanery Bistro. I thought I would walk in to a pleasant smell of coffee, but the restaurant smelled like old cooking grease. I ordered a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on a hard roll. It came on a sesame seed burger bun. The sandwich smelled like it had been cooked in old grease which was unappetizing. The sandwich didn't taste good at all. The girl at the counter was nice and gave good customer service. I hope they're able to improve the food. read more

Ordered a hotdog with ketchup and mustard (she put on relish and went for mayo and I had to correct it) - she took the relish and scraped it back into the container Cheeseburger (out of patties) Philly cheesesteak (they made a fish sandwich) - when we said that was incorrect she took the lettuce from the toasted bun and put it back in the lettuce container, took the fish and put it back in the bowl, and took the toasted bun and put it back in the bag! YUCK They also tried to charge me the "new menu" prices which I refused because the board still showed the old ones. Philly cheesesteak had enough beef/cheese/peppers to not even cover half of the bun. Hotdog was cold and not juicy, so it was apparent the grill wasn't hot. Threw it all away. I not be going back. So sad as this was a staple from childhood. They have since closed off the "kitchen" which is the counter you order at. Probably so you can't see how gross they are with food. Any good ratings that are posted are not from people who went to the original Barts. It is garbage. Hope the old owners come save this place. read more

I used to goto Bart's for hotdogs and hamburgers! They were great! Unfortunately not so much anymore. The business was sold not to long ago, per an article that I read online. I ordered a cheeseburger and curly fries with an orange soda. The cheeseburger was s supposed to come with lettuce , tomato, mustard, Mayo an ketchup. I barely got a cheeseburger, no lettuce, no tomato. The orange soda was the best part of the meal unfortunately. Won't be going back anytime soon. I would give half a star if I could. read more

Bart's is that small town classic old-time kind of eatery. Order at counter, pick up and then eat at one of the picnic tables placed outside a few feet away from the Farmington River where the annual Shad Derby takes place. Where else can you order an egg sandwich and the town's mayor who owns Bart's will fry it up for you? Food is standard American take out, hamburgers, hot dogs etc. I usually order next door at the Beanery, but Bart's is known for their hotdogs. The Beanery, offers a choice of teas, flavored coffees, wraps, muffins and scones and plenty of booths and tables to sit with friends. Cozy environment. It can get hopping at lunch time as contractors pull up in their trucks, but staff is efficient and swift with serving. read more

Bart's In Name Only. Granted it's been 10 years since I was there last, but have gone 1-2 times every summer for nearly 40 years prior. I was told things had changed and gone downhill but I like to judge things myself. The area where we used to order inside the big doors in front of the grill is now closed off. The girl at the register greeted us right away and handed us menus. Let's just say her friendliness and the fries were the only positives. The sit down area is slightly familiar but oddly furnished now. Food now comes from the grill through a small cut-out in the wall. I'd give 1.5 stars if I could. 2 is just too generous. Crinkle fries were hot, crispy and lightly salted. The only bright spot. Although the canned sodas were cold so they've got that working for them, too. Ordered a cheeseburger for my son. Almost stale bun, small overcooked patty, at least the lettuce and tomato looked decent. In the past I've always gotten fried fish or clams. Was just in the mood for a dog so I ordered a Bart's Famous Chili Dog which has a load of stuff on it. Chili, onions, tomato, ketchup, relish. I'm usually a no ketchup on hot dogs guy but figured it's famous so I'll go with it. I have no idea what was on it besides relish, ketchup, mayo and mustard. There was no meat-based chili in any form. There was what appeared to be what most people would know as sweet Thai chili sauce. Not at all what it was expecting and just an odd mess of flavors. Maybe they always put sweet Thai chili sauce on it. Why?? There is no way I would trust any of the seafood here if they even still offer it. Major disappointment nostalgia- and food-wise. I won't be returning unless something drastically changes for the better. It's a shame since it's such a cool location and has such a great history. If you're looking for great grilled dogs and burgers with an old-time atmosphere, skip the new Bart's and take a 10 minute drive south to Augie & Ray's! read more

Will not visit ever again. It was dead empty and that should have been a sign. We went for breakfast at 9am on a Wednesday and not a soul was there (except 3 employees). I ordered my coffee and donuts at the Beanery and then our breakfast at Bart's right besides the coffee spot. My cappuccino was way tooooo hot. The milk definitely was over steamed. The donuts were ok. Too sweet but not the best. The cookies I got for my kids, which I tried later, were actually Pretty good. Now our breakfast. I got a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel. The bagel was old, dry and rubbery. The bacon was PRE COOKED and packaged (like the pre made Oscar Myers kind) and my egg over cooked and greasy. My friend had a bagel (same) with cream cheese (that was old) and home fries (which weren't awful). I will never ever eat here again. Highly disappointed. read more

They really have to pick up the pace with the service as well as the quality of the food. Should have walked out when I went I to order and a lady was there questioning how much longer for her two hot dogs. It took forever to get our Philly steak and fries. Ordered 2 simple hot dogs . One with mustard only , one with ketchup & relish. This next step should have warned me to run. Paid with a credit card . She handed me the receipt to sign . I laid it on the counter in front of me and signed . When I went to pick it up , it stuck to the filthy ancient wooden counter . After carefully peeling it off I handed it to my non English speaking waitress. We waited and watched as an older woman came in to order a coffee and her request for what she wanted in it was milk . My wife opens her hot dog and it is drowned, I'm talking soaking wet , absolutely covered in ketchup and relish. COVERED. Did I mention Covered. So much there was no way to contort her arm/ hands to lift it from its wrapper with being covered in these soaking wet condiments . Moving on I open mine and it's covered in a river of ketchup. I bring it back in and "clueless" takes it from me and hollers through the 2 foot square hole in the wall , to the "nit wit" cook to make me another one. This time with the requested mustard . And this time , just a little bit of mustard. I wait and wait and wait for what seems like way too long to cook a hot dog on an already hot grill. He finally passes it through this 2 foot square hole to the waiting waitress. I go back to the car. My wife has finished Her hot dog after wiping it off with 7 napkins. I open my hot dog . Yup its mustard this time. But it looks like it ways lifted up with a pair of tongs and shoved into a baking pan full of mustard . I can only see the 2 ends of this hot dog and only the bottom half of the bun. We are laughing and my wife knows me well enough to stop me from going back inside and seeing if I can fit this into Gordon Ramsey's ear hole . I get out and throw it into the trash barrel along with my wife's napkin mess. I don't even go back in for a refund. Smart move on my part . No ambulance or paddy wagon. Stay away from the disgusting slop house restaurant. Seriously, you'll be sorry . read more
